How can I install Viper? - Sony Xperia M4 Aqua

I've successfully rooted and installed TWRP, but I can't install Viper, no matter which method I use; either flashing a zip or using the APK. Busybox is installed and tests ok, as does SuperSu. Has anyone successfully installed Viper on the M4? It seems to be the driver that doesn't install properly. On a couole of attempts it states the driver has installed, yet it does nothing, or gives an I/O error.
Any help would be much appreciated. I'm using a 2303 on 3.111 firmware.
Cheers!

Worked perfectly, thanks! Any recommendations on boosting the volume, as even with the best IRS files, and my usual tweaks, the volume isn't great.

What will happen if I Install Viper with the stereo speakers mod already Installed?

Thanks.. That was the first thing I did, along with using a variety of convolver IRS files, but it still seems a tad quiet, especially compared to Viper on my old Xperia SP.

Viper4android + 4.4.4, I need your help

So i have a nexus flo i use as a in dash for my car, so it's crucial that i get the best audio possible
I was on mahdi 4.4.3 , i installed extremebeats mod, rebooted, installed v4a as a user app, installed driver, rebooted, used lucky patcher to move it to system\priv-app with working IRS files. Everything works fine using poweramp on mahdi 4.4.3
Doing the same thing using 4.4.4 and power amp, all settings are the same, no luck. audio processing is dead in the water (even without extremebeats mod)
So i flashed the v4a zip file, processing is ok now, but IRS files don't work (convolver settings).
IRS files are crucial to me.
At this point i keep finding myself back on 4.4.3 out of lost hope.
I already asked for help in the v4a thread but no one was able to help. Hoping there are some out of box thinkers in here.
Thanks in advanced.

CyanogenMod 12 Audio

I do not have permission yet to share this in the development thread, so I'll share it here: when using CyanogenMod 12 some apps won't load all the audio, changing from NuAudio to AwesomeAudio fixed my issue. Its in the development settings, it looks like this image here.
My mixer_paths
I made a Mixer_Path.xml to boost up speaker/volume without distortion. I tested it on my LG G2 and it works perfectly, no distortions, clear speaker bass and so on headphones.
To install :
- copy mixer_paths.xml that you found on the mixer_paths.rar (below) to your phone
- with a File Manager (and root privilege) copy the mixer_paths.xml from where you put it to "/system/etc/" directory
- Erase the previous one if the phone ask you to.
- Restart phone.
- Enjoy
Thanks. Will this damage the internal speaker over time

Jasmine 7.0 is not CyanogenMod based, the file you used is for Cyanogen Builds. Here is a backup of an LG G3 mixer_paths, try it and tell me.
I just tried it still no audio I copied the file using root browser

Then reflash your Jasmine 7.0 from your recovery without any wipe (DONT WIPE ANYTHING) it will be like an update so you won't loose anything from your phone and you'll get sound back .

Sound Mod for 5.02?

Does anyone know if there is any sound mods that will work for rooted 5.02?
Thanks
There are plenty of sound mods you can try out offered by the Xperia community at the Xperia Cross Devices board. Be sure to make a system backup at the very least in case the new mods aren't to your liking or preference.
try Xtreme Music Mod or Project Desire, they rocks
Im on 5.0.2. I use VIPER"4"ANDROID and it is awesome. There is so much u can adjust with it. U can make your music sound perfect.
On 5.0.2. You have to use the apk, lolliviper to get it to work with lollipop.
Ive also used PROJECT DESIRE and it was pretty nice but i could not use it unless i didnt want to have viper4 working on my system at all, i have to be able to use viper becouse of the bass. I dont have expensive headphones, an the bass i can get using viper i cannot replicate with headphones without it( im a basslover). I couldnt find any way to have them both work on my system becouse project desire changes the sound configuration files in a way that will not let viper4android work at all.
I have also got EXTREMEMUSIC audio affects to work on 5.0.2, And it works alongside viper.
Also i have got DOLBY ATMOS to work, but it has only worked once or twice and the rest of the time nothing happens when i use it, i can change settings with no affect. I dont know if i did somthing wrong or didnt set it up/ settigs wrong. But i did get it to work randomly once at least.
Can anyone provide link for viper? I'm on ?. 509 Thx ?

