Hi guys,
I am from Germany and bought a Mo*to*ro*la Moto E in the US. Unfortunately I realized too late that the Tracfone US model does not support German sim cards since there is no sim card slot available. There seems to be a small metal cover where the slot shoud be. Maybe it can be removed?
Some Moto G models seem to have the same restrictions and although the cover can easily be removed there seems to be no way to use any other sim card because the slot is empty (no pins, no reading device or so).
Does anybody of you know if it is possible to remove this cover and use a sim card in the Moto E? I don't want to open and maybe damage the phone if it won't help anyway... On the other hand I have absolutely no idea what to do with a phone that cannot be used in German networks.
You probably also bought this phone because you found a deal for it on mydealz.
If you take a look at the thread over there you can see the Boardshots I took:

This is the rear facing side of the board, you can see the soldering spots for a sim card slot there.
I don't have one lying around, but I highly doubt it would help soldering one onto the spot.
The thing is, that the phone is also CDMA, which isn't even supported in Germany.
EDIT: Oh cool, you're living in Speyer! I used to go to school there ;D
That's right, although I did not find this deal on mydealz but on schnaeppchenfuchs. I was one of the early birds on that site who ordered the phone and could not cancel the order in time. So you think that - even if we got such a card slot -it still would not work on GSM or German 3G / LTE? I thought that if one was able to get a "German card slot" and flashed a German ROM, there could be a way to make it work... Too bad if this is not possible. What is the use of a phone that cannot make phone calls?!
What school did you attend? I was born in Speyer but went to Schifferstadt Paul-von-Denis-Gymnasium. Later, after my career in the forces, I went back to Speyer, but now I live in Oberhausen - which is still in your "neighbourhood", as I can see in your profile.

There is no country specific SIM card slot. The thing is that the radio on this phone is only for CDMA networks. And anyway, the Tracfone "SIM" is also still active somewhere (might be an eSIM) - and I don't think this phone has DualSIM in this configuration. LTE isn't even included in the specs btw
Flashing a German ROM is also impossible right now, cause we can't unlock the bootloader - so if we take a original signed image by motorola it will fail cause the model checks will fail - if we mod the model check it will fail cause the signature is tampered.
You can still use this phone as Remote for home automation, your FireTV (Stick), use it as MP3 Player (it even has a SD Slot). I think I'm gonna use it as offline spotify player at the gym, it'd fit better in my pocket there than my OnePlus One.
I went to FMSG, now I'm studying computer science in Karlsruhe
Ok, I have spent so much time on xda devs that I took for granted that there is an unlocked bootloader for each and every phone in the world! Well, since there seems to be no way to make it work at the moment, the Moto E will become a nice remote (although I do not really have much use for this) or maybe a music player for going jogging... Anyway, thanks for your explanations!
A friend of mine studied in Karlsruhe, too but he quit some months ago to start dual studies somewhere else. Too much mathematics and theory, he told me. Seems to be a really hard piece of work. Well, I could not make all this maths stuff anywhere. I was happy to get along with statistics in political sciences (which was even almost too much mathematics for me).

Guys, i really need help... Well my phone got a problem... first day using it, and im almost sure i will have an HARD time to exchange, since the seller is a pain, and i bought from internet
there is a small area, above the samsung logo and under the square buttons (contact, message, etc) that dont get touchs. about the "phone" "message" letters, you can see it here :

