Hi, I just today got my S6 Edge back from my carrier after sending it in for warranty repairs. I took the phone home, restored everything and attempted to setup the fingerprint lock when I got the message "An error has occurred with the fingerprint sensor. If this message appears repeatedly, restart your device." I've restarted and even factory wiped a second time to see if that fixes the issue but it did not. How do if fix this WITHOUT SENDING IT IN FOR WARRANTY AGAIN??. I only have 8 days left on my warranty.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that I also tried clearing the fingerprint app cache, that also did not work.
I have an SM-G925W8 on Wind Mobile in Canada.

Warranty repair. Usually you get like 6 months warranty on repair work. But if you arrange the repair now it will be before the end of warranty. How are you out of warranty anyway the s6 is only a year old and has a 2 year warranty.
The Sensor was working properly before the repair.

the carrier only gave me a 1 year warranty and i got this phone on release day.
I will repeat myself. Samsung offer a international 2 year warranty on phones.

Just looking for some opinions and advise here. Got my attic on Craigslist about 6 months back. Was plagued with reboots and having to pull battery a lot. Unlocked it and started flashing anything and everything trying to fix (roms, radios, kernels, cm7, cm9 etc) . Finally settled on neutrino. But still rebooted and froze. Installed wakelock and now works fine. Just found out phone is still under warranty with Motorola. Should I send back or live with wakelock not letting my phone go into deep sleep.
And my wife's attic was also bought off Craigslist. Hers worked great until last update (she is on pure unmolested stock not even ROOTED). Now it reboots, constantly disconnects from wifi, proximity censor issues. Should I send hers back now or wait and hope next update fixes.
My warranty up in October hers in November.
UPDATED: WIFES FIXED. NEED TO GET MINE TO STOCK
I would use the warranty.
On both. I am pretty sure will send hers in. Mine being unlocked worries me a bit. Is going to suck using old backflip while phone gets repaired. Bought these cash so no contracts but from what I have read Motorola will service without receipts.
I would try warranty on locked non-rooted phone. My personal opinion is if you root and unlock it is your problem. We all know(or at least should) the risks that are involved.

I briefly read the warranty. If I remember correctly they don't cover damage done by using other software. And since I had the prob before the software didn't cause prob. Oh and how did you get a straighttalk logo. I don't remember it being an option. 45 unlimited* rocks
Nevermind found straighttalk. Of course after I buy 2 e71's. Just for the sims they start selling them for like 15$…oh well
If you try to send it in the worst they can say is no.Watch tethering and/or laptop dock usage, I have recently received calls from Straight Talk about my data usage.Last month they throttled my data so much the last two weeks that pandora wouldn't even load.
I haven't tethered since my alltel days. Then Verizon got ahold of them. Had to go with straighttalk. Saves me about 60$ a month on my not smart Verizon plan with 2 phones

Send both in under warranty. When you unlock the bootloader is states "MAY" void warranty. I haven't heard of anyone yet being refused warranty for an unlocked bootloader. To the contrary, the forums are full of people having no issues. Some people have received replacement phones which they cannot unlock however, so it seems Motorola is trying to prevent anyone in the future unlocking again.

Send in both. Turnaround time with Motorola is actually quite fast, and they should have them two or 3 days max.
I sent in my bootloader unlocked Atrix already (digitizer issues) , but I did use a method found here on XDA to hide the unlocked text from the boot screen.
Good luck.

Sending in wife's soon. I may try a factory reset with hers first. Forgot that I haven't tried that since they updated. I don't mess with her phone much. I am going to get mine back to stock and send it in when hers gets back (only have one backup phone)
Factory reset didn't help. Sent in. It arrived at motorepair friday
Send in both.
On the unlocked one, just flash back to stock. Very simple. Takes 5 minutes. Hides the unlocked text, and "re-locks" the bootloader.
Did that for mine, and Motorola replaced it.
What's the warranty lemgth on these?
One year, but the service rep told me that on this issue if it is not to long over they warranty it anyway.

