I tripped my s6 edge's knox today by accident, I was in a hurry to work and wanting to go back to stock my somehow during the upgrade/restore my usb disconnected or maybe the file was corrupted since the last time I used it
So I purchased another s6 edge for the upcoming samsung pay ;/
should I cancel the order or not, because I don't really know what I am really doing at this moment
I'm not sure how we can help you with that question. If you don't know what you are doing and are afraid you'll trip Knox again, yeah, cancel the order and live with a working phone you don't have to worry about and switch to Android Pay or keep using a credit card.
Just for the background info i have Verizon Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. G928V 64GB Black.
I'm on build & software version OG1 or OGI is what it looks like.
because I've wanted to use find Samsung pay but I've held off all the*ota*updates waiting to see if any exploits have led to root on the s6 EDGE+ FOR Verizon.
I sideloaded the samsung Pay app and framework but when i go to run it i get the message a software update is required. Im assuming it will push through the*otasoftware-updates I've been putting it off essentially since i got the phone or 2 weeks after launch. I bought it with a contract discount but its not a financed or leases phone so i own it at least.*
My biggest concern is that i update now and lose the future possibility to root it due security loop hole. I had an S4 and i initially had mdk firmware which you could get more feautures, but without thinking when i received the phone iupdated and lost the MDK version. I just don't want to run into the same situation.
specially with having to take apart the whole phone to take out or replace battery I'm scared or running the update now and then if ivtry to root later It will brick my $750 phone.*
What do you suggest? Should i run the update the samsung pay app offers or should i run the*OTAupdates from Verizon software update menu. Then if anyone finds root or makes an6 other progress in opening up the phone.* i noticed there has been at least 2 ota
Updates ps OG4 & OG9. Im also hoping we get msrshmallow 6.0 sooner with the next*OTA*update after today's*ota*for Samsung pay support. DO you think i would run one update over another or just update to current version that was released today?
Thanks for the help in advance.

Root has been impossible even on the factory firmware that comes on the phone. Hopefully someone will find a way to disable KNOX so we could root (as it's as easy as OEM unlocking the phone through the developer options settings menu and installing a rooted firmware), but so far there hasn't been any progress...

Yeah i know on earlier versions knox could be disabled on s4 and s5. It doesn't help that not only do we have the s6 edge but the edge plus. Our phone represents such a small subset of owners it means its like million times harder to get a phone to a developer that can actually hack it/root it
So i pulled the twist so i can use samsung pay since it finally arrived in my play store as an option. After i updated the first time samsung pay still said i need to update so o updated to the most recent software OJ2.
Are you able to activate it?
So I got my unlocked version from samsung and tried to activate through sprint with the sim card from my s7edge and they are telling me I need to purchase a new sim because this one isn't compatible
What gives?
Had to do the same thing with my S8+ coming from S7 edge. Quick trip to Sprint store with your new phone in hand and they will give you the Sim card and activate it. You probably will not be charged either. I didn't and I bought my S8 from Best buy.

Yes.

is there any reason to buy the sprint version instead of the unlocked phone? Once you activate the phone on sprint doesn't it just download all the bloatware?..
I had an order from Samsung but I'm about to cancel it since people who ordered after me are already getting their phone and I'm still in preorder status
Is anyone going to flash the sprint stock on their unlocked to get carrier functions? Do we need a special version of Odin like the s8+?

what carrier functions are missing? I could be wrong but locked boot loader means no flashing?

We can flash stock software's just like the S8 and S8+ with odin...they are signed....to mix parts of the software they used a different version of Odin,
I was just seeing if anyone is going to try right away...
So i am in NYC and called /stopped by stores and none have the note 8 or sim cards for it.
Sprint is supposedly overnighting the cards to me. so I have a phone that can't active since no sim .

I was genuinely curious I haven't been on android in 4 years and I'm coming back. I have sprint version ordered but like I said I'm about to cancel it... so I can order unlocked version and actually flash firmware later? as long as it's been officially signed?

That's what they have been doing with S8+...check out the S8+ forums and see if it something you want to try...
I had the same problem trying to use my s7e sim. Thanks to a user on reddit I found a solution. You need a new sim. The sim fro the s8 and s8+ will work for the Note 8. Here is the sim info.
SKU: CZ4114LWQ
UPC: 854798005125
Part: SIMOLW416Q
Model: ISIM V2
I had to go to 3 different corporate stores before I found one that carried it.
can someone be specific in any of the missing features or functionality of the unlocked phone when using on Sprint's network?..
my carrier phone order from 8/29 is still stuck in pre order. a big reason I had ordered carrier was to not get stuck waiting and because I assumed the unlocked phone would not operate as well as the carrier phone on sprints network. so, how does it work?
I've had unlocked phones on sprint before. The only big thing I've noticed that's missing is the sprint free wifi calling functionality (it doesn't work very well, so I never use it), and their wifi security app. Everything else is good.
I just ordered an unlocked note 8 (note 7 promotion). My reason for unlocked is I find they hold their resale much better then the carrier specific phones.
Unlocked version:
Hotspot - Awesome
Download Booster - Awesome
No Bloat - Awesome
Wi-Fi Calling - working awesomely
Sprint Version:
LTE Calling - I might miss, might be worth flashing Sprint mod when available...

So if I have Sprint variant is there an unlocked rom lurking around somewhere that I can install?

You can flash the unlocked firmware in the guide section using Prince Comsy's firmware...
so what's the real benefit to buying the unlocked version ? is the bootloader is still locked ?
Hi, as the title says, after flashing the stock ROM I've lost the play store certification and I can't use certain apps.
Is there a way to recover that certification or is it lost forever?
Thanks
Try to deactivate OEM unlock from developer settings. That'll probably help
hi, it worked, i've got my play store certification. The thing is I still can't use some apps,(such as Samsung Pay or Google Pay), and i don't think it's due to the phone tbh. Any ideas?
Did you root your phone? If so, those apps won't work on a stock rom

I tried installing a custom rom and failed with bootloop and went back to stock with no root. I thought this might be the problem but i filed a ticket to google. They said to me that Google Pay is not released yet in Romania, but I have friends who use the app, pretty strange..
Check your Knox status, if tripped you can't use the apps on stock rom
Power down the Galaxy S9 or the Galaxy S9+
Boot the Galaxy S9 into Download Mode
Look for the Warranty Void line in the top left corner
If it reads “0x0” then the warranty has not been voided
If it reads “0x1” then the Galaxy S9 Knox warranty has been voided

He might be able to still use Android Pay though. But Samsung Pay and Samsung Pass are lost forever until someone finds a work around, which is very unlikely.

Hi all!
I bought my S23 Ultra (and a Galaxy Watch 5 Pro) in Poland, right after launch.
It was configured in PL, but with UK/British region and my Samsung account used on the device also is set to the United Kingdom.
I live in the UK but I'm not able to use Samsung Pay - after installing the app it just says it's not available yet.
I asked Samsung Support about a way to make the Samsung Wallet work, but they just said that "it won't work" as the device is from an unsupported region.
The Samsung Pay app on my Galaxy Watch 5 Pro, on the other hand, works without any issues right after installation.
I'm wondering if there is a way for me to enable this feature on this device. Maybe I should flash some "UK-based" ROM? Maybe some clever terminal command could help?
My current OneUI version:
One UI version: 5.1
• Current version: S918BXXU1AWC8/S918BOXM1AWC8/ S918BXXU1AWC8
• Security patch level: 1 April 2023
Thanks a lot in advance for your help!
There's several guides on here, even for this device, on how to change your CSC to a compatible region. That should fix your problem.
Why not to use google wallet with G pay?

Well, for a couple of reasons:
1) Google Pay is much less reliable than Samsung Pay
2) Samsung Pay gives you a nice handy shortcut to launch it from the lock screen without the need to use corner apps shortcuts
3) Samsung Pay offers features like Transport Card in the UK
4) I just prefer the UI and it loads faster
I do not have to open gpay, just light up the screen to pay, also you can add all loyalty cards, tickets etc but probably just self preferences.
It's not possible, since Samsung double check your country with the device's country to avoid this.
Not a problem since I've been always using Wallet (ex GPay).

Well, it is. I just changed my CSC to INS (India) and Samsung Pay (or Wallet? I've lost track at this point) is working! I just need to add a card and check if I can pay.

It does. I was able to add a card to Samsung Wallet.
The process is a bit tricky since the device have to be rooted which can be risky and can affect your warranty.
Do follow the steps accordingly:
Root the Phone
Download and Install Samsung Pay APK
Install any VPN and Change your current location
*This should enable Samsung Pay*
Next, Add your Payment Card
After adding you will be able to make payment using Samsung Pay

Well, simply changing the CSC worked and it doesn't require a root.
I don't think that rooting a phone to be able to use it for payments isn't the best idea.

I'm late to this reply but gpay and Samsung pay are totally different technologies. Samsung pay works on most card swipe terminals without needing the merchant to have compatible hardware, the magnetic stuff for Samsung pay mimics the magnetic strip on a card. Gpay requires the merchant to update their pos terminals to include gpay hardware.

No, just that Samsung wallet has dropped support for MST starting with S21. So, less support for terminals

Thanks. I've never bothered using Samsung pay or Google wallet. I have these days set up Google wallet and wondering now which is better.
So they are basically the same more or less, right? Or Samsung pay has some advantages?

Earlier Samsung Pay was better because of MST support but as said above it was dropped couple of years ago. Now GPay is working fine even on rooted device.

Yes, it does work for me on your ROM. I just needed to know if Google wallet can be used on less terminals compared to Samsung pay. Looks like it's the same. Thank you.
