OnePlus X missing "System Update" setting - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi everyone, i bought this phone Yesterday, but when i was looking for how to update it, i couldnt find the "system update" setting.
When i go to setting, then about phone, there isnt anything about system update..... I dont think this is good.... i have the stock rom, and i havent modified nothing, please help, this makes me no sense.

Did you buy it from OnePlus.net? If not, there have been OnePlus phones sold on third party stores with a modified stock ROM. A few people have come here with the same question and it has been a modified ROM. If you're in the US and have OxygenOS you won't have any bloatware installed like CleanMaster.

Okay so first, go to Settings -> About Phone. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap on "Build Number" until it says "You are now a developer!". This allows access to the developer settings. Go to Settings -> Development and turn on "OEM Unlock". This is just to be safe in case something goes wrong.
Next you can download the full official OxygenOS rom from the OnePlus website. Here's the page for the latest version and follow the instructions they've written: http://downloads.oneplus.net/2016-04-20/opx/OnePlus_X_OxygenOS_2.2.1-X/

If they put out more OTA updates then you should be able to install them normally. I do recommend you go into the Developer Settings again and turn on OEM Unlock for safety

Issues with Rooting the Huawei Ascend Mate 2 (HAM 2)

Hello there!
Novice rooter here. I've rooted a Samsung Galaxy S3 and an LG Gpad 2, but this HAM2 is been hard to root and hard to unlock the bootloader.
I was finally able to unlock the bootloader using superbass311's(??) tutorial, which requires you to use the chinese variant of the Huawei website in order to get the code to unlock the bootloader. Once I did that, I was able to flash the Cyanogenmod 12.1 (Android 5.1) on to the system using TWRP.
I thought doing all this would allow root access...but apparently it doesn't. I downloaded SuperSU and root checker, both agree that the phone is not rooted. I've used this guys thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2390491) to try and root, using just about every program listed, but all failed. Yes, I have developer options and debug activated. And yes, I have all the phone drivers and ADB (I had to flash TWRP on...) It seems like most of the rooting programs want the phone to have kitkat4.4.2...is that the problem I'm having??
I would like to install a few programs, like Titanium backup and a CRT animation for screen off, but I can't install them until I have root access. Any advice?? Downgrade to kitkat, then root, then reinstall Cyanogemond 12.1???
Any help would be highly appreciated! Thanks!

This video should help you out its a different phone model but the steps are the same
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ti2XBgrp-FI
Cyanogen is already rooted, no need to flash anything after that. If you enable developer options, you will see root, just select apps. Or apps and adb, whatever you'd like. I went back to the stock ROM so I can't say verbatim. You can also flash the supersu zip from twrp. If you're already unlocked and have a custom recovery, being rooted is just a matter of flashing a rooted ROM (which you have done already) or installing a super user app.

Ah, yes. This was it. So silly...I used like cyanogenmod 6 on my old galaxy S3, and skipped all the way to this one...I don't think this option was even available then. Thanks so much man! You were a huge help with all of this! Was a freakin process to unlock the bootloader, holy cow. Good thing google translate exists!

Do you know if there is an app that exists to get the CRT screen off animation back? Or any screen off animations? I can't seem to find this functionality in CM12.1

I would post an image of it...but the site says I need to post 10 times before I can post a URL...just think of how the old tv's use to turn off, the big tube tv's. If you google CRT off animation, it should be the first video at the top of the search.
Cyanogenmod use to have it...just not aware of any apps that have this, I tried a few out, but they all suck.
I don't think CM does that anymore. Kinda useless trivial thing anyway.

Some would say nice rims on a car would be useless and trivial too...just looks cool man. Not sure why they'd take it out if it was already in...but I'm not a coder/programmer, I just want it back
Meh. CM is changing with the times. Plenty of other ROMs to choose from. Pac. Carbon. Crdroid. Ask a dev and maybe they will add it. It serves no purpose nor changes the function of the phone. Which is why CM doesn't mess with it. Which is why nice wheels aren't usually stock wheels. Lol. Easily added though.

