(Video) - Nexus 6p vs iPhone SE Speed and RAM Management - Nexus 6P General

Update:
I did a rematch video, but this time the N6P is armed with a custom ROM which is not encrypted. (Still stock based) - Stock+
Take a look if you are interested to see just how much of a difference this un-encryption makes.

I compared our Nexus 6p against my wife's iPhone SE, and I must say the results are not that pleasant. Take a look....
https://youtu.be/_n_otTa-zdo

Low res vs high res, highly optimized OS built for 3 phones vs android (which needs to accommodate any hardware on hundreds of combination's)
Even if I don't mention the A cores in the SE with the optimizations to the OS even a slower CPU would beat the 6P simply due to the afore mentioned points if it was designed as the SE is.
Now just to put a smile back on your face, show her kodi on your phone, then ask her to Bluetooth you a picture

Ya true that
OTOH we've got better hardware and run 6 screens simultaneously.

I get the point that different things run differently. Otherwise, I don't get your point beyond it being an advert for your site. In other words? Clickbait.

I don't have a site.
I like tech, and making tech videos. I have a nexus 6p, which is what this forum is about, and I compared it to an iPhone SE for speed and ram management, and shared it in a forum where many would be interested to see it.
Yeah, total click bait.

You are right, but the SE has almost the same exact components as the 6s, which came out roughly as the same time as the 6p

I wonder if the memory performance in Android devices will improve if the android devices are not simultaneously holding 5 plus desktop pages of widgets on an additional launcher.
Outside of that - the comparision is fair. We all know Android is less memory efficient and likely less battery efficient - but also that it does have more data on your finger tips by home screens and widgets always on

BTW (and my apologies for going off topic), I'm fully supportive of your making a new channel and going for it. I've watched other content you've made (see attached). I'm just not sure about the point you're making in this video beyond some subjective blah with two devices that are already set up in very different ways. Go harder and make something more, well, pointed.
I'm sure you get my point.

Thanks for the feedback. I just wanted to address some of the platform loyalty that goes on in tech, and in my opinion the best way to do that is a speed and ram management comparison.

Unfortunately you are wasting your time here. A lot of people here (or Android fans in general) can have both phones in their own hands and still wouldn't admit that the iPhone is faster.
They will just bring up things that it lacks, which has already happened in this thread in fact. When in reality Android lacks things that ios has too. But again, they won't see that side of it.
Your video was very cut and dry and confirms what I've always known as an Android fan... ios is faster, smoother and more efficient for the most part. And as I said, I'm a huge Android fan and don't own any iPhone's.
With all that being said, I still won't buy an iPhone. I like more things about Android than I do ios. If that ever changes then I will get an iPhone. I don't get into the whole loyalty and fanboy mentality.
Good job on the video.

Thanks!
I am one of the biggest Apple bashers around, but you have to admit that ios has really come a long way in the last 3 years. Remember when you could not even multi-task on it?
Im also sticking with Android even if a cheaper ios device outperforms the current official android flagship.

Interesting... Rather disappointing, but it's honestly what I expected. Thanks for the comparison!

You don't have to read wizeguyz' posts because they're essentially all the same. He's totally guilty of the same bias he accuses others of. You can go browse the 6P forums and look at posts that express something negative about the 6P and chances are extremely high that he liked those posts.
Regarding the video: I'm curious as to how an unencrypted 6P would compare. I'm convinced that encryption slows down this device, I don't care what benchmarks say - I've compared and it's completely noticeable in real world usage.

I'm biased about what? I'm a huge Android supporter and fan. I don't currently own any iPhone and I've only owned one for very short periods of time just to test and experience.
As for the 6P specifically, I simply don't like the build quality and a few other quirks. All my personal opinion. Overall I think it's a good phone and I prefer Android over ios any day of the week.
I think I'm biased just to you and a few others because my opinion doesn't line up with yours about the 6P. It's a very common thing, not just with the 6P. Someone can only post positive comments and like every positive post about the 6P and it will easily go unnoticed. But if someone does the opposite, it's a bias, troll, etc.
This type of stuff happens everyday on other boards of all sorts of things, not just phones. At the end of the day I know it's just a phone and I don't let it bother like it seems to bother some here.

