Questions about the Huawei Honor 5x - Honor 5X Questions & Answers

Hello,
I recently bought this phone and absolutely love it but couldn't find the answer these two questions:
1. I know the phone doesn't have Corning glass on it. How fickle is the screen. Like will it not even survive a fall from 2-3 feet? If so what would be a good tempered glass protector for this phone? Preferrably a thin one.
2. How do I make the 'Hangouts Dialer' the default app for calling? Every time I click a phone number it goes to the Dialer and then from there it only gives me an option to go through my carrier?

Get the nillkin one. I had 3 and this one is far the best. Its really clear, 2wipes and fingerprints are gone. It also had a waterproof coating. Handy in the Rain. Phone glass is as hard as gorilla glas. I think its 7h there are some video's about it.

Are you saying the original glass on the Phone is 7h hard or Nilkin is 7h? If so I don't really want to put any tempered glass protector on it. How thick are they anyway in comparison to the current screen protector?

Screen is 7h protector is 9h its 0.3mm thick. You wont see the nillkin

Havent managed to break the screen yet.

The screen is as strong as gorilla glass.... jerryrig on youtube performed the scratch test and the screen scratched the same level as any flagship.... I don't have any screen protector on and my phone is working flawlessly

Wow! This is great. I just assumed the glass underneath the factory installed screen protector was not very durable. I'm probably going to take my off now and rock it au-natural

Hello salilsurendran,
I'd love to answer your two questions!
The Honor 5X actually comes with a transparency screen protector when you purchase the device. We can't speak on if the device will survive a 2-3 feet drop, but we do recommend being as cautious as possible. Huawei doesn't warrant any physical damage.
You are able to access the dialing feature in "Hangouts" by opening the app, but I'm not sure what you mean by making it your default app for calling? We advise giving our Honor Support Team a call at 1-844-524-6667 so we may provide you with further assistance. (ED)

[Q] How many people use a screen protector?

I've just bought a used (UK) S2 on eBay, and am wondering whether I should bother with a screen protector for it. From other posts it seems that there are mixed opinions on the effectiveness of Gorilla glass for preventing scratches (particularly from sand), so I wondered how many people bother with a screen protector?
As per previous replies to the question .
Always as Gorilla Glass can get scratched and proof is in the scratched protector but not the screen .
jje
Gorilla Glass...has got that real nice feel to it...hence no protectors...after 2 months of usages no scratches...just got a coloured frontal screen protector on today though...solely for the visual aspects...rather than protections but nice never the less.
I use protectors as sand will scratch G glass. I will give G glass credit though... It is a hell of a lot more scratch resistant than standard screen coatings.

I don't. I also don't like how the glass feels. But that's because I love my iPod's screen, just how it feels.

a layer of film never hurts. at least something gets in the way before it scratches the actual glass screen.
Definately add a screen protector!

Lots of people have complained that after using a screen protector the phone is no longer responding to touches very well (this can be fixed with a root app though).
There is no real need at all for the screen to have a protector, it is the toughest glass around and there are plenty of videos on youtube of people taking hunting knifes and other sharp objects to their screen with no visible marks being left. Sure it will shatter if it lands on a sharp point but it is not the sort of glass that scratches easily like other phones, removing the need for a screen protector.
Plus the glass is fairly smudge resistant and very smooth to touch.
I fail to see a need.
3 months w/o a screen protector and there isn't a single scratch on my device.
I had a Nexus One with no case for 17 months, which I predominantly kept in my trouser pocket. Not one single scratch on the glass but had various nicks and dents in the metal frame. Have had my gs2 for about 3 months and already have four big scratches on the screen. So my advice, but a protector.

2 months here, zero scratches.
Start using it without any protector. Trust and experience the good feel of the Gorilla Glass. And by any chance if you see any slightest roughness (rare though) appearing... apply a protector.

if that happens, u are too late already.
that's why u should at least use a protector, to at least prevent that
3 months no protection but im still paronoid i think i need on so whats the best one on the market
I have the SGP Glas just for those crazy moments when something goes wrong. Already busted a Ultra Crystal screen protector with a bad scratch.
Always use protection. Even if it turns out to be a waste, it's better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

You've had a white S2 for 3 months?
I use a screen protector and my screen is responsive and have no probs at all. good idea to use i think
I like the gorilla glass but it does seem to be a fingerprint magnet... At least with a screen protector it doesn't pick up those damn fingerprints...
My opinion is that anything that can put a scratch on gorilla glass will have no trouble cutting through a VERY thin layer of film you have applied on top of the gorilla glass making it's 'protection' void.
However, I'm still too paranoid not to use a protector.... :S
I suggest to use one.. I have no problem with touch sensitivity problem.. Better safe than sorry..

