I have been using the Samsung galaxy note 4 for the best part of 10 months with no major issues, except the phone getting hot, most noticeably after the Lollipop update in April. From Wed 29th*July my phone has been freezing, and then immediately rebooting with no rhyme or reason; whether I’m on an important business phone call, checking business e-mails, using a messenger app, browsing the internet, or even if the phone is just sitting there untouched. On several occasions it will just appear to shut off or get stuck on the Samsung logo screen and the only way to rectify this is to pull the battery out. What’s worse is, the phone gets really hot during these reboots, and upon restart, the battery drains by 5-10%. In fact, the phone can get so hot that it is actually uncomfortable to place it in my pocket. And that’s just because of the reboots, and not general usage. Simply put, the phone is no longer fit for purpose.
The fault first appeared on 29th*July 2015. The phone just randomly restarted whilst I was using a messaging app. Then, during one of the several random reboots that occurred hereafter until Tuesday 4th August (the day I went to get my phone repaired), I got the message, “Downloading. Do not turn off target!!!”
The phone was stuck on this screen for 5 minutes, so I had to take the battery out to get it working again.
On another occasion I got a more sinister message, “Kernel panic upload mode” which really concerned me so I rang the nearest authorised Samsung repair centre – Fleet Mobile in New Eltham. However, after having a word with them, they said they don’t fix the Samsung Galaxy Note 4.
So my next port of call was the CRC Samsung Repair Centre in Surrey Quays. I spoke to them on the phone on Friday 31st*July, and explained my problem of constant rebooting and the inexplicable messages in as explained above, so they suggested I pay them a visit.
On Tues 4th*Aug 2015, I visited the CRC Samsung repair centre, and I told the assistant about the issue and the messages I received as per above. The assistant said he had never come across such a message before, so he went to ask the technician. He came back and said the technician too had never come across this message on an Android device, and that it was “only specific to iOS products”. So I asked if I could speak to the technician myself and tell him that I had seen this message on rebooting, but I was told by the assistant that the technician was too busy to have a word with me. He also said that the technician had been dealing in Android software for many years and had never seen this message appear. I wanted to tell the technician that this was not just specific to Apple products because I had witnessed it with my very own eyes.
So the assistant flashed the phone at the store and told me that it was taking a long time to boot. I was told they would have to keep it for 2 days. I asked what likely work would be carried out and his answer was, “that is something the technician would have to decide.”**So I asked him what his thoughts were, and he said it’s more than likely that it’s a hardware issue and that the motherboard (PBA) would be replaced free of charge.
Whilst at the repair centre on the day of collection (6th*Aug), I noticed that my Android version was 4.4.4, but my phone had 5.0.1 installed when I gave it in. At this point, the warranty was still intact. I gave the phone back to the assistant to update my phone to 5.0.1, and questioned him as to why this had happened. His reply was that even though the IMEI number of the phone had been transferred to the new motherboard, they forgot to update the software. I was obviously very suspect at this moment, because it showed poor workmanship and neglect.
On returning home that evening, the same reboot procedure happened again a couple of times, and my heart just sank because I truly thought that my phone would be fixed. During one of the reboots, I got the message, “"Kernel is not seandroid enforcing. Set warranty bit: kernel". I was hugely alarmed by this message and rang the service centre on Friday 7thAug, informing them of this. They suggested I bring the phone back in for repair.
The phone continued to get hot, freeze and continuously reboot multiple times last night. I ordered another battery from Amazon (total cost, £12.00) to see if it would help the situation. The following morning the phone was off even though it still had 50% battery the last night. I tried turning it on but it just wouldn’t switch on. I plugged the charger in and still it wouldn’t switch on. The new battery arrived today so I inserted that. To my amazement, the phone did not start up. I am now left with a completely unusable phone.*
Now Samsung are saying that due to these error messages, the Knox warranty has been tripped, so the warranty is void. They're suggesting that the phone has been rooted by myself by installing some unauthorised software. I've argued with them saying i have never even thought of rooting my phone because i wouldn't want to void the remaining 14 months warranty that is left on the phone. They have said i may have unintentionally installed some app that has caused the phone to be rooted. I only download apps from the Google play store. I even rang Google I up amd they verified that i had not installed any illegitimate apps.
My question is, can an app root a phone?? If so, how?
Does anyone know what caused the random reboots and the error messages described above. To me it sounds like a fatal hardware issue but Samsung are pretty sure it's software related. The problem i face now is that Samsung refuse to fix the phone for free because the warranty has been void, which i don't buy.
I'm wondering if they installed an old motherboard which may have been rooted, but they are adamant that they only replace with new motherboards.
Someone please help me out here. I am not willing to pay a single penny to get it fixed because I strongly stand by the fact that I have not rooted the phone and hence voided the warranty. Samsung Knox is a flawed security software.