Chinese Adverts on Phone

I am trying to get rid of an annoying Chinese ad page that pops up regularly on my phone from Taobao. I bought the phone from Gearbest who I think are a reputable online retailer and it is a great phone apart from this annoying ad. It does not appear when I am browsing on the internet, but it is regularly on my phone when I open it up making it difficult to answer calls. I do not think a browser Ad Blocker would work and I tried an App Ad finder which did not work. I have also run the Kaspersy app which found nothing. From researching I understand that it must be an app that is bringing up this page, but I cannot find it and I do not want to try and root my phone unless that is the only solution. I am also aware that it could be in the firmware.
An advice would be appreciated and if the only solution is to root the phone confirmation that it can be done and point me in the right direction.
Thanks in advance,
Robert
It appears you have a modified ROM, just flash a clean one and you're good to go.
You can download and flash the latest version of the official ROM from here:

Just use the Google contacts synchr (if you are on the Oxygen version of the OS).
Hi Robert, what ROM are you using?
Can you post the screenshot of the ad?
Is your phone rooted? If yes How did you root the phone?
ROM now updated to latest version.
One problem is that I mistakenly chose software buttons during the set up and cannot see how to change back to the physical buttons?
In settings there is an option which says "Buttons", I think there is the option to disable software buttons

You'll need to turn off FRP Lock.
You do that in Developer Options. First, you'll have to turn on Developer Options, if you haven't already. To turn on Developer Options:
Settings > General > About Device. Click on Build Number several times until you see the message that Developer mode is now turned on.
Now, go back up one level and you should see Developer Options.
On the list of options under Developer Options, make sure the check box next to OEM unlock is set. This will turn off the FRP Lock that you see on the Download screen.
You should be good to go.

Yes, turn on the OEM Unlock. This will allow you to flash a non-stock Rom, and also root your phone. If that is off, then you can only flash stock ROMs and you can't root.

There is no rooting difference between the 900T and the 900T3. The real difference is in the firmware.
To root my 900T3,
1) I copied the SuperSU file to my SD card.
2) I flashed TWRP using ODIN
3) Used TWRP to Install the SuperSU .zip file.
The files you have listed in your original post should work to root your phone.
I had to reflash my firmware the other day, and after doing so I re-rooted my phone.
I used the following:
TWRP 2.8.7
ODIN v3.09
BETA-SuperSu-2.74-2-20160519174328.zip
But, your versions should work.
Rob
Make sure you try it with Odin 3.09, anything later than that doesn't appear to work with the T3.

I don't remember where I got Odin 3.09 from, but it's not hard to find. I thought at first that I wasn't going to be able to root, but it turned out to be an Odin compatibility issue.
Yes, I'm running Nougat now. I ran the stock roms for a while and liked them, but I was looking for a better way of controlling the LED brightness at night and decided to try a CM-based rom. Resurrection Remix seemed to be the best of the bunch, and it turned out to be a LOT better than stock. You probably think your Marshmallow Samsung rom isn't laggy, and neither did I until I tried RR. I like Marshmallow, but the Nougat interface (notifications, etc) is better. What I do now is flash the updates from Samsung to get the latest modem/firmware, then flash or restore the Nougat rom.

If you're going back to Lollipop from either MM or Nougat, you're doing something wrong! Lollipop is the worst Android release to date, imo (I've used every version of Android since 2.3). I'm guessing your complaint is with the LG or Samsung flavours of 6.x & 7.x? In retrospect, it's obvious that Lollipop was a half-baked transition between the excellent KitKat and the even more excellent Marshmallow. I don't know why you can't flash, but some bootloaders are locked (although in your case OEM unlock would seem to suggest otherwise). My T3 doesn't have the OEM unlock option, btw. My very strong suggestion would be to try different versions of Odin & stock firmware until you find a combination that works, followed by flashing some variant of Lineage (I use Resurrection Remix which, judging by your signature, may suit you). I resisted an AOSP-based rom for the longest time because of years of putting up with proprietary driver interface problems when using a non-OEM-based rom, but on the GS5 all those issues appear to have been solved. My phone is more responsive than a GS7 running TW, the battery life is significantly better, I have more customization options than I can shake a stick at, and I'm on the latest version of Android (7.1.2) so I have all the features and security patches. Unless you have some pressing need to use an app that requires the Samsung framework, there's absolutely no good excuse for being on a TW rom.