Sorry mate, but what does IOS have that android doesn't. Not as a device but as an operating system..
I think you'll find the latter is more feature rich.
I'm not bashing apple either, take a look in my sig, you'll see I had an iPhone 6 and although I did like it, it simply didn't offer half of what Android does.
Greater choice of applications was pretty much the biggest thing for me but that system is on lock down, I had to get rid.

Think its for the non-removable battery, which is silly, but oh well.
I hate to play the "bias" card, but I think The Verge simply did not want to like the G2. It has its shortcomings, just like any other device (most can be fixed or improved via software updates). But that is why you never put much stock in any single review.

This is pretty much right on. Most known tech blogs have their bias slants...so just choose to read the one that swings the way you want, right? :good:
this device would score better if they were to revisit their reviews in the coming weeks after software updates were pushed to improve the experience, some reviewers do revisit and some dont. If the only impediment to them is the software as with most reviews then I think we can see the real numbers here through context. Minus the software flaws we have a higher score but in a day and age were more manufacturers are paying closer attention to software features its getting harder and harder to make game changing-ground breaking phones. An 8 is certainly a very good score however i score it at an 8.5 with the software flaws. This will be fixed within the next few days when we are Rom'd on all carriers!

Right on. Read the reviewers score on the G2, then look up their same review scores of the GS4, they are clearly all over samsungs sack. Some of the things they say are contradictary to higher rated devices. Its just because ITS LG.

Phone arena gave G2 higher score than S4. And gsm arena was very positive and wishes the G2 gets the attention it deserves.
At this point, all of the mobile tech sites who give the LG G2 a bad review can suck my nuts. Its fine that they will miss out on the LG G2 because they are brainwashed by Apple and Samsung that anything they put out turns into gold. IMO the LG G2 is a gold mine here especially with the battery life and they way LG was able to cram a 5.2 inch display on a 5.0 inch body which I would have imagine would be a high priority for most folks when it comes to smartphones.
Why is everyone so mad at this review? Seems pretty spot on to me. It's not a perfect device, and it definitely shouldn't be getting 10s across the board like everyone seems to think it should.

At least it isn't as bad as a gizmodo "review"...These days If I read a review of anything I'll just stick with anandtech because the other ones are so sensitive and opinionated it starts to piss me off lol.
I'm constantly amazed by what some people get paid to write at tech sites... especially knowing that their audience usually doesn't care about their whining on how it's too big for them, or how much they hate visual elements of the UI. Be a man and write a real objective review.

I'll take your word for it... But I may have seen it. Don't read any gizmodo reviews if you don't like wasting your time.
If I was running these publications, there would be a lot of unemployed " tech writers " on the streets on NYC. Or where ever they exist. They can whine about the cheap texture of the back of their smartphone to their server at the soup kitchen for all I care.
LG G2

So stoked I bought this phone!

I have been sitting on a fence post about whether to buy this phone or the note 3. I finally decided this is the phone I wanted after a rep at the local Verizon store who had recently bought one herself demonstrated hers to me in great detail and even let me take hers out to my car in the parking lot to see if the Bluetooth worked well with my car, which it did, beautifully. Incidentally, she is the first customer rep in a store who wasn't arrogant and knew anything about any of the phones they sell.
I followed the instructions in these forums to root and install TWRP and I've just installed some mods to declutter the status bar, also found in these forums.
I am so pleased with this phone. All I need now is a mod to change the battery icon to 1% circle and a mod to allow transparent status and nav bars w/Nova, that don't interfere with each other.
Otherwise I find the performance amazing, and eveything else I've tried have worked as expected. Im a happy camper, and don't have a single regret. :good:

Hi.
I am currently checking out your Youtube channel and just want to tell you that you have convinced me to get the LG G2 over the Note 3.
I've been trying to decide for a few weeks between the G2, Note3, S4 & Nexus 5 and a lot of the reasons I was leaning to the Note 3 you are showing on the G2.
I'm still waiting until The Nexus 5 is officially announced just in case it's the best phone ever, but if the Nexus 5 is what all the leaks say it is, (a watered down G2) I will definately get the G2
I was in the same boat. G2, Note 3, Nexus 5... I decided I didn't want the nexus because I would have had to change carriers and lose my grandfathered plans and rates. I decided against the Note 3 because it is locked and really too large to hold comfortably. That left thus awesome phone. I am loving it, and this after having used a Galaxy Nexus for 2 years.
Sent from my VS980 4G using Tapatalk
Ms D, I've commented on your awesome videos before and so it's good to see you again! Keep up the good work and do what makes you happy!
The G2 isn't perfection but it's darn good and there just isn't a better phone for me out there. I'm sure I could get used to the other flagship phones and like them as well considering androids customization options, but this one just feels right to me.
Almahix, glad to hear you are liking your phone! I was in the same decision tree as you as well. Turned out from testing that note 3 was too big, so that was easy to eliminate from the choices and nexus 5 was watered down version of G2, and I liked the sleek look and feel of no side buttons. Knock on, which is awesome, sealed the deal.
I find it hard to understand that the reviewers aren't more impressed with this phone. The software is really good, it has the increased battery life that they have asked for for years, it's light, it's almost lag free and it's even usable with one hand while having a large stunning display. What's not to like? I'm still impressed that it's already possible to make a phone like this.
I have had an iPhone, the Galaxy SI, II and III, Note II and three different Windows Phones. This one takes the cake. The cake from a very fancy bakery that is.