Sent in wife's phone. It should be back tomorrow. A bit anxious to see if it was fixed or replaced or still messed up. Will post after tested
You can check the service status on the website and it will tell exactly what they did regarding your case.
Good guy moto
I had to send mine in for warranty repair once, I didn't read about the proper way to unlock the bootloader back in the day. Even while rooted with a custom ROM they did a warranty replacement. Hopefully yours comes back okay with no issues.
well the wife's phone is back today. still has same issues. the ones i know of are not connecting to wifi without rebooting. proximity sensor issues. and there is a error force close message that keeps coming up. gues I call moto tomorrow. Back to repair shop in mexico hurray:silly:

If you can find any dead spots with the touch screen, that is another big issue with the atrix.
My HOX+ (international model) worked fine for months, but yesterday it suddenly lost signal and now it's stuck in the airplane mode. When that happened, I didn't reboot, upgrade or otherwise tampered with the phone. The phone was rooted and had Elegancia ROM 4.5.0 installed long time ago.
This problem is mentioned in few other threads, but in my case the phone randomly comes out of the airplane mode by itself for few minutes and then goes back. During these short periods everything works - i.e. I can make calls and get 3G data and see IMEI. That happens once every few hours. Perhaps this was the case for other people as well, but nobody mentioned that so far. Wi-Fi does work all the time, though - so only cellular network is broken.
I wiped cache, simulated battery pull, and installed Elegancia ROM 5.2.0 and re-flashed boot.img from it. Nothing helps. It looks like hardware problem, but before I try repair options, perhaps anyone here has other ideas.
Speaking of hardware repairs, does anyone have experience with repairing rooted HTC phones ? I understand that unlocking bootloader voids warranty, but they will still repair it for a fee - right ?

Can you remember when those situations are happening if the cellular network signal is weak in this area? Is this problem occurring everywhere or specifically in a zone area e.g. only work, only at home, etc.?
Are you using the Power Saver mode?
Maybe your SIM card is just a bit loose in it's support, try to install a "scotch" tape cut-to-size on its back, it only takes 5 minutes to try and its free!

Not at all! Your warranty with your provider can be void, but not with HTC.
Many reports of the same issue with the Nexus Galaxy HERE
Yes, I am absolutely positive now it's a hardware problem. The same SIM card works perfectly in another phone, and other SIM cards don't work in this HOX+ with the same symptoms. The phone doesn't even notice absence of SIM card when there's none - it says "No Service", and doesn't say "No SIM Card", which it normally did before.

