custom recovery for galaxy ace SM-G357FZ - Samsung Galaxy Ace 4

hello the community,
am in the search for a custom recovery for the above titled device as it's my work friends wifes device and the screen smashed and am trying to recover the data from it...it's screen is totally not working,it's pin locked and also no usb debugging enabled so no recovery programs will work...i found an article online which will get me access but the problem is that i need a custom recovery to get access via ADB if anyone can help that would be awesome...thanks
i have searched the forum and google for a compatible recovery but have found nothing so far

hey everyone a friend of mine here on the forum @HypoTurtle has kindly ported a recovery for this device if anyone would like to test it that would be awesome for users...the reason he originally made it was so that i could recover some files via ADB from a friends galaxy ace who's screen was broken unfortunately the device never bothered to power on so i couldn't get an opportunity to test this TWRP build...but if any of you are willing here is the link to the recovery please flash it through ODIN of course as there is no available recovery for this version of the galaxy ace and maybe this could help a few people
so please make sure you have a recovery rom or stock recovery.img to use if TWRP isn't working for you...this is a WIP and i am not even sure if this will be updated by the dev but it's worth checking out
https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B8...nB3WGZsOWRoeG8

Link doesn't work. I can test it , but first you have to reupload the files/fix the link.

hey guys been a while but i am back up and running again...it's been so long i have managed to forget where the file is on my p.c. so am waiting for @HypoTurtle to get back to me after he has checked the file i think is the correct one then i will post the link...thanks for your patience

ok guys n gals so here is the link to the TWRP...hope it works for you please post any logs if you know how if it fails or there are any problems.. @HypoTurtle only usually makes these for MTK devices so this will be a slow WIP,also make sure you have a full backup available to use if anything goes wrong....please remember you FLASH THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK...if you get bricked, get pregnant,or anything else it's not our fault

what do you suggest...google drive refuses to allow the file to be uploaded as it always seems to pause halfway through

mega.nz or dropbox.com would be ok.

there you go

i will asume no news is good news then....if anybody has managed to get this recovery up and running on their device please post an answer otherwise i will ask mods to delete the thread

Gonna test it later today. It's 4:25 AM at mine place right now.

My SGS2 soft bricked?

Hi everyone i hope somebody can help me my problem is that i was on Stock Rom 2.3.6 and i want to put a custom rom so i root it, i did it everything good.
But then following a tutorial of how to put cwm i did it like the video flashing with odin and mine said success but i have bootloop. I never tought trying to enter cwm so i tried to flash stock rom again but didnt have success.
It started but have only fails in odin and now i dont know how but it haves a NAND rw corruption and doesnt let me flash roms only kernels.
When i try to flash a rom i have that problem. So looking on internet now i know that is a soft brick because only i can enter download mode not recovery.
I already tried to do what a thread over here says about how to recover from a soft brick with a recovery package and a kernel, also tried to flash a bootloader that came with that but it doesnt let flash. It stills turns on but only download mode.
I take it to repair but here in Mexico cant even tried something they gave me back my phone and they have it 3 days there for nothing, is it hard brick or something like that because it doesnt come back with that tutorial of soft brick
PS: It haves the triangle i know that is something normal when you flash it, but in the download mode my count number is 24 ._. too much i know but thats because i already tried everything i found and still like that, is there a problem with all that counts? i dont have a jtag
I think this is the LONGEST sentence I've ever read in my life.
Would you mind if you put some periods? I'm having a hard time decoding what your post means.

I put enters dont know why it go out there like that, but sorry the point of my problem is that:
1.- I was on Stock Rom 2.3.6.
2.- Rooted and everything fine.
3.- Tried to flash cwm following a tutorial and didn't start had a bootloop.
4.- Then i tried to flash back the stock rom and there came the problem:
- I can only access to download mode.
- No recovery mode.
- Sometimes it said on the screen when turning on "Samsung Galaxy S II" with the triangle, but other times says "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again".
- Always says fail in Odin when i tried to flash a Rom (Only Kernel success), the problem is the Nand rw is corrupted.
- Already did a tutorial to recover a soft brick but no success it gaves the same error of nand rw.
- Cant flash an old bootloader that cames with the tutorial of soft brick.
I don't have a Jtag but i can put it in download mode so i think i dont need it or im wrong?

