Restore TiBu SMS history without root - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi,
I'm coming from a G3, which I traded in at Sprint. I've almost always been rooted so I didn't realize Titanium Backup wouldn't work at all without root. I'm trying to find an alternative to restore my SMS history from the TB Xml, so far Super Backup and SMS Backup and Restore don't consider the file as valid. Any help would be appreciated.

The TB XML backup file is proprietary to TB. There's not just one type of XML file.
You need to use those other apps to backup the old phone (if you still have it), and then use the same program to restore. Otherwise you're out of luck. Unless you have a spare phone which is rooted, where you can install TB, restore your SMS, then use the other programs to backup, transfer, and restore.

I ended up digging out my old HTC M7, restored on there and backed up with SMS Backup & Restore.

[Q] Backup apps and data?

Can anyone suggest a good backup that saves the apk and all the data?
I've tried titanium but it did restore some of the data, ie the dates on my calendar. I also tried mybackup root but it didn't restore some apps and others that it did restore had force closure issues.
I like the backup from cwr, is there way to only save apps?

Usually, I just use nandroid. If you want to backup your apps, though, I am pretty sure that titanium backup does that.
I should have edit my original post, i meant to say that it didn't fully restore my data, like the dates on my touch calendar.
I do usually just make a nandroid but im planning to flash froyo so need just my apps and data.

Ti usually does a pretty good job, that being said I use Astro to backup apps and associated data. Astro will backup Ti also so you can avoid having to go to market for Ti after flash ...also Ti will not backup itself, Astro will.
Thanks i'll try that out.

I have had great success using Titanium backup. Apps and data restore flawlessly. An occasional nandroid backup (from within ClockworkRecovery) is also great to do.

[Q] Import SMS from a nandroid backup

If I recall correctly, there was such an app, but I can't remember its name. :S
I use - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore&feature=search_result to backup and restore SMS.
It is not related to nandroid backup still, it may be helpful.
Nope. I cannot delete my current ROM to restore the nandroid. So, anyone can help?
Edit: I FOUND IT! https://market.android.com/details?id=com.handyandy.appextractor
For anyone that needs it. DD
Good find. This may come in handy in the future.
I also use SMS backup & restore, apn backup & restore, bookmark backup & restore, call logs backup & restore as well as titanium backup from the market.
This will help when I forget to backup one of them and only have a cwm backup.

[Q] WhatsApp restore question

Hi there,
I was wondering if it is possible to restore a previous backup so my chats will come back again. I had some important messages backed up and I would like to see them again.
I have placed the backup files in the whatsapp backup and database folder and when I reinstalled whatsapp it had asked me to restore using an old backup and so I did click ok but the chats never appeared.
I would be very greatful if you could help me restore them.
Thank you.

I got the same issues with old chats not restoring after installing whatsapp. I created a backup before and can see this file in the database folder. Tried moving to the backup folder but makes no difference.
Anyone got a fix?
When you reinstall whatsapp and the backup folder is in the same place on the SD card as when you backed up... I think whatsapp is supposed to ask you if you wanna restore when you go through the whole installation process. I normally just titanium backup just to be safe, but the whatsapp method should work with whatsapp.

What's the best way to backup before updating/rooting?

What's the best way to backup before updating/rooting? Also what do you recommend I backup other than phone contacts, txt's, pics, and other important files that I may have saved? I backed up my phone contacts using the HTC sense export to SD card feature, and backed up my txt's to the SD card into one file using the sense option.

Don't you have to be rooted to use that? I thought I read that somewhere, but I don't know. lol

I think it has some non root features. Easiest way to backup is just to root and use titanium backup. I doubt there's a backup utility out there that doesn't require root access permission

SMS Backup+ and MyBackup will get you sqaured away on apps/sms history. Also, if you use the google syncing features, you can use that to bring in your contacts.
You're going to root anyway then go ahead in root which won't change or clear anything then use Titanium Backup to backup your apps and SMS and contacts then you can update and Flash ROMs. Then reload titanium backup and restore all of your apps and contacts and recent call history. People have the misconception that rooting is the same is flashing rom but it's not rooting just gives you administrative rights over your phone

Thanks for the advice everyone. I ended up backing up my contacts and sms through HTC's backup to sdcard method inside sense. I just upgraded to the official ICS sense 3.6 lol.
Also, texascfdad, thanks for the clarification on the different between rooting and flashing roms.

[Q] Where is the Backup by LG program, I understand if you don't know.

Where is the Backup by LG program? I am trying to use Samsung's new Smart Switch program so I don't have to spend days and days restoring everything on my Rooted LG OG to the Note 2. The software needs a backup file but I can't find the "Backup by LG" app that is supposed to be on our phone. Does anyone know how to backup the phone to a local file? I don't think it will use a Titanium Backup. I really don't want to lose my work Whatsapp logs.
Titanium Backup will restore your Whatsapp logs.