Steinheil Ultra Fine Screen Protector

I'm disappointed with the grainy look of the Moshi iVisor AG and I want to get a Steinheil.
Would this be a good price?

I am pretty sure I bought mine from Amazon which saved me a few bucks on shipping. I highly recommend this product. It is clear and pretty smooth. In retrospect, I may get the oleophobic version next.
I got the Oleophobic version the other day. Ordered from Amazon to save on shipping since I'm a Prime member. Absolutely love this protector. You can't even tell that its on the phone unless you look closely at it. Its smooth, clear, no rainbow affect, finger prints hardly show and if they do wipe away with ease. Great protector. One side note, they send you two in the package. Nice surprise...
In my opinion, Steinheil makes the best screen protector on the market. I've been using them for years on all my devices.

Do you know if the Oleophobic has the same clarity as the Ultra Clear? I dont want to get anything that will cloud the screen.
It's a great screen protector, I bought the Oleophobic version and you cannot tell that it's even there.
Using the Oleophobic.
Noticeably more friction than the stock screen.
Does appear to make finger oils more apparent than stock screen.
Easy to wipe off.
Does cover the Front facing camera and sensor ports.
I highly suspect the protector would affect front camera performance, although I have not checked this.
Cutout for the earpiece only.
Two pieces in the package, with cloth and scraper. No alcohol wipes.
As always, apply in a clean, dust-free environment.
I'd call it above average.

I am using the Ultra Crystal Clear and I am very happy with it. It did not affect the clarity of the screen before and after installing it. I chose it for the clarity and for the scratch protection.
Unless someone has used or installed both versions on their phone, I think it will hard to judge what is better in terms of clarity. HTH.
Quotes from the SGP web site :
(Sorry I can't still post URL, so if you go to their sgpstore.com site and under cell phone > Samsung SGS2 AT&T)
Ultra Crystal and Ultra Oleophobic screen protectors are both clear type where it absolutely doesn't affect the screen image quality.
Ultra Crystal has glass-like surface coating with the best resistance against scratches.
Ultra Oleophobic has an oil resistant coating to resist oil and other contaminants.
Ultra Crystal : Ultimate Clarity
• Ultra Crystal : 25% Thicker than previous model
• Hard coated for Scratches and Scuffs Proof
• High Quality Optical Enhancement Film
• Ultimate Clarity surface hardness : 4H
Ultra Oleophobic : Oil-Resistance
• Oleophobic coating : Oil-resistance coating
• it protects from staining of oils, cosmetics and other contaminations
• High Quality Optical Enhancement Film
• Good Surface Hardness : 3H

I agree with you on the grainy aspect of the Moshi iVisor screen protector.
I was almost going to purchase it at the AT&T store when two of the AT&T sales guys showed me their Infuse phones one with the iVisor installed and one without. And that's when I decided to go with Steinheil instead. The iVisor on that phone made his screen so matte or so grainy.
Obviously the iVisor has other advantages (scratch resistant, reusable) but not the clarity one for me.
I'm looking to get a screen protector for my galaxy s2 as well. i've heard a lot of horror stories with screen protectors and leaving residue/ruining the screen so I'm a little hesitant in choosing one.
I know this phone has gorilla glass but it never hurt to protect it.
Is the ultra oleophobic worth the 13.99? Can someone confirm the front-facing camera quality since the protector covers it?
Or should i settle for those $1-3 ones on ebay?

I just got my olephobic, it's well worth the $14. Front facing cam is not affected by it, picture quality is beautiful. It blocks oils, so you can easily wipe them off, for that fresh feeling.

I really like sgp ... the only complaint if.I had to find one is that they seem to carry some charge that attracts.lint/dust... never had problems with dust when pulling my phone out of my pocket on the stock screen... but after installing the protector, it always comes out with a fair amount of dust ...
Again, I still really like it.... great clarity...