99% of reviewers are cowards or are receiving "payola"! i never thought that even tho i read it many times in forums, but after seeing the "lukewarm" reception LG G2 has gotten, i can't help but believe its true. If anything Samsung put out ran HALF this smooth or implemented features the way LG's UI does, the reviewers would be "wetting themselves" over it...lol

i have to say i think this phone is 10 times that of what the Nexus 5 will be. I had the Nexus 4 (white version) at the same time as my LG Optimus Pro and used them both daily, but for me (an admitted NON Vanilla Fan) the ONLY thing i liked better on Nexus 4 was the beautiful sparkley white glass form factor... The Nexus 5's design will not be nearly as premium, and quite frankly, i believe LG's UI is its MAIN virtue. The way it gives u a gabillion options to customize any & every thing on your phone WITHOUT needing to root & install a custom ROM while at the same time not slowing it down one iota is to me what makes this phone above & beyond anything Sammy has ever put out. I was "all in" with Samsung UNTIL they began to "milk the galaxy Line" for all it was worth, and in the process started cutting features and hoping consumers just "wouldn't notice or care" and still charge high dollar for those "watered down devices" Lost all of my respect when the S4 came out and it couldn't open a dialer or an app draw without couging, stuttering, hiccuping and hesitating.... I just happened to pick up the LG Optimus Pro one day during my 14 day period when i was looking for a case for S4, and i was like "THIS is the experience i SHOULD be getting on the S4 but wasn't"... Returned S4, and have been an LG Hardcore fan ever since!
Sorry so wordy, but when i get started on the subject of LG vs Samsung, there is NO shutting me up!

As I posted in another thread.. I think I wasted my money on the T-Mobile Jump program. I don't know if I will want to trade my LG G2 phone in for another in 6 months, or ever .. Not at least until another LG phone comes out
This phone is a Gem and I hope more and more discover it.. I was getting tired of touchwiz, and even though LG has took a lot of liberties from it, it's improved it so much that it doesn't even seem like I'm using Touchwiz.
I agree about touch wiz. It isn't as invasive as I expected, and there are plenty of apps and exposed modules to select from to customize one's ui.

You're not obligated to trade in your phone. You just have too pay it off before you can get a new one.

confused...if ur using the LG G2, ur NOT using Touchwiz...or is that some sarcasm that just flew over my head?! wouldn't be the 1st time...lol
I also got the Jump Program and also wondered if its a waste becuz i DO NOT see myself wanting out of this phone anytime in the distant future, but then again, u do know it doubles as insurance right?
if u crack screen or water damage phone, you just pay $175.00 for replacement, but if normal wear & tear damage (power buttons fall off, screen goes wonky, etc ) they replace it for no deductible, so overall i think its worth it....
And man, am i enjoying the heck out of my UNlimited UNthrottled approx 20GB LTE data usage a month with no overage concerns for a mere $20 bucks a mo : )

Any crazy people like me switching from an iPhone 6S?

I've been switching back/forth between iOS and Android but I've been mostly an iPhone user because of the camera quality but now that there is a Nexus available with a good (great even) camera, I've gone ahead and purchased a 6P.
Is anybody else switching from an iPhone 6S?
Mine 6P is going to arrive tomorrow, and I'm not going to sell my 6S Plus yet, but it will be interesting to compare the two phones and see if Android can lure me back...
I will not be switching, because my work related emails etc will be on iOS, but I will be using the 6P as my personal device along with the iPhone 6 as my official device. So every moment the comparisons will be obvious to me.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I wouldn't consider switching from a 6s crazy.
Sent from a phone that is not a 128GB Frost Nexus 6P
I was back and forth between my iPhone 6 (not S), Galaxy S6 Edge, and now my Nexus 6P. Only had the Nexus a day before I knew what I liked the most. Probably the more personal choice you need to make is Android or iOS. If you've never used Android ever before, you may be shocked how things work differently.
Actually its a very wise move!
Just keep both.

