Random shut off and bricked? - LG G5 Questions & Answers

I bought a g5 from a wholesaler and I was browsing facebook when the phone froze then restarted and kept freezing on the lg logo on boot up and seemed to try to boot back up but finally turned off and wouldn't boot back up nor charge or anything. Anyone familiar with this?

Before anyone suggest anything. Have you tried ro remove the battery, put the charger part back again without the battery. Then pressand hold the power button for about 20-50 seconds. Then put the battery back in the phone and try to turn it on? Also, have you try to access recovery mode or download mode? And also, can you connect your phone to the computer to see if you can verify that when you connect the phone the computer does detect it?

Joseguillen1994 I didn't have a computer to look this stuff up as I'm not at home or even near a usable computer. I was browsing facebook and then bam it froze then wouldn't power back on.

Is this a common problem with this phone or something? I see very few cases of this so ill just ask now.

It is a very uncommon problem. Among the few peoples who have reported that the phone is bricked is because they flashed something that wasnt meant to be flash in their phones. For instace, a person in xda went ahead to flash something meant to be used only for the h850. Then his phone began to boot and then it wouldnt turn on anymore. But seems like this is not your case. Did you try to remove the battery and all i said?

Also, whenever you get near any computer, please connect the LG G5 and see whether the device appears in device manager

I will try that and I've seen a few people report to be using the phone with no problems and then it freezes and will not power back on. So I'm not to sure what's going on here. I did all of that and nothing. I returned to the seller and he swapped me and with this one I get random reboots after the phone freezing for a moment before resetting back to the lg logo and then the AT&T logo before starting back up.

okay. this happened to me with my father's LG G3. i was downloading a gps app to compare signals with another phone i have, not lg branded and i put the lg g3 in my pocket after i tested the app . when i took the phone out of my pocket it was rebooting and even if i did wipe the system, cache and dalvik , and then install the custom rom back again the phone would allow me to install any rom. so, i had an spare battery and i decided to try it as a last resource. when i tried the spare battery it did allow me to install the custom roms again without the need to wipe everything. so, another thing you might want to consider is a defective battery. tomorrow i will try to drain the energy of the battery was causing the issue in the LG g3, then im going to recharge it once again to see if it fix the problem. so, this is another possibility for your problem.

Well here's the thing. When I went to swap with the seller, we tested the battery with the new lg g5. And it powered right on. And what's odd is that when we put it back into the defective g5, wouldn't power on. So powered on one but not the other.

Hahaha thats why i said possibility. In my situation it was the battery for the g3. I assume you already tried to use the phone without installing any user apps, right? By the way. Can you turn on the new one? If you can manage to pass the boot screen, you might go to the power menu and press to boot in safe mode. (just to make sure it isnt any applications)

This has happened to me several times
I have used LG phones for the last 10 months. With my first one, an LG G4, it was just fine for around 7 months, and then I experienced the exact screen-freeze and reboot issue you mentioned. I remove the battery and re-insert it, and it works again. Then, a week later, GONE. Bricked. I call AT&T, and they send me a replacement. This one lasts just over a month, until the exact same issue occurs. Now I'm more than a little miffed. I call AT&T, and they accept my request for a new LG G5. I'm super-excited with this brand new beast in my hands. Three days into my usage, BAM! Screen freeze, reboot, repeat. I'm now into my fourth LG device, this latest one a replacement LG G5 from AT&T. Fingers crossed this one turns out okay!

Phone got hard bricked(?)

So I got my phone yesterday. It was running on 4.1.1 iirc(not sure, it was a version of JB though), device told me it needed an update but I didn't have the time to update.
Now today, as I'm returning home I'm playing a game when the phone gets really hot. Now I don't mean normal warm, almost unbearable to touch the bottom third of the phone for longer than a couple of seconds.
I closed all the apps and let the phone rest to cool down. Couple minutes later I want to turn the screen on to check the time and it just doesn't respond. I remove the battery, try turning it back on, no response.
I tried charging it, thinking the battery might have suddenly died(even though it was at 20%) but the red charging light doesn't even show up. I'm not sure whether it's the sudden death issue or something else.
Will I be able to fix this by myself, or will I have to get the phone to a service center? I just got it so naturally I don't want to lose it, but I've read that even a usb jib won't get a device like this in download mode.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: Phone is normal international version, I didn't root, using stock rom. Basically I didn't do anything except install apps and set up some accounts. The phone doesn't react to the vol down+menu+power combination, no matter in which order I hold the buttons.
Sudden death, Samsung will change the motherboard for free
Thanks. Any idea on how long it might take to get the phone back? Will I have to bring it to the store where I got it(not a Samsung service center) or send it to Samsung?
Take it to store. The repair should last a few weeks or so.

[Q] Having some problems need some advice please?

Okay so first off I love my One. It's great, best phone I've had.
I'm having a few problems recently and I need to know a plan of action here.
Main problem is that I CONSTANTLY go into NO SIM mode and lose my service when the phone's screen is off. then it takes forever to get it back.
I thought it might have been because of the battery defender I got when it was free for app of the day but I uninstalled and factory reset and nope it still constantly happens.
Second problem is that when I am talking the other person sounds like a robot and I have to hang up and try the call again to see if it will work. Sometimes it's find sometimes it's just awful.
Third I have a dead pixel and it drives me up the wall!!!
Okay so I have had the phone since mid April so I'm not sure what I should do?
My phone is with Telus. Locked, Stock everything is normal.
Thanks in advance!

