Water issue - OnePlus X Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello, Today i used my oneplus x to click some pics while it was raining...so it got exposed to some moisture and bit of water. It is working without any issues, but its speaker is not function upto its maximum, before it was working fine, any suggestions will be helpful

Lean the device up with a towel under it so the speaker is facing down. Power off the device and let it dry for a while. Even on water resistant devices (which the OPX is not by the way, don't use it in the rain unless you need to) the speaker will get water sitting on the speaker cone which either dampens it or stops it from working entirely until it dries.

i have kept it in a newspaper and will wait for like 2-3 days so that it dries up, can i use a hairdryer or any heat device to dry it up?

Put it in rice, since it's hygroscopic.

Had the exact same issue.. Except my microphone got ruined. I kept my phone under rice and left it overnight . DO NOT USE HAIR DRYER !
It will ruin your phone.

[Q] water damage?

Good morning everyone. This morning was not a good morning for me, as I was feeding and watering my dog my phone slipped out of my jacket pocket and dropped into the dogs water bowl. It was in the water for less than a second, initially everything seemed fine there was barely any water behind the battery cover so I dried all that out and shook the phone to make sure there was no water in it's ports. Then shortly after that its USB port started going wonky(started acting like I was connecting USB cable and disconnecting it over and over), and my touch buttons at bottom of screen seem to stop working which makes doing anything damn near impossible. The USB plug seems to work as I've got it plugged up and its charging fine, but now my PC says USB unrecognized device. What I want to know is will these things work themselves out, is there something I can do to help them, or am I screwed?
Thanks for helping.

It is more then likely ruined. When ever a phone gets wet you should immediately remove the battery and put the phone In A large bag of rice for 3 days. No less then 72 hours and you have a very good shot at being OK. For phones that have been completely submerged and are water logged I would do 3 days of rice and then a quick dip In rubbing alcohol and then another day of rice. The alcohol prevents corrosion on the electrical solder connections. I hope you have insurance. You can try the rice now but since you supplied voltage to a wet circuit the damage is done. O and when I say a quick dip in alcohol I mean remove the screen and only dip the circuit board.

Thanks for the reply, but I think I got lucky. My USB port has stopped acting up and I was actually able to see contents of my phone thru the pc. Also my buttons are working fine again maybe there was a slight bit of water crossing circuits and it finally dried up.
The best way to dry it up, if it ever happens again is to use uncooked rice. Put the phone (with the cover open and the everything pull out) in the container with the rice covering it. Depending on how wet it got, it might take a few days ( 2 - 4) for it to completely dried up.

Arent you also supposed to put it in the sun, so it heats up and evaporates the water from inside the phone and then the rice absorbs it... or is that old news and overkill?

The sun only dry the outside part of the device. There will be moisure inside device (sometime) that will stay for a while. In order to get rid of the moisure from the inside of the device (if it is excessive water got in) is to use the rice.
In this case it might be excessive and overkill (since the device still works). But then I have mentioned that if next time. Sorry that I didn't indicated that if the device won't come on after sun drying, then use this method...

I think you misunderstood him... he's not saying put the phone in the sun, he's saying put the bowl of rice with the phone in it in the sun. That supplies heat which facilitates the process of water evaporating. I wouldn't leave it in direct sunlight though, just in a warm place near a window maybe.
mine dropped in toilet
2 days in rice with small bag of desiccant inside of phone(take battery out)
desiccant will dry out faster
I'd use some Lysol after that one

When mine fell in a cup of water, I put it in a bowl of rice, and then put the bowl over a scentsy warmer. The small light bulb in the warmer gently heated the bowl, without getting it too hot.

I just had my phone "waterproofed" by a company last week, just in case. A friend of mine demonstrated the effectiveness on his iphone 4 and I instantly wanted to have it too as I use my phone as a GPS unit on my motorcycle. I live only a few minutes away and walked in to have it done. I can't attest to their shipping: http://www.liquipel.com/

A few phones ago I tried the rice rescue method, but after a couple of days the rice caked up around the device and was a bother to try to chip away. Later, someone pointed out that I should not have cooked the rice.
I dropped plenty of phones in different liquids.
Nokia in a cup.of crown
Lg I'm the tub
Samsung in the washing machine this one was my i777
Samsung in the toilet
HTC in the toilet
and the rice trick had always worked for these expect for my bb curve. My daughter was slubbing all over it. it's Been a few months and it's still not working

[Q] My mom dropped her Photon in a bucket of soapy water months ago...

Like 6 -7 months ago,
Okay, so my mom dropped her Photon in a bucket of soapy water while she was trying to wash her car. She immediately took out the battery and tried to get most of the water out. She also put it under a fan to dry out for about 3-4 hours... then she plugged it in to charge! 0_0 (I wasn't there to tell her not to plug it in yet...) Few minutes after, I came home from school and she told me. I immediately rushed upstairs and unhooked it from the charger, and took out the battery. We put it in rice and left in there for some days. Finally I had the courage to plug it in. When I did, NOTHING. My mom mentioned something about it saying RSD protocol or something. At that point, I lost all hope and stashed it in the dead phone pile.
9/15/2012
I plugged the phone in, the green LED lit. I feel a vibrate, the 4 capacative buttons light. I hit the volume toggles; I hear the Android ding! Vibrate and LED also works! But guess what? The screen is just black... When you plug the Photon into the computer, you hear the notification sound on the Photon, and Windows detects it as:
USB Mass Storage Device
Motorola MB855 USB Device
Motorola MB855 USB Device
Even when booting up, you don't see the red Moto logo, it's like the LCD is dead. I even think the touchscreen functionality is dead too. I really believe now that I can bring this baby back to life somehow. Guys, what can I possibly do?
Maybe try replacing the LCD and digitizer. There should be parts for it on amazon. Its a pain to replace it though. Lastly, make sure that that the motherboard doesn't have signs of corrosion. Otherwise, you'll start to notice the phones performance degrade over time and eventually give out

That's so funny.. I can't imagine a mother talking about RSD.
I'm sure you can find spare parts on Amazon or eBay, but you can always send it to Motorola and pay for fixing it.
If you decide to fix it by yourself, be careful. After I opened my Photon I couldn't use the power button, and I wasted hours on trying to fix it.
I had a similar issue a week ago, my phone was knocked off a table into my pool. I jumped in after it, clothes and all, and picked it up off the bottom.
I immediately threw it out of the pool, yeah, threw, jumped out and did a battery pull. I let is sit in rice for a few days, opened it up, and scrubbed the contacts on the mobo with a firm toothbrush and 90% isopropyl. It's been a week to the day, and everything is running fine except the proximity sensor. So the only issues I'm having now is when I am in a call, the LCD shuts off, and obviously the screen goes non-responsive.
The proximity sensor is constantly reading that something is close.
Not to derail the thread, but any suggestions on that?
To un-derail the thread, there are only 8 torx head screws holding the phone together, took me only about 20 mins or so to open my mopho to the mobo. if you thing it's worth it, take a look and see what you can see on yours.
use hair dryer
whenever my phones got in contact with water, I used a hair dryer to dry the phones. it worked all the time.

Ah, but here's the thing, It has been dry for a week now.
I consider the phone saved, and everything is working just as it did before it went swimming, save for the proximity sensor.
water damage repair
Ok i repair cell phones all day and for water damage you need to remove the motherboard and soak it in alcohol for 20 minutes then take a tooth brush and scrub the whole board to remove all the corrosion and do the same to the lcd and digitizer connections its a 50/50 shot
No help on a workaround for my busted proximity sensor? I can't use the keypad when making calls.