You should not flash with bootloader. Try flash the recommended .pit file instead. After a successful flash, flash the ROM.

I tought that when is Hardbricked it was when it doesnt turn on or go to download mode, but maybe your right.
Im gonna try that thanks, but I think it will have fail because it says to flash PDA .OFFICIAL XWLPG and as I said it doesnt let flash any rom with that NAND rw problem.
Anyway if i try only flashing Siyah Kernel could it help? I was reeding something about dual boot or something like that

no.
-Nand corruption is also hard enough to make your phone useless.
-that method should work since you are only flashing kernel as pda
I'm waiting for your feedback

[Q] Galaxy S4 Unroot / Unbrick Problems

Hello,
I have a problem unrooting/unbricking my Galaxy S4 for Verizon. I followed step-by-step processes and it seems to not work properly for me. I downloaded "Odin3 v.1.85" and the stock firmware, "GalaxyS4/SCH-i545/VRUAMDK_NoWipe.tar.zip" and "SCH-I545_MDK_562219_Stock_Restore.tar.md5" for Verizon. I put my phone into the Download Mode and began the process of unrooting using Odin. I made sure that my device was connected. I clicked PDA and chose the stock firmware for my phone. I clicked Start and it begins. As soon is it begins, it says it is not responding, but I wait a few seconds and it responds. After that, it continues where it left off for the unrooting process. The process turned out to be a fail. Here's the message:

I attempted the Kies process, and it would not connect my device to Kies. Please help. I feel as if I were the only user with this problem. Thank you.
sounds like you were already on v7 baseband try getting that stock image and go through odin.
because you cant go back to the original baseband (which is the md5 you listed) but I had similiar issues.

yep. I only wanted to make sure you did install the update or otherwise some of the 32gb s4 come with it preinstalled.
just saying this because updating to me7 is irreversible you wont be able to flash roms right now only apply a root
download the me7 md5 this time and do all the same steps I followed this guide

if you can't get the usb port (charging port) to work with communicating to your computer then there really isn't much you can do. Have you tried cleaning the contacts off inside the port? Are you sure its NOT the cable?

I,like you, have a MetorPCS Mega.
If your customer only wiped the OS, do a TWRP backup so you will at least have any data that may be on the phone.
There is no official firmware yet that I'm aware of. However, you can get your phone back working by flashing the CM11 (Android KitKat) ROM from the following thread. I confirm that it works on the MetroPCS Mega. I (as well as others with MetroPCS Megas) flashed it on my phone.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2566642&page=25
Find any post from Silesh.Nair. Look in his signature and you will find links to TWRP, his custom CM11 ROM, and one of the GApps file. You have to flash the TWRP from his link via ODIN. His version of TWRP supports the newest version of Android (KitKat). This is necessary for you to be able to flash his ROM in TWRP. You will also need to flash one the GApps files in his links. This way you can get back any contacts, calendar, etc. info via your google account.
I'm not sure if the i9200/i9205 custom ROMS from the Mega development forums (here on XDA Developers) work on the MetroPCS ROM (I never tried them) but having TWRP recovery installed on your phone and a backup or working custom ROM gets you back working in case you soft brick your phone flashing a non-compatible ROM. You don't have much to lose given you're already soft-bricked and there's no existing MetroPCS Mega firmware. Hopefully a firmware comes soon so you can get back to stock.
Who knows? you may fall in love with CM11 and forget all about the stock firmware. LOL
if anyone has a better idea, or see a problem with my suggestion, please say so.
For future reference, the first order of business when you flash a custom recovery, do a NANDROID backup and save it to your phone memory or SD card if you have one in the phone. That way, you can reverse a soft brick in all of five minutes (the time it takes to restore the backup).
here is a clean backup of the stock ROM. Just unzip it and put the file in your TWR back up folder. Than flash it as a restore.
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B4kEgjurpDOLMzFrd2h5WkZFc2M/edit?usp=sharing
Thanks!
Thanks guys i will try it out now.

