I would like to know how to get the FM radio working on a rooted Qualcomm S7 Edge, the sm-g9350, Hong Kong variant.
I've rooted on Aurora ROM from a chinese site, and it doesn't have what's needed for FM. I can't get OTA updates as knox is 0x1. I've poured over the AP7 T Mobile update that enabled FM for the USA S7 Edge Qualcomm variants. I've found some radio jar files, some lib files, but I'm at a loss as to how to get FM working.
How do I do this? It's the Qualcomm msm8996 chip, which runs on some other devices that have fm.
Can someone with knowledge on this please work with me or help me in getting this working?
Just because it has the same chip doesn't mean it has the radio antenna or chip for it. You might want to find out if the hardware is even there first.
My s5 mini duos has same.
Sent from my SM-G800H using XDA-Developers mobile app

I've Googled and found it should have fm. How can i verify it? It is the same S7 Qualcomm sd820 as US variants, and they have fm enabled, as of a recent firmware update. Hong kong hasn't released this update, so I want to know where in the firmware I need to look.

The hardware is there. It's a replica of the US variants.

I don't know about this specific phone, but "the hardware is there" may not necessarily be accurate. The phone may have say a wifi module with integrated bluetooth and fm-radio, BUT for some of these functions, discrete components are required. Like say a few resistors, capacitors and stuff. So it is possible they have omitted that in the design and simply disabled that functionality.

I'm now looking for the information in details about the coprocessor chip of Xperia 2014, but all I found is just the link of sony develop website and it's not enough for me. I wonder what kind of chip are they using as the coprocessor chip and does it has the same kind of function with the sensor hub chip inside S4/S5 phone? I checked the teardown websites but it do not contain this information. Please, anyone help me to check this chip !!!

The phone uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 baseband-apps processor. This combines the communications processor with the applications processor. The Samsung Galaxy S5 uses the same processor.
Is this what you are referring to?

Not exactly, but thank for your help. I'm looking what kind of sensor hub/coprocessor chip that phone use.
Hello friends at XDA
I am a guy who is looking to listen radio over bluetooth, because I find it very useful and also I don't want to waste my money using the data for this.
I made a little research and I find that only a few models have this particular spec, and a promising app (Spirit2 FM) sadly is no longer supported because the death of their developer (RIP Mike Reid). There is some ways to make it work, but none of it with absolutely certain.
The idea of this post is make a list of the models that actually support this feature, an serves as a guide to others who are looking for this. For example, I tested my Xiaomi Mi Max with Miui 8 and it support FM over BT, but the Xiaomi Mi5c don't.
I know that is necessary to connect an earphones in order to work as an antenna.
The list will be : Brand - Model - OS/Version - SoC
Xiaomi - Mi Max - Miui 8.5.3 - Qualcomm MSM8956 Snapdragon 650
Motorola - Moto G4 Plus - Android 7.1 - Qualcomm MSM8952 Snapdragon 617
Let's look if this idea works. If this post is in the wrong section, admins please move it to the right place. Thanks
Cheers!

