I also have this "Miscellaneous" thing consuming most of the battery, no idea of what it might be:
Shows as a 200Mah battery? Maybe its counting it wrong? Try draining to 0% and see how long you get.

I tested with 2 other apps and they also measured it at 2000 mAh but it might be just because they get the info from the ROM... I don't know, I'm actually starting to worry about my phone, if it might be a defective unit...
I had same "picture" on first or second version (I don't remember now). But from third version this issue is absent. I think you must do:
1. Go in twrp
2. Choose option "Mount" and select: System, Data, Cache, Firmware and Persist.
3. Wape Dalvik, System, Cache, Data (it's for clean flashing of v.4).
4. Choose option "Install" and select v.4 and gapps (zip files).
5. Go to flash.

Wrong readings about this 2000mah... I dont have problems with battery on v4, browsing with wifi 1:30 sot, 85% remaining, 4.181v

What exactly does "Mount" do?
This isn't just a visual bug, right? My battery is actually lower..
EDIT: Aren't GApps already included in the ROM zip?

1. You should mount partitions: System, Data, Cache, Firmware and Persist.
2. If you on v.3 or v.4 and you have this problem then you should do the clean flash of ROM (v.4) and GAPPS again.

Thank you. I'm booting after doing all the other things you told me. Just out of curiosity, what exacty was the purpose of the "Mount" thing?
Running V4 myself and no battery drain for me.
Get at average ten hour screen time, do you have ambient display turned on by any chance? If so try disabling it.

I did have it turned on, just disabled it. Will see how it pans out from here. I already did the clean install s_wheel told me to do (choose option "Mount" on TWRP and select: System, Data, Cache, Firmware and Persist. Wipe Dalvik, System, Cache, Data and then install V4 zip and gapps zip.) and it went alright, booted fine. Now I do not have the "Miscellaneous" thing anymore. It just seems that the battery is draining too fast. I'm at 80% with 1h of SOT (the phone has been on for 7h 30min, Wi-fi off, GPS off, LTE on), which would make 5h SOT total, which is half of what you and other guy told me you have. I did have ambient display turned on, let's see how it goes from now on. Anything else I can do to try and make it better? Thank you so far.
try turning Google now hotword off, and maybe google now altogether.. settings in search app
also wifi scanning in Wi-Fi settings
and have brightness on auto @60-65%, that's probably an average screen setting but will obviously vary depending on environment
edit, 1 more thing, check the phone is going into sleep mode when screen is off

Couldn't find Google Now Hotword.
I had Scanning Wi-Fi on. Should I disable "Keep WLAN on during sleep" too?
How do I check if the phone is going into sleep mode when the screen is off?
Thank you!
google now hotword settings are in the google app, open it say something then after its searched hold the recents to get options up, settings voice i think from there, you can sign out of google now cards from there too
to check sleep just use any cpu analyser app from the market..kernel auditor for example
with wifi just disable the always scanning, have the other options how you like it
edit, also another one to watch for is google play and google movies ect, uploading loads of files from any you might have loaded on the phones or sd memory.. check what's syncing the settings account section

Does that Google Now thing spend that much battery? I didn't know that. Yeah, I have that enabled, the "OK Google" voice detection. That's what you're talking about, right?
I downloaded Kernel Auditor and I can confirm the CPU has been going to deep sleep.
I didn't quite get the last one.. I don't have google movies but google play, obviously, yes, but uploading? Uploading what?
with Google play, i'm under the impression that if you load a lot of mp3 files onto your phone and you're signed up for Google play it will upload all your songs to the Google cloud. I'm probably wrong but thought I'd mention it as something to watch out for.
with google now and hotword detection, I've always seen that as a battery hog and is one of the first things i make sure is off when trying a new rom. others see it differently obviously.
edit, doh, yes i meant Google play music

Oh, you mean Google Play Music? I don't use it, don't have it installed. I use Shuffle+.
OK I've disabled the cards and hotword detection, I'll try them on and off a bit and see how it goes. Thanks!
So the miscellaneous thing is back.. And only 2h of screen on time at 50%.. And all this after a clean install.