I need some advice please.
When I received my SGS2, it had a couple of problems. A few of the games I played made the screen freeze and the 3g keeps dropping out even though my Nexus One with the same sim holds a strong signal. I contacted the suppliers and they were able to offer me an exchange, so they are going to send me a new phone and take the defective one back (courier will do the swap-over). Thinking that I was getting a new phone, I thought I would root the one I have as a practice. I have also downloaded the rom that gets rid of the triangle.
My questions are:-
Where can I find the binary counter, I have gone into download mode and cannot see where it tells me how many roms I have downloaded.
Secondly I have ordered a USB jig from DH2311 but I know he has been snowed under with orders and I dont think I will get it in time, as the phone exchange is happening on Tuesday.
When I first reported the fault the phone company said that due to zero stock, I would have to wait for upto 5 weeks for a new one, instead it is now coming after just over a week.
So will the phone company check to see if I have rooted even though I will already have the new replacement and will they try and charge me for the second phone through my phone account as it was rooted.
Thanks for any advice.

Thats up to them and yes rooting invalidates warranty .
You can search for the Samsung Rooting post to service centres to confirm .
download mode then its says button up .

Hello all. I seem to have run into an issue with the Thunderbolt. For whatever reason, the phone died sometime during the night. I tried plugging it into the charger and waiting a couple of hours and tried to turn it on. Didn't work. Pulled battery, put it back in, the red light came on, but when I tried to turn it on, didn't work. I am rooted, so I don't think I can bring the phone back to Verizon. Anyone got any ideas?
Have you tried going into the bootloader (power + vol down key)?
Do you have an extra battery you can maybe try out?
After leaving the phone plugged in for approximately 10 hours, the light came on on the top of the phone, and I was able to start the phone. Funny thing, the battery life was at a minimum percentage.
Update: It seems that the phone once again died. I am going to try to unroot and just bring the phone into a Verizon store. Does anyone know what would happen?

They'll pass it along to the geeks in the back room who'll determine it's fate.... and yours. If it's a bum battery and your rooted, they'll replace it and promptly flog you 3 lashes against the customer payment kiosk. However, if it's the device that's at fault and found to be rooted, the device will not be replaced and you'll be branded with a large "R" in the middle of your forehead so all other carriers will know not to sell you an Android device. In the event no cause can be determined, you'll be strapped into "the chair" and have a polygraph administered by the most qualified Verizon rep on scene. (That's REALLY what those tables they all carry around are for!) Based upon those results you may be issued a new device accompanied with a suspicious sneer, or you may be issued as new device and a stern warning that if "you ever show your face in these parts again, we'll revoke your unlimited data and insurance..."