If you don't have a TWRP folder, then you probably haven't ever done a TWRP backup to the sd card. Perhaps you can put the sd card into the phone, go into TWRP recovery mode and perform a backup just to create the proper subdirectory you need. Be sure to create the backup on the sd card and not the phone's internal storage. Everything below is based on the backup being on the sd card and not the phone's internal storage. The backup will create the proper folder.
Then, take the unzipped folder (ceanbackup) from bnb25's file (ceanbackup.zip) and move it into the TWRP folder. Be sure to put it into TWRP/BACKUPS/xxxxxxxx (the name of this folder varies but you need to move the ceanbackup folder into it)/
With the sd card in the phone, go into recovery mode, select Restore, select the micro sdcard for your storage (right below the time and battery percentage at the top you will see Storage, you can click on it to switch between the micro sdcard and the phone's internal storage),hit ok, then touch ceanbackup to select it, make sure all partitions are checked (boot, data, system), then swipe to restore (at the bottom of the screen).
This should get you working. I did it myself and it worked.

Cool. Glad you got it back working. I know how it feels to not have your device. I bricked my Mega the day I bought it. I rooted it but there was no custom recovery or ODIN-flashable firmware available. I installed software to change fonts and bricked it. It's not a good feeling.
Glad you got it working. I'll leave that backup online for anyone else that needs it.
I have a question, bare with me.
First and foremost, hello and happy holidays! Ok ive been following the post on the mega on here and before that
on my other device. Ive learned a ton from you guys. My question is this. I just bought the mega about 15 days ago.
I was able to get root but since then have messed some things up.
I acentdently took off google play. Bad move have got it working again and removed some bloatware. I would love to go back to as if I never rooted. Lol. What is the trw recovery? I seen where the guy posted a full stock recovery. I have used odin before on another device. So if one of you kind souls could tell me the steps to flashing this phone back I would be so grateful. I can follow the steps to a t. I will print the replies as to make sure. Thanks again!

you have to make a back up of the current ROM for the Folder to be created.
Okay, I'm trying to find out, if, I can copy/backup someone else's ROM of the same model (sgh-m819n) and then install that stock ROM to my phone since I didn't do a backup of my stock ROM. I would like to just return my phone to the way it was when I bought it. With all of my metro apps and exclusive samsung apps. And is there also away I can backup (the other phone) without rooting or voiding their warranty? I tried using CWM & TWRP

whats the issues you are having? you need step by step for what?
Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but is this a stock firmware for the SGH-M819N, that is flashable through Odin?
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=SGH-M819N&pcode=0#firmware
Could this be used for restoring a device back to a factory fresh state after installing a custom ROM like... CM11 (unofficial) for instance?
I'm downloading it now (super slow server-side bandwidth ~80kb/s) and will report back later.
If the file once you download it is a .tar or .tar.md5 file then it is flashable with odin then, looks like a stock firmware to me as it has the file for the PDA window of odin..what size is the file as i am not registered there and cannot see what size the file is.

[Q] Tried to root my phone and it has gone wrong

First of all I'm going to say that I really don't know a lot about phone rooting and I only decided to do it so that I could recover deleted text messages on my Galaxy S2. I thought it would be a lot easier than it is and I've messed it up. I am an idiot I know!
I'll try and go through every step that I have done and hopefully someone will be able to help me.
I used this guide:
http://www.cnet.com/uk/how-to/how-to-root-your-samsung-galaxy-s2/
And then, because I couldn't download the kernels from the link provided I ended up using these instead
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...kernels-updated-insecure-ics-kernels-t1619525
I believe I first downloaded the one titled: Kernel_I9100DXLPB_INSECURE.tar
I managed to do that successfully and then went on to root the phone and also did that successfully.
HOWEVER that is when the problem started. My phone would not reboot properly and would only show Galaxy sII start up screen with the yellow exclamation mark. It then turned off. I searched again to see what I had done wrong and I found that I may have flashed the wrong kernel and that perhaps my phone was a galaxy sii i9100-g. So I tried to flash one which was compatible but when I did so everything I was doing was failing.
Looking at the back of my phone however my model does seem to be an i9100 and not a G.
So I am very stuck, I know now that I probably shouldn't have done this when I know nothing about it but if anyone is kind enough to help me I would really appreciate it.
Just to let you know the phone does 1. go to the galaxy s2 start up screen and 2. goes into download mode.
Also the battery charging screen does come up. But I don't want to try anything else until I have sought some advice.
Thank you very much.

I think it is Jelly Bean. I can't say for sure because I can't see the number now as I can't access my phone but I know it begins 4.1.
Yep,it's Jelly Bean. You flashed ICS kernel on JB,thus this problem.I would suggest to flash Jelly Bean compatible Philz kernel via ODIN.You'll gain root + won't lost any data.

