I have the same problem. Had any luck fixing it? I changed some APN settings in order to fix the 3G (which worked) but now I can't send texts.
It seems to be a problem with the sim card, as I tried putting it into my old phone, and I wasn't able to send texts there either. I am going to get a replacement sim to see if that fixes it.

Ok I think I seem to have fixed the problem (for me anyway).
Go onto the messaging app, hit the drop-down menu in the top right-hand corner and go into settings.
Then press "Text message(SMS)",
Then "SMS Service centre".
Here you need to enter the 'SMS service centre number' for your network (For example, on Talk mobile you enter +44 7785 014 318. For Vodafone you enter +44 7785 016 005). You can find the specific number you need by googling it.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 which i am having a really irritating SMs problem with.
My dad lives in Cyprus, when he sends me an SMS i can not reply, when i try it just says 'sending' then 'failed' . In order to get the text SMS to send to him i have to delete the message thread, then start a new message and it will send. Now if he then replies, i will need to delete the message thread again in order to be able to send him a new message.
I do not have this issue with any other contacts that i am aware. The only difference with my dad is that he lives abroad in Cyprus, and all my other contacts are here in the UK. Has anyone else had this issue? Know what causes it? I have deleted and recreated the contact but still the same.
Many thanks.
Do you have your dad's number stored in contacts with country code or not ? I was on the verge of smashing my phone when i was abroad, trying to call persons in my native country and i couldn't because i didn't have numbers stored with country code. Maybe that's your issue too
I think the problem is related to what SMS server your dad is using, I had same issue with my X-girls phone, no one could direct reply to SMS...
Hi, thanks for the replies.
Sp1tfire, i have changed the number configuration around several times, all with no success.
Fritz, this sounds plausible, however this would surely affect other phones replying? I don't have this issue when using my iphone 4 so it only happens from the Galaxy2 at the minute. I will try and use a colleagues Android phone to text him and test it.
Somehow you, or TSP (Telephone Service provider), have inserted a sms mail server address that is not valid.
here in my country, there has been scams, "cheaper SMS, enter this server setting" and stuff like that, so there is a setting on you phone that is wrong.

Can't be cause of settings, if he can actually send new sms to that number, but he can't reply from the received sms. His settings are correct as long as he can send sms. Must be something else. Are you using default sms app or a third party software ?

I am using the stock SMS app. I have just wiped the phone and installed the KF2 firmware. Going to see if that helps.
Sp1tfire, thats right, i can only reply to him when i delete the existing thread. I can however send new SMS to him no problem, so long as the thread is deleted before hand. Very frustrating as i lose the history every time.
Update, exactly the same on KF2 Firmware.
Ok, so i tried with a friends HTC desire and he has the same issue. also found my brother who has an iphone 3gs is unable to reply to my Dads number. So at least know its no longer just my phone and that it must be something the other end. Many thanks for the help.
Same problem here
When I reply to my girl it says: failed, when i delete the whole thread it goes.
It's only when I text her, all the other contact go fine
On my old sgs I had it to, but only on stock, when I was on CM7 it was OK.
Cant imagine that its something with the other phone i'm sending it to though

I remember in all the previous phones I've had, there's been a setting in the SMSC Settings allowing the user to specify whether or not to "Reply using the same SMSC" (or something along those lines).
If the option is ticked, the phone attempts to reply to the message through the SMSC that the text originally came from (rather than the one set in your handset).
The cause of the error may be because the SMSC overseas does not recognise your phone/SIM and therefore won't allow the replying message to go through.
And perhaps this may explain why deleting the whole thread and restarting a brand new message works - that is, the new message will go through the SMSC that is set in your phone for your own network.
Although, I've had a look through the settings in my SGS2 and can't seem to find that setting anywhere... (doesnt mean it's not there - it could just be that I don't know my phone well enough because I've only had it for a few days ).
I think your dad's SMS configuration settings is forcing you (or any other person he is sending an SMS to) to reply through his operators message centre
Ask him to check his sms settings and disable any such message centre settings from his side. This should solve the problem.