I use sgp screen protectors on all of my devices and i love them. I have tried all of them but the only one that i use and wikll ever use on this device is the ultra crystal because its the only one that doesnt take away from the shininess of this screen. The screen on this phone is by far the best on the market so i want to keep it that way.
Well I guess the comments answer my questions. I'm not too worried about protection, but just want something that will show less fingerprints.
Im planning to get the oleophobic one aswell but I had a question about if I should use this screen protector that came with this gel case I purchased off eBay. the case is nice and all and it came with an ordinary protector, but because I've never applied a screen protector on any phone before - I was wondering should i apply it? I'm very obsessive about the screen on my galaxy s2 and don't know if removing a screen protector incase i dont like it will damage the screen or anything? there is no adhesive or other solution that came with it, its one of those that u just apply it on after removing covers on both sides

Screen Protectors

Hey Guys,
New ATT LTE Note owner here coming from an iPhone that i've used for 4+ years. Anyhow, does anyone have any good recommendations on screen protectors? I've been reading the other threads, but they just dont give me enough info. I ordered the SGP Ultra Oleophobic screen protector, wondering what it looks like and if anyone can post pics of theirs? That would be awesome. Also does anyone know where I can get a replacement back housing that is leathery like the Blackberry Bold 9000?
A screen protector is a screen protector. Doesn't matter about what device you put it on. So, just search for screen protector and you will get your answer. Another thread is not necessary. Also, the Note has Gorilla Glass and you really don't need a screen protector. I understand this is personal preference, though.

You do need it if you are going to be around sand which will easily scratch the screen if you get one speck on your finger.
It has happened before and will happen again.
To protect investment I highly advice to get a screen protector put on the screen. There's been few threads talking about their Note has been scratched. SGP is a good brand, one of the members here suggested it and I replaced my Zagg screen with it, it feels more natural than Zagg, although I still think Zagg is more durable.
As for leathery back cover, no idea. Seidio is coming out w/ their own set of protective case. Their product has never failed me. Great protection.
OK, I'm not one to often recommended $35 screen protectors, but this is the first time I've been able to bear any sp for more than a day. I did get 2 tiny specs under it that are noticeable with the screen off in bright light, but I can't even tell an sp is on when I'm using it.

Why this? Jeez
i got the zagg screen protector from best buy with my reward card for 6 bucks. It is the one with the wet install. Surprisingly the install was quite easy and painless. I was thoroughly impressed. It is not like a one shot deal when you install it. You can move the screen protector around until it is right. Just spray more water whenever it is needed. ( and no I dont work for Zagg..lol)
Zagg is the worst screen protector, ever, period.
It sucks even more with our S-Pen since Zagg has a "rubbery" feeling or texture on it. Since the whole point of the screen protector is to protect the screen from being scratched and mimic the feeling of the bare glass, your best bet is the regular thin plastic screen protectors. That is, unless, you are willing to get the glass screen protectors.
But then if you like it then that's all that matters.

Gorilla Glass is Scratch Resistant, NOT Scratch Proof, Scratch Proof glass does NOT exist. Even if it GG was as tough as diamonds, the protectors provide some extra protection for your screen in the case of drops, bumps, etc. Me, I don't want to take any chances.

+1, but he is technically right that you don't NEED one. It seems like the odds are in favor of no scratches or minimal scratches. I live in Florida and there's a lot of sand. I'd rather take a knife to my GG than sand... I always use a screen protector.
SGP all the way get the ultra crystal.

i ordered a screen protector x 5 for just under 5 bucks from eBay. I replace every 6 months.
Sadly there is no sand where I live. (I am jealous of you who have sand!) And, I can understand that a sandy environment is a good reason to protect the device more.
The reason I chimed in was to protest yet another thread about "what screen protector is the best". Then I added my opinion.
I agree that SGP are very good.
SGP Glass
The SGP glass screen protector is the best I used two others and the s-pen left marks all over them the SGP Glass was a bit pricey but well worth it looks perfect clear as glass and hard so s-pen will not mark it up I will never go back to a film form now on i'll use an SGP glass protector on all my phones

i-Croo edge to edge TPU Screen protectors (OCD Approved)