I love how smooth iOS is but the 6s wasn't a HUGE upgrade from the iPhone 6 so I was like meh.

You assume too much. The lack of stringent standards for Android apps is the major Achilles Heel at the moment compared to iOS that does a better job demanding apps devs to meet very specific criteria!
Being a Nexus device doesn't give it supernatural abilities to overcome crappily coded resources hogging apps!

I've been with both iOS and Android for years with both and never heard anything about the number of apps ever slowing down my phones. At one point I had over 300 on one phone and reducing it to nothing changed nothing. What "slows" Android are overlays like Touchwiz. Hence why most of us are here with Nexuses

I don't think he was making an assumption, if you look at your tapatalk sig it says what device you're using...
Also I've never had any slow downs from a device over time except for the original Nexus 7, but that was due to some sort of poor quality flash memory or something, nothing to due with the apps.
My phone history looks like this:
AT&T Galaxy S2 i777
--Back when each carrier got it's own different Galaxy variant...jeez that's crazy to think about now, not only were the designs different, they even included different CPU's! AT&T and International had the Exynos chip, all others had the snapdragon I think.
International & AT&T Galaxy S3
--AT&T was just rolling out LTE and it wasn't in my area yet so I wanted the International variant which had more custom ROM choices & a quad core processor. Once I had LTE in my area I got the AT&T version because...LTE! Turns out the Snapdragon S4 Pro was faster than the Exynos Quad Core that was in the international version. Also this is when I started running Task650's AOKP ROM and fell in love with AOSP. Once I started using AOSP ROM's I could never go back to TouchWiz or any skin.
AT&T Galaxy Note 2
--Got it just for fun, to see what all the hype was about. Had to keep TouchWiz to use the S-Pen and keep it from being just a Galaxy S3 with a big ass screen.
AT&T Galaxy S4
--I got lucky and got it right around release. This was the last Galaxy device that was released on AT&T that had a workaround to get the bootloader unlocked, and that was only for the first few months. The LokiDoki exploit as it was called was patched very quickly by AT&T and/or Samsung. So only Galaxy S4's that came out of the box with one of the earlier builds could work around the bootloader. Also there were a ton more ROM's available because Google also introduced the Google Play Edition so we finally had official Android without TouchWiz on a Samsung device!
LG Nexus 5
--My first non-Samsung Android...Also the last time I ever switch to a Nexus from anything BUT a Nexus. This phone is magical. Almost 2 years old and this thing gets faster with every update! Haha that's actually a lie, Lollipop was not good to my Nexus 5, however I'll call that growing pains as Marshmallow runs smoother than any other device I've ever used including iPhones, iPad's. I think Marshmallow(pure Marshmallow, I can't speak for TouchWiz Marshmallow, or Sense Marshmallow, etc) is finally on iOS's level in terms of polish, smoothness, and aesthetics. Marshmallow and Material Design in my opinion actually look a lot more professional than iOS does. Material Design is also more than just being pretty, it is incredibly easy to use, and most apps are updating their UI to follow suit. Another thing to note with Marshmallow is I have yet to have an app Force Close in the month or so I've been using it, compared to it happening somewhat often in Lollipop. Kit-kat 4.4.4 was also very smooth and fast, but I was never a big fan of Holo, except for when ICS came out because anything woulda been better than the UI in Froyo & Gingerbread..
Okay, so I don't know why I just wrote all that, I started typing and couldn't stop, I was having fun remembering my Android career haha. I think the point I was trying to make was that in none of those devices did any of my phones start slowing down after any amount of time. With the exception of my Nexus 7(2012) because of the flash memory or whatever I said earlier.
I am debating getting a 6p...I've been saying no this whole time as my Nexus 5 is running better than ever, but I would like something with a bigger battery and bigger screen I think.

