Hi guys, I am considering purchasing this phone but im not really fond of the miui. I wanted to know if the cm13 is stable and has all the features (like fingerprint sensor working) or multiwindow as well?
Also if I unlock the bootloader, can I return the phone to stock and get ota updates? Thanks

Official Cyanogenmod is stable BUT doesn't have fingerprint reader (YET), only the unofficial Cyanogenmod supports the fingerprint, but there are developers/modders who are working on the fingerprint reader.
The unoffiicial cm locks your bootloader, which is not a bad thing, but if you brick your device, you will be f..ed.
So if I would be you, I'd buy this phone, it is very powerul, had no problem with it, the only con is the camera in low light.
MIUI is not bad I have to say, on my older phone I said cyanogen ftw, and wtf is this MIUI, but when I started using it, I also started loving it, so basically it's a win-win for me.
So i will be unlocking my bootloader tomorrow was considering to flash pixel experience 8.1.0 but then i got replies that app crashes are a big issue in that so was wondering if anyone could recommend me a better alternative with VoLTE THANKS!!!
It seems FireHound is pretty good since it's come pre patcher Camera2Api and Gmod.
Otherwise so far I understand are all those roms pretty similar, it just a matter of it's supports some mods you want. Otherwise just grab one you like..

I'm on it, not facing any FCs overall it's great. And super smooth
Hello, new to XDA and specifically to Android devices. I love the whole experience with my redmi 5 plus. Just wondering why so many people use the lineageOS. I mean is it really worth it? MIUI looks awesome.
1. What's the huge advantage of using a CUSTOM ROM?2. Will I loose the warranty?
3. What's the success rate of flashing a ROM?
Miui is not bad too (better battery life, one hand mode, gestures, etc.) but I'm afraid there will be spy apps preinstalled in there so I have no choice but to flash custom rom. I think you can revert it to MIUI and not lose warranty. If you have past experience 99%. You have to unlock bootloader first then flash twrp and install su after that your choice if you want to flash roms. I forgot exactly what to do but you have to do additional steps after flashing twrp if you don't want that you can also try redwolf though I personally haven't tried that. Good luck
I say if you're satisfied with MIUI as it is, then don't install LineageOS etc.

It depends on the user, some are perfectly fine with MIUI & some still prefer stock android experience like LineageOS, AEX, RR, etc.(It's not just LOS, there's a lot of custom ROMs out there, personally i really don't like LOS coz it's just so plain), Me for example, i've been using MIUI for almost a year on my previous phone Redmi 4 Prime, i really like it that time because its smooth and it has a good battery life. In time i got tired of its UI & i want to try something new. Good thing there's a lot of great Custom ROM devs who maintain these ROMs, a got a good experience with it, at my current situation using a well maintained Custom ROM, i think i'm never going back to MIUI.

It depends on user, I get it.
For me it just feels bad to know that you re not going to get any updates from xiaomi anymore. The only reason I should update in the Future is if Oreo never comes. Nougat is too old.
FYI, the custom ROM that could be said have almost complete functionality is Oreo (LOS or AOSP based).
But per my experience using custom ROM Oreo, battery drain faster than stock miui. I think this is due to the Oreo itself, not sure if later the stock MIUI oreo will have same battery problem or not.
Good thing you will get from those custom ROMs are, almost fully functional Google Camera mod. Mine only have problem with front camera portrait, the rest no problem.
But in stock MIUI, Google Camera mod quite buggy, frequent FC.
Btw, you also could try some MIUI based custom ROM, which should be still Nougat.
You can still get the feel of MIUI with more features, and should be more stable compare with non-MIUI based Nougat custom ROM.

Well according to miui flashing and tooting doesn't void the phone warranty i have personally asked to miui customer care service and they said that flashing or rooting won't cost you your phone's warranty. If you want you can ask tie customer care representative yourself.
Thanks man

Sounds cool. Main reason I post this thread is to hear some users compare cons and plus to miui and custom roms. Thanks
I prefer stock android based roms . They are "light weight" and the phone runs faster in my opinion but miui is more stable because there are much more developers to support it . It's a matter of preference of course but now i use Resurrection Remix which is an amazing rom with a lot of customasation features way more than MIUI for example , also RR is also on Android Oreo with the latest security patch .
MIUI is a way faster and you will get Regular update.
Use MIUI and root it with magisk.

2 things i love custom rom are.
1. ez to change icon size
2. smart notification bar

I have tried all the custom roms and for lineageOS rom..
pro's
- Faster UI than Miui
- way more UI features
- it has an app drawer :silly:
- Battery lasts longer than Miui
- it is anddroid Oreo
- supports VOLTE
- fingerprint reader is faster
- google camera port and camera api2 owns Miui camera
Basically nothing in MIUI is better, it is slow, old and goofy, it is rubbish and if you don't install a custom rom you should give the phone to me to fix it by removing MIUI :victory:

Lol, I see that most users prefer miui for battery performance coz Oreo is draining fast. Anyways, is there a guide for newbies on how to get Google Camera working portrait mode HDR+ step by step?
(Without losing warranty or changing ROM)

Yes
I've unlocked my Poco the day it arrived and thanks to @abhishek987 we already had a LOS build waiting.
After flashing any build of LOS or any rom out there, i always felt the haptic feedback of the phone isn't working properly.
When i tap on keyboard, it should be single short-timed vibration but instead i get vibration twice and its very annoying. It works perfectly fine for all MIUI roms but buggy everywhere else.
I have searched nearly the whole forum for Poco but still couldn't find any reference to this issue.
Maybe @abhishek987 can have a look at this.
My Question is:
Am i the only one affected?
If no, then any rom unaffected by this?
Probably the only reason I have to stick with Miui for now.

I have the stock rom. And the keyboard disappears randomly when I'm typing and that's super annoying. I even disabled the vibration in the keyboard because it lags too.

This isn't a huge problem but I found that in Custom ROMs, IR Face Unlock unlocks the device even with eyes closed. This does non happen in stock ROMs.
Is this already been known? Can it be fixed?

Different software algorithms works differently. Custom roms use google face unlock with ir camera while miui use proprietary xiaomi face unlock software. So to fix this we will have to port this which is not easy. You can try if you want to.
