So whats the big deal of tripping knox?
I was thinking about it throughout the day and could not come to a conclusion as to why one would want to keep it at 0x0.
My phone is insured with Sprint's monthly insurance plan. If anything goes wrong, I can bring it into Sprint and they will attempt to fix or replace it. So what's the big deal of knox?
They may refuse to service your phone if they so desire but this is dependent on them checking for it and ultimately caring whether or not you have the Knox flag tripped. Personally I'm with you, I could care less and rooted my phone within the first 30 minutes I had it.

Has anyone called Sprint to see what there policy is regarding the matter?

I doubt sprint would care. To get this phone I used the new One up program and had to give them back my s3 and it was rooted with a custom ROM on it

I've read several posts where sprint users have sent in their GN3's for various bricks they've caused and not had any issue that they've reported...that I've read at least. I'm not too concerned. If they check and tell me no...I have insurance on it...so I'll just run the *amn thing over with my car and pay the stupid deductible and get a new one in the worse case scenario

If you look up Samsung's KNOX page it seems clear that it is a security feature. Hacked phones could be a vulnerability to a secure business.

I told the sprint guy I rooted my phone when my wife bought hers and when I came in to upgrade mine he didn't hesitate to trade it in. He even asked if it as still rooted. I actually gave it to my daughter instead but he asked if I was going to root my note and I said most likely... He could care less..

Sprint has an "open" policy. We aren't trained to look for root, I can't speak for the techs. But honestly, if your a **** and try to lie to me I'll send you to a tech.. tell me you are rooted and you bricked the phone.. I'll order you another... I bricked my phone and I had mine replaced.. I even told my manager how I bricked it.. most reps don't even know how to get into recovery..
Sent from the phone that says N3!
if you are with sprint, if you read the Sprint TOS that you signed when you got the phone it says that rooting will not void your warranty they just ask that u put it back to stock when upgrading or having service done to it. Who has ever went to upgrade their phone and the rep put it in to download mode to check something like that? And when I had my s2 rooted and needed service on the ear piece I just left cm 10 and all my stuff just the way it was and they never said anything to me about it.

Bricked with 0x0
Sprint refused to service my phone today even with the Knox Flag set as 0x0. I had it stock rom rooted and I was having issues with certain apps. I did a factory reset and still had issues. I tried using Kies to restore and now I have a useless device that says firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies and try again. Does anybody have any suggestions? I took it into Best Buy to a Samsung rep was and he couldn't even fix the issue. Literally want to cancel sprint after this.

Do you have Sprint insurance? Since Sprint wants to be a$$holes two can play at that game. Pull the battery and tell them you lost it. Pay the $200? deductible for a new one and sell the other one on eBay. New phone and make a profit off the screwed up phone. You didn't hear this from me....

What reason did they give for refusing to service your phone?

The tech looked at picture on the phone (the phone yellow triangle and computer) said it was bricked and I "must have tried to root". He did not even actually look at the phone as the KNOX counter was still 0x0. That store everyone was a POS and just walked off and completely ignored me. I told them too that I had only had the phone for 5 days and they said that they couldn't touch the phone because they would get in trouble with Sprint. So yesterday I took it into another Sprint repair store and they had to add insurance on it for me to swap it out with a new one. Pretty lame but at least I have a phone that works now.

Which puts me correct to say that as long as you have Sprint insurance you should get it replaced if anything happens. So rooting and knox trigger shouldn't matter.

You gotta re flash a recovery. At least that's what happened to me.
Kies won't be able to recover this.. my phone didn't get recognized by my pc.

Do you have a link to the stock recovery?

Did you try PC Odin flashing the newly released mj4 full tar.md5? After that finishes, and the phone boots up, do a full factory reset within the phone OS (not in custom or stock recovery). If you can get it into download mode, then you should be able to full flash it back to stock. It won't reset the counter but it should get the phone working.

Sorry I don't I flipped knox after 2 hours of getting the phone. So I'm using TWRP
I rooted and flashed a rom on my I9300 Galaxy S3. I recently had the sudden death issue where my phone won't turn on or charge after it froze. Since i cannot do anything to my phone i won't be able to unroot it and lock the bootloader. So should i bother send my phone to samsung or will they say that i voided the warranty and they cannot do anything.
Thanks. I think its a physical issue within the phone and wondering if it stops me from being able to submit a request.

if you would have had a look at the guides you would know, it def. voids warranty, despite the EU ruling which says rooting does not void it, whereas the limited warranty of manufacturers is not included in this ruling if I am not wrong. you can try sending it in though, what you gonna loose?

then keep your brick or try to get it fixed at some 3rd party shop if they can
Why would you want to unlock the bootloader ???
That leads to the question do you actually have a I9300 .
Suggest you actually take the time to read the faqs and guides.
If it is SDS then you need a new motherboard .
If it is SDS Samsung will repair under warranty but may reject warranty due to rooted phone .

Yea i have a i9300. Its rooted and has a custom rom flashed on it. Im pretty sure its affected by SDS as it shares the same symptoms. Can't do anything to the phone and i have warranty left. I might just try my luck and bring it to Samsung.
I sent my phone in to Samsung for warranty work (charging port broke) but they wouldn't fixed it because it was rooted. Am I screwed here or can I just unroot and resend it in (and maybe argue with them)?

Don't know about Samsung, but you might be able to contact sprint and have them send a new phone, they might cover it. Samsung will look to see if Knox is tripped but from what I have read from people, more positive than not, sprint could care less if your phone is rooted. To be on the safe side, I would restore to stock if they say you can send it in.

Moved to Q&A. General consensus is Sprint might give some trouble, Asurion claims generally have not.
If you rooted the phone and then I reset back to factory but it won’t allow me to use Samsung Pay as there is a msg because your phone is rooted.
Is there a fix for it.
Thank you

Hello,
I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ W/ model # SM-G965U has security patch from Feb. 2018..
I believe it is original VZW phone due to boot up images, etc.
Ultimately I want to root my device after first experiencing root with my Google Pixel XL, loved it.
Anyways, I keep reading that it isnt possible due to the variant of Galaxy that I own.. is this true?
I just need someone to tell me yes or no, and hopefully if so, point in the direction of the offical files needed.
Any information pertaining to this would be greatly appreciated and to give appreciation to all who have made this possible.
Thank You,
LV OB
It is true, root is not possible. The only thing you can do is flash the phone to different U.S. carriers or make it like a generic U.S. factory unlocked model.
Root is not possible even if the phone is paid off in full with it being unlocked from the carrier itself?

Paying the phone off and having it unlocked only means that you can use it on other carriers.
It has nothing to do with unlocking the bootloader or allowing the phone to be rooted.
Ain’t gonna work.
I miss the golden days.
