No user apps showing in battery usage. - LG G5 Questions & Answers

Hi All
Hope this is the right place to post.
So had my G5 since last Friday (17/06) and it's awesome the best phone I've ever had.
I have one small niggling problem that's not really that big a deal but it bugs me, in my battery usage I only ever have
Screen (56% currently)
Phone idle (32% currently)
Cell standby (4% currently)
Voice calls (3% currently)
Android OS (3% currently)
The first few day it only listed screen and cell standby, it's never listed a single game or app no matter how much I use them, spoke with LG support on live chat they don't have a clue what's up and don't seem to think it's a problem which it's not really but like I said it bugs me.
So I thought I'd see if the best tech support on the planet, the good users of xda had a clue to help me get this sorted, the phone works fine in every other way well apart from k9 mail not polling over night due to doze but sorted that now but that's a k9 problem.
So if you have any ideas please share, I've tried factory reset a few time and safe mode too.
Thank you in advance.

Same problem, tried some third party apps to monitor the battery like gsam and I've discovered that apps, even games, if they don't drain much battery are not listed in the settings, and in gsam are inferior to 1% around 0.X%.
Sometimes telegram and whatsapp pop-up, because maybe they drain the battery.
Happen the same on a S7 Edge of a friend of mine, maybe is a Marshmallow bug?

Thank you, good to know it's not just me and it could just be a bug in Marshmallow.
I did notice earlier after I posted that when I took it off charge for a minute or so it did list some apps, so looks like as more power was used they must of dropped off because they haven't used enough power to then register any usage.

Will see, I'm very happy with the battery life, the only two things that drains are the modem (where I work the signal is weak) and the screen

Just updated, maybe 10D solved this.
Will report tomorrow

Good to know just got 10d myself a few minutes ago, but strangely some apps started to appear in battery usage list this morning strange goings on with the G5 but I still love it.
Update: Your right it, it does seem to have fixed it all apps that I've used have appeared in the list.

Yep, solved too with the new update.

[Q] Abnormal battery drain overnight

Hi everyone,
I have a problem with my GT-i9300 with stock JB & stock kernel (I9300XXDLJ4), the battery drains too much fast while screen is off, even after all apps closed or cold start (if screen is on, battery drains abnormally fast as well). BBS shows lots of partial wakelocks named NetworkLocationLocator, and of course I have googled this and found an issue in AOSP issues list, but no solution. (sorry can't post links, issue #37348)
The only thing I can do to prevent early battery death is to go to Settings->Location and uncheck 'use wireless networks', but this is really bad for overall user experience. Things like latitude or google now are disabled.
I am attaching lots of screenshots that might help to understand my problem + BBS report and logs.
Thanks everyone in advance...
Mate, you know that there is an entire thread dedicated to better battery stats......... Search will probably lead to a resolution.

I have exatly the same issue. Search and search and nothing. already troubleshoot using BBS, the only way to do it is disable it or use an app that disconnects 3g and wifi and connects it every x minutes - like easy battery saver. the only thing I am amazed is that there are not so many reports about it...
will keep you posted since I keep troubleshooting.

It seems like I found the problem, at least on my phone. I have disabled SNS (Social Network Service or so, a weird app shipped with the stock rom by samsung) and also uninstalled the facebook app, looks like I don't have the issue since that. Battery has drained much less overnight today, and I don't see any location-related wakelocks in BBS. I'll try to find what exactly causes the problem
Can you please be more specific about this service? Where did you disable and what was the name of the app?
Thanks

It's under Settings->Application Manager. You have to swipe twice to the right in order to open 'All applications' tab there, and find SNS app, and then click 'Disable' button. The app's icon looks like Facebook logo (little f letter on blue background). Please let me know if it was helpful.. and don't forget to freeze/uninstall official facebook app
Thanks. Meanwhile I've remove and disable a lot of services, mainly from Samsung that I don't use and the battery drain is more stable when the device is on standby.

Well, have you noticed anything other than the services and battery drain? Maybe an in-/decrease of performance, or something else?
If you look on the Android *stock* battery stats app, you'll see, as soon as the screen is off, for the night, the data connection goes crazy with different signals and network modes. Have you tried putting the phone somewhere else at night, maybe just to see, whether that makes a difference? I'm guessing, you get fluctuations in your network, at night. That has happened to me, quite a lot, as I had my GS II (Telekom DE fixed it, though).
If that isn't the problem, then you've probably installed other third-party apps, that are causing this battery drainage, maybe they're collecting your user data, or something.
Anyways, hope I could help!
LG familyguy59/Beatsleigher
Yes I've been watching it. In resume:
1) if you activate use networks for location the battery drains even if none app request it.
2) there are a bunch of services mainly from Samsung that drains the battery just because they do.
3) if I leave my Wi-Fi off for the night it will drain 5% against 20% if I leave it on
Probably this one is because of weak Wi-Fi at my bedroom. Yes I've selected only when connected but even so the phone doesn't respect it.
4) if you have selected backup this phone to Google it will drain the battery also
5) I can have really good battery life if I disconnect Wi-Fi and data and connect it once in a while
But my point is why should I need to manage all this stuff? Why do I need to spend more time troubleshooting something instead of having fun with a new phone?
I've used juice defender, battery stats and a bunch of other applications just to conclude that android and Samsung are a piece of **** regarding power management.
And yes, Google now is disconnected and also history location.
If I wipe my phone and do not install anything, battery life is regular, as soon I start to install apps it will start to drain without apparently explication.
I have bought an extra battery and will live with it. I this it's just an os feature.
I've tried some custom rom's but all of them have problems, some because something doesn't work, others because developer didn't implement it, so I know if I want one good enough to suit my desires,I should cook it myself but I do not want to do it, so I came back always to official one.
And I do not have enough patience to undervolt or spend my nights tweaking something that should have work from out of the box.
This is my experience with my first android and I think this is why people always have complains about this system. I'm just going to live with it and accept the fact that this os have lots of defects that should not exist.
One thing is true: it is very frustrating from an user experience point off view.
Just my 2 cents
Sent from my GT-I9300 using Tapatalk 2
I completely agree with you here. I don't know what exactly causes the problem, bugs with Samsung's software or bugs in Android itself - I don't care. The user experience is awful with this device.
I really considering getting an iPhone. iOS is built the way when regardless of amount apps installed and their quality the battery life is stable and decent. No app, maybe except VoIP, could drain battery if it's in the background or the screen is off. For me personally, all this Android's 'customizability' causes only decline in UX and battery life.
Ridiculously, there are lots of poor quality apps for Android that behave extremely bad, for example The Tribez game. It's a game, and I am expecting battery drain only when I'm playing (isn't it logical?), however, I do get drain caused by this app even if it's closed! That's ridiculous. I just bought an iPad version and I have absolutely no problems with it, moreover, it is running much faster on my dualcore tablet than on my cutting edge quad core phone. Of course, this is just an awful job porting the game from iOS to Android, but I'm sure, mostly this is problem with Android itself. This is the _mobile_ OS, and it must not allow any app behave like this (like iOS does, it kills badass processes almost instantaneously). I'm sorry Android fanboys, but your lovely OS is a poor quality product.
I've already said too much, but again, I don't want to think if my WiFi or anything else is turned off, I want to use my handset. I think you get my point.

Holy hell Batman at the Battery Drain!

Is anyone else getting Android OS around 50-60% battery use?
I have tried every ROM included going back to stock. I have ran the phone with nothing but Stock and no apps installed for a day and still get the same drain so I can only assume its a kernel issue.
I am not familiar with LG products in the slightest, but I had a yellow screen of death the other day...something I have never seen in my years with samsung android products. Anyone have any idea what this is maybe it is pointing to a hardware issue?
LG made a great phone, but I don't think I will keep it much longer. Locked boot loaders, no sources, and history of terrible updates have me regretting purchasing this phone. I tried my hand at building a working jb release when I first got the phone and it is going to take a skill set I do not have and I hate waiting on a company to do what they've never done in the past..

