Redmi note 3 pro cm 13 - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi guys, I am considering purchasing this phone but im not really fond of the miui. I wanted to know if the cm13 is stable and has all the features (like fingerprint sensor working) or multiwindow as well?
Also if I unlock the bootloader, can I return the phone to stock and get ota updates? Thanks

Official Cyanogenmod is stable BUT doesn't have fingerprint reader (YET), only the unofficial Cyanogenmod supports the fingerprint, but there are developers/modders who are working on the fingerprint reader.
The unoffiicial cm locks your bootloader, which is not a bad thing, but if you brick your device, you will be f..ed.
So if I would be you, I'd buy this phone, it is very powerul, had no problem with it, the only con is the camera in low light.
MIUI is not bad I have to say, on my older phone I said cyanogen ftw, and wtf is this MIUI, but when I started using it, I also started loving it, so basically it's a win-win for me.

How many people are still using OxygenOS

I am not a big fan of the OS, i loved CM but none of the ROMs out there at the moment are any good. Is anyone else still using OOS or am I an odd man out
I'm using it because of horrible battery life on every CM baesd roms.
And I don't like how hydrogen works (app and memory management).

Same for me! And I like to be able to disable a sim card like in Oxygen! In cm13 that option is not available.

I'm only still on it because of the fingerprint scanner. Once the API is complete I'm moving straight over to CM 13. I can deal with the lack of SIM card control but the fingerprint scanner is a must.

This.
But I like the idea of @matitorres07 and his Sensed Hydrogen. I hope he will continue with that after final release of Hydrogen, or even maybe switches to CM
Waiting for the cyanogen build with all the sensors working...not sure when the same is expected.

I am also on Oxygen. I would maybe try CM13, once it would be official but I am happy with Oxygen OS with a different Kernel. Different kernel and a different launcher and everything is perfect
Waiting for Fingerprint Sensor support on cm13, all other "bugs", i can happily live with

So true... for me life is a full circle, After staying on oxygen forever, switched to Skydragon OOS and then took plunge to SD H2Os as I noted it was much more actively being used by its author. Then shifted to CM13 but not happy with all these ROMS as they buggy and have some or the other limitation... though I desperately want a stable CM13 ROM with all sensors working... hate the lack of official support for many the famous ROMS... but love my OPT
Just because I want a full working Phone, stay un OOS.
I'm on OOS coz of fingerprint scanner ...
Why should I be on other Roms without fingerprint support when I have a scanner in my phone ...
H2O marshmallow 6.0 is much faster and stable than OOS.. and it's finger print sensor work much quicker
Now that CM13 has fingerprint.. I'm no sure what else is missing from it now.. But there's just something about it.. It still feels 'clunky' to me.. My opinion and experience of course! But for now I'll stick with Oxygen... Can't wait for CM13 though!!!

I have this same argument Can't wait for oos with mm
See this all the time.. BS.. Oxygen and even more so with the last update. Is a solid ROM. Better battery than any cm 13 and smooth not bloted. Yep.. I said it. Oxygen is a good ROM. People are quick to jump on the hate train and 90% of them do it just because..some just don't know better.
i'm still with oxygen because of the finger print sensor

I switched about a month ago. The fps is amazing on CM13, definitely up there with the phones that cost twice as much!
Thank you to all the developers that made this phone even better!!
Many are still on oxygen. Slowly shifting to CM13 now I guess. Let's see what OnePlus brings with M build soon. I'll pick the most stable one as I only have 1 phone which is this as a daily driver

Wheres 8.2?

Well ive been out the loop for a month or so. But a while back Xiaomi were making a big fuss about 8.2 about to come out... Redmi note 4 will get it by the end of feb....
I just got back and put my phone online.... and no new updates. Still running 8.1.4.0...
Was 8.2 pulled?
You have to check if you Rom is xiaomi official one, many shops put some fake miuis so that could be a reason. By the way miui 8.2 is what made me switch to lineage because in miui 8.2 there was a bug in fingerprint sensor where sometimes the unlock wouldn't work and led you to lock screen so you had to press 2 times the fingerprint sensor.