Haha, that would really be funny.
But in all seriousness, I do hope that I don't have to go return the phone. That would be a pain in my ass. I'm trying to figure out if I'm currently rooted or not, so that when I go back sometime this week, I won't have any issues. Do you happen to know how to check that?
Get rootchecker from the market, it will tell you if you are rooted.
I had upgraded my old contract with 3 mobile (carrier) and got myself the Samsung Galaxy S3. It had just been about 4 months since I got the phone and I was happy with it. It was working perfectly with no issues or problems. On the 2nd of Feb 2013, I woke up in the morning to find that my phone had only 1% battery remaining. After making myself a cup of coffee, I got back to charge the phone but I found it had turned off due to low battery. I immediately plugged it in and after a few minutes I tried switching it on, but for some reason the phone wouldn't turn on. It would just go till the black and white screen showing the Samsung logo and then that was it. Thinking that it might have been drained of battery I decided to charge it till it showed 100% battery. After it got fully charged, I tried turning it on again, but the result was still the same. It wouldn’t move from the black and white screen showing the logo. At this point I realized that the problem was not something i could handle; I took it to the 3 mobile stores where I had originally purchased the phone from. The lady, whom I spoke to at the shop, did inspect my phone and tried to do a factory reset, but all that was of no use. After about 20 minutes I was told that I could drop it in for repairs by either posting it myself after getting into touch with the customer care team or I was told I could bring it back to the shop on Tuesday when they usually do pickups for repairs and send it from the shop. I chose to take it to the shop on Tuesday and have them send my phone to the repair centre. I was given the battery and back case for me to keep it with me and filled up a form for repairs and got told that they would get back to me in a weeks’ time.
Now here is where the problem starts...
Roughly after a week I got a letter sent to me by 3 mobile customer services. The content in the letter was...
"We are sorry to say there is evidence of unauthorized repair activity on your Samsung Galaxy S3. This suggests that the phone has been handled by a non- approved third party prior to receipt by our repair centre. As this invalidates your manufacturer's warranty we are unfortunately unable to progress with the repair."
I immediately phoned up customer services to let them know that I was not happy with these falls claims of a 3rd party trying to fix my phone. And they insisted that they cannot go against the decision of their engineer. And that they would not send such a letter through without thoroughly examining the phone. They person whom I was speaking to said that he had forwarded this to the complaints department and they will contact me within 48hrs.
The first thing I did when my phoned died was take it to the 3 store, knowing that I had 2 years warranty. I don’t see why I would want to pay a third person to fix my phone, when I can get it fixed for free by the 3 mobile.
The next day I got a call from this guy from 3 mobile who said he was a supervisor in the complaint handling department. I got told that their repair team believe that when they got my phone it was not in economic condition. And therefore they would not be able to carry on with repair. I kept on insisting that my phone has never been looked at by any unauthorized person. And I asked them to show me what proof they have to say that it was tampered with, to which they replied it could be anything, but they will not go against the decision of the engineer. I was told that they would return my phone to me so that I could give it somewhere else for repair and that they wouldn't replace my phone under any circumstances. I have told them to send me their statements in writing. As soon as I finished the call I went straight to the 3 store that I got my phone from. I spoke to the same guy, whom I had spoken to while handing my phone in for repairs and he said to me there is not much they can do at the store and the best thing I could do was to phone up customer care again and ask what proof they had to suggest that my phone got handled by a 3rd party.
I will be heading to citizens advice, hoping that they could help me in this matter. The fault that I had with my S3 seemed to be a common one , as I had read quite a few blogs and articles on it in the internet.
I just found out about this forum through a friend today. I hope there is someone here who can help me or give me suggestions on what to do.
Thnx
Search for "sds" you will find loads of info, precedence already set by Samsung, and nail those people with the CAB, they are your best bet, oh and ask the phone shop for an address to which you can send documentation as you wish to start legal proceedings...in short....You are in the right, you have faulty goods, they haven't provided you with any evidence to back up their claim you tampered with it....and point out that without dated photographic evidence they haven't got a leg to stand on.......basically harass the crap out of them and don't be afraid to go into that store and make enough noise to give them bad publicity, also tell them you are contacting local press!
They sold you the phone, they should replace it under the consumer act.simple.
Warranty from the store is not 2 years its standard twelve months .
Your claim is against the store not Samsung .
Separate limited Samsung warranty is two years .
The standard reply to this topic is that you need an engineers report yourself to disprove the sellers report .
If it is SDS then phone is repaired usually first case i have heard of rejected for the reasons you post .
TS may give you more advice but the basic is your word against the engineers diagnostics .
Do not as many have done with phone contracts and repairs stop paying the contract as al that happens is you still owe and get your credit record messed up .The phone is not part of the contract but an inducement to take out the contract .