Hi,
After reading almost all the threads regarding battery issues, the 'android bug' and 'battery drains after root' etc ...
I still have a question I can't answer:
Before I CF-rooted my device i was getting 1d 15h on avg use, I read a lot regarding root-your-device and decided it is what I need and want.
Since I CF-rooted my device (latest cf-root by chainfire) I couldn't reach more then 15 hours use.
I use stock 2.3.3
Baseband: KF3
Kernel: KG1
Build number: KG1
Of course after I rooted my device I installed Titanium backup and removed all the applications my carrier put in my device, and regarding Samsung apps, I only removed 3 widgets that Watchdog showed that they are using the cpu even though they aren't even open.
At the background I have Watchdog running and LBE security service.
1. Please look at the battery stat screen shots and all the data you need in order to tell me what is draining my battery, because I have no idea.
BTW, the screenshots you are about to see were while I was sleeping, and didn't touch the phone! (This didn't happen to me before I cf-root my device)
2. Maps being open (even though I NEVER use it) means it is the android bug ?
3. When going to Settings->Applications->Development->
I have 2 options there, one is USB debugging, any chance after I ticked it for the rooting options, it is draining the battery ?
4. In the same setting area, Allow mock locations, I understand this option is to disable any applications that will run while phone is asleep ? is that correct ? and if I'll untick it, would I get better battery stats ?
5. I read a lot of threads saying which applications you should uninstall to achieve better battery performance, but what I really want to know is, which applications I must uninstall in order to save battery life.
6. Is there a chance that if I'll remove Watchdog,Titanium backup, cpustats etc etc... basically all the apps that gives you information regarding the phone hardware OR monitoring your software (LBE) I'll get better results ?
EDIT:
Answers:
1. Everything is "fine" regarding the screen captures I took. (Check answer 2)
2+3. I never use maps or latitude, but it seems (regarding question 1) Maps is being used by my phone even though I never used them, just open latitude and sign out, go to maps and clear cach via more, and signed out, now go to Settings->Location and security-> and untick Use wirless network.
4. Mock location is something a normal user doesn't need (unless you are a developer), just go to settings->Application->development-> and untick Allow mock locations.
5. Go to this website: https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...SENVeXlqUm5vV0E&single=true&gid=0&output=html
it tells you on every app what it is and if you can or can't OR must/mustn't remove it, GREAT LINK!
Still searching for question number 6...
Thx for all the ppl who helped me !

Are you using Google Latitude?
Root has nothing directly to do with battery Rooting does not cause battery drain.
network Location /Maps

No it means you have them connected .

No
Overnight test . Turn WiFi Mobile Data GPS and Bluetooth off .
Kill all apps running . Charge battery to 100% and reset battery stats .
After ten hours or so se what the battery drain is and what has been draining it .
Target twelve hours sleep .with a 2% battery drain .

jje, I never open maps or latitude and I just checked settings to confirm they are signed out, but maps is always working, no idea why.BTW I even tried once to freeze maps via Titanium back and it was still working...
I'll try to kill all apps and do the experience.
Please try to answer all my questions, really important to me.

P.S: What about BetterBatteryStats, isn't it showing you any apps draining the battery ?

I do not have battery drain .
Battery drains when apps are using power some use more power than others .
Current drain is today 7% in 22hours . Might be less or more tomorrow depends upon how the phone is used .

I'd be glad if someone could answer all my questions!
Thank you.
Can anyone please answer to questions 1,5 and 6 ?
I can't seem to resolve them anywhere! including endless searches at google and here.
I have absolute no clue!
Thank you in advance.
You have an app or widget which updates itself with information where you are (see maps in betterbatterystats), like for example a weather widget. Now delete that widget or app for a while and/or go to location settings and turn off the first option (use mobile network).
See if it improves your battery.

