Bootloop with no working recovery - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there,
So I wanted to boot my phone to recovery (which i had installed some time ago) to make a backup, but the phone would just boot normally.
So i decided to install dual recovery from my pc. When it should ask me for root permission it didn't. I thought it's ok and rebooted anyway.
There is sony logo on the screen, then the screen goes black, the phone turns off and shows sony logo again.
I've dealt with bootloops a lot in the past, but How can i escape this loop if I don't have any working recovery?
Please, help me I'm really desperate :crying:

I thought about it too but I can't go into flash mode and make my pc detect my phone....

ah do u know how to get into flash mod!! press volume down botton and plug it with pc .. hope it works if no check if the z2 driver is really installed and flashtool drivers too .. hope u fix ur phone

Yeah I know... Everything installed it just won't do anything besides showing sony logo and restarting no matter what I do...
I think it tries to boot into recovery which isn't there

My phone was bootlooping the other day and holding the power button wouldn't turn it off. I found though that Holding Power + Vol Up for some reason gave it a few vibrates and powered it off.
When phone was off I could then hold down Vol Down and plug in for flash mode and reflashed the TFT. Good luck.

yes of course you have to turn the phone off before trying to start it in flash mode. the power plus Vol Up will power off the Phone after the vibrations. after that you need to keep pressing vol Down and connect it to PC flashtool

Phone wont boot. Bad flash

Xperia S Issues. Bad Flash
Hi, I read the 'existing users' installation instructions on the Sspeed ICS rom and installed the rom without installing the ics rom and kernel (I was tired). When booting, I go in a bootloop with the doomkernel screen. I can access recovery fine.
When holding vol+ and connecting to PC the phone goes back into it's bootloop and does not boot into fastboot.
When holding vol- and connecting to PC the phone flashes the green led and then boots into bootloop.
If I wait until the phone vibrates and lights up blue I can press the button to access recovery. I thought I could then just copy a gb rom over using USB mount but it is not detected on the PC.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I have the same problem too... I was hoping it would just work, but apparently it doesn't it needs a base rom.....I'm at work at the moment so i cannot fix my phone(i flashed it while at work which i shouldn't have done...) i noticed you can put it into fast boot in recovery - go to reboot options then fast boot can you see if that works

Hi thanks for your reply. I've tried going to fastboot
from recovery and I get a blue flashing light for one flash then it boots up again. Am I able to do anything at that point?
Glad I'm not the only stupid one on here
im not the expert here but I have bricked other phones before but never an xperia phone before. I have been reading up, the doom kernel has some mounting options, try to mount the sd card as mass storage so pc can send files accross to the phone. It should be mount and storage menu -> mount usb storage, then leave it on that menu and connect to computer, see if that works

Hi is this by the mount USB storage optuon ? I tried that and it wasn't detected on the PC. I could try another PC later. Recovery went into mount mode fine but nothing happened on the PC. Not even a blank drive which I know some people have had
If it blinks the LED for a second and reboots, that means that you don't have the drivers. Install drivers that are bundled with flashtool and try again. Or use Linux / OSX.

I've used the laptop I'm trying it on for unlocking the boot loader and rooting. Maybe something corrupted the drivers. Will try on my Linux machine when I get home.
Thank you for all the help so far
Just Press VolUp and Power button until you get (one vibration followed by 3 consecutive vibrations) ... it will mean phone is shutdown.
Once shutted down, you will be able to press VolDown while plugging phone to PC and it will enter into flashmode.
Then you will be able to flash a FTF using flashtool
doesn't work...after the 3 beeps i let go and the screen turns black but then the boot loop happens again, i cant turn the phone off

