Will do!
I've tried Remix OS on 5 computers including my own and I've noticed a pattern. Mine and the other one it booted up successfully on had Intel processor + Intel graphics, there was one that did fail to load but it was a way too old PC so I can't really blame the OS. The other two computers that failed to boot the OS had AMD/nVidia GPUs.
Still, I believe over time the OS will accommodate a wider range of chipsets.

Remix OS for PC allows you to experience Remix OS on a vast array of existing Intel-based PCs already out in the world (including even some Macs). Just add nouveau.modeset=1 i915.modeset=0 to get Nvidia to work.

where do i add that (nouveau.modeset=1 i915.modeset=0 to get Nvidia) ?

Nvidia fix not perfect..
Crashes the system for example opening a jpeg using stock gallery.. but when using with Intel HD 3000 (integrated with Intel Core i5 2500K CPU) works just fine. btw my Nvidia GPU is GTX 550ti.(Fermi)
I hope support for Nvidia GPU are getting more better than Intel or AMD..

That worked! Unfortunately, I have a Realtek WiFi USB adapter that Remix fails to recognize so no Internet. Gonna have to wait after all.

Windows NT on Ameo

Since Windows NT supports RISC CPU's, and the PPC CPU's are based on RISC, I was wondering if it is possible to somehow install Windows NT on an Pocket Pc.
What do you guy's think ?
Not snowball's chance in hell. NT was only ever built for x86, SPARC, MIPS and ALPHA (I think there may have been a couple of others) - never for any ARM cores. Same goes for Win 9x/ME/2k/XP/Vista/Whatever.
-- The only alternative OSes you are ever likely to see are *nix/BSD derivatives. --
yes, but what i meant is that nt supports risc cpu architecture. so thats why my question came up
fek NT - get ubuntu
so could i install ubuntu?
they got a new ubuntu-mobile edition comming up
would that work?

RISC Architecture is not a "standard" like x86, it's more a theory of processor archiecture design. Windows NT supported some RISC architecture processor families as it supported some CISC processors. One might argue that since it supported CISC, it should run on Motorola 680x0 or Natsemi 32016. Clearly it doesn't
You specificially said NT so this probably doesnt help, but there are tutorials and guides out there to help you get Win95/98 emulated and away on your PPC. Runs sub-par though, but if I recall this was done back in 2005, PPCs and emulating software might have come a long way since then..

[Q] x86 emulator (QEMU, BOCHS etc) slow on x86 based Android

Hi,
I hope this is the right place to ask. I haven't found anything similar until now.
I was experimenting with QEMU, x86 emulator on Android on my Asus Memo FHD tab which is already based on an x86 Atom architecture.
I see way slower speeds (unusable) than I read about arm based counterparts. I assume this is because QEMU assumes ARM architecture and the x86 atom is also emulating ARM.
-Is there an other way to emulate a complete x86 system faster on this architecture?
Thank you!

QEMU is extremely slow because it interprets and convferts code on the fly.
You would be better off to burn an iso of this http://sourceforge.net/projects/android-x86/files/Release 4.4/android-x86-4.4-RC1.iso/download
and burn it to usb stick with Unetbootin. THen boot off of that with a pc that can do so.

Thanks, running x86 virtual OS (Windows) on an android tablet sounded fun and I was just wondering if there is a more efficient solution for systems already based on x86. I guess there isn't.
Thanks!

Well, there is an emulator I use, but it is extremely slow also. We just don't have native virtualization acceleration support on our processors in the phones. Otherwise it would be lightning speed.

Found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2600589
Based on the specification the intel Atom Z2560 (x86) cpu supports virtualization, however there is not software to utilize this yet.
I hope this changes, it could be useful.
Looks like someone has already did it. I hope it'll be available for the public.

Severe graphical issues

Hi, I've tried running Remix OS off a USB stick on a pretty rubbish old emachines laptop with an AMD Athlon 2650e and a Mobility Radeon X1200. I get constant flickering and black triangles all over the screen. I get no issues if I boot with nomodeset but it is extremely low res and laggy. Any ideas on how to fix this? Cheers.
Yeah...no. Jide considers PCs as having Intel only hardware: Intel CPU and Intel graphics.
NVidia and AMD are not Intel so they are not PCs - so no support.
Really it should be called "Remix OS for old Intel laptops" instead of "Remix OS for PC".

Unfortunately, you're going to have to use nomodeset for the time being until more drivers are added to Remix OS.

But let's be complete in this answer. Using nomodeset when not having an integrated graphics card means CPU overheat as every simple and singular animation on the screen will be rendered by the CPU. Even if you have the best Intel Core i7 with Hyperthreading technology and latest overclocking ASUS or MSI gaming motherboards - it will be of no use. Your system will crawl while running Remix OS and the CPU will overheat.
Do not take lightly the overheat issue. I almost fried my CPU because I left it update all my Android apps with the Google Play Store on the screen. Remember all those download animations in the Google Play Store app while updating? Yeah...my CPU was screaming at 70-80 degrees for about 10 minutes. 10 minutes while updating 5 apps - because WiFi is also a ***** in Remix OS. Enjoy...