Well for the first take out the SIM card and clean with an eraser. I've been having the no SIM problem about a week ago, and after cleaning the SIM contacts, it hasn't happened since.
Second, I don't know, I don't have that problem.
Third download dead pixel fixer from the PlayStore, and run it a couple of times to see if it can fix your dead pixel issues. Hope I helped at all.

Phone rando self-bricked last night?

Last night the phone randomly restarted out of nowhere mid-text message with my friend. It kept restarting in a loop then I pulled the battery and tried it again and I did get the phone going enough to send one text then it crashed again. Now it wont start at all. It's stuck on the bootloader unlocked screen. Help?
I'm running twrp and android 5 from siraltus
Same has happened on 17 of my company v10s.
Should be a recall on these phones. LG knows there is a problem.
You got the curse, I did too, if there's no Phys. damage and you are qualified, you can request an overnight wnty replacement... I just got my second V10, hopefully it wont die on me too until T-Mo gets a decent device for me to jump to...
Same happened to mine..
Did anyone notice seemingly random vibrations before the phone died like that? I keep thinking mine is vibrating for no reason every now and then. Maybe mine will be next to go lol.

Did you just take an update for Superuser? I noticed that when updates for superuser comes out alot of phones get bricked. My lg g4 just did it also so got to use unbrick procedure.

Here is the link for the lg g4 procedure which helped me out.

Mine bricked yesterday 2 weeks out of warranty. 99 dollars for a replacement and about 2 weeks without the phone through square trade. Last LG phone for me. Clearly they know there is a problem. Unfortunately I"m still stuck in my Jump on demand contract with this thing and don't want to jump right now. Maybe to the S8. Mine was vibrating randomly too sometimes although I don't know if that had anything to do with it. Completely stock phone. First phone I haven't rooted in years.

[HELP] Strange bootloop on Stock Nougat :(

Yesterday I was quietly watching youtube, i got the 15% battery warning, i touched ok and kept watching until my phone suddenly crashed. I got not battery empty warning and proper shut down..
I plugged in and saw I had 5% battery.
But now it isn't booting... After the splash screen, it loads for some minutes on the LG Logo, and then I see the white "Android is starting" screen. the percentage always starts from 48%. when that's over it goes back to the LG boot animation and comes back again to "Android is starting" screen.
I tried to reflash my Nougat kdz w/ uppercut (LG UP), but it is still not working.
I tried to do a factory reset (power + vol down), but i can't even format my phone! I see a short "erasing" screen for 1 sec and boots again to the LG Logo.
I suspect that my motherboard fried... Can anyone help me?
I'm not rooted nor have unlocked bootloader whatsoever.

nope it flashed successfully, no errors at all, but still, not booting.
i suspect it's a hardware defect somewhere, or the motherboard going nuts.
I want to be able to recover all my data on internal storage at least...

Doubt it matter but for ****s and giggles you try other versions of kdz? Could be hardware as you said. I remember reading somewhere someone having similar problem. The guy tried different battery and for whatever reason it worked. If I was you I'd just ship the paper weight to lg.
Far as your internal data, it's probably screwed sadly. Cloud backup every phone you get my friend!

Strange that it didn't fix the system errors when flashing the same rom again...

6P is Dead after 2 Months

Well, I maybe should have listened. So I had just flashed a ROM on my 6P, set a few things up, it was charged 98%, I downloaded an app, checked an e-mail, then walked away. Then after 30 minutes I went to the phone to check e-mail, and it was dead. I mean, wouldn't boot in any way complete black screen. Hooked up to computer, nothing. No buttons will boot the device.
So ridiculous....a $500 paper weight. Now I have to find a decent Verizon phone with good development to buy.
Well, had fun for 2 months!
Bye Nexus 6P forums!
OK - I held volume down button and power button for almost 3 minutes and it finally booted. This never happened before. Scary, but if this happens to you take note! :silly:
So my phone is unusable and I have to find a new Verizon phone that has good development. Good luck to me - guess I'll have to sacrifice my unlimited data I've had for many years for a phone with a new carrier so I can root it with good development. I hate Verizon.

Unusable how? You just said it booted.
Is your bootloader unlocked? Can you get into bootloader mode? If so, you could try flashing a factory image.
Don't give up so quickly. Your issues might be related to the ROM or something else you installed.
Jeez... Jump to conclusions much? Can we get more info please?

I almost want to say just send it to me because I could almost guarantee I could help get it booted. If when you plug it in to your computer does the computer recognise it at all? Edl mode? Can you enter bootloader or anything?
Since your 6P is only 2 months old, why not use the warranty?

Thanks guys. I was able to revive it again and flashed a different ROM. It would not boot in any way - plugged into my computer, bootloader mode, nothing. Then it went into a bootloop. Finally I got it to boot and flashed an older ROM after transferring the appropriate vendor image to internal from my computer. I'm nervous it will happen again. I will switch to a new ROM now and hopefully won't see this happen again. Very frustrating evening.

did that too. But nothing seems to work.It doesn't even get noticed by pc.
Would you recommend a battery swap.
I remember freaking out when that happened to me. My 6P was dead for like 20 minutes. I kept plugging it in, holding power and volume, etc. I got so mad I banged it against something and created a small dent near the power button, which I lived with for the rest of the year until I bought my OP5T.
Hope you were able to fix it. I kept trying and trying to resuscitate it and finally it booted. :good:
