restore backup - Xperia Z2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

is there any way to restore data from marshmallow backup into lollipop?
hoe there will be any way
need to get my contacts and messages

is it a twrp backup.if yes you will get your contacts and messages but you will face other applications giving force close because marshmallow and lollipop are very diffrent. There is a workaround but will need time. restore your backup then backup your contacts and messages then reflash lollipop.

You cant restore a marshmallow backup to a lollipop.

Yup, you can't restore it unless you update to the version where the backup was made and then backing it up using another method, titanium backup for instance..

[Q] unrooted backup with My Backup

My understanding is that when rooting some of the stock apps disappear, eg flashlight, soundcloud.
Does my backup successfully backup these apps without root?
so after I root it, I can restore them
if not, is there any other method to get a proper backup of apps and data without root on the HOX+
thanks

You can backup/restore the apps, but not the data (so your score and progress in games and settings in apps will be lost).

Basically for a newb android user who just purchased this device, what is the best backup app to use on a stock device? Then once i unlock bootloader do i need to restore from a backup or does unlocking bootloader not affect any apps or settings that need restored?
Once I finally Root my device, what is the best root backup app if i wanted to flash roms on the regular and not lose any game progress/data or apps in the process?
So many dang backup apps in the marketplace can't tell which one would be best and you really wouldn't know until you used one, unlocked phone, then find out the app didn't work! LOL. Trying not to find out the hard way, thanks!
ok, I've made a backup of everything I can with My Backup, which as stated, wont keep app data.
I've also made a backup using adb backup
when I attempt root (I've already nuked one HOX+, so going softly softly this time) I'm going to try restoring the adb backup first and hope for success. If not, fall back on the My Backup...backup
Once rooted I intend to use Titanium Backup *root*, I used that on my sensation and it never gave me any trouble

[Q] Titanium Backup - where is the sms data located?

I'm on CyanogenMod 10.1.3 ROM on Evo 4G LTE. I did a full Titanium Backup (system, apps, data) and I'm restoring single apps at a time to troubleshoot a couple of issues. Anyway, I restored my sms app (Handcent) but my sms data is all gone. I imagine it's in one of the system files I have to restore from Titanium Backup, but I don't know which file has the data.
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Unless you actually backed up SMS specifically, there will be no backup. Backing up the app and data will not backup your messages.

Thanks for the reply. I didn't back up sms specifically, but it was my assumption that one of the android system files backed up by Titanium held the missing data. I assumed this because every time I've flashed a new ROM, I've gotten my sms data by doing a full Titanium restore. This time however, I didn't restore any system data, just apps & app data, because I'm troubleshooting. So, I feel like one of the system data files has the sms data, but of course I don't know which one it is :/

[Q] Best way to Backup/Restore not custom recovery?

Hello XDA,
Im using CWM modded custom recovery. Restoring my backup made my phone bootloop and eventually i had to factory reset my phone and start all over.
So im looking for the best way to backup my entire phone as is (Homescreen with folders widgets, settings, all apps and its data...everthing).
I searched in the forum for a couple of methods but im not sure... i have titanium backup pro, does creating update.zip and restoring from recovery do the same work? what about adb backup?
I need a method that can backup and restore just as CWM did for me.
Help would be much appreciated.

TiBu is as good as it gets for backing up data, but nothing but a custom recovery or onandroid (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.h3r3t1c.onnandbup&hl=en) can do an actual boot/system/data backup. You also might try a different version of CWM or see if they have a fully functional version of TWRP, Make a backup before restoring stuff and test to see if it's working before relying on it.

This app is awesome for it self. But im having more trouble restoring then backing up. Are you familiar with other methods of restoring nandroid backups? perhaps not from cwm recovery but apps/module as you posted for backup?

Only way to restore is via recovery. The update.zip for TiBu will restore apps then will restore the data after you reboot.

Been awhile since I've looked at the Atrix forums. Thinking part of the issues might be because of the big system hack to run CM11. Mybe th recovery you have doesn't support it correctly? Doesn't seem to have the newer TWRP versions so doubtful you can install KK roms with it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/atrix-4g/development/rom-cm-11-android-4-4-4-atrix-bigpart-t2847281
That talks about what recovery to use and how to revert.

Problem with nandroid backup...

I restored my nandroid backup of AICP 7.1.1 but some of my settings were reset to default.. Also my messages were deleted... Is it a known bug??
Anyway to correct this??
Sent from my KIW-L21 using Tapatalk
yes got the same. Saving/restoring cache do not help for some data, i.e. messages.
You have to backup your messages also with App like SMS & Calllog Backup

unfortunately its not possible, coz onlyway to backup app with data is by titanium backup which requires root..

---------- Post added at 06:16 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:14 PM ----------
and if your are on volte active stock firmware custom roms will not work.
You can backup your data using Helium. No root required.
Helium is a good choice.

If user can not put any effort then how can you expect them to move flawlessly from stock to custom and vice versa. Less effort doesn't guarantee the full backup, what i mentioned above is tested and without any data loss. But if Helium is doing the same, you or users can stick to it, no issues.