Well, i searched on the net, and on this forum and got no sucess. i know it seens to be an hardware problem, but at least im asking him, if it could be any kind of software issue, kernell, etc, i really dont know how the amoled display works.
The fact is that i spent all my money, that i took a lot of time to earn, on this phone, that was my dream, and know, on my first day, is becoming my nightmare. any sugestions of what i should try? if worth trying to install custom stuff?
Any help would be apreciated... it seens to be a small area, but just some things thant dont work :
on horizontal : u cant type "dot"
on vertical: cant scroll back the status bar when its down, cant click on "now playing" in music player
All this can be avoided turning the phone, but man, i paid a lot in it...
well, now trying swype, it seens it cant reach the far botton end, where the "dot" is. the screen doesnt seen to be dislocated anyway.. any ideas? please=/
no one had a similar issue, that cant tell me anything except changing phone would fix? im downloading JFD to see i can get something?
maybe kernell, something?
It sounds like the digitizer isn't working properly.
im searching for a screen aligment utility, it could fix my entire problem in a second... if i could move the screen about 2 milimeters up, it would "fix" the entire problem
If you used your credit card to buy it call your bank now and say the seller conducted fraud. Try your hardest to get the payment not to go thru.
I am assuming you bought it used?
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
i bought in a ebay-like shopping, there isnt mutch i can do, the seller was very honest until now, so i think i will ending get money, or other phone (unfortunaly not an galaxy s, since this was the only he had, and was the phone i wanted all the time)
so what i wish right now, that would avoid me a LOT of headache, was some way to bipass this.
since i dont use swype, using samsung keypad solves another problem. the bar problem isnt mutch anoying, since you can click return to make it go up, well, if the worst happen, and i dont get the money back, i think i will manage to live with it
seens im screwed
There is a chance you could get it exchanged through Samsung. I've heard of people still being able to do that even though they bought it offline. That or, someone correct me if I'm wrong, if you have the good phone insurance through T-Mo, they should be able to replace it. These are just things I've read, so I could be wrong

will give it a try, thanks

What the hell is the slot at the bottom of the right side? Looks like it comes out...
EDIT:
Just found an X-Acto knife and got it pried out!
It's an 'information card,' so to speak. It's got the serial number and product number on it. That's pretty slick!
Looks like a 3G/4G Touchpad, so its probably the Sim slot.

Nah, I've got a 32GB WiFi Touchpad and it has the slot. It's on all of them. There's a little plastic filler that moves around, but I can't seem to get it out.

Yep. On the 4G model (which is probably never coming out here), it's for a SIM.

I saw a tear down video and they called it a sim card slot.
Lots of HP products have these model/serial tags. Our Proliant servers at work all have them as well. They just pop out when pressed.
Mine pops out with a push as well. SN and MN, no SIM slot. 32GB here.
[Q] Unknown Port South of Volume Rocker
I looked through all of the posts here and couldn't find similar, so don't delete or move.
The area south of the volume rocker that pops out the serial number and FCC info. I have been suspicious of this for some time so I broke mine off. It still slides in and locks in but now I get to remove it.
Well it looks like some kind of port inside. Too big for a card reader unless there is a module that could be placed in the slot. Anybody else looked at this or know what it might be for? Any chance of a mod to make it a SD or MicroSD card reader?
Definitely some kind of expansion port..
okay, wow, this is interesting! perhaps our TP has some hidden qualities, from which we do not know anything yet i´ll stay in touch here...
It's supposed to be a sim card slot, but I forget whether or not most Touchpads have the actual board hardware installed aside from just the port. By the way, what is your TP's model # (from Device Info)?
I may have answered my own question here..
http://www.techrepublic.com/photos/...=11&tag=siu-container;photopaging#photopaging
Probably is a SIM card slot but looks like it wasn't connected to anything but could be room for improvement if anybody is good with that sort of thing..

Hardware Version " A "
This has been known and there is a thread already here. Another user decided to xacto knife his out.
I forgot where I read it, but I'm pretty sure it's a SIM card slot. The casing is the exact same for the upcoming (now-cancelled) TouchPad 4G for At&t. I guess it was a way for HP to cut costs.
it is a placeholder for the simcard slot that would've been available for the touchpad with 3G if HP did not discontinued production. that is all.
it's not a mysterious port, just a safe place to keep your serial number.