With a crappy Athlon processor using nomodeset seemed like everything was running at less than a frame per second. The thing gets hot enough as it is. I've tried Chromium, Remix and Android x86 and every one has the same graphics issue. Guess I'll have to go back to something like Linux lite. Even that manages to lag.

As I said before, go buy a Chromebook. It's cheap as a very old second-hand laptop and it works great. You will soon get Android Play Store so you'll be able to run all your favorite Android apps. Plus you will get guaranteed quality and an officially supported Google device. Throw away your old PC - you don't need it anymore. There's nothing to justify keeping it around. With Remix OS you'll always run into hardware issues. Get a new, cheap, properly supported device. 200 EUR for a new, good looking, fully supported and that will soon have all Android Play Store - what are you waiting for?
EDIT: sorry if that sounded like a bad and cheap commercial. It's just that I don't understand the need for a hacked, lacking, limited Remix OS when we have the official Google supported solution: Chromebooks.

Fan keeps spinning at abnormal speeds.

Hi! I've installed RemixOS in my Asus Zenbook UX501VW and after dealing with NVIDIA incompatibilities and DPI scaling issues, I've finally booted it. While everything seems to work quite great, there's a strange problem that makes me turn off the laptop after a few minutes of usage: The fans start spinning at full speed (they don't do that noise even rendering 4K games in Windows). The laptop doesn't get warm or even make weird things, it just works fine! I can't live with that spinning because it's way too loud, more than the actual built-in, although crappy, B&O speakers. I don't do anything wrong for this, It just starts making noise right after finishing the boot process. The noise is pretty similar to the fan noise while upgrading a BIOS in almost any fan-powered laptop, which leads me to think that something between the BIOS and RemixOS is not communicating properly.
Laptop Specs:
CPU: Intel Core i7 (6th Gen) 6700HQ / 2.6 GHz
RAM: 16GB
DISPLAY: 4K IPS LG Screen
DRIVE: 512GB Samsung SSD
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M - 2 GB GDDR5 SDRAM
Model: ASUS ZENBOOK PRO UX501VW-DS71T
Thanks in advance!
The reason is mostly related to no use of GPU and your CPU is taking care of graphics rendering.
You are probably using the option:
androidboot.swrast=1
to boot.
Try EXTMOD=i915 in the grub.cfg instead of androidboot.swrast=1

Got you! If it boot with androidboot.swrast=1 however the fan spinning is due to CPU overloaded in managing the video.
You can search this thread for confirmation.
The option I suggested works if you have Intel internal GPU beside the NVIDIA.
Probably we need to wait next release. Remix team seems working to fix it.

Well yes, I have Intel integrated graphics (I think it's the Intel HD 530 IIRC) but it seems that the laptop forces the Nvidia chip to run first. Even forcing the Integrated graphics to run it will not boot, The only way to get it booting is by disabling both and let the CPU do all the work. Some laptops have an option to set the priority video mode, but mine doesn't seems to have such option. So yes, the best thing to do is wait until Remix OS team manages to fix this.. thanks!

Thanks!
yeah new toys
heh new remix os device.
Does anyone see where it says what chip they are using for this. I would HATE to get this like the Mini and be stuck on a device that will NOT get updates in the future. 2GB is also very much on the low side for a console you would like to run games on.

Exactly. The 2GB RAM can still be tolerated when the Remix Mini was first dreamed up last year (2015) but a BIG no-no for a 2017 model. Not with this NEW Remix IO.
Speaking of performance, I wonder why didn't they go for some SoC that has at least the ARM Cortex-A72 cluster in addition to the low power Cortex-A53 cluster to improve performance.

Possibly for cost but I have been reading where they may address the RAM. I dont know if that will make it to the Kickstarter buyers.
So what chip would u like to see?

x86 support
Does the Remix team plan on releasing this software version for x86 like the current Remix OS? It would be awesome to load on my old chromebox instead of openelec.

Chip with a least a pair of Big-Core (ARM Cortex-A72 or something along that line) in addition to the cluster of Small-Core (ARM Cortex-A53) from a manufacturer that is better in term of Android support than the one in Remix Mini who refused to cooperate with Remix on the Marshmallow upgrade. We don't want the same disaster, do we?

Well Intel tryed to build some atom phones with the asus zenphone 2 so I'm not sure but it can be comparable. Anyway low consumption and big little is useless with a tv box without battery...no limit in power here. It use a wall socket after all.
But I can imagine a nice tv box with a cherry trail atom.
And the uefi part mean: you can mod a system yourself.

To be fair to ARM and its big.LITTLE™, low power is not useless. All things being equal, low power can also be translated into less heat. I'm sure you know what less heat means to longevity, packaging etc of a product.

well no mostly because I live near a desert area so all those passive TV boxes overheat here what ever CPU they have. I know a fan add a failure point but a fan is just needed here.
most computer we build here have oversized coolers.
so this is why I am interested with the Io having a fan.
and to me usability comes first with performance.
this is not a phone after all

I have pledge remix io+ but please guys let us ask Jide to include a microphone in the controller so that we can do voice search over YouTube and use Google now voice search. I sent them an email asking this. Please guys send an email too. This is a function that needs to be implemented. Put a microphone in the controller like nvidia shield
Why a vga port for this great device?
