I have a Fire HD6 that has (had) OS 4.5.5.1.
I tried to root it (unsuccessfully). It (I believe) soft bricked...?
I intended to fix it and figured I'd get around to it when I felt like dealing with it.
I woke up a few days later to a message telling me that it had been updated to 5.1.1
So, my question is, since it started out as 4.5.5.1 and was considered a 4th gen, now that it's 5.1.1, is it now considered a 5th gen?
Thanks...
It's still 4th gen. The generation refers to the physical device, not the OS.

edit: My mistake - After all my tablet is the ME181CX version, i was almost certain it was the C. Aparently this one can't be rooted yet.
Hello,
I recently bought this tablet, and started reading up on how to root it.
I have come across this rootzenphone apk, and aparently the latest 1.4.6.4r version should support this tablet. Nevertheless, i am having the problem of it just leaving the tablet in demo mode, and the rooting saying "failed". I have restored to factory settings, and tried to root again, to the same results.
Build number : WW-3.1.23.172 -> i recall reading something about only "ww-xxxx" models being supported, so i guess mine is one of those.
I am quite new to android, so i may not be giving some needed info :x
Anyway, any help would be awesome.
Hello,
I have a Kindle Fire HD 7 tablet (4th generation, 2014). I had been previously having issues with video on the tablet which customer support was unable to help me with. While I was trying to find a solution, I saw in my Amazon account that I could update my software. I chose to do this hoping that perhaps my out-of-date software was what might be causing my video issues.
On the bright side, my video works great now. The downside is that I do not like the new software at all. I've since learned that I previously had OS 4.5.5.3. I loved its ease of use and the carousel. Now I have OS 5.6.1.0 and just really want my good old tablet back to how it was. I spoke to customer support and was told that only OS 5.3.1 and earlier could return to Fire OS 4, so there was nothing they could do.
I've seen a lot of tutorials on downgrading your software or restoring your tablet to its original firmware. I think I could handle following the tutorials, but I've also read posts that say 5.6.1.0 is not able to be downgraded or that you can only downgrade from version ABC to XYZ. So my question is would it be possible for me to restore my tablet to 4.5.5.3 or am I stuck now with 5.6.1.0? I'm sorry, I'm not very tech savvy so I want to be sure before I try anything that might hurt the device. I'm not interested in rooting or installing other operating systems. I'm just a simple person that wishes they could have their simple Fire tablet back.
Thank you so much in advance!
It's downgradeable to 4.5.3. At least for Fire HD 6, It works somehow. I just tried it and succeed.
I just followed these steps (https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-hd/general/how-to-downgrade-to-4-5-3-root-device-t3139351)
Thanks for your help. I followed the steps you listed and was able to downgrade to Fire OS 4.5.3. I successfully had the device up and running. The device also said "New update 4.5.5 available. Click here to update." I clicked yes, since this would return me to the OS 4.5.5 that I was originally running. The tablet showed the Fire logo and said "software updating." Then the screen went blank and now I can't turn the device on. What should I do?
Hello, I am a noobie, recently acquired the Amazon fire HD 3rd gen (thor) and decided to install a custom os. I installed CM 14.1 following the instructions here and all worked great till I decided to have xposed framework installed into it. Unfortunately I think I flashed a wrong version using TWRP and my device won't boot, charge or get recognized via adb. I tried the instructions at https://www.lifewire.com/kindle-fire-wont-turn-on-or-charge-4684682 but it still won't show any sign of life.
Is my kindle totally dead?

Likely failed to unlock the bootloader. Device will soft brick if Xposed (and/or Magisk) is flashed on locked hardware. That brick will be more severe if you indeed used a "wrong" (incompatible) Xposed build. Probably not recoverable with reasonable effort if it won't accept a charge.
@draxie - opinion?
Points of clirification:
- your 3rd gen Thor is a HDX; big difference from HD hardware
- the ROM flashed was likely Lineage 14.1, not CM
Thanks for the clarifications.
Well if only it could detect on my laptop, then i could use adb then I can bring it back well i will hang on to this tab a little longer but have lost all hope for it. This is a painful lesson learnt but all the best!

If you have access to a Linux or MacOS box, you could always try 1-Click.
It's free of charge and won't make it worse... ;^)
Are you seeing any kind of logo on the screen, or is it pitch black?
In the latter case, how would you know if it's charging or not?
Also, have you tried holding the power button 5+ *minutes*?
I got one of these Diamond Resorts tablets given to me brand new in the box. It runs really slow and has an old OS 4.4.2 I believe. I rooted the tablet but now it appears I need a ROM tailored specifically to this device in order to update the OS? New to all of this so unsure of the proper vernacular. There is no option to update the tablet automatically, that functionality appears to be disabled even with me rooting the tablet via Kingo Root. The tablet is an Azpen with the model number a1045dri. I'm trying to upgrade the OS in the hopes the tablet will not run so slow and be so laggy. Any help is appreciated. Thanks
Hi
I also have one of these tablets.
Azpen seems to have already stopped supporting them back in 2017.
I got an update to 4.4.3 in 2017.
I wanted to try to use it again.
anychance you got any luck with updating yours?
I attempted to update & now mine only loads to diamond logo.

Hi,
I don't know what happened, but right now my tablet is stuck on what I call the pre-load screen (the one that displays the amazon arrow, the word fire, and the three dot's that indicate the system is loading the o.s. ). I've tried everything I know to try, this morning I installed this program on my windows 10 pro 64-bit computer
: https://developer.android.com/studio , my tablet has the following installed on it fire o.s. 6.3.1.4 . I've also installed the sdk file's for android 6 & 7, I've never used the studion software before. My goal is to not have to perform a factory reset because I've got my tablet setup the way I want it. Has anyone else had this issue, and if so how did you correct it ?
Thanks,
David
Update:
I ended up performing a factory reset on my tablet. I'm rather surprised that nobody replied to my post.
Thread closed as OP figured his issue out on his own.