Anyone haves an android phone who works with fm radio over bluetooth?
As we all know Oneplus X is the best mid-range smartphone, but it lacks VOLTE support even when its Snapdragon 801 support that,
Means no HD calling and much worse on Reliance Jio because default dialer doesn't work and calls cant come over wifi.
We all know Oneplus had promised to implement VOLTE over the system update, but they hadn't, and according to me many are blaming Oneplus for that, but that's not the whole story.
2 Days back I emailed Oneplus Support asking about VOLTE Update on Oneplus X, At the end of conversation, they gave me the main reason of not implementing it that Qualcomm had for some technical reasons disabled VOLTE on all Snapdragon 801 devices, means Oneplus don't got the VOLTE driver of Snapdragon 801, I searched Qualcomm drivers, and on Qualcomm website find that they don't provide drivers to End Users But only to registered module manufacturers or other Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM’s).
But Guys wait, there is still hope, I searched all the Snapdragon 801 Devices
If you want too - https://www.qualcomm.com/products/s...yNDU5MTpuYW1lJTIyOiU1QiUyMjgwMSUyMiU1RCU3RA==
I find that Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, and Xperia Z2 support VOLTE on Snapdragon 801.
Proof - https://support.sonymobile.com/global-en/xperiaz3compact/kb/801930746ffcf563015c0bfaac370057e6/
Means Xperia Z3 Compact and rest two got the driver of VOLTE of Snapdragon 801, But on all the three, VOLTE is only supported on Marshmello, there is no VOLTE driver of Snapdragon 801 on Nougat.
I searched VOLTE Patch of Xperia Z3 Compact and found this - https://forum.xda-developers.com/crossdevice-dev/sony/enabling-volte-xperia-z2-xperia-z3-t3438505
This VOLTE Patch is of before the official update on the given devices. But I hadn't tried that just because I don't got the rooted device at that time.
I searched official Modem of Xperia Z3 Compact of Marshmello and found this - https://github.com/SonyAosp/vendor_qcom_firmware/tree/android-6.0
I replaced modem files of Oneplus One which I find here - https://forum.xda-developers.com/on...dio-updated-modem-radio-files-oxygen-t3072516
and flashed it from TWRP but it gave firmware mismatch error.
Then I flashed [UNIVERSAL][ALPHA]VoLTE Patch for All Android M Roms - here is the link - https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...universal-volte-patch-android-m-roms-t3535370
It provided just software support for VOLTE, not the Driver support, means it just enabled the option of Enhanced 4G LTE Mode in the network setting, But VOLTE doesn't work because of not finding the driver.
This is the Stock Marshmello firmware of Xperia Z3 Compact - http://www.xperiablog.net/forum/resources/xperia-z3-compact_d5833_23-5-a-1-291_india_generic.676/
Means it have the VOLTE Driver of Snapdragon 801 inside.
What I am saying is, there is software support inside a package above, the driver support and the modem also, it just needs the right VOLTE Patch for Oneplus X made from this, for Oxygen Os Marshmello and Custom roms too. And that is possible in my knowledge, Soo please use this and do something! Developers we noobs are holding on you.
Guys no response? Anything, I am right or wrong. What are your views?
The main reason is that OnePlus has to do some work with each carrier to make it happen.
So THERE WON'T BE ANY VOLTE FOR OPX !

Unlocking band won't gives you VOLTE.
I've seen some Xiaomi which have been unlocked, but for OPX, it seems impossible (harware locking).

Well snapdragon 801 support Volte that is no doubt... Since Volte is modem firmware related,
it´s all about software and firmware... Hardware support is fine.

there are many custom roms on xda for oneplus x which have software enabled VoLTE support but I think they lack the modem drivers which are required to enable VoLTE.
and Kéno40 is right, you should face the reality that onyx won't be getting VoLTE patch or any OTA update for activating VoLTE.

Yeah like resurrection remix 5.8.3, but bro can someone port official modems of Xperia z3 compact, that link has the modems for Android 7.0 also. But still, someone had to extract driver from the firmware of xperia z3 compacts official firmware.

if it would have been possible then OnePlus would have done that a lot earlier (in 2016) but its nearly 3 years so I think its not possible.

They cant because they had to get that driver from Qualcomm directly, but Qualcomm denied because they had disabled VOLTE on Snapdragon 801, copyright issue, wonder how Sony did that, but Sony Xperia Z3, Z3 compact, and z2 had that driver, which we can extract.

Does the Poco F1 have NFC (at least in europe)??? I read somewhere that it doesnt have NFC, which would suck, since Google Pay just started here in Germany...
As far as we've seen specs, they all indicate it doesn't come with NFC, I guess it's a small trade they made for a cheaper phone (small for me since I don't use it)
No NFC. Read the reviews from Android Authority and GSMArena. The Verge also covered the phone.
I don't mind since there are no other SD845 phones under $399. They had to cut corners. NFC and IP cert are usually on the chopping block as far as features go...
No it does not have nfc
People in India don't need NFC. Because we barely use it. In the last five years I never used NFC. Maybe for Europe people their transport system has payments with NFC so they'll face an issue.