Hello. I've got familiar problem. My phone blacked out after one day having about 35 % battery full. I was trying to reset it by holding power and volume up buttons - nothing happened. Just once showed up Sony logo but then again black nothing. Then it vibrate 3 times quickly and from that time it is shutted down, won't turn on even in flashmode. LED is not working too. I was asking for advice in local store servise and guy told me, that new phones have to be at least 30 min on the charger. So it's here now for hour, no result. :/
Just fixed this issue.
Follow these steps
1.hold vol up + power until phone vibrates 3 times.
2.open flash tool and point towards your stock file.
3.hit okay
4.wait for flash tool to prepare the files then it will prompt you to connect device in flash mode( vol down + power)
5.wait for it to finish. Unplug reboot and there you go fixed...
Hope this helps

Use the bundled wallcharger!!! not a PC, pc has too less power to charge it now!
After wallcharger is placed hold vol+ and power for a few seconds until 3 vibrations, then let the phone on charger for atleast 2 hours, if all is good phone will bootup to the "charging animation"
Regards

Something similar happened to me. I have the bugged version of chargemon (only can charge with phone on) and accidentally discharged completely. The phone didn't boot, didn't charge and didn't do the 3 vibrations thing. So I put the battery off, conected the wall charger, putted the battery and it booted
It's really easy to remove the battery, you just need to be careful

[Xperia U] boot loop/soft brick

While updating a new Xperia U to ICS the PCC had an error while flashing the new firmware. Now the screen lights up, the sony logo is shown for ~3-5 seconds and then it reboots.
After that I have been unable to get it recognized again by either PCC/SUS or flash tool.
I also checked my log files in Linux and no device appears.
I've tried 3 different machines (2x Windows 8, 1x Win 7), multiple USB ports. Also leaving the battery out for ~30 mins didn't change the behavior.
The green light for download mode comes on, but after about 5 seconds the light goes out and it goes into the boot loop again.
So by now I believe the device needs to be sent in, but maybe some one has a few more things I can try.
Try pressing the volume down plus volume up plus power button all 3 simultaneously till u feel 3 vibrations

Can you make sure the Flashtool drivers are installed ? Go to Flashtool Directory, open drivers directory and start the setup.. Make sure to select the Flashmode and Fastboot drivers are also selected. Then, reboot System and folow this order.
Startt flashtool, select f/w, wait for Flashtool to tell you to connect to device. Then, holding the Volume down button (while phone is switched off), plug the cable into phone (The usb cable must already be connected to PC before starting the Flash Procedure )
The Order is very important.. I had same issue with U (althoguh mine crashed with Flashtool and same as what you observed. When I followed this order, I was able to get it detected and flashed )
Hopefully, you wont need to return to Service Center

No response, I've tried holding all three buttons for a minute, but it doesn't vibrate after turning on. The only way I can turn it off is by removing the battery.

I tried that right now, Flashmode and Fastboot drivers are installed. Flash tool is ready, device is plugged in with volume down pressed, green light comes on. Nothing is found on the PC, after about 5 seconds the green light turns off and the phone shows the sony logo. Green light also comes on if i simply plug in the usb without volume down pressed. So I'm thinking, the download mode has some how been corrupted?

I'm in the exactly same situation... Any help is welcome...
While trying to enter flashmode, green light turns on but after some secs it turns off and sony logo appears on screen. any chance to recover this beautiful brick ?
thanks
After several tries (a lot of...) I manage to enter flashmode and SUS is now reinstalling sony ROM.
Honestly I donĀ“t know how it works this time and not the others but i'm happy with it independently of what happens.
... seems flashtool is detecting ur phone try to flash first the stock kernel and do not wipe everything it shud be in timing though.. onces it is flash charge ur phone in kernel mode (phone is off) then you can flash the stock fw of ur XU.