Are you rooted and running nut's recovery partition?
Read the entire first part of the thread I linked for you. Download, install via recovery, reboot, find and open the app, and it then has to download driver(s) of your choice (very quickly). I believe it calls for another reboot after that. Then go into the app again and play with all the amazing options.
You can truly tailor the sound to any liking.
Persist on this one. Trust me, it's well worth it!

[17-Feb-2017] Viper4Android 2.5.0.5 Nougat Build - Flashable w/ Preinstalled Driver

A few days ago, there was an update from zhuhang for the already released Viper4Android 2.5.0.5. It addresses the issues that a lot of people are having with getting V4A working under Nougat. I tested it with my ROM, and the driver installed without error. So then I decided to make a flashable zip that would preinstall the driver and save you a few minutes plus a reboot. Other than possibly needing to grant Storage permissions in Settings, this is a quick flash and go.
The zip that should work on any LG-based ROM, and possibly on AOSP-based as well. Just download, flash in TWRP, and reboot. You may need to grant Storage permissions in Settings.
XDA Thread:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191223

I [obviously] didn't create V4A, but if you include my zip in your ROM, please give a mention and link back to this thread.

Thanks for this.. I'm sure many will get use out of it..!
Not sure if I did something wrong or not - but I can't get it to work.
I'm on DevDigital's ls997 ver 6.5 magisk phh.
Flashed in twrp. Granted root permision.
go to SuperSU / un-check Mount_name spaces separately / under the settings. turn on adb debugging.

You shouldn't have been promoted to grant root access. V4A only needs root to install the driver, which is preinstalled.
If you're being prompted to install a driver, the ROM likely uses a different conf file to control audio.
Sent from my iPhone 7 Plus using Tapatalk
He built and ported to magisk recently. Has a module you need to install then install Swansong
I haven't played with it yet. I like the new app but dont see a diffence in drivers from 2.5.0.4 to 2.5.0.5
Magisk has a compatible module in his downloads via the app that works with my rom (2.5.0.4)
I install that via magisk manager then i pulled the latest viper4arise.apk and installed instead of the older ui viperfx apk that is linked on the downloads page inside magisk manager.
Driver installs correctly for many others as well. You may need to dirtyflash my rom and start over. Magisk manager also received a update yesterday via playstore. The process on phh or magisksu as its now called is different now as its "systemless" vs modifying the actual system files.
If you dont want to go 5through the hassel of above. Just go to developer settings inside of the viper apps settings and turn off selinux and recheck driver status. Im 99% sure it works this way but ive said it before, i wont push the rom this route as i dont perfer it to be off by defualt.
Hope this helps
Got it all worked out thanks to the rom creator above. Team DevDigitel.
Thank You
Thank you for your work on this flashable zip it's much appreciated, I just have a couple of questions though for anyone who might know..
I'm still running the original stock rom (rooted with TWRP) on my LG V20 and a while back I followed the directions from another thread to install V4A, and I was able to get it to work (even through bluetooth) but it's kind of wonky and just hit or miss so I'd really like to try this one out instead.
I'm assuming I should uninstall the version of V4A I have right now but is there anything else that I need to do (besides a nand backup) before flashing this one? Also one of the steps to install the V4A I have right now was deleting a system file (I'll have to go look to be sure but I believe it was something like mixer_paths.xml), so I just thought I'd check to see if that will somehow effect this version or if I possibly need to put the original file back where it was before flashing this one?
I apologize if these are stupid questions but I just thought play it safe and check first before giving this a shot, because even though the version I have is kind of wonky it still works through bluetooth which from what I've read is something that a lot of people haven't been able to get working, and since I use it so much I'm just afraid to even risk losing it. Anyway I'll definitely create a backup before doing anything but any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

You don't need to delete any files for this zip. You're supposed to delete /system/etc/audioeffects.conf, but I've done that with the script.
As I use this more, Bluetooth still occasionally doesn't process after pausing for an extended period, like getting out of the car for more than 5 minutes, but all you need to do for it to kick back on is exit V4A from the menu, then open it up again. It'll immediately start processing again.
If you have an unmodified system backup to restore, that will help ensure it works OK, but it may not be needed.

