Hello, I'm facing an awful time in here, First part : last night my mobile Samsung S3 wasn't able to register to the mobile network, I gave it to a technician and he made a deep format without taking a backup, (deep format because mobile was rooted, so he erased everything).
I was lucky that I already have a backup from whatsapp and an old backup from contacts.
well, I restored the whatsapp folder to the mobile and installed it from the play store using the mobile number "B" but when I tried to restore I get a message saying "unable to restoer your chats from this backup"
Second Part: I was using the mobile number "A" with whatsapp, but it got disconnected from awhile, so when whatsapp sking for the mobile number to restore the backup, I enter the number "B". I think this is why I not able to restore the DB.
I'm using the same mobile, same gmail account, same contacts and same everything, but not the same mobile number, is there anyone who can help me get my messages back to work with the new number ?!!!
There is nothing you can do as they link account by phone number. Can't really say much more as most people stopped using the app a few years ago. (at least in the states)
It will be my pleasure to donate by 20$ those who will give me a personal support and fix my problem

The only way is to contact them and get your number changed or get your number back.
They link accounts by phone numbers, no way around it.
thank you for replying, but at least how I can decrypt what I have now ?! I tried many things but it doesn't work for crypt 8, I don't have the key file, and it wasn't there before and now I installed whatsapp on another device and also not find the key file even in the hidden folders !!!
and what people use now instead of whatsapp !?

Most moved over to telegram and others like hangouts.
You most likely won't find it as it's most likely stored off device on their servers.

Basically, every time I send a new text to someone (as opposed to replying), it starts a new thread instead of adding to the existing thread. Then, responses come in split randomly between the two threads. Is there a way to fix this? It began happening after I upgraded to Gingerbread.
Thanks
This only happened to me with 1 contact. Everyone else that txted me came in fine. For that 1 contact ..I deleted the number, re-added it ..fixed. try it.
Sent from my AWESOME Atrix
Ok I think I solved it my last solution wasn't did not continue to work.
your contacts need to be stored / saved as
this format +12223331234 and some work with just 2223331234
but all work with the first (so far)
(111) 222-3333, +1-111-222-3333 both fail
if you look how the sms db stores them its like the format first mentioned and when using that format there are no duplicates

Sorry I kind of forgot about this thread.
It happens with everyone in my contacts list, but only at random times (sometimes with the same contact a new message will start a new thread, sometimes it won't). All of my numbers are 16458879987 format
mine only happens from friend with nukbers in Facebook profiles. Blur (for some reason) uses the facebook number before my stored number and splits it out between contact. If I stop syncing with facebook...I'm good (or if the number matches facebook and the stored number on my phone/blur)

Uninstall and then reinstall whatsapp again. During first setup U will be asked to restore your messages.
BTW: wrong forum to ask such things.

Allready tried this: http://www.whatsapp.com/faq/en/android/20887921 ?
Read "Restoring older (less recent) backups".
Reinstall the application and use backup. In another way you may use WhatsAppOnlineBackup.

use ur account username then password, not phone number
Have tried with all options, phonenumber / account name / email ... Nothing works
Sent from my Redmi Note 3 using XDA Premium HD app
This worked for me!
Hi,
I have had the same problem and I managed to find a fix. If you have linked your Instagram to your Facebook then you may try and use that to login, works that way.
If it still doesn't work then you should try and log-out of any other accounts that you might have logged in. I logged out of my other account and then the two-factor authentication worked.
It worked.. THanks..

In fact I did ... sounds a bit stupid, but I saw when I "auto-fill" my personal data there was always a "empty space" included ... so the data digits were +1 and so it didn't match.
So maybe this could help you ? eyes wide open and have a look when enter you data digits without "empty spaces"
good luck and have glass of wine, cheers from Belgium

this sounds mad but it worked for me .
make sure your username and password are correct , even if this means requesting a new one , then instead of going to login or facebook login or any of that go to sign up, then fill in the new username as your old one , when it trys to recommend a new one replace it with your existing username, then use the same password etc and suddenly it jumps straight back into your old account bypassing the two step. worth a try as thats exactly what mine did. once there i just immediately turned off the junc two step option.
hope this helps
Hi there, after browsing the internet for what seemed an eternity, I found a fix.
If you've a phone number linked to the account (which you will have considering you've 2 factor authentication switched on), try logging in with that.
If that doesn't work, try your username.
If that doesn't work, try email.
I was attempting to log in with email and it wouldn't work. Same with phone number.
The moment I tried my user-name, it worked for me.
The code sent to my phone worked. Stupid right?
I hope this helps
Invalid parameter
Hey guys, i had the same problem as you... but somehow i managed to login... so the solution was: instead of typing the code they sent me I typed one of the codes they gave me at the very beggining when I activated the two factor authorisation. (Codes you need to screenshot and save)... so hope this will help
Hello... Even same problem I got it but I found solution what u suppos to do login with Facebook after then u will succefully login.