I bricked my xperia U as well... When i tried to power ON, it just vibrates and nothing happens, i dont even get the sony logo. When i get into flash boot mode it gets connected but after 20secs, the phone turns off again. Only fastboot mode stays on. How can i unbrick my phone??? Plz help. No worries. The phone turns off because it doesn't receive any signal from the PC - many people make the mistake of connecting the device in flashmode first, and then they start the flashtool etc.
Instead, load the flashtool first, go to flashmode, select a complete/full stock ftf for your phone (whichever version you want, but do double check if the ftf has kernel.sin file in it) and press the flash button. Only once you get the pop up with the animation telling you to connect the phone in flash mode, connect the phone in flashmode (volume - button pressed when connecting cable). As soon as you connect the phone, the flashtool will start its magic and your phone won't turn off.
if you can go in cwm wipe system then you will only be stuck on sony logo then use this guide http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPPWRXcsz7g.....it will work because this same happened to me and i fixed it with this method!

Hello everyone..i tryed to install new ROM but i installed only this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326515 .. i reboot phone and now cant power on ... If i connect charger red led flashing for 2-3 sec. and nothing happening.. if i pres Power+ Vol UP a blue led under meniu button lights up for few second and after that nothing happened... if i press Power+ Vol Down a green color lights .. and same ...nothing happened..
If i unplug charger and try to open .. only vibrate one time and nothing happening..
Any solution ? i tryed to charge it ..nothing..
P.S : i used a multimetre and battery have 3.66V
Friend, its KERNEL! I hope you used fastboot to flash the boot.img.
90% sure it isnt bricked.
Try this, switch on your device and simulaniously press upper key( dont connect to any cable)you get in cwm mode.
Check this and let me know .
What do you mean with upper key? Volume up ?
if yes i press that and for 1 sec blue led lights and vibrate.. after that nothing happened..i pressed around 5-10 sec.
And i flashed in CWM..
Well what i can see is that you have flash jelly bean kernal and you have ics stock!
When you power on the device all you can see is xperia logo and black screen right?
Power on device and continously press volume up button!
Tell me if you can enter cwm!

you are on locked bootloader right ??? you installed a custom kernel and hence u got brick ....... use Sony update service with phone switched off and plug it in when SUS asks you to ... it'll install the stock firmware and kernel and your phone will be okay.........
Simple words:-
1)download SUS
2)Run SUS
3)select phone
4)it'll give instructions how to connect phone in flashmode, do that.
5)it'll say you already have latest firmware , press repair or reinstall button.
6)wait.
7)You are done
Man, i can't entry in flashmode..the phone dosn't respont to any commands :-s
bootloader is locked or unlocked????
you have CWM installed, means your your bootloader is unlocked...i guess....
using flashtool just flash stock .FTF firmware......
i have CWM on it.. but cant entry ..i have 1 backup made with CWM but phone dosn`t respond ..

Asus Zenfone 5 wont turn on

Hi, i have problem with zenfone 5. My brother tried to install new android using wireless update in phone(auto update function). So the update downloaded just fine and phone was turned off like its gonna install update but never turned on after this, i tried everything but cant turn it on. I cant even get asus logo, absolutly nothing. When i turn it on charger led dosent show up, tried to enter droidmode(vol up + power) for 10min but nothing. My first guess will be dead MBO but its really weird that this is happen in same time the update was, so probably is something software related.

Xperia Z Ultra Stuck on Sony screen

my xperia device is stuck on the sony logo. wont pass that part. doesn't go into flashmode or fastboot, nothing. what can I do plz I need help. cant use flashmode on the pc as the computer never recognizes the phone bcuz it doesn't go into fastboot mode.
If your phone even starts, then fastboot and flashmode should work just fine. What's the last thing you did before it wouldn't boot?
1. Hold VOL UP while plugging it in the USB on your computer. The LED should get blue
2. Either use fastboot through command-line or use QuickIMG to boot a custom kernel with recovery.
3. Flash or restore a ROM

Do the following exactly as outlined.
1- with the phone DISCONNECTED from your pc or charger, hold the power and up buttons until it vibrates and turns off.
2- open the flashtool and select an ftf to flash, and wait for the message that asks you to connect the phone in flash mode.
3- the phone must still be off. Hold the down button and connect the phone to the usb port in the pc. The flashing will start.
I tried that it goes back to the sony logo.