Easy, brother. I have only had one of my apps/utilities run higher than AndroidOS ever on this phone; however, that said, I think there is a problem with the way it's being calculated. I'm getting really good battery life with good sleep and still AndroidOS shows the highest by far. I know that's abnormal for it to be so high and still get good battery life, but it is what it is.
Edit: you've installed the fast dormancy toggle, right? As for the yellow screen, I've seen it once in my two months with the phone, just rebooted and carried on. Forgot what they said it was...but it is here in this forum somewhere.

I was just about to post something similar. Andriod OS being high kind of makes sense if nothing else is using the battery, although you would expect that number to fall significantly with increased screen on time and heavy app usage, which it doesn't ever seem to.
I've been having horrible battery drain lately. I'm currently traveling for business, and just use my OG for web surfing and stuff when I'm in my hotel. I leave the phone in airplane mode, with WiFi on. About two weeks ago, when I was on The Base 0.4 in that same configuration, my battery would drain maybe 1% an hour while I was sleeping.
Recently I've been on The Base 0.7.3, and my battery drains over 5% an hour while I'm sleeping. This means no screen on, no apps running, and even turning WiFi off! How does it use that much battery when it's not doing anything? Now, I'm not entirely sure what kernel I'm running. The first time I installed The Base 0.7.3 I used sk8's kernel. After getting poor battery life, I reflashed 0.7 and 0.7.3, this time choosing the freegee kernel. I'm not actually sure if the kernel changed though.
Anyway, I think I'll post again tomorrow with some screenshots from Better Battery Stats+ and CPU Spy.
I'm wondering if this recent botched update had the battery fixes we need. Hopefully they'll re-release it soon.

When I would get bad drain, which has happened several times, I could narrow it down to a couple things in order to solve the problem.
In my case it would always happen after installing Google+. Uninstall and reboot would usually fix the issue. If I got drain on a fresh install without g+ installed, I found that if I installed the 2.2 kernel separately as a stand alone zip, that would fix it. Don't know why but it may work for you too.
I don't have screen shots, but today I recharged at 38% after 3:10 of phone use and 1:55 screen on time and about 15 hours off charger. That's with Wi-Fi on the whole time and Bluetooth for about 9 hours. I have my work exchange account on active sync with push notifications. Facebook and Twitterer to 4 hour intervals. I'm underclocked to 1350 and using powersave gov with deadline.

Believe you are correct. There were issues on the Samsung Infuse and even the international SGS3 for a while... it was referred to as 'memory leak.' Has been worked out by devs on XDA. You can put memory leak in the XDA search above... it's above my pay grade.
Edit: It's great to see another RD here... hope you will reconsider keeping the phone and stay !!

Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I have Google+ uninstalled, but part of me thinks Google Now may be partially the culprit (although why that would be the case with all radios off, I don't know).
I'll try a fresh install of the 2.2 kernel and see if that helps. Thanks.
I can't speak for anyone else but FDT did wonders for my battery life. I was only able to go about 12 hours prior to disabling FD.

^^^ This is indeed worth considering.... I think the question then becomes why is it consistent among the 3 roms we are using? Maybe when JB source is out and something is built from source all will be good.

I would be less inclined to believe it is a faulty measure if we had a different ROM not built off stock (AOKP/CM10) that could produce different values. However, I seriously doubt anything built into either of the two custom ROM's is geared toward normalizing that reading. That's why they are both the same as the stock AndroidOS percentages. Jivy is probably right that it's a kernel issue. With the size battery we have, imagine the potential if it is a true reading (androidOS out-of-control) and we can get it under control down the road. We're talking double the current best battery life you've ever had on this phone at the very least.