No 8.2 for MTK variant yet.
ohh so its not actually out yet...
I didnt really want to go with a third party rom like lineage as much as im sure its great, simply because I use banking apps... and my one actively blocks root phones.

Lineage OS is for Snapdragon varient, just saying. If you have the Snapdragon varient, they might already have 8.2.
Where did you read that 8.2 will be relased by end of the februar?
Sadly no im on MTK...
And i read it on the MIUI forums when they announced it... They cant be dropping support the MTK already? (though i guess it wouldnt surprise me) Android security patches are... well theres been a few since feb...
Is there any work for lineage to be ported to mtk?
I only rooted my old LG P500 dinosaur because it never go upgraded. Came with Froyo. Before it died, I was running Kitkat omnirom, apps that were not supposed to be on it, quite well. Xposed, of course.
I have gotten two upgrades already on my Note 4. Have 8.1.7. So I am staying stock for now. Want to see Nougat running on this thing, though the UX will not change so much.
BTW, certain setup features that seem to be missing on Miui are still there. One can get them using QuickShortcutMaker. Goodies like app management and setting home launcher, many more listed!
your on 8.1.7? im still on 8.1.4 and the updater still says no new updates... what is going on?
Am i missing something?

Still not sure what's going on with the official updates, as the version available for download from the miui site is 8.0.4.0. There have been a few subsequent versions that went up but were taken down again, due to stability issues (i think). I've seen the official China ROM had an update to 8.2 (still based off marshmallow), but it seems like it needs some further work as it's a bit buggy.

Is it really worth it using a CUSTOM ROM?

Hello, new to XDA and specifically to Android devices. I love the whole experience with my redmi 5 plus. Just wondering why so many people use the lineageOS. I mean is it really worth it? MIUI looks awesome.
1. What's the huge advantage of using a CUSTOM ROM?2. Will I loose the warranty?
3. What's the success rate of flashing a ROM?
Miui is not bad too (better battery life, one hand mode, gestures, etc.) but I'm afraid there will be spy apps preinstalled in there so I have no choice but to flash custom rom. I think you can revert it to MIUI and not lose warranty. If you have past experience 99%. You have to unlock bootloader first then flash twrp and install su after that your choice if you want to flash roms. I forgot exactly what to do but you have to do additional steps after flashing twrp if you don't want that you can also try redwolf though I personally haven't tried that. Good luck
I say if you're satisfied with MIUI as it is, then don't install LineageOS etc.

It depends on the user, some are perfectly fine with MIUI & some still prefer stock android experience like LineageOS, AEX, RR, etc.(It's not just LOS, there's a lot of custom ROMs out there, personally i really don't like LOS coz it's just so plain), Me for example, i've been using MIUI for almost a year on my previous phone Redmi 4 Prime, i really like it that time because its smooth and it has a good battery life. In time i got tired of its UI & i want to try something new. Good thing there's a lot of great Custom ROM devs who maintain these ROMs, a got a good experience with it, at my current situation using a well maintained Custom ROM, i think i'm never going back to MIUI.

It depends on user, I get it.
For me it just feels bad to know that you re not going to get any updates from xiaomi anymore. The only reason I should update in the Future is if Oreo never comes. Nougat is too old.
FYI, the custom ROM that could be said have almost complete functionality is Oreo (LOS or AOSP based).
But per my experience using custom ROM Oreo, battery drain faster than stock miui. I think this is due to the Oreo itself, not sure if later the stock MIUI oreo will have same battery problem or not.
Good thing you will get from those custom ROMs are, almost fully functional Google Camera mod. Mine only have problem with front camera portrait, the rest no problem.
But in stock MIUI, Google Camera mod quite buggy, frequent FC.
Btw, you also could try some MIUI based custom ROM, which should be still Nougat.
You can still get the feel of MIUI with more features, and should be more stable compare with non-MIUI based Nougat custom ROM.