Yes,because you don't know what firmware version you have.
If all goes nicely, reflash a kernel that matches your rom later.

Hi, sorry to bother you again but this should be the last time! Everything is working, but now I would like to do what you said and reflash the right kernel - if I do this will the phone still be rooted? And also will this then remove the exclamation mark?
How can I find which is the correct one?
Thanks again.
No problem
Go to phone's settings/about device. Then look at the build number.Accordingly, download a matching kernel(everything is explained in Philz kernel OP).Root will not be affected.
As for yellow triangle, use TriangleAway from Original Android Development section.

Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 YP-G70 Soft-Bricked...

Hi guys, new poster here. After researching the threads on here and on other sites, I can't seem to find the exact solution to fix this. I've got a U.S. version that when trying to update the stock ROM from Gingerbread 2.3.5 to 2.3.6, I accidentally booted up my device during the initial install process through Odin. When I did that my device went into the forced download mode with the "Phone triangle to PC " error screen. I'm not exactly sure where to go from here, as I can't get into the normal (maintenance) download mode or Recovery Mode.
When I first tried to install the 2.3.6 software, guided by the instructions in the following thread title (can't post the link since it's my first time, sorry), "[How to] Upgrade SGP 5.0 to Android v2.3.6" posted by Sanchezhacker on anything but ipod's website, here is what I ended up with:

I'd like to be able to install 2.3.6 but I'm not exactly sure how to get out of the forced download mode first.
How do I get out of download mode and how can I install 2.3.6 from there?
Your input is greatly appreciated!!
Thank you, and God bless!!

Well, when I tried to download your file in the link you gave me, I waited until 4shared's wait to download timer ran out and here's the message I got once it did, "Sorry, the file link that you requested is not valid. Sign error."
Any ideas for a workaround?

Sorry, busy lately but it looks like you did it properly. Normally all you have to do is put the *.md5 file in PDA and hit start. Looks like you did that and it still did not work. I suggest that you download the first tar ( not zip ) file here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1445840
This is a custom kernel with a custom recovery in it. flash the .tar file the same way you did with the .md5 file. Click PDA; select the tar file; click start.
See if that succeeds. If it does, attempt to get into recovery like this :
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uzu4uDTDL5k
NOTE: Video shows how to get to download mode but just use the opposite volume key to get to recovery.
Then let me know what happens....:highfive::highfive:

Come to think of it, I don't believe it has. Except for the process of getting it bricked, with my dumb move to try and power it up in the middle of the install process of 2.3.6, haha. That was a bad move on my part. But no, it hasn't.

Soft Bricked Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0
Hello,
First, I am sorry to jump in this thread, but I am having the exact problem listed in this thread. I picked up this player at a hamfest in NC. The battery was dead. But when I plugged it in to charge, the screen was black with a little phone symbol, an orange triangle, and a computer.
I have tried all the instruction that were posted, with the same results. So if you have any other suggestions I'd appreciate it.
thank you

I really appreciate your help thus far, but it's been almost a month and still no luck with the darn device... Maybe it's time to look for a replacement, possibly..

I'm sorry guys; I've owned my Galaxy Player 5 since 2011 and I have bricked it several times since then and I have never come across a situation that I could not bring the player back from but, as a (self taught)developer I am pretty good at diagnostic and evaluation procedures. The first step in that is to gather as much information about the problem as possible.
There is a program called heimdall that is like odin but it works on the linux command line that can give more information about what is happening during a flash and it "might" give you a better idea about what is the problem.
The biggest problem that I have run across with this device is that the partition table gets mangled some how and therefore odin does not know where to put data. This can ususally be fixed by flashing a custom kernel like Entropy's Daily Driver and then booting into recovery and using partition tools to carefully reconstruct the table...
Then again, the hardware may actually be damaged...

Sorry for the bump, but as of August I've been enrolled in the Computer Information Systems program at my local technical school, so I've been really busy with that here lately. We're about to learn how to run Linux using VirtualBox for the first time in our Operating Systems Concepts class. I figured I'd let you guys know so I can maybe get somewhere with fixing my GP using Heimdall while running Linux.
I really hope the hardware isn't damaged.
Update: I downloaded VirtualBox on my laptop this past week and was able to successfully install Linux. I just need to install Heimdall using VirtualBox.
