zenwatch 2 and iPhone limitations - Asus ZenWatch 2

hi,
i bought my Zenwatch 2(1.63' Model) a few days back and i am not very happy with what i am learning, specially when using it with an iPhone 5S.
i have done my research before buying it, countless YouTube videos and forums.
so straight to the point, i have noticed a few options that are missing in the settings menu(Zenwatch 2)
1. there is no WiFi or Bluetooth option. i have seen it in some of the review videos on YouTube.
2. i had read somewhere that there is a battery option in the settings menu and there is an option to enable/disable the battery saver option. i cant seem to find this option on my Zenwatch 2.
3. the phone app or contacts option on the Zenwatch 2 is missing or is it restricted to android OS only??
4. there are some additional apps that come standard with the watch(from the YouTube review videos), i cant seem to remember them, but not present in the watch i am using.
i am actually considering returning the watch back.
pls help.

hi.
1) There is a WiFi and Bluetooth option. What version is your watch? Already updated to MM?
2) Not on my watch. What did you read exactly? In the developer options there is something like this.
3) Dont know, no iphone.
4) What apps or what video? Apps are installed through the phone, perhaps the watch in the video was not clean?

2 (simples) questions about android?

Hi all,
So I installed this custom rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13086258#post13086258
I really like it and it suits my needs in terms of stability and battery lifetime. Nevertheless I got two small doubts that may or may not have to do with this rom in particular. Here they come:
1 - The ROM does not come with a youtube app, but i managed to instal it from elsewhere since it wasnt availabe on the market. Problem is that most videos don't play, especially VEVO ones... I always get an error saying: Error while loading the movie. This happens via 3G and Wifi connections.
2 - How can I keep the 3G data connection permanently on? When phone goes to standby it will shutdown the connection after a few minutes. In consequence I am not able to keep my IM+ alive and running. How can I resolve this?
Cheers
Answer to question 1-
I'm not too sure to be honest, I never really use YouTube as it canes my data, but it might have something to do with the frames-per-second rate, the hero's a bit poor in fps performance. Maybe someone who knows more can answer
Answer to question -2
Goto settings/accounts and sync/ and enable background data and auto sync, this should help, it did for me anyway.
But be warned, your battery and data might take a beating!
Hope this helps.
Vevo tend to default to HD videos, so that could be the issue.
I've noticed most of the videos that don't play on my Hero when tried on my Galaxy S all tend to be high res ones.
Or you could have a very useful "Justin Beiber" blocker running
Edit- Just tried it on the wifes Galaxy 5 and they show on that as well, I am clearly talking out of my arse lol
the rom that you are using is a 2.1 rom and youtube hq doesnt work on that rom for some reason, so you will have problems with all hq youtube vids

No mate, the ROM is a 2.2. It's the sense version that is 2.1, but they are a different thing.

1 I think Vevo ones are not available on YouTube mobile due to the labels not allowing it. Think about it, who would buy music then if they could just stream it from YouTube?
2 Not sure about this one. Sorry. Maybe try go into Wi-fi Settings > Advanced > Set the Wi-Fi policy to never. (I know it's Wi-Fi but it might make a difference.)

[q] root / apps / widgets / updates

Hi everyone,
Coming from a Nexus 1 that I never felt the need to root, I have PLENTY OF QUESTIONS as listed below:
1. Instructions to ROOT: I can't find any proper video (googled it, youtubed it and everything was long and complicated).
>> Is there out here a single app or webpage or x that will provide a solution as simple and user friendly as "Slide to jailbreak" as it existed on the iPhone for a while?
2. Effects of root: Will rooting the phone prevent me from automatically getting firmware updates and so on?
>> If yes, Will I have to basically factory reset the phone everytimes an update arrive OR wait for a zip to appear here (and update the phone manually, etc.)
3. Root powers: Will root give me the abilty to use ALL the widgets from the stock launcher while using another launcher?
>> I switched to LauncherPro but the calendar and running apps widgets (which are cool). If root is not the solution for this, where can I obtain the apk of these widgets? (no pure calendar is not equivalent).
4. Music application lock screen widgets. Is there any way to port the stock lockscreen widget for music app to another application, namely player pro which is superior to the stock player imho
5. I heard of an app for rooted SGS2 that allows to play tegra2 configured game. is this working properly? Is it stable?
6. Gallery app keeps all the tumbnails, any other solution than .nomedia?
7. I want the option to record calls within the phone app, I hear it is possible, what is it that need to do to implement this?
8. is there a way to replace the stock battery indicator by %?
THANKS A LOT IN ADVANCE FOR ALL YOUR WONDERFUL ANSWERS!!!