How did you try to unroot? It's weird if you don't have working fastboot or flashmode, and without those, you're pretty much screwed. Those two should work even if you screw up big-time, like flashing a wrong kernel, but you must have done something weird if they stopped working?
And let me get this straight, you are pressing and HOLDING the volume buttons when you plug it to your computer, right? Make sure that the device is completely off by pressing and holding POWER + VOL UP. It'll vibrate a couple of times. Note that you're not supposed to be connected to the computer, since it'll then just boot again.
Then press and HOLD VOL UP for fastboot (blue LED), OR VOL DOWN for flashmode (green LED flashing shortly)
You probably already know these steps, but we have to make it absolutely certain that it's a hardware issue, and not an issue with the thing you do

I was going to flash the stock rom using flashtool right but everytime i tried to put the phone into fastboot mode it would go to the battery icon. At this point the phone was working fine. But no fastboot mode at all. Then i factory erased the phone through twrp. After that it doesnt boot up. Just sony logo no led lights. Even if i do vol up or down. Straight to the sony logo. Vol up plus power button, vibrates couple of times. I redo the process and it goes back to the sony logo.

The thing is that the screen shouldn't power on when you enter fastboot. The only thing that should go on is the blue LED. I don't use TWRP, and I don't know how it wipes stuff and if it only deletes user data, or if it formats the system. If it does the latter, then it literally wipes the system partition, making it empty, so if you ever format the system, you should flash a new ROM ASAP. A little late for that now though, but I'm still not convinced that fastboot isn't working.
ONE LAST TIME
NOTE: The device should be disconnected from the computer.
1. Turn the device OFF by holding and pressing the POWER button and VOL UP. It should be disconnected from the computer by now. Got it? Nice.
2. Plug the USB-cable in the device first, since it's easier to plug it into the computer. Do not plug it into the computer yet. Only the Ultra.
3. Now HOLD VOL UP. Just hold it in.
4. Stick the USB cable, which is already inside your Ultra, to your computer WHILE still holding VOL UP.
5. The blue LED above the screen should light up now. The display should not power on or anything else. The blue LED is the only thing that should turn on.
Still nothing?

Check whether the drivers have been properly installed in ur PC. If u can't get into flashmode try another system to flash the ftf. Procedure hold volume down while connecting the usb to plug. U will see a green led blink.

Oh! You probably haven't installed fastboot on your computer. Download and install, and try again.

Wooooohoooo phones alive jajaja. Thankssss. Though i got some more questions. First time i unlocked boatloader i was told to backup my TA files. what do i do with those now? I just flashed a stock c6806 unbranded rom. When i try to update the phone through settings it says it couldn't verify the update. i retried the process through sony companion app, and it says my phone is modded so it wont do anything.

The TA partition is where your DRM keys are. It's a good idea to backup those keys in case you want to revert to complete stock in the future, or when you need to send it in for repairs. Unlocking the bootloader will remove the keys, but since your device was - weirdly enough, already bootloader unlocked, I don't think you even had DRM keys to start with, which is again, very weird.
No biggie though. Gone is gone. The reason why PC Companion told you that it's been modified, is because you're rooted, and it knows it, so you'll have to unroot before you update. That's only if you're updating through official channels, but you have a second alternative; Flashtool. It allows you to flash stock Sony ROMs, or FTF-files.
But you're saying that you flashed a stock 6806 ROM now, and that's what? 5.0.2? Why don't you just download the .368-update (Android 5.1.1)? Then you'll be on the latest version.

I did unlock bootloader myself, TA file were backup. My phone is the 6806 model. The only ftf file i found on xda with a working link was for 4.2 jellybean. I just restored my TA files am going to reflash that stock rom and see what it says now.