When i Phoned up 3 tech support to have my phone sent back to me.. the person whom I spoke to was able to give me a bit more details about what had actually happened. They claim that my phones software had been rooted and as a result their engineers( who were also trained by Samsung) could not access my phone . They said that it might have happened due to something malicious being installed on the phone or it might have happened when the phone had been plugged into the computer and a third party app being installed.
I don't really know much about phone software and routing. As far as I am aware, I haven't installed any malicious content on my phone , neither have I installed any 3rd party apps. All the additional apps on my phone had been downloaded from play store.
The guy from 3 tech support, told me that if 3 were to fix the issue, it would go over £200 and that my options were to either a) claim insurance ( which i don't have). b) have it send to Samsung, to check if they might have an different approach to the issue.
I ended up sending my phone to Samsung twice and here is what happened......
Over the past 1 month, I send my phone for repairs to Samsung twice and both times it got send back to me without being repaired.
The first time I send it for repairs; I got it back in 2 days. I was surprised that Samsung didn't fix my phone. They send be a letter along with my phone saying “That my phone had been tested with an RF test, which resulted in a pass, indicating that RF section of phone was not at fault. However, testing my handset with a live operator network failed as the network did not allow my handset to connect. They tried telling me that my phone had been blacklisted and network blocked by the provider. I was told to contact my provider for further details regarding this matter. It took 3 mobile a week to confirm that my phone had not been blocked or blacklisted at all.
I then contacted Samsung for a second time and told them that my network provider had confirmed with me that my phone was not blacklisted. My phone got send back to Samsung for the second time. I phoned them up on receiving a conformation text about my phone being delivered to Samsung. I did specifically tell them to keep me posted and to let me know before they send it back to me. Two days later I got a text saying that my phone will be delivered to me by 5pm that day. I quickly phoned up Samsung, hoping to hear that they had finally managed to fix my phone. But instead, I got transferred to the repair centre, who informed me that the phone had been sent back to me, but unfortunately could not be repaired as there was interference in the software. They told me that my phone was beyond economical repair and that I had to contact Samsung directly in order to get it fixed. I phoned up Samsung and made the aware that I was clearly unhappy with what was going on. Apparently the repair center that the phone was sent to does not deal with software related problems. So now they will send it to a different repair center (one that deals with software issues). But they also told me that it might have happened if the phone had been rooted and I clearly told them that I had done nothing to the phone. They went on to say that if the phone had been rooted, then there was nothing they could do, but if it hasn't been rooted, then it will be replaced. Personally I don't know how to root my phone. I have openly said that I'm not the best when it comes to such things as I have very little knowledge regarding such things. So even if Samsung were to tell me that they have found my phone to be rooted( which it clearly hasn't), I wouldn't know what to say to that.
I am waiting on Samsung to collect my phone from me now for the third time... Tbh I have lost all hope...
Would be nice to hear about what you guys think I should do nw. Thnx
Root is not a virus or trojan if its rooted its been flashed .
Root does not prevent access but it does void warranty .
interference in the software. >> really does not make sense as a service centre with software problems on a unit would just factory reset the phone ..
This saga smell like a second user phone that has been rooted and possible firmware changed . You have ended up with it from the store .
Presume you have no details of the firmware that was on the phone at point of sale .Nor your IMEI .

I feel a bit embarrassed to admit that I don't really know that much about phone's software and firmware or any other stuff related to them.. But I think I may have the IMEI no. wid me. Are you suggesting that I may have been sold a second hand phone ?
If only i knew what exactly i needed to tell Samsung :crying:

Yes but i have also seen the Samsung letter that clearly states it voids warranty .
Plus i have yet to see one successful user report that Samsung accepted that root does not void warranty .
But the op has the choice of telling Samsung they are in the wrong even though presumably they have rejected as root is against their rules for the limited warranty .

---------- Post added at 01:43 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:04 PM ----------
OP i think your best to find out why warranty is not valid.
If its root or custom rom the reason then use b-eok post / adam outler to argue that root does not invalidate your warranty.
If the phone is rooted and you have not rooted then contact the vendor as to why was it a returned phone or similar .

