PLEASE TEST IF YOU HAVE THE multitouch issue BEFORE ROOTING, AS ROOTING WILL VOID YOUR WARRANTY Read this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=46293575&postcount=279. I have not had time to look into this myself unfortunately, as I'm travelling. Better safe than sorry.
Check your device model ! Settings -> About device -> Model number. See the third post for exact supported model numbers. If your device is a totally different model, it will not work (may even brick) !
CF-Root is the root for "rooting beginners" and those who want to keep as close to stock as possible. CF-Root is meant to be used in combination with stock Samsung firmwares, and be the quickest and easiest way for your first root.
Donate
CF-Root has been available for many devices (Galaxy S1, Galaxy Tab 7", Galaxy S2, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy S3, and many more) and has clocked over 16 million downloads. This is not even counting custom ROMs that already include it. Don't be a leech, buy me a beer (and use the "Thanks" button!). Imagine if every CF-Root user has donated me $1...
What's installed
- SuperSU binary and APK
- Stock recovery
Installation and usage
Flash the CF-Auto-Root package as PDA in ODIN (details on how to do that are in next post), and your device should reboot into a modified recovery (signified by a large red Android logo) and it will install SuperSU for you and restore the stock recovery, and reboot back into Android.
If you don't get to the red Android logo, boot into recovery manually ("adb reboot recovery", or boot while holding Power+VolUp+Home).
Did you see the red Android logo during rooting, but SuperSU does not appear? This may sometimes occur due to left-over files and settings, however, you can usually install SuperSU from Google Play at this stage and it'll just work.
Flash counters and KNOX warranty
Using this root method sets current binary and system status to custom. Additionally, it will also trigger the KNOX warranty void status.
This device store the traditional flash counter. Nor is is possible with Triangle Away to reset the current binary status. You will need to flash a stock kernel and stock recovery to reset the binary status.
The KNOX warranty status change is permanent, and a service center may deny warranty based on this flag - even if the other flags are reset correctly. The KNOX flag being tripped may also prevent certain Samsung KNOX features from working (enterprise security features). If this is something you care about, use a root method not based on custom kernels or recoveries, like a modified system partition. These are possible, but I don't personally make them, so look around!
Why isn't this just called CF-Root
The traditional CF-Root's included a custom recovery (CWM, TWRP, etc) and were meant for devices that had a single kernel/recovery combination. CF-Auto-Root doesn't include a custom recovery and is meant for devices that have kernel and recovery separate (so you can manually install any custom recovery you wish). The Auto part comes from the fact that a large part of the process is automated (though it constantly needs adjusting)
Not included - Triangle Away
Unfortunately, Triangle Away cannot currently be used on this device to reset the binary status or KNOX warranty void. It can still usually reset the system status, but that is of limited use.
Not included - adbd Insecure TODO: STILL UNDER DEVELOPMENT. Hopefully I'll get this to work soon.
As this CF-Root does not include a custom kernel, adb shell does not have root access by default (you can still get it by typing su inside the shell), nor is adb remount supported, nor will adb push and adb pull work on system files. adbd Insecure can be used to remedy this situation. (No idea what this is about ? Don't worry about it !)

CF-Auto-Root main thread
[CENTRAL] CF-Auto-Root
For requests for new roots and generic discussion - please keep device specific discussion in the thread you are viewing now.
Follow these instructions to the letter. Do not touch any buttons or checkboxes that are not listed below to touch!
- Download and unzip the CF-Auto-Root-....zip file (see posts below this one)
- If you end up with a recovery.img and cache.img file, you've extracted twice. You need to end up with a .tar.md5 file - don't extract that one
- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start Odin3-vX.X.exe
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Auto-Root-....tar.md5
- Put your phone in download mode (turn off phone, then hold VolDown+Home+Power to boot - if it asks you to press a button to continue, press the listed button, or run adb reboot download command)
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure Repartition is NOT checked
- Click the Start button
- Wait for Android to boot
- Done (if it took you more than 30 seconds, you need practise!)
NOTE: Sometimes the device does *not* boot into recovery mode and root your device. Just do the entire procedure again if this happens. If it still will not install root and such, make sure that in Odin "Auto Reboot" is not checked. Then after flashing, pull the battery, and boot with VolUp+Home+Power button to boot into recovery manually. This will start the install process.
New to Samsung? Unfamiliar with Odin? Think all the above is a hassle? Get used to it. It's very simple, and us Samsung folk use Odin (or Mobile ODIN ) for everything! It's so very very convenient once you get used to it. Notice the 30 second comment above? For experienced users, the entire process indeed takes only 30 seconds!
You may now optionally want to install and run Triangle Away to reset the flash counter.