Get BetterBatteryStats, select Since unplugged and Alarms to see what is waking the device (making it not go into a deep sleep). eBay was a big culprit for me.
The wakelock that keeps the phone awake during background data transfer (screen off) lasts 6 seconds (I am guessing it does it in multiples of 6s) regardless of how long the sync takes. Everytime email, facebook, gmail, drive, picasa, twitter, g+, google maps, ebay, calendar, contacts.. whatever wakes the phone to check something, it will be a minimum of 6 seconds.. This adds up over the course of the day and it is counted in the Android OS. Shut down syncs you don't absolutely want/need and this number will go down. All phones with the Snapdragon S4 Pro has it, especially the Nexus4. It seems they've done some kernel work to fix/reduce it but I havent really looked into it since I don't have that phone. I've seen complaints in the Droid DNA forum as well.

[Q] Battery drain

Hello to everyone
I have some issue with battery, camera, ram memory after update to android 5.0.2.
First the battery, my screen light is 40% all the time, i use viber, whatsapp, messenger and chrome about 2h a day. Before the update, my battery life could stand approximately 2 days without charging now is about 4-6 hours a day, Does any of you have the same problem?
Secondly camera, when i shoot a picture from a distance of two meters I realized that the image is blurry in low light, but when i take a picture with flash, phone can't focus the object, in daylight the picture is pretty ok.
And third RAM, after closing down an app, and again open that app i realize that phone force stop that app, but after closing a chrome browser my screen freeze for two seconds..
I lost some Features, smart pause, widget on lock screen, plug and pop, LG Software when plug usb to pc, lost two or three options in connecting method?
I apologise for my bad english.
Thank you in advance

It's official version for east europe.
OTA.
I used 5.0.2 from first release and I can tell you the truth. It just sucks. LG probably released this update without fixing bugs to make people angry... They did it intentionally to tell us "Sorry, but your phones are aging. They can't handle it better" and forcing us to buy new smartphone. Sad, but It's true. On Lollipop I saw they fixed some things that was broken in Kitkat like GPS, blinking screen on low brightness (in my opinion they just increased minimal screen light equivalent to 10% on kitkat but I can be wrong) and some others. Battery life is worse and RAM management is terrible. I tried to make swap partition or test some settings on Low Memory Killer but without success. Phone started lagging and freezing from sometimes to often. 2 days ago I returned to kitkat and I am on ART. It's faster and more stable. I recommend you to flash good old 4.4.2 too
Some people will probably tell, that fresh rom is always faster. It's truth, but my uncle have D620R too. He's using stock and updated Kitkat on dalvik without root. When I get his g2m in my hand I just noticed that Kitkat is much better compared to my slow Lollipop

Would like to ask which software version you guys have? I have the V20b-esa-xx

I have been testing out 5.0.2 on my D618
Here's what I have noticed:
The image quality from camera is the same, gps is still bad (still tells location inaccurately), speed is the same as it was in kitkat, and I believe battery is almost the same as it was in Kitkat. There are also some added and removed features and added lollipop animations

After checking out for a few more days, I can definitely confirm that the battery is a bit worse that it was in Kitkat. A few days ago, after I woke up in the morning the battery went from 24% to 14% (It went down by 10% just being on standby). Plus, I tried charging the phone overnight but to my surprise the phone is not event fully charged yet? I slept at 10:30pm and I woke at 4am, I checked the phone it's still charging at 98%...
Anyone know's how to fix this? I'm getting terrible battery life and one reason I bought the G2 mini over others is it's battery life...

LG G5 Rapid Battery drain/ Hot temperature.