Lost connection on Pebble (2.9v) issues with 5.0.1 (gooh edition N4 Port)

Hello,
Been using that rom for some time now, but still no luck with my Pebble. I realy use it, and get used to it. Now it almost 75% of the time is disconected. I tried everything. Previously on 4.4.2 I had no issues. But I wanted the new 5.0
I tried to write there in the gooh topic, but nonone seemed to care about it. and with the speed of 20 posts per hour, my question was fast lost in the conversation. Maybe someone else from the comunity had simmilar issue? Any advice will be greatly apriciated.

I have been having pebble connectivity issues, and I believe it's just rom compatibility because it's been an issue with all lollipop roms for me. This is what I did to fix the issues.
1. Uninstall the pebble app
2. Unpair the watch on both the phone and the watch
3. Install the app
4. Login and follow the instructions, pairing the watch using the app.
5. Make sure that notifications are turned on for it and that it is not greenfield.
6. Go in to settings, device, accessibility, make sure it's on
7. Go in to settings, sounds and notifications, notification access, enable it.
8. If a watch face is not updating (weather), switch to another face and then switch back.
I have found that restoring the app via Titanium Backup/Rom Toolbox, creates some issues too. Installing the app fresh from the market seems to be the most reliable.

Acctually I had it installed from TitBack!, also I'm not sure about Accessibility option (if it was or not) for now it works, but I'll see for how long.
Another issue is (was before too) that any notification are coming always doubled. That's sick

I am glad it works for you, for now!
This not a ROM, but a kernel issue. Had a similar problem with my Xiaomi Mi Fitness Band. It would only connect reliably after I flashed Civato 3.5 kernel.

Moto 360 sport AW2.0 comments

just thought that we could use a thread for the sport users and comments on the AW2 update, considering how poorly viewed the Moto 360 v2 update was, and how many sport users would definitely profit from viewpoints of those who have the update.
I updated yesterday, and to be honest I was pretty excited. First things first, how the update went; while many people had difficulties updating, I had no such problem with mine. I enabled the always on while charging, got to the update screen, put it on the charger, and let it go( all done through the slow but not too slow Bluetooth connection). It downloaded, installed, and rebooted (which took longer than I anticipated). The setup process was quick and easy for me, and once I got setup I was off. The first thing I did was slide left for my apps, only to remember that this function is reserved for the watch faces now. I actually enjoy this feature, as it took ages to change a face on AW1.5( I can now put my favorite faces in a line, instead of setting the top three faces over and over until they were definitely in my recents). Next, I opened my app menu. This is a great feature now. The ability to put the apps I actually use at the top is very nice. Speaking of apps, let me touch on those. The play store CAN eat up some battery, so you might want to watch it(zing). It wasn't until I got AW2 that I realized that most wear apps are designed now with 2.0 in mind. The usability is increased, there are more options, and the apps are just..... Better. There's not an easy way to explain it without experiencing it.
Overall, I've been very pleased with this update. It seems more stable than AW1.5, not to mention more modern. I do have to say that the battery is going to die faster, but only if you're using it extensively. My watch battery currently is in a better standard than my phone's (but with a LG K10 what can you do?). Today, with activities including looking at my agenda, texting people back with the keyboard (which is so accurate I might DIE), looking through apps on the play store, and checking notifications, my battery is at 30%, and that's with 13 hours. Notifications, when set to high, work completely fine for me and I enjoy the new look greatly. all of the problems faced by the gen2 users I cannot find a existence of. I would recommend this update, as it seems that Motorola took the time they spent denying us our update and used it to fix the problems the gen 2 users had.
I agree - I love this update! With AW 2 the sport feels like a new watch. Sure, accessing apps is different than before ( no more swipe left) but that's fine - easy too adjust.
Battery life is pretty much the same as before for me and love the new look for the app drawer and notifications.
*Edited for corrections
Just got the update, I'll install it later and report back, I'm excited.
Update: okay I installed it a couple days ago and so far it's pretty smooth, better than before. Battery life is hard to tell yet but so far it's good, I'll update on that later. The OS has a ton of new features that were previously only on phones such as disabling apps and turning off Bluetooth which is cool. Typing on the tiny keyboard and with drawing is actually fairly easy. So far I'm loving the update, not a bad thing to say yet besides getting used to the new UI and it's various changes like opening the apps list with the button and scrolling fast up will scroll through the top notification (scrolling has more inertia basically). Oh, and the security patch is April 1, 2017.
Good post @Nobodyslight . I'm enjoying it too although I'm not using it quite as much as you are. I'll need to explore some more but right now I'm doing the Android O thing. One question is on notifications set to high. I haven't done it but I do like that once you view an on screen noti then it doesn't appear again unless you swipe up. You don't even have to swipe it away like before. With it set to high vs normal does that feature go away? In other words will the notification say on top of the face until you dismiss it?