CF-Auto-Root is not yet available for all carrier-specific Note3's. Link me to stock firmwares for these devices as they appear, and I might be able to make a device-specific CF-Auto-Root.
What is happening Chainfire? The dev are working on some solution for the knox efuse? I am thinking about a software which can restore that flag or a software which skips triggering while rooting.. for this you guys need to sign the modified stuff which is hard. How you see the things at the moment? This is the only thing what is holding me back to buy the note 3 at the moment...
wooohooo... finally.. waiting for SM-n900 version
Waiting your great work for the Exynos model as well...

I was gonna hold off from rooting, but then just thought to myself, any time my previous Samsung phones have had a fault, like with the charging port, or head phone socket, I've just bought the part from eBay and fixed it myself. The only time it's gone back to Samsung was when my Note 2 had the sleep of death.
In which case, they would not be able to tell anything from it as the emmc screwed itself over. In light of this I probably will root it now the big guy @Chainfire has done his magic.
I'm currently still waiting for a response from Samsung about whether warranty on the hardware would still be void if the Knox counter read anything other than 0x0.

No everyone is able to repair their own smartphone with hw parts, like you however please post samsung answer about warranty if Knox counter is voided. I think it's important for everyone to understand their policy about this.

Lol, it honestly isn't difficult in the slightest. Think of it as a jigsaw puzzle. Samsung's are one of the easiest manufacturer of devices to repair. "If" Sammy are so kind to respond to me, I'll be posting the reply as soon as it comes through.

That's what my point is about, sort of, if you brick your phone to the point where you get absolutely no output whatsoever, they wouldn't be able to tell what had happened anyway, and would have to change it.

Have some more information on the phone. The user says they tried to flash 4.4.2 gapps to the phone and installed a ROM that they thought was for the SCH-I605. Before this the phone was rooted and unlocked on 4.1.2 with the 4.3 update downloaded but not able to install (blocked by CWM). I have tried all the combinations I can think of using several ODIN versions on a Windows 7, and two Windows 8.1 machines. Nothing will flash, everyhting just errors out on writing the NAND it looks like. The closest thing I can get to progress is using the N7105 PIT file and the CWM for the SCH-I605. This gives me a boot screen that doesn't blink on and off, but the phone never does anything.
He flashed the 4.3 bootloader for a different device. You have a brick.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using xda app-developers app
I knew it was pretty bad when it was reporting the wrong phone model. Could I use the unbricking method by KOBOL here? Or what can I do to unbrick the device? It was purchased used, so no warranty on it at all.
Thanks
Sometimes I am able to get it to the Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again. But Kies never detects the phone.
I am able to flash the stock I605 recovery, but am not able to enter it. They don't have the file that they flashed that caused this problem. Can I download the I605 bootloader anywhere?
Hi guys,
Sorry if this has already been answered several times but i have read many threads and just feel some information is dated and cannot work out if what im trying to do is possible.
I would like to root my samsung galaxy s6 edge, however i have been reading that the fingerprint scanner stops working along with call audio?
I was wondering if these are still issues? and if not then which is the best way to root without tripping knox counter?
Kind regards
usmxn
It's ok! I'll help you out!
From personal experience, Tripping KNOX gets rid of Samsung Pay functionality, however I do not know about Android Pay or Google Wallet. Tripping KNOX, though, gives you the ability to have fingerprint functionality.
(This isn't from personal experience, just from what many others have said) By not tripping KNOX, you lose fingerprint functionality(seems to be confirmed by lots of people for this), but Samsung Pay should (not 100% sure) work.
As for the call audio issues, this usually applies to the T-Mobile (SM-G925T or SM-G920T) or Canadian (SM-G925W8 or SM-G920W8) Varients of the S6 and S6 Edge. However, if you do have either of the models listed, there is a fix that you can flash.
TL;DR, Tripping KNOX = Loss of Samsung Pay + Working Fingerprint Scanner.
However NOT Tripping KNOX = Possibly working Samsung Pay + Broken Fingerprint Scanner.
I would recommend (if you don't care of Samsung Pay) to root by flashing either Unikernel via ODIN or flashing TWRP through ODIN and then flashing custom ROMS or Kernels through TWRP. (Both Methods Trips KNOX)
I do not know of a way to root without tripping KNOX, sorry! Anyways, for me, losing Fingerprint Scanner functionality is a deal breaker.
I would also recommend NOT Rooting! This is only if you don't want to lose any functionality of your device.