I can't believe I didn't notice this option, thx!
Any chance of resolving questions 5 and 6 ?
Question 5: I haven't check all apps (I geuss you are talking about stock apps) individually to see if they drain battery.. I just freeze/uninstall the apps I don't need. Check this list and freeze all apps you don't use: https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...SENVeXlqUm5vV0E&single=true&gid=0&output=html
Then check your running services, look for apps that are running but you never use it. Freeze/uninstall those apps.
Question 6: I don't know, but if those apps don't appear on Betterbattrystats, thenI assume they don't use that much battery.

I did some research and my Google Backup is turned off. Still, Android OS is eating away at my bandwidth. 23 MB in 7 days is a lot of data. And I dont have a data package plan on my network so that 23 MB is actually costing me a lot of money.
How do I prevent Android OS from using up so much mobile data?
I am on CM 11 Temasek V48. With Googy Maxx kernel.

Its not possible to do that to Android OS.
The options isnt there.
Dun go inside. Just go to the general page of data usage and press menu. There shld be a restrict background usage or sth. And there's one thing I dun get. Why r u using 3G when u said u dun have it free?

Doing that restricts background data to all the apps. So, itd probably prevent me from getting my emails and messages. And these messages are the reason I'm using 3G even though I dont get it for free. (I leave it on 2G most of the time, until I decide to browse the web, then I switch it to 3G.)

1- Have you tried AFWall+ from the Play Store? It's a free firewall app that can restrict internet usage (wifi and/or cellular) by apps. You can select "All apps" under the WiFi column and enable the firewall. This will prevent any app from using your cellular (3g or gprs) data. Only your selected apps can access 3G/GPRS. You need root for this though.
or
2- You can simply turn off the Data from "Mobile Network" section. This way your phone will only use data if you have a wifi connection.

I faced the same problem, issue was somewhat with auto backup of data, sync of app data & people details in google account,
BUT the main culprit in my case was uTorrent application.
Even though there was no torrent added to it, i didn't even opened it,
it was using 1GB data daily on WiFi and in data usage it was coming under Android OS usage. I uninstalled it, everything went back to normal.
So try to look for such apps which eat up your data in background, it may not be an error of android OS as such.
Hope this helps, Press THANKS if it did help you
Enjoy

Ive firewalled any app that I dont want using mobile network. (Like games and stuff).
My problem actually resolved on its own. Maybe it was something from the Google side of things. .I don't see that high android OS data usage anymore.
Thanks for the tip anyway.
So I noticed my data arrows were constantly on last night at about 9pm or so. This was right after I got my 50%warning for the data useage. So I investigate and find nothing running that's isn't usually. Bout 15min later I get the 75% warning so I'm like wtf ? Continue to shut everything down in app manager that I can without shutting down the phone. Now its 45min into it I've restarted the phone 3 times to no avail and I get my 90% warning I call Verizon they say switch to WiFi and turn mobile data off. Which is fine but wasn't gonna work the next day when I left my house n had no WiFi no more. Si looked to see what apps I just installed was eBay mobile I force stoped it still no luck figure that's not it . Then I deleted it anyway figured I can just install it again if I gotta and low and behold it stops. I have no idea how it could pull that off but if anyone is having probably with there new update I'd delete it pronto.
Settings->Mobile data should give you an app by app break down of data usage, you can tell from there what is going on. If there is a large difference between what your phone reports and what Verizon reports, then I suspect their accounting system is messing up; not sure how you get them to cop to it though.
Wow thanx bobcat I didn't know our phones had that capability. That's very useful I think me and many others just learned a new trick. And now looking at that I see eBay was not the culprit but intristingly when I deleted it the data usage stopped.
The settings/ mobile data shows Facebook was the bad app using 4.85gb from just Sept 6-7th. And I called Verizon while this was going on the lady I talked to was really good about it and gave me 10 bucks off my next bill incase I go over the limit and if it goes over 2gb I should call her back shell fix that too. Eh better then nothing.
Ok figured out it was Facebook doing it and killing data. But now while on WiFi with Facebook and eBay still deleted it's going crazy again the arrows for WiFi have been lit solid for most of the time I've had it on ? Is there a way to track apps data usage thru WiFi ?