I moved to iOS, and these are the things I miss about Android. (Namely the Nexus6P)

I had the Nexus 6P, but as I take a lot of video, the lack of OIS really was a killer for me, so I made the jump to iOS to see which one I prefer. I'm still a baby iOS user, but I do feel like it's superior, but there are a few things I miss from Android (a.k.a. Nexus 6P).

I only use iTunes to back up my iPhone. I stream all my music via Google Play Music because I have so many albums uploaded to it.
Not bad and the "click-bait" is easily forgiven. I'm curious how you feel the sound of the music is between the two. Granted, idk if you used V4A on your 6P at all, but I'm curious which is better. How do you find the AMOLED panel vs the LCD? Which device do you find more fluid?

I didn't use V4A on the 6P, so it should be unsurprising that the sound on the iPhone is imo much better. (Headphones only, 6P speakers blow the 6s+ away).
Both devices are exceptionally fluid, and I would have trouble discerning a winner in a smoothness test, but I'm not disappointed with either in this regard. Maybe the strangest thing about the iPhone is how Twitter seems to take longer than all other apps to load, but other than that I might even put the iPhone a little ahead, but that's probably due to the transitions.
The AMOLED panel was beautiful, and the resolution was definitely better, but, as an amateur photographer, I prefer the LCD for it's colour accuracy. I'm aware I can turn on sRGB on the 6P to get the same effect, so in that regard I'd have to give the display award to the 6P, but straight out of the box; iPhone.
I went from an iPhone 6S+ to the 6p. IMO, your list of negatives about iOS is way too short! I'd add:
-Can't turn off auto arrange icons
-No app drawer. So if the app is installed, it's on one of your home screens.
-Difficult to make a song your ringtone.
-Will not port all songs from old Android phone. Itunes must think I don't own them all. Have to go through a process to convert them.
-App store sucks compared to Play Store. No ability to sort by feedback, very hard to find useful information. Total disaster organizationally. And most decent apps are not free.
-Have to jailbreak it just to theme it! And Jailbreak had not been achieved on the release I was on.
-Apple maps suck, and so does the current gen Google maps for iphones, since it won't locally store things like "home" and recent searches.
-Notification bar does not show temp.
-Stock keyboard sucks (no swiping) and Apple won't let 3rd party app makers access the speech to text microphone button for their better keyboards. So you have to switch back and forth if you want to use voice to text.
-Where are my home screen Widgets?
-Can't change things on a system level, like the keyboard or messaging. You can change it for some apps, but sometimes the stock one will pop up instead.
Opera mini browser will not allow typing input from the Swiftkey keyboard. Had to switch back to the horrid stock keyboard.
All these little wrinkles just make it feel less refined than a newer Android. Other stuff gives that feel, too. Like most settings for most apps are in the Settings area. But some apps have settings only in the app, some have some settings in both places. And the lack of a back button makes the interface less efficient since not every screen you progress to has a back link. Makes it a bit confusing.
Amazing. After reading it, already thought you were a "professional" (NOT exaggerating)! Best of luck in choosing a career. Continue to do such quality work, and you'll succeed in whatever path you choose.

For a pretty hardcore Apple Fanboy, he seemed quite amazed with what the Note 8 (and Android in general) could do that the iPhone couldn't. Many Apple users who've never used an Android just assume an iPhone is superior to an Android in every respect because they get sucked into the Apple Reality Distortion Bubble and don't have an informed opinion. It was refreshing to see this guy give credit where credit was due instead of just focusing on Android's weaknesses to the exclusion of all else, like many other Apple-leaning reviewers.

Just wait til regular people get the iPhone X in their hands. The first time they see an OLED screen and an edge-to-edge display, they'll think it's the second coming of Steve Jobs. I remember a lot of iPhone users (and even professional reviewers) making fun of the early Notes because they were gigantic compared to the 5-inch iPhones then. Now you have a lot of Plus users who'd never think of going back to a phone the same size as a 5s or SE.

It will be hilarious watching the Apple fanbois get hard over technology that's already been on Android for ages and proclaim it to be "game changing" and more reason iPhones are better than Android. Clueless little twats.
In that video, the one-handed mode allowed for custom sizing... mine doesn't do that. Am I the only one? And that swiping in from the top corner to get a little floating window... what the heck is that?? Mine is not doing that either! Is this maybe a launcher-specific thing? I can still get one-handed mode but it's locked to one size for me (using the sideloaded Pixel Launcher right now).
Also, this guy is extremely entertaining and I thoroughly enjoyed this video!
