did you read the first post there? Says that the adblocker routes all your traffic through their own private server. That means all your traffic can be watched by them and info gathered. Could be a risky move.

[Q] Ad blocker?

Whats the best way to block ads? TIA
I use the bigtincan ad block app if not on a rom with ad blocking. I've never had a problem with it.

If rooted and it's not already part of the ROM you are using - AdFree from Market
Ok.. Virus rom doesnt have the ad blocker host files built in
valid question but OP please move this to general section. this has no relevance to dev work

Root your phone and install AdAway
Adfree is free better than adway ..
Edward Cullen
That won't block porn websites - just in-app ads.
OP - does your service provider not give the option of adult filtering at their end? In the UK it's actually turned on by default and you have to request if you want it off.

Try this...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.trendmicro.tmmspersonal
It gives you a fully functional version for 90 days and then you have to decide whether to pay or not. It has parental block for the internet.
Edit: Actually, a search for parental block apps on Google Play turns up quite a few...

Thanks a lot it works
Nice idea to use a parental control for myself!

Awesome App that modifing HOST file in your android , and more advance than other ads block app's , that u can update it easily form the application
Suggest "ROM Toolbox"
One of the tools in ROM Toolbox Lite is a hosts-file modifier that can block ads, casinos, porn, and 'risky' domains. Seems to work well and it's nice and simple (as long as you've rooted your phone of course).

I'm also looking for android filtering apps to block sites while surfing or use apps. But it seems it's a little more difficult to make it than developing the features on Mac or Windows operating system. I use Aobo Internet Filter ( http://aobo.cc/aobo-filter.html ) for Mac and PC, but can't find any apps to block unwanted sites for android phones. I want to know if you found anyone, just tell me, thanks.

[Q] Ad blocker that can be removed?

Hello. I'd like to try an ad blocker that can be removed (and any changes it made removed) if it doesn't work as needed--causes Pandora to skip. Any recommendations?

Now that the dust has settled....

I'm now a happy user of a rooted/rom'd (Candy5) Verizon LG G3 (switched from iPhone AT&T). One question I have is what firewall are people using? I would love to see a granular firewall..."allow this app to go to this site, but not that site" type firewall....so far all I see are the noroot/vpnish ones, which I don't want. Is there ANY firewall out there that can do the above? Thank you....been great so far!
I use avast mobile security and have the firewall enabled (requires root for firewall mode). You can add custom rules and block sites using their ip address or port number (if you know it). It has always worked great for me.

How to block ads without Rooting

Download adblock plus for Android here: https://update.adblockplus.org/latest/adblockplusandroid.apk
Install it
Go to Settings > More > Cellular Networks > Access point names
Select your APN. Set proxy to localhost and the Port to 2020
Hit the menu and save it
To block ads while on Wifi
Go to settings > Wifi > long press your connected Wifi connection and choose Mofdify
Set proxy to manual, scroll down and set the proxy and port to the same as above
Load up adblock plus and ...
Profit
Alternatively you can install block this apk from below

did you save the apn after editing it?
Ty!
Trying it on my nexus7 2013 Wi-Fi, and the main thing I've noticed is that the pictures/videos won't load in Instagram. Any way to "white list" an app? Otherwise, so far so good!
*edit* Also noticing ads on YouTube. Not sure if they would be impacted or not, but figured I'd bring it up. Great work otherwise!

I did. I think ABP is just missing some of the ads I see most often. After a reboot apps and web pages look the same on WiFi and cellular.
Adguard..
Thanks bro

Nope, anything that allows blocking ads is against the ToS and will be removed.

Thanks in advance!!!

Just removed root from Android N DP4 as it might is the reason for my device lag and freeze. Installed Adblocker Plus, configured proxy, saved APN. Opened Google News and got pop-up ad in ten seconds.
Thanks this was much needed