Well according to miui flashing and tooting doesn't void the phone warranty i have personally asked to miui customer care service and they said that flashing or rooting won't cost you your phone's warranty. If you want you can ask tie customer care representative yourself.
Thanks man

Sounds cool. Main reason I post this thread is to hear some users compare cons and plus to miui and custom roms. Thanks
I prefer stock android based roms . They are "light weight" and the phone runs faster in my opinion but miui is more stable because there are much more developers to support it . It's a matter of preference of course but now i use Resurrection Remix which is an amazing rom with a lot of customasation features way more than MIUI for example , also RR is also on Android Oreo with the latest security patch .
MIUI is a way faster and you will get Regular update.
Use MIUI and root it with magisk.

2 things i love custom rom are.
1. ez to change icon size
2. smart notification bar

I have tried all the custom roms and for lineageOS rom..
pro's
- Faster UI than Miui
- way more UI features
- it has an app drawer :silly:
- Battery lasts longer than Miui
- it is anddroid Oreo
- supports VOLTE
- fingerprint reader is faster
- google camera port and camera api2 owns Miui camera
Basically nothing in MIUI is better, it is slow, old and goofy, it is rubbish and if you don't install a custom rom you should give the phone to me to fix it by removing MIUI :victory:

Lol, I see that most users prefer miui for battery performance coz Oreo is draining fast. Anyways, is there a guide for newbies on how to get Google Camera working portrait mode HDR+ step by step?

Yes

Difference?

Can anyone explain to me what the difference is between all those Miui builds? I just got mine (I live in the Netherlands and bought it at a local store) and its running 'MIUI Global 10.1.3.0 stable' from the box.
Should i, or is it worth upgrading or downgrading to something else? However the heck that works? XD
I'm not new in rom hacking, i owned a Moto G5 Plus (Potter) before this one. But this phone is really something different. Lol.

Just live your life. If you notice major problems with the current miui, then consider changing stuff. It's too much of a hassle anyway..

I would suggest just to wait for the 10.2.2.0 update. Its being rolled out now, you should get it any moment.
I, personally, am still at MIUI, only unlocked bootloader and rooted in order to be able to apply Google camera fix patch and to enable notifications in the notch area.
Oh, also installed AdAway to get rid of the ads. This one requires root, too.
Switched to Lawnchair launcher.
Quite happy with it at the moment.
Cheers.

Same reasons, give or take.
Well, first of all, I cannot decide which one. Second, I'm being lazy since have already set all the apps and layout and what not.
Also, xiaomi promised some great miui update in February. Wanna see what they got.

Any custom ROM with face unlock?

Hi, I would like to know if anyone has found a custom ROM, preferably based on Android 10, that has face unlock?
I also like to know if it has IR face unlock and if it is as fast as on miui.
Any recommendations, please?
I'm using stock 10.0.6 and location poland. Should work on all Roms.

I've just installed Havoc Os (android 10), it has face unlock using the IR camera and is fast enough. Hope they won't remove it.
Hi !
It's my first message on XDA so sorry if I mistake things ;(
I'm on EvolutionX since two weeks and I litterally LOVE this ROM. I looked for the best ROM for daily usage, and I love how the UI, the animations are smooth and all that stuff...
Face Unlock has been removed in the last update (4.20.2) but I'm on the previous one (4.20) and it works perfectly ! I assume that the Face Unlock is a bit slower than the one on MIUI, but it still is very fast.
Hope that message helped you !
IR Face Unlock is still available in the 26th April build of crDroid (6.5).
Miui eu
I did not know that! Is it going to be removed? Can you share the link please?
face unlock must be removed. It is less secure than password protect.