The way things stand right now, Samsung have arranged my phone to be collected on Tuesday ( 23/03.2013) . But i am still confused as to what I should tell them in terms of what I think is the fault. I'd imagine that they would know the causes of SDS by default. I guess this is what happens to people who clearly don't know much about phones. :crying: The only update that I had done on my S3 was ICS to Jellybean.

notification came up saying jb update avaiable, so i went nd updated it.
My phones gonna be send to Samsung today. Can anyone suggest any points that i could mention to them in order for them to understand that, it was the phone being faulty and not me doing anything to it. Is true that SDS makes the phone appear to be rooted ( with Custom status being ) ?
If that is so, then how do I explain it to them?

Cheers pal, will do.
There is a huge difference between warranty and limited warranty.
Basically the warrany is what your seller (not Samsung!!!) is required by law to provide and usually includes a phase (6months or so) where the seller has to prove you damaged the phone. claiming "rooting" as damaging the phone is btw not sufficient.
Limited warranty is optional and can have any restrictions the provider wants, including requiring you to sing karaoke on handstand every day and post it on Youtube. Limited warrany can be provided by anyone, but usually the manufacturer.
In short: ONLY deal with your carrier. Samsung has nothing to do with you and can charge / refuse repair unless they decide otherwise to provide customer service.

In the EU, if you can prove the fault is a manufacturing defect rather than user damage, Samsung would be breaking the law to refuse the warranty within a 2 year period of the device being purchased. It's the proof that is the hard part.
I would too always suggest going to the carrier first, but not for this reason. Simply so they have a log of your faults. However OP went to the carrier first and refused him under nonsense grounds. I do think that Offcom could make 3 UK evidence the nonesense they speak...
Got in touch with Samsung again. They said that the reason that the engineers haven't been able to fix it is because there is a software interference caused by installation of an unauthorized software. If this is the case, they said that the wouldn't touch the phone. But send it back just the way it was. I asked them to provide proof and I was told that the engineers would arrange photo's to be sent along with a letter, when they return the phone (clearly didnt make any sense to me). I got told that I could cross check with an individual repair center, to confirm about this so called unauthorized software.
Any suggestions on what I should do now? At this point of time i have clearly lost all hope that my phone will ever get fixed :crying:

That is the standard reason they give when voiding warranty due to root custom roms etc .
Samsung's warranty is not the same as a vendors liability / warranty and says Limited on the packet .
Go back a few posts and you are told that root does not void warranty so i would take that path of pointing out to Samsung that root is not a valid reason to refuse warranty ( though i think as its an extra limited warranty it is ).
Or likewise from the vendor make a claim via the courts if they refuse it under EU law .
Initially it is the vendors responsibility .
Take advice from what was Trading Standards via your local council as well .

My HOX+ (international model) worked fine for months, but yesterday it suddenly lost signal and now it's stuck in the airplane mode. When that happened, I didn't reboot, upgrade or otherwise tampered with the phone. The phone was rooted and had Elegancia ROM 4.5.0 installed long time ago.
This problem is mentioned in few other threads, but in my case the phone randomly comes out of the airplane mode by itself for few minutes and then goes back. During these short periods everything works - i.e. I can make calls and get 3G data and see IMEI. That happens once every few hours. Perhaps this was the case for other people as well, but nobody mentioned that so far. Wi-Fi does work all the time, though - so only cellular network is broken.
I wiped cache, simulated battery pull, and installed Elegancia ROM 5.2.0 and re-flashed boot.img from it. Nothing helps. It looks like hardware problem, but before I try repair options, perhaps anyone here has other ideas.
Speaking of hardware repairs, does anyone have experience with repairing rooted HTC phones ? I understand that unlocking bootloader voids warranty, but they will still repair it for a fee - right ?

Can you remember when those situations are happening if the cellular network signal is weak in this area? Is this problem occurring everywhere or specifically in a zone area e.g. only work, only at home, etc.?
Are you using the Power Saver mode?
Maybe your SIM card is just a bit loose in it's support, try to install a "scotch" tape cut-to-size on its back, it only takes 5 minutes to try and its free!