I believe in the same place you view the mobile data usage if you look in settings it has the option to show wi-fi data usage. On most apps I have background data disabled so no apps are using my data without my knowledge and helps with battery too. If no clear answer there, check better battery stats (if you're rooted) and you can see what apps are active or keeping the phone awake.
I've been experiencing unusual data usage too since I've had this phone compared to the sg3. Going to look into what you guys said but someone on G plus mentioned this today too. Something with the g3 I'm assuming?
Ya holy crap anyone who hasn't yet disable that freakin cloud app it used 3.2gb on the WiFi in that bit that I had it on overnight. The big problem with this is I have nothing on there ,never initiated it and further more wouldn't trust my crap in there hands anyway. But ya I went on a disabling spree with all the apps that I could and put them all to not use data in the background unless on WiFi. Lol wish I could kill that too.
One more question when in these settings after I disabled a bunch of stuff I noticed in the mobile data section there is now a part that says (Removed Apps 3.79gb) ? Is this really being used by apps that aren't in there or is it just a representation of disabled apps ?
What's the cloud app
Just says cloud for the app name but it the cloud storage thing they have so you can store files vids pix n such on Verizon's servers and access it from multiple devices.Same idea as all the Stars just had there pix leaked from lol.

That's just showing what was used by one or several apps that you've since removed. Since that is for tracking your data usage on your billing cycle the "removed apps" may go away once the cycle is reset, just there to show what used X.X amount of data. Haven't really noticed yet if "removed apps" goes away, but I would assume so. :good:
I only have a select few apps that sync and don't use any of that cloud nonsense. Maybe if I still had unlimited data I would use it for a few non-sensitive things but it just kills battery and as you noticed hogs your data.
My phone does this crazy dats thing also. Anyone ever watch 1 youtube video and use over 100 mb?
I have had this phone phone close to when it came out and my battery life has not been all that greati usually get clost to 2 1/2 to sometimes 3 hours SOT :-/. i keep seeing the main drains on the top from screen, android, android system, cell standby, google play services. when i was looking at Google play services i explored more and went into the google now settings accounts and privacy and turned off things i didnt need. also turned of card notifications and now google play services seem to be using less battery. has anyone else done this to save battery consumption? so far i have gotten 2 hours SOT and battery level is at 66% with screen brightness set to auto. I also reset my phone once after reading some battery fixes.
Hi, here my experience.
I really love this phone, but I am really frustrated by battery life. I never get more than 2.5 hours of SoT.
I like a smartphone being "smart" so I usually have everything up (I mean sync, localization, etc. Usually I turn off Bluetooth, nfc and GPS because I don't need them), but with this phone I have to turn off Google history location and uninstall Facebook app and Facebook messenger app. Even with these modifications I have poor battery life and the problem is in "Google play services" and "Google app", they maintain active my phone even in airplane mode!
The screenshot are referring to a situation (I still have 72%) with 10hours on battery, but with ~8 hours of airplane mode. These apps "keep active" the phone for ~4.5hours!
P.s.I am sorry if I don't wait until 0% to get more accurate screenshots, but I don't have too much time during the day and I am really frustrated about the situation

It could be account sync? Have you tried looking under the accounts to see if there is some sync getting stuck?
In my case, I think the main sucker is location. I use to have it turned off (and also Google Now), and only enable when needed. With this, I use to get 4-5 hours SoT. Location/GPS is a huge sucker.
i figured out that in my google now settings /account privacy/google activity controls every was turned on and i just turned them off and it fixed my problem

What exactly you turn of in google activity's. Thank you in advanced
i turned off web & app activity, device information, voice and audio activity, youtube searchhistory, youtube watch history , google location history which are all of them. i do not need google to keep track of everything for me. google cards already does a good job introducing me to articles i can read. i did not play much with these to see which was keeping the phone awake.
the post above helped out a little bit but I tried something new and it seemed to have help out my stand by time and overall usage. when you go to settings battery&power saving then usage click on google play services and at the bottom it shows included packages it shows a list remember those.
go into app settings>all>google play services+google contacts sync+google account manager+google services framework+google backup transport> turned off notifications

How about functionality when turning off 'Notifications' for those services? Do you still have contacts sync working? Have you tried to create a contact in your phone and check on a computer at contacts.google.com if the new one is there after 1 or 2 minutes? And the other way, creating one on the computer gets synched to phone?
Thanks.
when i restored my phone back to stock I did everything normally to have a fully working phone. after that i went down the list in the settings to customize it to my usage. when i got down to apps and turned off notifications i still had contacts saved on my phone it was like nothing different happened other then getting doze like battery saving on my phone running stock lg lolipop

Good find. I too was getting 2.5 or less SOT. I went back to unrooted stock and was able to get 4 hours 20 min with no tweaking at all. Im back to stock root and am able to maintain 3 hours SOT but this gives me inspiration! Thanks for the tip, I'm trying this and see if my mileage increases.
Years ago, the “Device maintenance” section of Samsung TouchWiz settings had an option to clear the cache of all apps in one click, in addition to the option in the "Apps" section to do so for each app individually. Currently, One UI only has the option to do it for each app separately. The "Device care" storage section doesn't have the first (and more convenient) option anymore.
Why?
I clear my S23U cache using recovery option.
On my N10+/Pie I still have the old Device Care with 360° (firewall blocked) but it can't clean individual app caches.
SD Maid Pro does a good cleaning job, I use this along with Device Care and clearing the system cache about once a month. That's mostly all the maintenance I have to do. This load will be 3 yo in June, still running fast and stable.
My S4+/Kitkat Touchwiz had nothing at all for that in the firmware.

Again, individual apps can be cleaned in the "Apps" section in settings. But the "Device maintenance" (in TouchWiz) allowed it to be done in one click. Now, "Device care" in One UI lacks that option.

That's the system partition cache. I'm not talking about that.

I miss this function too. Sometimes a lot of space are in the ass and now like you I need to do it one by one...
It was an Android function, not specific a Samsung function. Therefore Google removed it, not Samsung...

Android Assistant free on Google Play Store does the same job
I use SD Maid for this, and the other tasks it carries out.

... and possibly a lot of other things on the side.
Security-wise that app is no option with all it's required permissions, while reportedly triggering malware reports...
Add to this that many comments in Play store indicate the app is not working as advertised.
Isn't that what Memory Guardian (part of the Good Guardian package on Galaxy Store) is for ?

Memory guardian deals with memory, not storage. It does not clear caches...
I thought the "Optimize" button automatically does this including looking for apps constantly crashing, closing apps running in the background and looking for abnormal battery usage.

Cleans the system logs which is useful but not the app caches.
According to this Samsung support, the only way to do it for all apps is to perform a factory reset. I guess it's also possible on a 3rd party app which is the better route than doing a factory reset.

Lol, their cure for everything with their world class inept tech support
Been using SD Maid pro for 3 years and it works very well. Does this and more, helps to keep the system running fast. Zero damage to files or apps, just be careful if you alter the default settings or delete duplicate files (not recommended).
This load will be 3 yo in June, still running like a bat out of hell.
Samsung improved Good Guardians Galaxy App Booster which runs fast and well now. It sped up SD Maid's cache clearing noticably for me. Didn't cause any harm.
Other than policing apps for misbehavior and resolving any issue that may arise, doing the above and clearing the system cache will keep a load running well for years. No stinking factory reset needed if you do this and DO NOT upgrade/update the firmware.

Because I have virtually zero issues, no malware and loads of playtime because of this. This device continues to fulfill its mission rather then waste my time and that's the only thing that counts.
It really sucks You can do what you want... I use whatever works and comes in handy.

That's the system partition cache. We're not talking about that here. We're discussing app caches.
The two should not be confused.