So the locked bootloader is the culprit? I guess they started locking bootloaders with this T3 model?
I wonder if there is a firmware package that has bootloader removed. Or if 5.1.1 stock can be flashed without flashing bootloader. I suppose that won't work when talking downgrade...

If Arabic doesn't show in language list, click on 3 dots on top right and select All languages.
Scroll down to bottom, you should see Arabic over there.
Hope this helps.
From the Googling of it, it sounds like you followed the directions to change the language. It does say if a language is not supported, it will roll to the next language that is... Which would be English. If you added another language (being mindful of how to be able to go back in and change it back to English later)... For example maybe Spanish, might tell you if it looks only partially changed her due to a Arabic not being guy supported as a language to change into...as it's not built into the firmware?
I wish there were better answers, but sometimes these firmwares are localized, and if you have a USA branded model... It might be mainly localized off English, Spanish, French Canadian (maybe?).
Maybe I'm wrong and someone can give you a better detailed answer!

G930U QD2 Root Use at your own risk
This was done with the ota update and was not factory reset - no data lost

Disable apps-
SecurityLogAgent
com.sec.android.soagent
tethering.automation
com.android.sharedstoragebackup
Diagmonagent

Disable auto updates-
Go into System updates - disable Download updates automatically
Enable developer options-
enable OEM unlock, and USB debugging, turn off Auto update system and verify apps over ADB
Turn on airplane mode
Turn off all lock screen security pin or pattern also delete fingerprints and turn off secure start up
Flash in odin AP slot-
Eng boot s7 Qualcomm all varient for nogaut
S health seems to be working fine with root
For sound mod use a.r.i.s.e audio mod and flash through flashfire confirmed working
******Please post any system apps or bloat ware that you have unistalled using titanium back up to free up memory or if not able to post screens of the apps installed to create the same scenario

Can you detail the process for reactivation after rooting? This information seems to be missing and nothing I've tried for activation seems to work.

I did that already, it didn't work for me.
Edit: Is it necessary to turn on airplane mode for this process? Also, when you say ota does that mean you started with PL2 and took the ota upgrade or was it QD2 flashed through Odin?

Nope, went from a clean flash of PL2, upgraded to QD2 and rooted, but still no activation.

Before. I followed the steps you have in the OP to the letter, disabled the same packages, turned airplane mode on, had everything activated and working before anything else, and after rooting no lines in build prop for cdma options, and APN's go away after trying to manually add them.

I don't have this device and, since there's no Official LineageOS released for this device, I can only assume that you had installed an Unofficial one.
Without knowing which one you used, your best bet is to post this question within the following Unofficial LineageOS 15.1 thread that you had installed on your device for support and guidance.

UNLESS asked to do so, PLEASE don't PM me regarding support. Sent using The ClaRetoX Forum App on my SM-G900V device.
I've made a Flashable zip that enables the trusted face option inside smart lock, I've linked it here
I tried it on Pie and its working just fine, Feel fry to try it for yourself and PM me if you get any problems.
Also You don't have to be rooted for this to work.
You can try this https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=11410963190603909998 flash it with magisk and simply reboot your device.
its crashing

Just flash this one, you don't need root for this to work.
I flashed the zip, it did unlock the face unlock but it's not working. The camera's infrared lights up but it shuts down quickly and doesn't unlock.
Never mind it works, but it needs a swipe to unlock, I ll see if that's a ROM specific thing, doesn't seem to have an option that toggles it either.

Where does the setting appear after flashing the zip? It's not under settings, security, smart lock with trusted devices etc.