Not at all! Your warranty with your provider can be void, but not with HTC.
Many reports of the same issue with the Nexus Galaxy HERE
Yes, I am absolutely positive now it's a hardware problem. The same SIM card works perfectly in another phone, and other SIM cards don't work in this HOX+ with the same symptoms. The phone doesn't even notice absence of SIM card when there's none - it says "No Service", and doesn't say "No SIM Card", which it normally did before.

That is not what HTC told me. Their phone representative said that unlocking bootloader voids the warranty, regardless of how your purchased the phone.
I was ready to go ahead with paid repair, but after checking IMEI number, they told me this is a global (C2) model, originating in UK, and not only their warranty doesn't apply here, HTC USA won't even repair it for a fee because they don't have necessary parts. This was factory-unlocked international HTC One X+ (model S728E), purchased on US eBay, and yes - it is UK model, so I'm stuck now. I'll update when I talk to HTC in UK.
Update
As promised, I am posting an update to this story.
I called HTC UK and they said if the problem is not caused by firmware modification, it will be covered by warranty.
I filled RMA request on HTC UK support site, but then they changed their mind and told me that repair will cost because of the unlocked bootloader.
I didn't have any other options at that point, so I installed stock ROM, unrooted and re-locked bootloader and sent the phone to UK service center. I used the cheapest USPS shipping (about $20) and it took about 2 weeks for the phone to get there from NY, but once it got there, I received back repaired working phone here in the US in a couple of days. I was not charged any money for this, after all.
The serial number of the phone remained the same, but IMEI changed, which confirms that the problem was in hardware indeed.
By the time I got the phone back from UK, my eBay seller obtained RMA from US HTC (which they denied me directly).
This whole experience demonstrated that:
US HTC support is useless. Everything several of their representatives told me turned out to be outright BS.
UK HTC support is excellent.
HTC doesn't seem to have consistent policy regarding unlocked bootloaders. Formally unlocking voids warranty (at least on non-developer units), but in reality it probably doesn't, if the the hardware is faulty
My experience
HI,
I have an HOX which had the standard HTC firmware from new. The battery needed replacing so contacted my network provider who agreed to “replace” the battery for me.
Received the phone back, not my phone but a refurbished phone which now had branded firmware, not overly happy about that! But I did have “my” phone back.
After reinstalling all the apps I use regularly and using the phone for three days, I noticed that I could not get any network coverage for approx. 24 hours. I called at the network provider shop where the assistant said that it was unusual and appeared to be stuck in airplane mode, which I hadn’t noticed. After using factory reset and a new sim the problem was still evident.
Two options; return it to the network provider for repair or try one of the larger shops which have a technician on site.
Whilst deciding what to do (over lunch) my phone started working correctly all the network information appeared in the “about” menu, great, sorted. I assumed the new sim need to “register” its self :/ However, several hours later the phone again showed no network signal!!!!
I just left the phone to one side and decided that I should send it back for repair, again.
Having left the phone untouched, it again started working, the only thing that I noted was that each time it started working it had turned off power saver mode. I have left power saver off and for the last 24 hours the problem has not reoccurred. Early days, but fingers crossed
In summary I guess it is a firmware problem based on my experience.
I hope this helps anyone who experiencing the same problems.
Has anyone else experienced issues with wifi turning itself off? It seems to do so at random times throughout the day, sometimes even 30 seconds after turning it on, while my daughter it's watching YouTube, or while I'm surfing the internet.
I have been using automagic to turn it back on, but it's annoying when I'm on the internet and a page fails to load since the wifi suddenly disconnected itself.
I have disabled all the T-Mobile settings under diagnostics, and enable wifi while the screen is off, but it didn't fix the issue. I have factory reset the device, and even on setup it disabled itself 3 times while trying to setup. I don't use data, so I stick with wifi for receiving emails, which is why I want it always on.
Anyone else? If it's normal for this phone, I'll just suck it up and deal with it, otherwise I'll send it off to LG, but wanted to check with folks here, first.
I ended up contacting LG and shipped the phone to them this afternoon.
me too
Mine does this too and is also a T Mobile variant. Was hoping someone here would have a solution. I bought mine used, so no point in trying to send it back to LG though. Did you by chance download the MM update? Wondering if there's something T mobileish that doesn't play well, but I doubt it.
Just a thought..make sure there aren't any of the options turned on under "Smart Settings" in the settings menu. Some of the options turn off/on Wifi when you are in a specific location.

I did take the MM update. Unfortunately I've sent the phone in to LG two times for this issue, and they still haven't fixed it. Just got the phone back today, and sure enough, the wifi turns off after a few minutes. It even turns itself off a few times when going through the activation process. I'm pretty sure this is the last time I will by an LG phone.
I just called LG to request another shipping label. He asked the obligatory, "have you pulled the battery and put it back in, factory reset the device, or anything else that has nothing to do with your issue?". I just don't understand why they have no quality control. The first time they replaced the camera and said it fixed the wifi issues. The second time they did replace the bluetooth and wifi module, but again, they didn't even check to see if it was resolved.
I asked the LG rep how to get the issue resolved, and he said I'll have to ship it back to them. What good it will do to ship it out a third time, I don't know. This is getting really irritating.

Thanks for the idea, but nothing turned on there.
Turns out that if I take my sim card out (Lycamobile, a MVNO running on T-Mobile's network), I don't have trouble with the wifi turning off, at least not yet after 6 hours. I'll try putting my sim card back in and see if the issue comes back, then try an unactivated T-Mobile sim card.
I'm guessing LG could never repro the issue.
Didn't matter which sim card I used, the wifi would turn itself off. Since it didn't seem to happen when no sim card was present, it makes me wonder if it was software related. I couldn't find anything, and nuked all the permissions to the T-Mobile apps, but it was still broken.
Off to LG for the third time. The normal LG customer service says they only do ground shipping for repairs, but the supervisor was able to get me an overnight label when I asked for faster shipping, so that helps. I also asked for a new (or refurbished) phone, but he said that was up to the repair technician.
Just got the phone back today. LG can't fix the device, yet they refuse to replace it. I've sent it in 3 times, and the issue is still not resolved. Turn on wifi, find and start to download an app, and it says no connection. Look, and the wifi is back off. Or YouTube. Or browsing the internet. Or doing nothing at all. Just turns itself off.
I get the phone back for a day, and immediately send it back in. Supervisors are useless - the only thing they can do is get you overnight shipping instead of ground. But the repair facility won't acknowledge it for two days after it arrives when it's overnight shipping.
Sick and tired of LG. LG says there is nothing they can do if the repair facility deems that it's fixable. They won't send a new or refurbished phone. The only course of action I have, per two supervisors, is to send it back in, and there is no other way. And the repair facility doesn't test to make sure their fix actually addresses the problem. No quality checks whatsoever. What a worthless company.
Sent back a fourth time, and just received it back after waiting another two weeks. Each technician just replaces the wifi/Bluetooth module but doesn't bother checking to see if the issue is fixed, which it's not. What's worse, is this time it looks like the phone has been dropped. I sent an almost brand-new phone to them (no scratches or blemishes), and now the metal bezel on one of the sides is all scratched up.
Waiting for a call back from yet another supervisor. My BBB complaint just has a response saying, we see that it was shipped back to you. They didn't even read the claim. Typical LG. I guess it's from corporate all the way down the chain. But if your superiors don't care, why would the underlings?
No more LG phones for me after this. These games are ridiculous, and it keeps getting worse (now my phone is all scratched up).
Received the phone back after the 5th "repair". Same issue with the WiFi, and the scratches on the bezel weren't addressed. BBB case was closed automatically after a week, despite them saying I had 10 days to respond.
I had thought about rooting and uninstalling the T-Mobile bloat before sending it to them for the third time, but figured I'd give LG another chance. I should have just done it, as removing all T-Mobile apps fixed the issue. Merely nuking the permissions from the apps had not previously done the trick.
Now I just have a scratched up phone, which I think I'll just live with rather than risk LG messing up something else, not to mention that rooting voids the warranty.