Hi,
My SGS7 was sent for repairs and I received a temp SGS5.
Before sending it away I performed a backup to Google Drive and also copied the entire WhatsApp folder to my PC.
When I tried to restore the chats to the SGS5 I received a message the restore of my chats has failed and offered me to use an older backup. I tapped "yes" and an hour later nothing has happened yet.
When I cancelled the operation WhatsApp continued with the setup. However, all my private chats were GONE. I could see all the groups I'm a member of, but again, all the chats in them were EMPTY!
I then uninstalled WhatsApp, copied the backup files from my PC to the phone, and reinstalled the app hoping it will pickup the LOCAL folder (like it used to in older versions). But WhatsApp kept trying to restore from my Google Drive backup (which is possibly corrupt). And at the end of the process I had the same empty groups and no private chats.
Since then I uninstalled and reinstalled WhatsApp at least a dozen times, each time using a different msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.db.crypt12, and renaming it to msgstore.db.crypt12.
All the results, with all 7 backup files, were exactly the same: I see all the groups, but no chats. And no private chats.
Since then I received a couple of new messages in private chats, and the messages in these 2 chats are showing regardless of which msgstore.db.crypt12 I'm using.
It's as if WhatsApp is reading my messages from somewhere else!
Can anyone help?
I have some info in chats that is important to me and really don't want to lose.
Will appreciate ANY help.

Hi there, I hope you are doing well.
I'm quite desperated today. I recently change my phone number because I started a new job (about a week ago) and I also got a new corporate phone for it.
My old Note 8 was sitting in a drawer, as I've tried to make backups and move things over, the past few days. Today, when I went to open WhatsApp there, I got redirected back to the "Send SMS Verification" screen; locking me out of seeing my own messages that are stored in the SQLIte databases (msgstore.db.crypt12) in my own device!
From what I've been reading, the most probably cause is that a new subscriber to the phone company received my old number and created a new WhatsApp account. I know that they won't be seeing my messages, as those are stored in my device and encrypted with.
What I'd need to retrieve is my WhatsApp encryption key, located in /data/data/com.whatsapp/files/key to read my messages, but, obviously, needs root. My phone is not rooted and, from what I've also been reading, if I went to root it with any of the know methods, it would wipe everything and I'd lose that key.
Is there any way in which I can gain root and copy that file, without wiping? If not, is there any way I can create a "low-level" backup that woul ALSO backup that data; to later restore (after rooted). I think that all the common backups in the Play Store will, of course, not be able to access that data to backup. But I don't know about any of the Samsung bloated own apps (like Cloud Backups, Smart Switch, etc.); if those would work in my scenario.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide; looking forward to hear back from you.
Regards.

WhatsApp app itself has to create a backup of the chats.
In WhatsApp settings - Chats - Chat backup.
If you have to change your mobile number, there is a feature in WhatsApp to migrate your data, chats, settings, etc. to your new phone number. And to inform your WhatsApp contacts that you have a new number.
In WhatsApp settings - Account - Change number.
If there is a new WhatsApp account created with your old number, it might be too late now.
Thanks for your inpur @It_ler.
I know that you can migrate the WhatsApp number and how the procedure work. The thing is that WhatsApp deactivates accounts with no activity for more than 120 days and now, when opening it again, it tries to send validation to the phone number that I no longer own. Nobody created a new account with that number; as far as I know, it haven't been reassigned yet to another subscriber. Still, all my chat history is in the device itself, but encrypted with the key I can't get access to without rooting, while rooting hard resets (erases) everything; hence losing said key (catch-22).
Do you know of any way in which I could root or get access to the encryption key without having to delete everything?
Thanks again.

Sorry ... no, I don't
And do not forget to activate automatic chat backup into your Google drive for your new/recent chats.