This ^. nothing more. Nothing about the "mystery slot" is usable in anyway "as is"
If, in any reach of the imagination a far reached mod involving adding a hardwired hack were possible, maybe, but it would not usable for the masses.
sim card slot ?¿
hi guys , just noticed that my HP touchpad seems to have a misc external slot seems you would put a sim card in there anyone knows what its for ?
its on the same side as the volume rocked at the bottom of the device
Loads of Evo 3D for sale on eBay sold as new, are all these repaired phones, I know the Evo 3D has an touchscreen problem is that where are the eBay phones come from, replace the touchscreen and sell them as new?
I got mine for £49 delivered and it works great, no problems so far but i knew what i was getting, or at least i had an idea, after all the Evo 3D is an 2011 phone, they cannot be still making them.
I got an Otterbox Defender case from eBay for £2.90 as new, as this is an old phone, these use to be like £40 , It make the phone massive and it was big and heavy before.
Anyway i will have a think and ask a few question if this forum is not DEAD.
John.
Turns out my 3D is already S-OFF , so i ran the latest version of kingroot and it said the rooting failed, but my phone is now rooted and i have installed loads of apps that require root.
I need to install Xposed Framwork but the latest version failed to install, anybody know how to get it to work?
Thanks
John.

All the Evo 3Ds you see for sale en mass on Ebay that are labeled "new" or "new other" are all refurbished. It is very rare to find one new in box, and those are the ones you see with ridiculous prices. Sometimes you just have to be lucky and patient in finding a near mint Evo 3D. My first one I bought was from one of those mass lots, and lets say it was a little more than scratched up (the captive lights were shorted and would not turn off even when powered down). The second one I bought here recently was from a private seller and it turned out to be near mint for only 41 bucks!
When you receive a phone already rooted one of two things occurred. Either the previous owner rooted it or the phone at one point caught a virus or 3rd party app that rooted it in secret and was never restored. In the case of the latter S-Off procedures may not work, even when following procedures to re-lock the phone and starting over. Many mods don't even need S-Off, so as long as you have a working mod there is no need to attempt S-Off.
I am not familiar with that App, if the latest version does not work, try an earlier version.
My 3D is virtually perfect, only problem the back capacitive button is half as bright as the others.
Are the micro-sd and micro-sim in different places places on the gsm and the cdma version?
I have had 2 EVO 3D the first i bought from the UK for £90 but the touchscreen was faulty so i got a refund.
Look at the photo below, it has the microsd slot marked twice, are some of these reconditioned phones made out of spare parts

A friend gave me this phone with zero background information and asked if i could factory reset it. I accepted the challenge.
There's a password prompt when you turn the phone on, so i decided to try resetting it with fastboot. Assuming i need to unlock the bootloader I went to sony's site, put in the imei and got the unlock code. Here's what i got:

punching in the *#*# whatever number doesn't work since i get an error due to the password prompt, so i can't tell if the bootloader can even be unlocked in the first place. I'm not even sure if that is required to just do a factory reset to allow me to use the phone. Any ideas?

That's smell the stolen device on here... Prove me that I'm wrong and I will help you, I dislike having no background informations
lol well, to be honest, what I was told was my friend's coworker "found it," but she let him have it after seeing the password screen. It does kinda reek of "stolen" property. And assuming it is, it's actually pretty ironic that I'm in this situation. Got my phone stolen (nexus 6p) on 8/29/16 around 5:30pm (lol i know, never forget) during an interview with a client at my job (i'm a caseworker). Crazy thing is this wheelchair-bound guy with one missing leg managed to leave the building with my phone AND the phone (iphone 6s) of another worker that sat with him before me and then referred him to my department. I dunno about that other worker, but I couldn't track mine down since the data was turned off (was still getting used to project Fi). So I filed a police report. Using my oneplus 2 now.
I really don't want to be on record here carrying out questionable activity (i also use this site a lot) so if that's really the end of the pursuit for this phone due to integrity issues, then fine. But, if it is stolen, they could have blacklisted the IMEI anyway (like I did to mine). However, after coping with losing a phone I bought outright, I would much rather know someone is at least using it in some other country (i heard blacklisting IMEI numbers isn't an international thing) instead of throwing it away because they can't get past the password screen.