So I got the LG G5 last month on the 16th March. So far the performace is really good, But there are a few irritating problems with the phone. Why is that the LG G5 Battery dies so quick? Literally I charge it over night and it reaches to a good 100% but then within like an hour or 2 it goes down to like 80 or 70 PER CENT Within those hours?! I've tried multiple apps like greenify, Juicedefender and the system battery saver NONE OF THESE WORKED I even disable animations close off each app but no it just drains and drains. Oh yeah another worrying thing as well. At random times my phone will get really hot and my battery will also drain on that too sometimes i have to take out the battery just to let it cool down, how do I reduce these problems i dont want my phone to catch fire for no reason.
Your tips can be really useful to me thank you.

Before we spit out tips. What version of android is it on? Was it used or new when you bought? Is it getting hot without you using it?

Disable Facebook app and it's services and you will be good.
Last Facebook update screwed things up.

You need to tell us what model of the phone it is and the software version below build number. 7.0 is the main OS version but there's still plenty of other variants.
Same issue...
I have the exact same issue. The phone has been factory reset last week. Very few software are running on it (and Facebook is not one of them)
Software info :
Android Version : 7.0
Android Security Patch level : November 1, 2016
Baseband version : MPSS.TH.2.0.c1.4.00042-M8996FAAAANAZM-1.74551.2
Kernel version : 3.18.31
Build Number : NRD90U
Software version : H83120a
Hardware info :
Model number : LG-H831
I will try another factory reset. I won't install any software afterwhile to see if the issue still occur.
Is this what you needed?
DEVICE: LG G5 H850
Android Version: Nougat 7.0
Software version: V20A

Pretty much, would've been better if it were like the above post. The only time I've encountered the battery drain of that extremity was when facebook went haywire. I do still have on going issues with the phone only sleep sleeping 50% of time but it's certainly able to last me a day.

Nah man its complete stock.
same here
I have had this problem a few times now also. Each time I was using FotMob a British Football program - checking game scores etc. After putting away the phone it heats up and later no juice. Normally I can go for 2 days. I throw my phone on the charger each night and I may still be on 50%. I think there is a clear trend with some poorly behaving apps. I had this happen since my update to 20b. Completely stock. Not a solution but maybe more info.
I also have a G5 and when I had this problem before I just did the simple solutions like not using the phone while it is being charged, lowering the brightness of the screen, and turning off WiFi/Bluetooth/GPS. Switch off the apps that you don't use. Go to settings and tap on Application Manager. Select 'ALL' then choose the apps you want to disable. Another reason might be because you did not update your software yet. I hope these help.
Never mind. I found ways to stop it now.

This. But I only disabled Facebook messenger and replaced with Disa. There is also a lightweight version of messenger that is available.
Facebook app itself seems to be fine.
In my case after nugat the Facebook app kills my battery in 2 hours and over heats my messenger is fine.
So i just log in with chrome to Facebook and im back at 3.5h sot.
This has been a pretty interesting thread. Ever since I changed phones and got the LG G5, I've been trying to find ways to extend the battery life of my phone. Hopefully the time will come when we won't have to worry about the batteries of smart phones soon.
I am having similar issues but it seems to be when I am using Maps and Camera. When I have location turned on, and am using Google Maps, the phone starts to overheat very badly and the battery will completely drain from 100% within 90 minutes. Even if I turn off Location services, the phone remains warm and battery still drains quickly. The overheating and battery drain also happens when I use the camera. Very annoying as it starts to get uncomfortable to place in my pocket when it is so hot. I am on v20a-EUR-XX.
I think I will have to send it back to LG for another replacement... *sigh*...
check if you are using SD card more than 64GB and if so, remove it and try
Before android 7 never had this issue, i have h850 model. After android 7 the phone heats and drain battery fast, it is related to location i think some wakelock that is never stoped when using location, hope it will be fixed soon