Thank you for the quick response and for the info and I have no clue why I had mixer_paths on the brain but yeah audioeffects.conf is the file I had to delete while installing the version I have, and as far as what you said about the bluetooth acting up it sounds pretty similar to the wonkyness that I was describing with the version I currently have.
One weird thing that I've noticed with mine (and I don't have the slightest idea how or why it's doing it) is when I'm listening to music through my bluetooth headset, none of the settings under the "Bluetooth" section in V4A have any effect on the sound whatsoever.. but what's weird is that all of the settings under the "Headphones" section do (so it's basically like the section names were swapped somehow)?!
I know for sure that I don't have anything plugged into the jack and the headset I'm using is definitely bluetooth (because it's pretty easy to tell lol), so I have no clue why the settings under headphones would work just fine while the ones under bluetooth don't do it anything at all?
Anyway thank you again for the info I'll give it a shot as soon as I have time and let ya know how it went, and unfortunately the only thing I didn't backup was my unmodified system (it didn't even cross my mind until after I was done rooting) but hopefully it'll still be ok. Thanks again!

You can definitely control BT devices from the BT tab on this one. And I've found with more testing that before I get in my car, switch to V4A and exit it, then open it again as soon as Play Music connects. Works every time.
I would just like to say thank you!!
I installed this .zip on my T-mo variant over the previous V4A install via dirty flash. It resolved my Bluetooth processing issues on the stock V20 ROM. I've been working on this the past few days. VERY happy it now works in my car like my last phone did!
Now, once I get the nerve to flash over the new modem and bootloader via TWRP to get up to 20j, I'm highly inclined to check out the new ROM by NATF.
Cheers!

The new modem and other firmware is not a strict requirement for ROMs built on 10j. You just need to make sure TWRP is on the latest release.

The tutorial will show you how to make Viper4Android work on Android 10 and avoid issues like ringtone distortion or no Bluetooth audio.
Please uninstall previous installations of viper or any other audio mod before proceeding to the steps below.
(Updated) Steps:
Download and install BusyBox for NDK from magisk (Don't Reboot)
Download and install Viper from magisk and reboot.
Go to Viper app and install drivers, the device will reboot automatically.
Download and install Audio Compatibility Patch from magisk and do the following:

Now, if you are facing issues like ringtone distortion or no bluetooth audio, please flash the following:
For ringtone/notification sound distortion: Flash Notification Remover Helper.
For no bluetooth audio: Flash Viper Pie Fix v2
Note: After flashing the above fixes, you may be prompted to install drivers by Viper again. You can go ahead and install the drivers again.

Sadly flashing "Flash notification remover helper" does not get rid of the distorted system sounds/alarms.
This was the solution for me, no distortion with alarm and bluetooth is working

Looked into this. The audio compatibility patch is a collection of patches mentioned in the original post.
It has a usb audio related patch and the notification helper remover. Would be easier to just flash notification helper remover.

Not initially, but I did yesterday.
Just removing the volume listener library didn't work. So I removed V4A and started from scratch.
Installed V4A, installed AML, installed the driver, deactivated AML and flashed NHR and removed volume listener library and then installed the driver again :silly: .
Don't know why it's working, but it's working as intended now.
System sounds working, BT working,
even my trouble with some IG stories sounding ok and others being distorted are gone.
Thank you.

I've followed the procedures, didn't work.
Tried all the suggested combos in the thread, didn't work.
Tried all sorts of weird combos, none worked either.
Notification and ringtones still crackles when viper works.
Not working here...On pixel experience 10 . I either end up with stuttering audio or no bt at all.
Sadly does not work for me either on Evox.
