I'm using the Samsung Tab S2 (SM-T710 variant) and I've been testing out the SD card encryption feature.
When I've encrypted the SD (Transend 32GB) card, I get confirmation it's been encrypted. I see the progress bar etc as it encrypts the files on the card.
But, if I put the card in a card reader and connect it to my PC, all the files on the card are visible and editable.
If I put the card in my Note 4, it thinks the card is encrypted.
The tablet is rooted stock ROM 6.01 MM, with Xposed and other Mods installed.
But, even disabling them and rebooting doesn't help.
And I've re-flashed the "clean install" backup I created when I first installed Marshmallow n the tablet.
Does encryption only work in Android's own little world or should it be secure on all platforms?
If Android's encryption is useless, can anyone recommend any 3rd party software that works, either on Android or with Android/PC? (I've tried "Eds" in the past on a Fuse enabled custom ROM, with TrueCrypt/Veracrypt and it doesn't work for me).
Thank you
Very interesting. Did you try to update your android version ?
Did you find any solution to your problem ?

Thanks for the reply.
I don't think there's been an update from 6.01 for the Tab S2, if there has been, I've not updated.
No, I gave up on the idea. I couldn't get it to work at all and I couldn't find any 3rd party software either.
Well, this is a huge drawback...
I am having a very similar problem. I got a Galaxy Note 3. I went through the process of encrypting it - it didn't boot after that. Then I decided to install this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...hwiz-marshmallow-note-3-t3349306/post69109669
It managed to encrypt the phone, but the part for encrypting the SD card is simply not there. I don't see a three-dots menu from where I can choose if to join the SD card to the internal storage or not. I choose to format the card. It says it'll make it secure, but actually it only puts a few Android folders and on another phone I can see, read and play a file which I've put there!
This is really embarrassing, I've been fighting with encryption for 1 week!
Also, I tried to find a software, which would do that. EDS sounds promising, but when I launch it, it just hangs
How can the quality of software be sooooo poor! I'm very very disappointed
I will now try another ROM(s)

I am having issues with external SD cards. I have 16 and 32 gb cards and every 2-5 days they become corrupted/damaged/blank. I have to format them and copy my backup files over at least once per week. I have had no luck finding a good solution for the SD card problems. I notice that my SD card will randomly mount / media scan / antivirus SD card scan when I unlock my screen. I assume this is causing the problems. I want to leave my external SD card UNmounted until i want to use it, then i will manually mount it under settings. My problem is when i leave it unmounted, Android will automatically mount it later when my screen is off. How do i change this so that the external SD will ONLY mount when i manually mount it in settings?
Not sure. Sounds like you just need to leave the card out or maybe get rid of that antivirus

the antivirus isn't the problem, randomly whenever the screen is turned on, the micro SD re-mounts (it somehow unmounted when the screen was off)... when it re-mounts Android automatically does a media scan and my AV scans it like it just connected... over time the SD card fails or becomes corrupted so I have to format. I'm looking for a way to DISABLE Android from automatically mounting an external micro SD... I assume people on this forum are knowledgeable on Android coding... disabling this function shouldn't be that hard...
Backup your micro sd. Wipe it clean. Make sure you format it with fat32 and not exfat. Put sd back in. Profit.
i have tried that several times.... perhaps i need to re-phrase the question....
Can someone please copy and paste the code within Android that automatically mounts an external SD card when it is inserted while the phone is on. Please also include the file name and directory. Thanks!
Well the problem is it's clearly either a hardware problem in the phone or that sd card. Wouldn't it be less of a pain to diagnose that and just try several other sd cards, then you wouldn't even have the issue anymore.
i met same problem here, how did you get this right?
I am in the same situation please provide a fix if you got it fixed

What ROM are you on? Do you have this device? Some newer ROMs have the ability to control the media scanner running at boot, which likely was the cause for these older issues.
An example of a current ROM having this is ResurrectionRemix.

Stock will not have it, you will need to install a custom ROM that includes the Media Scanner setting (there are KK ROMs that support it). Look around in the Development forum and see if one is to your liking; if the ROM has the feature they will often include it in the first post. The Ported forum also has much to choose, including the ROM I noted in my reply above yours.
As we all know vanilla marshmallow provides the feature to use a micro SD card AS system memory. But since i havent Found it on the mm beta update i was wondering if anyone did. Maybe it is missing due the fact that mm is still in beta. What do you think?
They will maybe add it in later beta versions or final, i don't know if they will
I'm also confused about this. The option to move apps to sd has been removed. You can set the sd card as default storage location and when I downloaded music from my nas my only option was a location I hadn't seen before: /storage/32FD-3596 which turned out to be the sd card.
I haven't looked for hidden folders so I'm not sure if apps are partly or wholly stored there but I doubt it as I only have 5.7gb free of 10.4gb.
It looks like the common internal/sd storage hasn't been implemented. If storage is integrated at some point however, surely this will make occasionally using the 2nd slot with a Sim card impossible as removing the sd card would break apps fully or partially stored there.
it seems to me that Huawei has not implemented MM "adoptable storage" functions
(a little explanation of "adoptable storage" can be found here http://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2015/10/android-6-0-marshmallow-thoroughly-reviewed/7/)
i can't find that option in the newer firmware for my honor 7
very sad
If they wont implement it they would spare the most valuable feature in mm .. If so id consider selling my h7 and get another phone.. Lets hope they will include it in the next build
Can anyone confirm moving apps to SD doesn't work?