Question Anyone with high Mobile Network standby battery drain

I used to have the classic Mobile Network standby battery drain issue, until I flashed CalyxOS.
I left my phone with 100% battery before I went to bed last night and woke up this morning 8 hours later with no drain of any kind at all.
Might be an option for anyone else with the same issue.
Interesting. So that confirms it's a software issue and not hardware. Which is a relief. It means Google can fix it via OTA update. Hopefully enough people reported it that Google took notice. i am on chat with google now and they want me to factory reset. I was hoping to avoid that
wait just a question. you said 8 hours.those stats don't update for 24 hours. So you got 16 more hours to go till you know if the issue is fixed. that is why there are no stats at all on your screenshot. It just says battery data isn't available right now
Edit: ok I was wrong about that because I factory reset my phone (on the advise of Google support) and it's been 7 hours and I can see stats. But yes not losing anything In 8 hours is suspicious. I mean it could happen I guess my pixel 4xl got fantastic battery life and apparently mine was the only 4xl that got good battery life because everyone else hated the 4xl because of battery life. Anyway with my 4xl I would lose 1 or 2 percent overnight same with my 1,2,3a and 5. It's only the 6 that this is happening too. I just hope that it can be fixed with an software update.
8 hours with no drain is suspicious if you are not in Airplane mode. The clock, the weather app, email client, a bunch of things at least asks back for update preiodically, so it seems odd.

He's pushing this OS all over the place, not sure why. Most people do not want to bl unlock, wipe their devices and gamble with a new OS that probably doesn't work with Google Pay. And I agree 8 hours with no drain? Not likely although I did have 0.4% / hour one night. Usual is around 0.8 - 1.0 / hour.

Calyx doesn't do anything really in the background. It's de-Googled and has background processes limited or killed altogether. It is certainly possible to get this low idle drain considering OP is on wifi with what looks to be a very strong mobile network signal so the inefficient Exynos modem isn't draining it.
The downside of course is that a bunch of stuff doesn't work right on Calyx because there are no Play Services. You can't even access the stuff you bought IAP for...
I see. I don't say that it is bad. limiting or killing processes in deep sleep would hurt the notifications too, right? It is an interesting OS, but I would join to the others. I need my apps in a convenient way. I did modding in the past but now I appreciate phones that just work when I take them out from the box.

Where am I pushing anything? I'm sorry that I'm excited I've managed to solve a problem and want to share it with others where it could help. But hey, you're welcome to keep scrolling if my posts bother you that much.
For anyone else who might be interested, I took my phone off charge this morning and have been using it for the last 5 hours receiving Whatsapp messages, emails, calendar notifications, Doorbell/CCTV notifications and doing light internet browsing and I've lost 2% battery so far.

You might have "solved" one problem but introduced countless others. If you're really that excited then give all the info not just overnight battery drain and be a little more forthcoming about the rom. I mean in reality if I turn off all network activity and put it into airplane mode I'd get the same results and probably even better. And then there's your thread of ...Why isn't everyone running CalyxOS? Maybe one thread would have been enough instead of cross posting the Pro and the P6. Anyway, I do believe you have gotten enough feedback so people know the pitfalls of the rom and the supposed benefits of longer battery life.

I turned nothing off. If I had I would have said so. What's the point in posting my findings then? I would be useless wouldn't it? I don't have time to play games and lead people around the bush. I'm not 12 years old anymore.
So just to satisfy your curiosity, I use my phone in exactly the same way I have always used it. Bluetooth off, Wifi and mobile data on, location on when I need it but off at the moment. All my apps work just the same as before including my banking app. The only thing I don't use now is Google Pay, and two of my apps with in app purchases are not registered. Apart from that it is exactly how it was before.

Mobile network standby of 2 minutes with 5 hours off the charger suggests airplane mode was in use.
I don't care how much stuff you turn off in the background, there is no way you're getting a 2% loss from 5 hours of usage unless you used the phone for less than 30 minutes in those 5 hours.

Ok crack on buddy. Lol
Suspicious, yes, but then again... I used to be able to run my old Moto G3 for two weeks on a single charge with just a bare-bones LOS, no gapps and nothing else in the background, so it doesn't seem THAT unreasonable.