Hey guys it's my first post on XDA. I hope this will be helpful for people who are looking for a full coverage screen protector for their brand new Galaxy S7.
First of all, as you all know that the S7 screen has an even worse curve than the S6. Therefore, it has been a nightmare for me to find a screen protector that covers the whole screen without lifting on the edges. ( major OCD User)
I got tired of tempered glass and PET cuz they don't cover the full screen or don't fully stick on the edges so I decided to go with TPU.
i-croo Screen protectors are flexible TPU material that will curve with your screen and stick completely no matter how curvy the edge of the screen is. The cut outs are extremely precise and coverage is great ( i would say about 98% of the screen). The clarity is supered ( tried Yootech S P which cover the whole screen but makes screen looks grainy and has rainbow effect). You can't even tell there is a screen protector on unless u pay very close attention. These screen protectors provide much better protection against scratches or drop compared to PET.
The screen protectors comes with everything you would find with other screen protectors. However, these come with an installation tool ( which i did not use cuz i prefer not having too much stuff near the phone that has dust particles which can be attract by the static charge when you peel the screen protector off), but it think it might be helpful for those who are not skilled at aligning screen protector. The best part is it is a dry installation so you can use dust removal sticker to get rid of dust particle if there is any under the screen. ( Can't tell you how much i hate wet installation which collects tons of dust and fingerprints). In addition, they are very thoughtful and included a hard squeegee that is cover with cloth tape so you would not scratch your screen protector.
The reviews of these on Amazon are not great but trust me this is the best solution for now until they can make curved tempered glass that fully adhere and not just the outside edge like Coral Glass). It works great with Ringke slim case ( will update with 3 more cases soon: Spigen rugged, BLIQ Flex Pro Espresso, and VRS Design-High Pro Shield )
In summary.
PROs:
- Prefect fit, full coverage
- Extremely clear ( almost invisible)
- Fully stick
- better protection than PET
- Dry installation
- thoughtful presentation
Cons.
-might be hard for some to install
- little bit hard to peel off ( tip: use a small dust removal sticker to hold the corner of the screen protector as you peel it off to prevent getting fingerprint under it, also makes it much easier to peel)
- not sure if it will work with all cases
OCD user score ( 4.5/5)
PS: I think it better to get these protectors without the Installation tool if you're skilled at installing them, save a dollar
I cant post images links due to having less than 10 post, you can see the images from my amazon review under Thetechnerd. It would be great if someone can help me post the images here ( plz pm me)
PLz search B01D0XEF3Q from Amazon search box. Thanks all
Here's the link http://www.amazon.com/Galaxy-Protec...01D0XEF3Q/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
Some reviews have been saying that it scratches really easily. Also does it attract fingerprints/oil easily? Thanks
I did not see any noticeable scratch after 4 days of using it, only tiny micro scratches that you have to put under the light and look at the phone from an angle but maybe because I take good care of my stuffs. So I tested scratching the screen protector with a sim removal tool. After running the pointy end of the sim removal tool a few times on the phone surface, I was like "Holly crap, the screen protector is full of scratches". I then use a micro fiber cloth to rub it off, and "WOW" all of those scratches magically disappeared from the surface of the screen protector, and it is looking like new. Therefore, i believe that these screen protector are self-healing.
About smudges and fingerprints, I think it gets dirty at the same rate as any other PET screen protector. However, I do think that TPU screen protector are harder to clean. It requires more effort to clean than PET and and tempered glass. I had to rub it almost twice as many times as I did with PET. Oh well, for the clarity and protection it provides, it doesn't bother me that much.

I am really close to ordering this product since I am sick and tired of trying to find a tempered glass that does the job. Well, I take that back. I know that coral guard one or whatever apparently does the job but it is like 30 bucks.
Is the TPU cover in between regular film protector and tempered glass as far as hardness and protection? How is the feel of the protector, more glass or film?

So I installed the screen protector yesterday and first of all I have to say it is a great fit. This is truly an edge to edge protector. Went on fairly easy, let it dry over night and I see no bubbles or peeling. As far as the material goes I'd say it's somewhere in between PET and those self healing films. This particular one is very clear with a small amount of texture (sticky feel), and under some lighting there is a slight rainbow effect. I'm used to glass screen protectors but this is a great compromise unless your willing to pay $30 for the full coverage ones. I'm also pretty picky about what goes on my phone and I honest give this a 5/5 for quality and price.

Yeah I ordered a two pack thank God. The first one was so bubbly that I took it off. Installed the second one and it still is bubbly but I tried to smooth it out. It has this weird indentation because of smoothing it out but whatever.
It's easier to tolerates than the horrible halo effect.

I had some weird stuff going on after the install but as it dried up it slowly went away. I install paint protection films on cars and this is very similar. Usually I let my customers know it takes about 2 days to fully dry, so hopefully yours is still in the drying phase.
I could not agree more though that damn halo effect on the regular protectors just kills the beauty of the phone.

Wait drying?
Mine was a dry install. Did you use liquid anyway?

I guess I forgot to mention that. Lol I did mine as a wet install, figured it would be cleaner.

I'm probably going to return mine. The edges keep lifting with my spigen rugged protector.

Actually, it looks like the manufacturer is sending me another unit since I had issues with these. Any advice on putting these things on without causing any sort of surface damage? I can see indentations when viewing my protector at certain lighting.
I know you did a wet install but I don't think I want to go that route. Maybe I just need to be easier on the protector when I am pushing the bubbles out?
What is the difference in this and every other wet install protector that is not PET, but more that rubbery material?
Has anyone tried this screen protector with the Tech21 Frame case?

Wet install is best with a slightly soapy water solution and since our phones are water resistant its a no brainer. Only other suggestion is as you said, go easy when using the squeegee.