[Q] Need Help!!! Droid Razr waterdamaged powers on but will not boot

Was pushed in the pool with phone in my pocket. Was under water for max 20 seconds. Phone screen flickered and powered down. Immediately removed cover, battery and dried. Was then left in uncooked rice overnight. Battery charges, however when I go to turn the phone on its stuck on the word DROID in white. I tried to hold volume + - and Power to restart and recover but nothing seems to work. I am not a Android expert or developer, but competent enough to follow direction.
Researched problem online, downloaded latest Verizon ICS ROM, Android-SDK, ADB and RDSLite5.6. However when I select AP Fastboot and connect phone to computer with ABD running, I am not seeing the device in RDSLite. Also device is not detected in ADB.
Any help would be really appreciated, I just got this phone a week ago as a replacement.
Try mattlgroff's RAZR utility to fast boot the stock .211 software. Less room for operator error than the adb method.

You can't totally dry it with rice. You can just take out moisture. When water dries it leaves traces that still make short circuit. I had my razr dropped in the sea and couldn't do nothing for day's until I came home. What you have to do is dismantle your phone and dip it in 98% alcohol, but first protect your microphones with some strong adhesive tape ( wrap them good), if you can acquire the one used for phone because its strong and it wont let alcohol through to damage them. For the best results use ultrasonic tank filled with 96 or 98% alcohol or other solution for electronics. I used 96% alcohol. Only damage I got on my phone is a broken ear speaker from sea water witch can be replaced. Everything else works.

This. Leave it in a non cold place for as long as you can. It should evaporate pretty quickly, but still would rather err on the side of safety. At least it sounds like it's not completely trashed.
You can leave it as long as you want to dry, but there will always be water residues that still conduct electricity, That is what you have to clean. The longer you use your phone like this the more damage will be made which some can't be repaired later on. Better be safe than sorry. Clean it like I wrote it and you will be ok.

Phone Fell In Puddle--Screen Dim On One Side, Fine On Other Side

Hey everyone...so there was a bad rain storm in the area today and I had my phone on my lap while I was driving. Long story short I forgot it was there and when I parked I got out and my phone fell off my lap right into a puddle. It was totally submerged for roughly 5-8 seconds. I immediately ran into the house with it, took the case off (Incipio case), and pulled the battery out. It looked like the only places water had gotten to was the headphone jack, micro-USB port, the earpiece, and SIM and microSD slots. After removing the battery I began to hit all the areas where water could have gotten in with a blow dryer. I even unscrewed the screws from the back and took the back housing off to reveal the board inside. I was able to lift the board slightly but not a lot because I didn't want to rip the ribbon cables off of the front. After blow-drying it for quite some time everything seemed to be dry. I then put the battery back in and powered it up. The phone booted fine, I had service, all seemed fine. I was able to send/receive calls and texts and I could hear people fine and they could hear me. I tested WiFi, GPS, etc. everything seemed to work fine. The only thing I noticed is the LCD is dim on one half of the screen and brighter on the other side. I am wondering if as time goes on it will go away or if this is permanent LCD damage that I will just have to live with? Any ideas on anything I can try to get the LCD working 100% again? Thanks everyone in advance!
waiting
mine was also submerged last night for about the same time. I took it apart completely and now it's laying in front of the fan before I go to work. Hopefully I'll be able to post back here later that mine works too!!

HELP for Htc One Max In a Water :(

Hello, I dropped the device in water. When it out of the water, it worked. I thought it was wet inside. Then I made a big mistake. I turned it to charge because I had no battery. Now the phone does not work. When I turn on the charger starts to vibrate without without interruption. I'm asking for help?
did you submerge it completely? stick it in a bag of uncooked rice. It helps to absorb all the water inside. I fumbled my max into the sink but thankfully it only got partially wet. the phone was partially submerged from the bottom of the phone up to the top of the bottom speaker. I didn't turn it off or plug it in for several hours. During that time, i had it in a large zip lock bag full of uncooked rice. It lived except for the bottom microphone. the phone is still usable though.