Sorry I will not help, but YOU can help the original owner of the device. Remove the Sim, look at the provider name, call them and they will find the owner with the Sim number printed on it. Maybe the owner will give a reward to your friend for that
I'm not here to give lessons but I hope that you will understand why I will not help for that.

Introduction
This is a general discussion thread about our efforts to bring Android to the Nintendo Switch. (This post will see updates, we just wanted to get the ball going)
Current state of the project
The base for this port is LineageOS 15.1. As of now most things you'd expect work. WiFi, Bluetooth, Audio, Dock, JoyCons via Bluetooth only for now. Full sleep does not work yet so battery runtime is not great, but this is something that's being worked on. As of yesterday Android can be booted with the hekate bootloader and entering TWRP works by simply holding VOL- while booting. There is still a bunch of stuff to do until this can see a full release. Especially the setup process is something that's being worked on making simpler.
How to keep in touch
Feel free to ask questions here (apart from ETAs obviously). Once we have a public build we'll open a DevDB project too.
We are currently posting updates on Twitter as we go along at https://twitter.com/switchroot_org
We'll have a Discord server too once the builds go public. A little more patience please.
Posted in the last couple of days by @switchroot_org
Welp, I sold my Switch, now I'll probably buy another Switch... Obviously getting the device stable is the priority at the moment, but I am still wondering if the overclocking feature will also be here for us as well? Since I can't imagine running 1ghz a57 on Android is that great
The remote playing is gonna be so interesting on this
Really, really looking forward to this. Amazing work, keep it up
Overclocking to 1.7GHz (which is actually normal clock really) will be supported. And we just fixed WiFi scanning so you can connect to WiFi normally instead of having to manually enter it.
Regarding remote play: GameStream should work out of the box, Steam Link has been successfully tested, so was Parsec. GeForce Now has an issue still that needs to be worked out so don't expect that in the first release I guess.
Netflix work in this port ?
Hey, sirocyl from switchroot here. One thing I need to make clear, in case you're wondering: Your Switch needs to have an "UNPATCHED" bootrom.
You can use this guide to identify Switches by serial number; if it's manufactured/purchased before approximately June/July 2018, it should be good - but the only way to make sure is by checking the serial!
https://gbatemp.net/threads/switch-...he-first-post-before-asking-questions.481215/
As an owner of a vulnerable Nintendo Switch i'm really excited with the progress been made here, keep up the great work
Twrp and android are inside the microsd or emmc?
Fun times ?
It was only a matter of time. XDA never ceases to amaze me!
Everything is on the microSD. Don't wanna risk Nintendo bans although _in theory_ you could put it on eMMC. We'll never officially support that tho for obvious reasons.
Very interesting, looking forward to seeing how this pans out. Now can I find a switch that can be modded is the question??
Will there be a need for root? Like can you run this on a note 9 without root?

OOOOOOH
Thanks for clarifying!
Will we ever see a wired joycon solution, perhaps influenced by the Lakka port?
At the moment you can either have wired or bluetooth due to issues with the respecting drivers. If one is in, the other breaks (don't remember the exact order). It's not an immediate focus right now now. I'll think I poke around actual sleep support a little this weekend...
Will you give us an option to choose between wired or BT joycon support?
Or are you just staying with BT only, as this option can be used when docked and portable?
I'd personally prefer wired, as I only play in portable. But this is just me.
And one more question - Android will be installed to SD rather than eMMC, and I get it, this is much better overall.
But what about performance? SD card can be much slower than eMMC, should we expect any slowdowns or other issues?
I wanted to thank entire switchroot team and other people associated with this project for their hard work. Especially ByLaws. Guys, this is huge, this is something we need, we can't be grateful enogh. Cheers!