Hi
I recently installed [AOKP-B37][27/05]Resurrection Remix ics v2.0[4.0.4] on my i9100, Battery life and speed are very nice but I found out a problem,
When i am on the conference bridge of my work, we need to dial an 7 digit access code for bridge details. SO I found out that it seems every number I tap in, it says: incorrect number. And I know that the number is correct, because when I dial it with my regular phone it works.
ANybody had this dialer problem also and how to resolve it?
Thx
Kevin
anyone?
Can someone perhaps point me to a new phone.apk that will work on an ICS for Galaxy S2?
Hi, I've got exactly the same problem. I'm in NL and I often use conference bridges from KPN and Microsoft. Both give me the same problem "Invalid acces code". Using another phone works as a charm. I'm using Stock Cyanogenmod 9 latest nigthly and the LPW baseband.
Sometimes i reboot and then it seems to work ... very strange.
If someone knows how to solve, please let me know
Exactly the same problem...
I am facing the exact problem... if some one knows the answer, kindly help. In fact I am planning to buy a new cheap descent phone to address this. Your solution will save me frm managing 2 phones

My real problem for past 1 week is to use what key words to search this problem... I got the clue from Kevain's post (Thanks ) and found the solution:
1. Either turn off speaker phone while dialing conference bridge - worked for me
2. Turn off the Dial pad touch tone (Settings -> Sounds) - worked for me
Reference:
I could not post the reference URL as I am new here, any way google for this "Galaxy Nexus/ICS Dialer and entering of codes - Google mobile help"
Waw, I'm going to try that out, I indeed found out that sometimes the problem is not there, but I never linked it to the speaker phone ...
Good news in any case that there is a workaround!
Thanks a lot for your reply
If you have 20 seconds, please look in your settings and tell me if the Serial Number is displayed anywhere. I've been reverting my phone to stock GB from ICS shostock, and now I cant find my serial number via the settings app anywhere!
Most phones have it displayed in the settings app, but hopefully this one doesn't!
Most of you are probably on ICS, but if any of you are still on GB, let me know if you see your serial number in the setting app anywhere.
Thanks
I'm on stock ics no root ever or any type of mod and I just lookes at the S/N and it says "unknown" maybe is because my phone is unlocked or idk not a real big deal why do u need you s/n to be displayed?

Just checked on my ics complete stock ota and it is also unknown. The only thing I did was sim unlock through at&t code
Yeah, mine was unknown for ICS as well, but I want to do a warranty replacement so I went to gingerbread hoping that would fix my unknown serial number problem and I can't even find where it's displayed!
Does anyone know about this issue I'm sure a lot of people have this issue if so post up here and if anyone has a fix or there is not fix please let us know

The "secret" code for serial number is supposed to be *#0001#.
I'm on SHOstock2 ICS. My serial number shows up as unknown in about phone and the secret code does nothing.
Try the secret code on Gingerbread to see if it will work there. It may be that particular code doesn't work on AT&T variant phones?

Thanks for the answer! Just what I was looking for.
So I think if anyone wants a warrant replacement they will have to go to GB, because there is no "serial # unknown problem"

No I'm on ota att. Ics. Its not our fault its the at&t stock roms.
Yesterday early in the morning my S3 stopped receiving SMS messages. I can send them just fine and I can send and receive MMS. The phone works just fine for calls and the data is working on mobile and also on wi-fi just fine. The only problem I am having is the SMS all of a sudden just stopped working.
I have the S3 I9300 and am using it on the AT&T network. Ive had it for 6 months now without any issues or problems. Its the stock firmware running on it and the device is not rooted/modded/etc..
Any ideas?

Had the same problem over the weekend. I fixed this by checking the message center #, mine was blank. So I did some research and found my carrier msg center # and after that it started working immediately.
Make sure you send a msg to yourself first to initialize it.
Gl and hope it gets fixed.

Still no luck..
This just happened to me for the second time with 2 weeks. It usually is fixed by a rom reinstall. I have yet to find the cause. Both times I have been running crDroid 11. Maybe i have to try another rom?
Could anybody shed any light as to why this happens?
Take your phone and get them to cut you a new Sim card. I had the exact same situation. Got a new sim and it was fine

I'm having the same issue. My messaging center number was correct and I was able to receive data, make phone calls and receive MMS. The last time I had AT&T remove and re-add my messaging plan. A few minutes later all my backed up messages came in. I'm suspecting it might be when I updated my rom (Wanam ZSEMA). I noticed I have not received any sms since the day I updated the rom.
So take that for what it is worth.
Problem is back after a week. Back on my Captivate. Hoping there is something someone knows that is a fix.

Although I had deleted GOOGLE VOICE before the factory reset, a woman in Sprint Tech said that she could see Google Voice on her end. She removed, I restarted, she called me on the office phone and after a few tests, text messages was working again. Problem solved.
Anybody seen this? Only noticed this happens randomly(and comes back to working) since root/unlock of phone. Probably something stupid and easy
I got this as well. seems to have stoped since I went to the TMO site under my account and update my address.

No, just clicked on the profile and then updated the address.
You have to call T-Mobile and update your 911 address. This is for if you make a call to 911 (and wifi call is active) if the call fails BC it was placed over wifi your emergency address is on file for em. Personnel to locate you.