That is not what HTC told me. Their phone representative said that unlocking bootloader voids the warranty, regardless of how your purchased the phone.
I was ready to go ahead with paid repair, but after checking IMEI number, they told me this is a global (C2) model, originating in UK, and not only their warranty doesn't apply here, HTC USA won't even repair it for a fee because they don't have necessary parts. This was factory-unlocked international HTC One X+ (model S728E), purchased on US eBay, and yes - it is UK model, so I'm stuck now. I'll update when I talk to HTC in UK.
Update
As promised, I am posting an update to this story.
I called HTC UK and they said if the problem is not caused by firmware modification, it will be covered by warranty.
I filled RMA request on HTC UK support site, but then they changed their mind and told me that repair will cost because of the unlocked bootloader.
I didn't have any other options at that point, so I installed stock ROM, unrooted and re-locked bootloader and sent the phone to UK service center. I used the cheapest USPS shipping (about $20) and it took about 2 weeks for the phone to get there from NY, but once it got there, I received back repaired working phone here in the US in a couple of days. I was not charged any money for this, after all.
The serial number of the phone remained the same, but IMEI changed, which confirms that the problem was in hardware indeed.
By the time I got the phone back from UK, my eBay seller obtained RMA from US HTC (which they denied me directly).
This whole experience demonstrated that:
US HTC support is useless. Everything several of their representatives told me turned out to be outright BS.
UK HTC support is excellent.
HTC doesn't seem to have consistent policy regarding unlocked bootloaders. Formally unlocking voids warranty (at least on non-developer units), but in reality it probably doesn't, if the the hardware is faulty
My experience
HI,
I have an HOX which had the standard HTC firmware from new. The battery needed replacing so contacted my network provider who agreed to “replace” the battery for me.
Received the phone back, not my phone but a refurbished phone which now had branded firmware, not overly happy about that! But I did have “my” phone back.
After reinstalling all the apps I use regularly and using the phone for three days, I noticed that I could not get any network coverage for approx. 24 hours. I called at the network provider shop where the assistant said that it was unusual and appeared to be stuck in airplane mode, which I hadn’t noticed. After using factory reset and a new sim the problem was still evident.
Two options; return it to the network provider for repair or try one of the larger shops which have a technician on site.
Whilst deciding what to do (over lunch) my phone started working correctly all the network information appeared in the “about” menu, great, sorted. I assumed the new sim need to “register” its self :/ However, several hours later the phone again showed no network signal!!!!
I just left the phone to one side and decided that I should send it back for repair, again.
Having left the phone untouched, it again started working, the only thing that I noted was that each time it started working it had turned off power saver mode. I have left power saver off and for the last 24 hours the problem has not reoccurred. Early days, but fingers crossed
In summary I guess it is a firmware problem based on my experience.
I hope this helps anyone who experiencing the same problems.
Hey,
My i9300's screen has recently stopped working, in three phases -
1. The screen started to show a white vertical line on the right of the screen.
2. The screen has turned completely black (touch still works + could see the text in a dark room).
3. Screen is black, turning in on shows a green light on the right of the screen. Touch still works (current state).
The phone did not suffer from any fragile before these screen issues.
I am trying to understand what the problem is, and whether a new screen will be required.
Another (related, obviously) question is about the warranty.
I purchased the phone in a UK shop which only provides 1-year warranty (which expired).
I also have a SAMSUNG warranty card, which states 24-months warranty. My phone is rooted and the warranty card is empty (shop didn't fill in its details).
1. Do any of you recognize the problem, and can suggest how to fix it (which parts should be replaced).
2. Do you have tips I could use for the Samsung warranty? Will Samsung care if the phone is rooted when fixing a hardware issue? Would they even accept a phone from me directly (and not from a retailer)?
Thanks alot for your time.
If the screen is physically undamaged then contact Samsung, warranty is 24 month from manufacturer or from purchase receipt date.
There is nothing you can do yourself, apart from flash a stock rom via odin to unroot (you can do this without a working screen).
As long as flash counter is zero then warranty should be good.