It does stay, but you can swipe down to go back to the watch face. But I think under the app settings in settings you can change which apps can get that priority; so if you wanted only some apps to show up like that, you could arrange it that way

Thanks, but not seeing individual permissions. Not a big deal because I really don't want any app noti to stay on top. Good to know that is what high priority does. I'll stay away.
As for battery, I just hade a gps running (Strava) for the past almost 4 hours and I still have 50% left. I'll give it a quick charge now but that's really not too bad.
Mine was stuck on the 'continue setup on your phone' screen and I stupidly de-registered it with my phone. I can't even hard reset cause if I go onto recovery mode I can't swipe up or down. So it's pretty much dead any ideas?
Continuing here from where I reported in on the other thread; Went to bed with 100% battery and started sleep tracking from the watch on Sleep with Android. Put the watch into Theater mode and got a solid 6 hours sleep. Woke up to 50% battery. On Wear 1.5 I was waking up to 73~75%. Some watch owners that use Sleep are reporting that heart rate monitoring during sleep tracking was broken after upgrading to 2.0, while mine was so much more accurate than the last 3 months.
Overall, now that I've got vibration with my notifications, I've got hope for 2.0, battery issues aside. Overall the watch is much more responsive. The animations are smooth. The keyboard, I'm honestly shocked it works this well. Speech to text, 2.0 stomps the old 1.5.
I'm liking it ? We waited for a more polished version I think. I like my watch again.

You can try to factory reset without enter recovery mode:
1) from the watch Settings --> System --> Unpair and reset
or
2) from the phone, using Android Wear and selecting "unpair the watch"

Can't enter settings during the initial setup and I disconnected the watch but the watch stays hanging on the setup screen. I tried entering receiver to hard reset it but when I swipe up or down on the screen I can't change the option. I can only reboot
For the life of me, I can't figure out how to shuffle my running playlist since upgrading to AW2.0.
Has anyone figured out how to make this work yet?
But the battery life is not as AW 1.5 BTW which watchfaces do you use for complications support?

Google feed is not working AT ALL in the moto 360 sport.
I was a beta tester of google app, but leave the beta to test is that make the trick, but again a no-go.
Any advice would be highly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

The Google fees isn't as it is in the app. The only things that'll pop up in there is weather, and some location tidbits(assuming you have location on on your phone and watch, and you allow Google to give you location based cards)
I just purchased 2 of the 360 sport and first thing I did was upgrade them to 2.0. I originally had a Gear 2 Neo that was hacked to run android 1.5 on it. My wife had the Gear fit 2. So that is what I compare my experience to.
Here are my impressions so far:
Battery life seems pretty bad. I barely get a full day out of it. My Neo would easily go 2 days and my wife's fit 2 would go 3 - 4.
The screen doesn't respond as I would expect. It seems to not know exactly which way I want to swipe all the time.
Step counter is incredibly inaccurate. both watches consistently seem to only catch 50% of the steps. My wife is sending hers back for this reason.
Even though I have enabled "OK Google" in the settings, it never responds. Only way I can get speech recognition to work is hold down the menu button.
I have had mine randomly reboot twice. My Gear 2 Neo would do this occasionally but it was somewhat expected being hacked to run wear.
Not sure if I should send mine back and purchase a Gear s2. I did some Googling and these issues seem to be very common. Anyone have experience with the Gear S2 that can give me a comparison? Really like the 2.0 interface and the Moto360 is a nice watch, if these bugs were worked out.

Help, Netflix plays audio, but not video

Hi all,
I just got the Mediapad M5 8.4 yesterday. Model SHT-W09, running android 8.0.0, EMUI SHT-W09 8.0.0.151 (C432). I am not rooted, or have an unlocked boot loader. When I loaded Netflix last night, I was able to get sound and subtitles from a movie, but no video showed up. What was strange, is that when I hit the progress bar to skip ahead in the movie, the thumbnail showing the current frame showed.... but not the video.
I googled around, found a couple of suggestions, but nothing worked.
- I tried different movies/shows.
- I am using bluetooth headphones (thinking of the wifi slowdown), but it doesn't work with the headphones connected or not.
- I have tried clearing the data/cache, and downloading an older version of the app.
- I believe color correction under accessibility is off.
- Also tried downloading an episode.
- Tried a different internet connection (at work).
Any other ideas to fix this?