I never use NFC for payment. But using NFC for sending files (android beam) or transferring file from old phone to new one (if both support NFC) are pretty neat!
I am still confused. Many places say it doesn't have it but some websites (XDA included) state it does. Could someone verify?
Maybe its possible to Upgrade NFC with a NFC enabled Back Cover. WE need a tear down Video already!
The specs given initially on XDA included NFC. But it handy seems this was not correct - the post has been ammended to state "no NFC", consistent with other reports and hands-on videos I've seen.
I've never come across an external NFC device for any phone. Would be a handy device to have, though it would presumably occupy the usb-c, which in itself would be a PITA
Someone on another forum raised an interesting idea. There were the initial ideas that the F1 might have NFC. It was suggested that either the European version might have NFC or even that all versions might have NFC but that it might not be enabled in the Indian ROM.
To check this, if anyone has an F1, could they please install DevCheck from XDA or Play and just check on the hardware page to verify that NFC hardware is not present.
Thanks a million

Hi Sanjay, that's the case on my Hong Kong / international version too - i think naff47 is asking about the European version (if that's different from the international one - highly doubtful I'd have thought). I read from someone in the Netherlands that it had launched there (it's available on import from China pretty much everywhere), but haven't seen this confirmed.

Hongkong probably will be made in China, whereas mine is made in India.
Not too sure if there is any other manufacturing facility for our phone
Plus I don't think NFC will add that much to the cost that they will put it in selectively.
The only way to use NFC with the F1 is by getting Samsung S3 Fronier smart watch. That will connect to the F1 and the watch has NFC. I tested it and it works great. You need to use Magisk hide if you're rooted,
There is no NFC built into the Poco.

Who is gonna spend that much and that also in country like India.
but in India we use Mostly Paytm, PhonePe, BHIM UPI etc. apps which are UPI based apps so We don't need NFC must Have.
UPI is the standard way from Indian Government to Pay Digitally even with Low End Phones, and this phone is made accordingly!
As you might all know , Not all Snapdragon 8 Gen2 come with same Bluetooth/ Wi-Fi hardware modem
Some are fast connect 6900 " Wi-Fi 6e" some with fast connect 7800 " Wi-Fi 7" and others use other modems with only Wi-Fi 6 like Vevo & IQ phones
can we know which Modem that S23 Ultra uses , may be by looking into drivers or system dumb of its software ?
Well searching online, according to Qualcomm themselves, the gen 2 for galaxy will have both. According to other sources the S22 Ultra is the one that has Fast Connect 7800, but at the same time I cant find a source that says the S23 Ultra supports Wifi 7. I tried checking on my phone with multiple apps, and secret Samsung codes however I cant find the Bluetooth or Wifi modem.

Yup that is the point , why they put Fast connect 7800 in it and increase cost if they didn't enable WiFi 7 , they could have used only the 6900 model like they did with the S23+ & normal S23, that is why I think that all 3 models have Fast connect 6900 and the mentioning of 7800 was a typo in the article

I can only speak to the WiFi 6/6e part of this and I can tell you that my S23U connects to 6/6e as well as my wife's S22U. Matter of fact, my Z Fold 3 worked fine on 6/6e both.
I can confirm us version contains fastconnect 7800 under wcn7851. Basic support for wifi 7 is there, but the full capabilities likely won't be realized in android 13. Current patches for android 14 show progress for wifi-7 and relevant drivers.
Samsung does have a history of disabling features if they're unstable or caused by hardware defects.
On Qualcomm's devices finder page, it is mentioned that S23U uses 7800, S23 and S23+ use 6900
According to Xiaomi's official information, it is mentioned that after WIFI7 is not open, OTA updates will be open, and I think the same will be the case for Samsung.

Qualcomm website isn't accurate , last year they said the same about the S22 series , but it was discovered that the Wi-Fi ship in S22 ultra was Broadcom not Qualcomm and the only device that have Qualcomm was the normal S22 ,
I know that this year is different & in their website they are mentioning the US version of the S23U not the world wide Version and there is not a single source mentioning that the global version is Using Qualcomm latest tech till now, and from years of experience with Samsung products not all versions have same motherboard components , even Screens and Memory chips sometimes are different between versions
Sure it doesn't matter at this stage , it's full potential is anyway not fully unlocked but it is good to know that your device maybe be better future proofed