I haven't used to many wet install protectors but I'm really liking this one, even though it's not sold as a wet install. Like I said earlier it's a great compromise for the fit, not too rubbery and I haven't noticed any reduced screen resolution.

Some people have reported issues with certain cases, if your case has a lip that hugs the bezels it might cause peeling. I'm using the calicase ultra thin case with no issues.

lol don't do wet install cuz it freaking sucks. I recorded how I install my, will edit and post it soon. This is not even 30% as difficult as the G-color GS7 back protector, hell my skills are no joke and I had to give up on that one cuz it's literally impossible to install it without bubble.
Would it be the same http://www.ebay.com/itm/icroo-1-1-3...hash=item4d42230422:m:mh6L4r4ScGVKkUqkvj8WDEg ?
UPDATE:
I just scroll the page and seams to be it is the same.

Alright I am gonna give the wet install a shot.
What was your dilution with soap and water? Just a drop in a cup of water and mix it around? Did you use a sprayer or just use your hands?
Be careful with the soapy water. Soap lowers the surface tension of water and can get into the phone. Read that someone washed their phone and ruined it because of the soap.

Screen Protector

What screen protector are you going for?
Lots of unknown and untested brands out there. I'm looking for thet tempered glass protection out there that doesn't break the bank.
No Idea, let's see how good the preapplied Protector is. On my prior P9 Lite it lasted 5 Month before i saw some little Scratches.

True, now you mention it the pre-applied screen protector is a brilliant thing to have. It saves us all those early super dread moments while we get accustomed to a larger, slipper and more fragile device ( I come from an all metal, smaller yer sturdier HTC 10). But, as you say it's only a short fix, I'd like to have replacement at the ready for when the scratches do evidently appear.
I think use the preapplied as long as it works. In 5-6 Months the Market will be flooded with good working Screen Protectors, Cases etc.

I'm currently looking at this https://www.ultimateshield.co.uk/collections/huawei-p20-pro
I have used ultimate shield before and they've worked well. It's out of stock now. The page is mostly a placeholder until the phone is released. So hopefully it'll be available soon.
Mobile fun have official accessories listed https://www.mobilefun.co.uk/huawei/p20-pro
Anybody have news if rhinoshield is gonna release for the P20 pro?
I purchased this screen protector here in the UK as I didn't want a mis-alignment of the tinted ones to affect the front camera or sensors: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07BLQHY5X
It is really good. I did use the glue that comes with it to bond the glass together to the screen to fill in the air gaps, does a great job. It is very light as I accidentally touched some of it and put some on the screen that I simply wiped off. i.e. not like super glue!
Also there are 2 of each item inside just incase or for future.

How is it holding up I heard that glue comes off

Initially when I applied it there were slight air gaps all the way round, but much better than no glue of about half a centimetre gap. However overnight all air gaps disappeared and it's perfectly flat right now. No issues so far, really loving it. Obviously lets see in a months time how it goes.
When this comes into stock:

Alternatively contact them to enquire on availability.
6 months on and I'm yet to find a screen protector that I'm entirely happy with.
I've tried these via Amazon:
G-Color Huawei P20 Pro Screen Protector, [Updated Version] 9H Hardness Tempered Glass
OMOTON Huawei P20 Pro Screen Protector - Full Coverage Tempered Glass Screen Protector - [
Ibywind 2PCS Pack Huawei P20 Pro Screen Protector,**Bubble Free Installation Applicator:
G-Color is the best of the bad bunch as it's full adhesive. The issue I have is that it seems to scratch more easily than others and the black surround is slightly wider than that on the device so when viewing white pages you notice that some of the screens is slightly hidden under the edge of the screen protector.
Anyone got any other recommendations?
I use nillkin tempered glass 0.2mm. With my UAG plasma, Ringke Fusion X and Spigen rugged armor case.
Pros: No airlifts, No fingerprint smudges
Cons: Easily chips on the sides.
Already on my 2nd nillkin tempered glass.
hth.
Just bought this two from Aliexpress. The front one is HydroGel screen protector. It is very soft plastic but covers the entire screen. They said the plastic self-healing. True enough, the surface feels like the back of my old LG G Flex 2 (which also have the self-healing coating). I try to make few scratches and they slowly disappeared. As you can see in the first attachment, it is almost invisible and covered all the corners and curves.
For the back, it is transparent 3D carbon fiber vinyl. Really pleased how it turns out.

Applied correctly despite instructions being really unclear and still ended up with plenty of air bubbles trapped.

I have the phone for about 10 months and I still have the pre applied screen protector. It began to deattach after I dropped it few times on the floor, otherwise it would have lasted forever, I suppose