Not hugely helpful, I'm afraid, but I have the same model, build and EMUI version as you, I've just tested Netflix and it's working fine. I'm using version 6.7.2 build 28755 from the Play Store. I'm based in the UK, if that makes any odds. Does this happen with both streaming and downloaded movies? Anything reported from the Netflix "Check network" or "Internet speed test" options in the "Diagnostics" section of "App Settings"?

I forgot to mention in the post, I did try downloading an episode, and I also tried it from my connection at work. Same things sadly.
Tried the diagnostics also, they were fine.
I'll edit the original post with these.
Do you have any other video streaming accounts, such as Amazon Prime Video, that you can try in other apps? Can you play local video media with, say, MX Player or VNC?
Install DRM Info (it's free) and see if it tells you anything. What's the Widevine security level that it reports?

Thanks so much for the help. I don't have any other subscription things. YouTube works just fine though.
Local video plays just fine in MX Player at 1280x720 resolution (I know it's not super high, but it's what I had on hand).
I don't really know what Widevine is, but the DRM info says "Google Widevine Modular DRM: Supported, Desciption: Widevine CDM, Version 1.0, Security level: L1"
Widevine is a Google DRM technology that is effectively used by the Netflix app to decide whether certain video streams can be displayed on your device. The fact that DRM Info reports "L1" means all SHOULD be well, and that there's no negative impact from any tampering with the device.
I'm stumped, I'm afraid mate. A factory reset might seem extreme, but worth a try, especially if the tab is relatively new and you haven't spent hours customising it. You could do worse than to stick Titanium Backup on there, do a backup, factory reset and if that still doesn't work, you can at least restore the backup. Factory reset is pretty straight forward:
1. Power off the M5
2. Hold Volume Up and Power until the device restarts
3. Use the volume buttons to select "Wipe Data/Factory Reset" and press Power to select
4. Select "Reboot System Now" with the Power button to reset the device

Hm I thought Titanium Backup only worked on rooted phones, no? I have it for Nexus 7, but it would be cool if it worked for the M5 as well even if I'm not rooted.
Will factory reset tonight. Sad, I spent most of the day customizing it like i like it, but that's ok.
Yes, sorry, you're right about Titanium. But hey, a factory reset gives you an opportunity to customise again! Twice the fun!
Bizzare! I factory reset, and it still doesn't have video!

I wonder if there's a fault with the device then?! That makes no sense at all. Can it easily be returned for a replacement?

It might be. I tried another streaming service called Hoopla, and the same thing was happening there too.
I don't think returns would be easy, it came from China, but I'll try. Before I send it off, is there any diagnostics I can run? Also, how do I know if I got a knock off or something?
If I go into Netflix , Menu > App Settings > About, I see a bunch of stuff related to the device:
Version: 6.7.2 (code 28755), OS API: 26
Model: SHT-W09
PL:1 ChannelId: <blah blah>
Build: SHT-W09 8.0.0.151(C432)
ESN: NFANDROID1-PRV-T-HUWAWESHT-W09-<blah blah>
Does yours look similar? If it's similar, I can only assume it's "legit".
Another thing to try is run Antutu Benchmark. It has a "Device Verification" feature that can see if there's anything odd going on.
There's also an app out there called Antutu Video Tester. Google to find the apk. Be interesting to see what it says about supported video formats.

Thanks for the reply.
Netflix> settings> about give me all the same results as you.
Antutu benchmark tells me everything matches and that it's an authentic tablet. Cpu-z tells me the same thing as well. So I'd assume what I got is the real thing.
And with the antutu video tester the tablet got a score of 990... Which comparatively pretty awesome. It played 20/30 perfectly, 7 were missing audio, and 3 wmv files didn't play.
This is super strange. There must be a weird setting enabled somewhere.
Also tried turning off my live wallpaper, and turned off eye comfort mode.
Edit: I can chromecast to my TV from Netflix from this tablet no problem. The issue is when I watch it in the app.

Presumably all that was turned off anyway, after you did the factory reset? After you reset, was the first thing you did install Netflix and test it?

You're awesome. You are correct! When I factory reset I automatically reinstalled my apps after. I did a factory reset again. But this time I set up as new, without any of my apps installed... It worked!
I tracked it down to a single app. Frustrating because the app is so dumb. It's an app that blacks out my screen corners to give the corners a round feel. I guess it was drawing over netflix and messing it up. So stupid of me. Should have thought of that sooner. I've had this app since my nexus 7 and it always worked fine.
Oh well, that's an easy fix. Thank you so much for your help!