I have been using the Samsung galaxy note 4 for the best part of 10 months with no major issues, except the phone getting hot, most noticeably after the Lollipop update in April. From Wed 29th*July my phone has been freezing, and then immediately rebooting with no rhyme or reason; whether I’m on an important business phone call, checking business e-mails, using a messenger app, browsing the internet, or even if the phone is just sitting there untouched. On several occasions it will just appear to shut off or get stuck on the Samsung logo screen and the only way to rectify this is to pull the battery out. What’s worse is, the phone gets really hot during these reboots, and upon restart, the battery drains by 5-10%. In fact, the phone can get so hot that it is actually uncomfortable to place it in my pocket. And that’s just because of the reboots, and not general usage. Simply put, the phone is no longer fit for purpose.
The fault first appeared on 29th*July 2015. The phone just randomly restarted whilst I was using a messaging app. Then, during one of the several random reboots that occurred hereafter until Tuesday 4th August (the day I went to get my phone repaired), I got the message, “Downloading. Do not turn off target!!!”
The phone was stuck on this screen for 5 minutes, so I had to take the battery out to get it working again.
On another occasion I got a more sinister message, “Kernel panic upload mode” which really concerned me so I rang the nearest authorised Samsung repair centre – Fleet Mobile in New Eltham. However, after having a word with them, they said they don’t fix the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
So my next port of call was the CRC Samsung Repair Centre in Surrey Quays. I spoke to them on the phone on Friday 31st*July, and explained my problem of constant rebooting and the inexplicable messages in as explained above, so they suggested I pay them a visit.
On Tues 4th*Aug 2015, I visited the CRC Samsung repair centre, and I told the assistant about the issue and the messages I received as per above. The assistant said he had never come across such a message before, so he went to ask the technician. He came back and said the technician too had never come across this message on an Android device, and that it was “only specific to iOS products”. So I asked if I could speak to the technician myself and tell him that I had seen this message on rebooting, but I was told by the assistant that the technician was too busy to have a word with me. He also said that the technician had been dealing in Android software for many years and had never seen this message appear. I wanted to tell the technician that this was not just specific to Apple products because I had witnessed it with my very own eyes.
So the assistant flashed the phone at the store and told me that it was taking a long time to boot. I was told they would have to keep it for 2 days. I asked what likely work would be carried out and his answer was, “that is something the technician would have to decide.”**So I asked him what his thoughts were, and he said it’s more than likely that it’s a hardware issue and that the motherboard (PBA) would be replaced free of charge.
Whilst at the repair centre on the day of collection (6th*Aug), I noticed that my Android version was 4.4.4, but my phone had 5.0.1 installed when I gave it in. At this point, the warranty was still intact. I gave the phone back to the assistant to update my phone to 5.0.1, and questioned him as to why this had happened. His reply was that even though the IMEI number of the phone had been transferred to the new motherboard, they forgot to update the software. I was obviously very suspect at this moment, because it showed poor workmanship and neglect.
On returning home that evening, the same reboot procedure happened again a couple of times, and my heart just sank because I truly thought that my phone would be fixed. During one of the reboots, I got the message, “"Kernel is not seandroid enforcing. Set warranty bit: kernel". I was hugely alarmed by this message and rang the service centre on Friday 7thAug, informing them of this. They suggested I bring the phone back in for repair.
The phone continued to get hot, freeze and continuously reboot multiple times last night. I ordered another battery from Amazon (total cost, £12.00) to see if it would help the situation. The following morning the phone was off even though it still had 50% battery the last night. I tried turning it on but it just wouldn’t switch on. I plugged the charger in and still it wouldn’t switch on. The new battery arrived today so I inserted that. To my amazement, the phone did not start up. I am now left with a completely unusable phone.*
Now Samsung are saying that due to these error messages, the Knox warranty has been tripped, so the warranty is void. They're suggesting that the phone has been rooted by myself by installing some unauthorised software. I've argued with them saying i have never even thought of rooting my phone because i wouldn't want to void the remaining 14 months warranty that is left on the phone. They have said i may have unintentionally installed some app that has caused the phone to be rooted. I only download apps from the Google play store. I even rang Google I up amd they verified that i had not installed any illegitimate apps.
My question is, can an app root a phone?? If so, how?
Does anyone know what caused the random reboots and the error messages described above. To me it sounds like a fatal hardware issue but Samsung are pretty sure it's software related. The problem i face now is that Samsung refuse to fix the phone for free because the warranty has been void, which i don't buy.
I'm wondering if they installed an old motherboard which may have been rooted, but they are adamant that they only replace with new motherboards.
Someone please help me out here. I am not willing to pay a single penny to get it fixed because I strongly stand by the fact that I have not rooted the phone and hence voided the warranty. Samsung Knox is a flawed security software.