So if I have under Android 5 apps moved to SD, they will be automatically moved to the device system partition again along with the Android M update?
Sounds either like a preparation step for a later upgrade including this new feature or like a limitation - does Android M still support apps to SD if the external storage isn't merges with the internal?
Hello all,
Since I got my phone I put in a brand new Evo+ 64GB SD card in it.
Once or more a day the SD card unmounts it self.
I can still see it in my settings and in my filemanagers but I can no longer access it.
Also all my data stored on there is no longer accessible thru apps.
Since I use XInternalSD alot of data of my apps is stored there.
Remounting it in TWRP also has no effect.
The only thing that fixes it is to open the tray and close it again.
This is my first android phone so I have little to no knowledge about what I can do.
Google also didn't give me clear options on what to try.
Maybe a good thing to mention as well is that I'm running CM 12.1 ROM since the day I got this phone,
so i dont really have experience with the stock rom.
I have read about large SD cards not mounting properly and that they have to be reformatted.
If this is the case could someone explain me a little better regarding the why and how?
Thanks alot for your time!
I have the same problem with the same card actually. Maybe the card doesn't work with the phone? No
I had similar issues using XInternalSD on CM12.1.
Normally a reboot will bring the SD card back.
I wasn't able to tick the setting to use for all apps without issues although it works fine on OOS...

a reboot doesn't fix the issue for me.
Since I wrote this article I only had it once again.
And that was when I installed ES file explorer and tried to run it.
It crashed on startup and then made my SD unavailable.
Since I dont have this device for long yet and was installing all kinds of stuff when this was occuring all the time.
I assume it has something to do with some apps messing things up.
I recently purchased this beast of a budget phone, and I am pleasantly surprised! Seeing as how this is a rather capable budget phone (and a ZTE to boot), I am hoping someone can help find a root method!
I know ZTE phones (at least older ones) have a special boot mode, known as disemmcwp, which boots the device into a less secure mode which allows system writing through certain root programs.
I also noticed that this device supports adb side loading from recovery, which is usually locked down, and if I'm not mistaken, this can also be used to exploit system writing if used properly.
Thank you if you can help! This phone is wonderful, but its specs are sorely let down by its usage of Marshmallow instead of Nougat.
The z986dl is now on Nougat. I still would like to get into bootloader myself. I know how to get to recovery mode but that's it.

I find that hard to believe, as the ZTE Max Blue (aka Z986DL) is sold only at Wal-Mart stores under the Straight Talk name - which means that, unless you're mistaken, I should be getting said update as well. A software update query along with a quick google search shows no signs of this model ever receiving an actual nougat update.
Really, no one's rooted this yet? Come on people I miss lucky patcher!

Help root!
Yes PLEASE some one root this.. i need to save apps on my SD card and cant until root, i am running out of space and cant make the sd card internal backup.. 16GB device and 32GB SD card. i am at 15 GB on device! cant get updates due to no space.. have to delete things.. This sucks
You can always format an SD card to an internal drive, then you should be able to move stuff to the SD card.
I've the same phone also on marshmallow, I just recently decided that I need more storage for it. I went on the hunt to find ways to moves apps to the sd card for android phones in general, I did as the tutorials said but got to the parts that said to tap move to sd card and didn't see that button on my phone, so I went on to see how to format the sd card as internal storage. The tutorials assumed that after you tap format that it would pull up a screen that says something like format as internal storage, but mine says format as external storage. Seeing as that is the case I went on to see how to root it and came to this thread to see that there is no method of rooting yet.
I saw that soozin81 said to format the sd card as internal...well like I said, "The tutorials assumed that after you tap format that it would pull up a screen that says something like format as internal storage, but mine says format as external storage."

I know this is quite the necro bumo, but is there any update at all on rooting this phone at all??? also according to everything I have read, this phone runs on nougat now however Im still on android 6 and OTA says Im current, is there a way to manually download the ROM and put it on the hard way?
cant i get the firmware for this phone pls
Basically, for the past few months I have been using Resurrection Remix 6.1 I think, but had to revert to stock to put in a Network Unlock Code as it wouldn't go through with the custom ROM. I flashed stock, removed root, unlocked my phone and re-installed TWRP but decided to go for my old ROM Lineage 13 as RR seemed like it was sucking battery when it didn't need it. Upon looking at my SD card, I realised it does not show in TWRP nor Android and it shows in Win10, but hangs the PC a little, but I can still view files and copy them over. I cannot however add files, not format the card. I even removed it's read only attributes if it had any and used GParted to try and force a format, but this card is refusing.
I did read somewhere, (can't find it now though for some reason) that if cards were set as adopted/internal storage on a custom ROM, that they may be encrypted and locked to that ROM. The only way would be to use it with that ROM. That does not work. I tried to reinstall RR and it's the same there too.
Have I screwed the card up? It's a Samsung Evo 32gb HC MicroSD if that helps. TIA

I have. I tried everything listed here and it still won't work or allow me to format. Strange thing is it was working fine before and it's a fairly new card.