Yeah, no problem.
Here's UniKernel: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...d-development/kernel-stockmod-kernel-t3100395
Download the ODIN Flashable version
ODIN: http://odindownload.com/SamsungOdin/#.VpLZkRUrLIU
Tutorial is quite easy, (This is to only root STOCK Firmware):
1. Download the files you need (UniKernel, ODIN)
2. Turn on Developer Mode (Go to Settings > About Phone, and Spam Tap the Build Number Until it says Developer Mode Turned On) And make sure to enable OEM Unlocking
3. Turn Off the Device and Boot in to Download Mode by Holding Down the Vol. Down, Home Button, and Power Button simultaneously until a cyan screen appears. Then press Vol. Up and you should see ODIN Mode in RED
4. Plug in your device to your pc and launch up ODIN.
5. Go ahead and check the box for AP and browse for the .tar file for UniKernel.
6. Click start and ODIN will begin to flash the kernel.
7. The phone should reboot and then check to see if the Kernel Version in Settings > About Phone says UniKernel.
8. If it does then you should be rooted and have SuperSU installed under Apps.
was trying to root my phone using this guide
http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-galaxy-s3-on-android-4-34-4-2-new/
after following the steps i wasn't able to open cwm or the stock recovery i tried taking off the battery after doing the odin process again but no luck any ideas?
Try CF Autoroot (use search function).
If it doesn't succeed, flash latest 4.3 firmware from sammobile.com, then Autoroot.
I think im gonna postpone the rooting for now so how do I remove the failed cwm I tried flashing a stock recovery but its stuck at pit mapping
Also by flashing firmware (whole ROM)
are there other methods than flashing a whole rom?
are you using the latest odin? if youre using 10.x then try using a lower version which would of been compatible with your model when it was in its prime.
Odin v9.x or 7.x for example.
this is a good automated too with many option and much information all up to date within the program its for pc just connect phone via usb.
http://www.skipsoft.net/?page_id=1197
used it on galaxy s4/5/6 when ran into problems.
im using odin3 v1.85 and the international gt i19300 stock recovery do i have to unzip it first?
thats a very old version of odin. try updating. go to odin official website or search xda
Use odin to flash cfautoroot and you'll be rooted. Simple as.
Connect phone to pc via usb. Open odin, click pda, find cfautoroot file, click ok, click start. Phone will reboot, red text, reboot, Optimise apps.. Done.
You can mess with roms or recoveries to your hearts content.

Stop right there. You do not have the international version.
I believe you have the verizon variant, i747?. The international variant doesn't have qualcomm chips nor bootloader security.
Do not flash anything I9300 as you will brick your device so i have removed the link i gave.
The warranty bit has been triggered but it means nothing if your not selling it to a business.
The qualcomm security bit is basically knox but from what I've read this should stop odin from allowing a flash. If it does there is supposed to be a way around it but seeing as I've never encountered a usa device (i live in the uk) i cannot advise further on that, but maybe someone else can?.
Otherwise it looks normal and could already have the said security patched to allow odin flashes. Otherwise you're flashing via recovery but be careful, you need to confirm your variant first!!.

looks like i wont be getting root access anytime soon i don know anything about the variant since this phone was given to me by my uncle in dubai i hope someone helps me out with this
First of all check in the settings of your phone if it says it is I9300, if it is not, you are not in the proper forum. Then we can move forward.
it says model number samsung gt I9300
I have a fully stock phone note 4 verizon sm-n910v....I believe I may have some firmware corruption. So can I simply use odin and reflash latest stock firmware in download mode WITHOUT rooting or unlocking bootloader or tripping flags, knox..etc....I have tried hard reset with buttons and factory reset from setting...the only reason... is I'm sure phone is slower than it used to be... even after turning off bloatware, clearing cache, and not installing anything extra....I REALLY just wanna complete refresh so I can rule out Hardware issues too....although I tried many hardware related apps they all said everything was good ...So can it be done with odin,pc and copy of stock firmware....without rooting ,no flag tripping etc. .......If so , what is the preferred recomendation...if it won't void warranty etc.....
thank you

Just download right firmware from sammobile, use Odin to flash and you are done, no warranty void or knox tripping will occur.
And about apps making your phone faster? Most don't work and the only reliable ones are for rooted phones and uses system file modifications for a smoother experience.