Can i dig thread? Since i am facing a reboot issue also currently.
Just asking for options
Basically, rooted S9 PLUS with Magisk only to give root and nothing else touched. Stock firmware. About 6 weeks into faultless use and Magisk doing its thing with hidiing root for apps that complain if root detected, I started noticing screen issues
I did diagnostic test with *#0*# which shows a blatent deadzone near bottom of screen making phone usable but far from ideal for a 2 month old device
Unrooted phone by installing latest stock firmware and installing CSC to do a full complete wipe taking the phone back to out of box condition firmware wise. Phone shows its now unrooted running stock firmware for T-Mobile/EE (EVR UK). Everything works as should except obviously KNOX counter is tripped. Been using it like this for about two weeks. Screen issues not getting any worse
Took to Samsung repair centre in Manchester when I was over there, after speaking to Samsung UK about screen issues who said take it to nearest repair centre as it does sound like a hardware fault (plenty of reports of users with deadzones, some a LOT worse than mine). They ran it through their diagnostic software and the Samsung Reapir Centre that showed it may have been rooted previously. They couldn't prove it had been rooted other than their software said it has/had been rooted. as its now back on stock firmware fully installed via ODIN and all tests show its stock again They showed me screen in front of me showing message saying rooted but no other faults showing at all
Basically they cannot repair under warranty as its a new motherboard to take it back to as new under warranty repair, plus a new with a new screen due to the original deadzone fault
They couldn't explain why it shows rooted as I just played dumb and said if its been rooted, why is there nothing showing that fact apart from you saying its been rooted and there is nothing to show otherwise in firmware checks by your software. All apps work as they should if unrooted and they couldn't offer an explanation after checking a few other things via their software and doing various firmware updates to the screen software
The only suggestion they could offer was to take it back to local shop and have them send it off for repair and say nothing about what they found, but report faulty screen and see what happens. The T-Mobile shop 'may' replace it but cannot guarantee they will. Samsung Reapair centre said all they can do is repair it, they will NOT exchange for a new device as they are ONLY a repair centre. But won't do it under warranty as its showing KNOX is tripped and possible rooted in past
My argument was its 2 month old, its a know hardware screen fault recognized by Samsung and if it has been rooted and your software cannot show anything else why is it not covered under warranty as that isn't likely to cause an obvious hardware fault that IS known by Samsung
Thanks
And now you want an option of a shop, where the people are also dumb, so you can still play dumb if they find out with their software that the phone was rooted and they will repair it under warranty ?
Yes
Because if the device has a hardware fault that has been recognised and reluctantly admitted by the company involved, that isn't caused by said software I installed then sure why not.
Maybe make the device have the inability to upload custom firmware instead of having a built-in upload option and not have an option to install a custom bootloader, then said company can argue I caused the hardware fault
Anymore helpful suggestions, I'm sure you can manage that as you are senior member
Your option is to take Samsung to small claims court.
Obviously you didn't read the following in almost any root guide available for Samsung devices.

Sorry, but you made the decision to root your phone despite full disclaimers made about the potential consequences.
More than likely their software is more checking for the Knox counter as opposed to currently having root enabled.

I guessed that, and having personally rooted every Samsung phone and countless custom ROMs and fixing my own screw-ups along the way going back at least 5 year, I didn't seen an issue with rooting another Samsung device
The Note 3 I still use, the wife now has the S7 Edge I upgraded the S9 Plus from (which is now on latest official stock firmware and now running Magisk instead of SuperSU so she can get any official updates) I didn't see any real Rissues with tripping the KNOX counter as all phones have run and still run perfectly
Just a pity that the S9 PLUS is having hardware issues with their screens and deadzone faults. I thought waiting 3-4 months would have shown any potential issues before I went for an upgrade
Just have to try sending it off for repair through T-Mobile. The worst they can do is simply sending it back quoting warranty void and just live with the crap deadzone. It didn't help that even the reapir centre said your going to have an uphill struggle trying to get a new device out of them as its outside the 30-day no quibble exchange policy. It started playing up after I'd had it about 6 weeks
I've had a rooted S3 replaced in the past, but that was a dead motherboard so they couldn't prove it was rooted. New motherboard and rooted it again. Its still in my posession and still works but with yet another screen waiting replacement thanks to my clumsy daughter and her cracking yet another screen
I've got an S5 waiting screen replacement, that just died and claimed warranty void, it had about a month left so no point arguing the case. The wife needed a phone so got a good deal on a S7 which now has a smashed beyond use screen due to her dropping it on the screen and refusing a screen protector or case as it didn't look nice before she dropped it one day onto concrete at a zoo with grandkids. Not a happy chap as I bought teh phoen ina deal
So, rooting and repairing my personal phones isn't an issue, just the hardware KNOX is a pain to deal with
EU laws suggest otherwise as the onus is on the company to show I damaged the device instead of admitting a hardware fault as ist less than 6 months old, but then its a big struggle to convince them that instead of "KNOX is tripped warranty void" response
