Make sure you can unlock the bootloader on the phone you are about to purchase.
First, you should confirm that it is possible to unlock the boot loader of your phone by checking the service menu. In your phone, open the dialler and enter *#*#7378423#*#* (*#*#SERVICE#*#*) to access the service menu.
In your phone, tap Service info > Configuration > Rooting Status. If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked.

I havent see the specs, have to chec kit out. But im not aiming the most expensive, somewhere around xperia s xD
should be pretty much the same.. the specs are:
both sporting a 4,6 inch HD 1280x720p display
1,5ghz snapdragon s4 processor(way better and efficient than the S3 found in the S) + adreno 225(compared to 220)
the TX seems to have a removable battery and a sd card slot but i aint sure

what he means is that you should wait a little for the better choice rather than buy something which would be old after a month

XPeria S is a nice phone. Great camera, great display, snappy performance. More than capable of running Jellybean.
The latest firmware fixes the vast majority of annoyances and bugs. No real reason to NOT get one, if this is the form factor you like.
i haven't said it wasn't nice on the contrary, i'd love to have it i just said what the person said - a month isn't much if he doesn't want it badly, just that way he can get something even better

I would say get any other new Sony model that doesn't have the capacitive button annoyance. If you like XS design wait for SL. I am hoping they will fix the issue in the new model. Else, go for the newer models. I seem to like Acro S design better than new models.

acro S also use capasitive, but worst battery life compare to T,TX,J
I'd compare with newer models, there's not much difference,
Help me analys,
at least:
1ghz
512mb
5mp camera with face/smile detect
4inch
And cheapest among those phones.
Should i buy an xperia acro S or thr galaxy s3 LTE dual core version with 2GB RAM ?
Or better yet stick with my iPhone 4s ?

But you can text easily tho right?
All I want is to be able to text as quickly via the messengers and all as I can currently on my Ray(a mere 3.3 inches :/).
Does the swiping help?
You can easily text with one hand, yes. I might only send 50 texts a month so someone with more "practice" should have an easier go of it.

Not Z2 User but XZU user but if i ever gone back to a smaller handset, that would be 10 out of 10 b^_^d or the worst, 8 out of 10 i guess.. the point is, you will be adapted to the handset eventually, no need to fret about the size..
Using the Xperia Z1 Compact and Samsung S3 as reference points, I would rate one-hand usability of the Z1 Compact as 10, the S3 as an 8 and the Z2 as a 6 or 7.
However, there are ways to make it easier to use the Z2 with one hand. If you have Nova Launcher installed for instance, you can swipe downwards anywhere on the homescreen to pull down the notification bar; no need to reach all the way to the top. And if you install the Touchpal keyboard app, the app allows you to shrink the keyboard to one side of the screen for enhanced one-handed usage.

The stock Sony keyboard allows for a shrinking as well. I'm actually very impressed with the stock keyboard....I put it on par with SwiftKey, the predictive text is excellent.
By comparison for example....
S3 8
HTC One M7 8
Nexus 5 8 or 9
Z2 6
It's the added few mm of width that do me in....I don't have small hands at all and I ever feel on the verge of dropping it trying to reach around one handed. Having said that, I have quickly adapted to use two hands for things I used to use one. I have no trouble texting with one hand.

I'll be upgrading from a Xperia Ray, which is only 3.3"
But yes, I tried Z1 in a store and I found it very easily usable with one hand(seems like I have big hands in such case ) , the only issue I had was reaching the notification bar as you mentioned. Its not like I had to use second hand to reach it but I had to do hand aerobics to reach up there, so I was still able to pull it down using only my right hand. Z2 is almost the same size as Z1.
And yup its true about the Nova launcher, I use it even on my Ray, the gestures feature is just awesome!
Talking of touchpal, I'm sure Z2 keyboard has one hand mode too, because I tried Z1 and it had the "one hand mode" where it shrinks the keyboard to a side as you mentioned.
I'm trying to get use to the size of this thing I've had it just about a week I'm really hoping I get use to it I really like the camera and screen and it was not cheap...I still have my z1 compact that I'm really starting to miss

starting to get antsy about a new phone around this time of year and was wondering about a z ultra 2
Yes, we should. DoomLord said that we won't see an Ultra 2, while some othrr info says we will, but we should've seen something by now. A leak or something, but we haven't seen anything at all, so I'm starting to think that we won't see a Ultra 2.

Maybe they replace it with the t2 ultra...so z ultra 2 wont be coming...maybe..
Sent from my C6833 using Tapatalk
it would have to be a large screen otherwise what's the point? i'd have to go back to samsung. not sure who else would do a phone that's comparable tbh
I have been saerching through the net and emailing Sony but there are absolutely no response. 1st gen Z Ultra is a very decent phablet with few problems that can be solved. Sony is making a mistake by discontinuing this product. There will be no rival phablet against the note series this year if Sony does not release ZU 2. Big mistake. Such a nice phone going to dust. If I can find Jun Katsunuma's mail I will be mailing him everyday.
Check out this. It lists three codenames for coming Sony devices. Leo and Aires, which probably are respectively Z3 and Z3 Compact, and Pegasus, which is unknown. Possibly an Ultra? I wouldn't be too worried, anyway. I agree that our Ultra is still an excellent device and will hold up very well until the next evolution in SoCs (64-bit), at which point we'll probably get a successor.
There will be no direct successor or Xperia Z Ultra 2. However, there will be a newly named item with a slightly smaller screen (6.2") with all the top end hardware and specs. There will also be a 5.4" version. Here's what Sony has developed and will put to use shortly:

My contract is up in October and eligible for a free upgrade in August so a new Ultra would tie in nicely but I'm sceptical as to whether we'll see a successor. The original device was fantastic but I can only feel it missed the boat on so many aspects and with low shipping numbers I'd be surprised if Sony dare to venture into the market again.
However, if Japan Display have just announced a 6.2" unit it will have to appear on some phone, some time so lets hope it's Sony.
An IR Blaster and 13mp rear facing camera would be welcome with an LED flash.

Hi guys!
Unfortunately I totally broke my Z2 a month ago, just by dropping it from my pocket (wow). Now I want to stuck with sony devices and I only have money for another Z2 or a Z3, they are the same price.Which one should I go for? I dont care about the +200MHz in the Z3. I don't like the speaker cut outs on the Z3 and the notification LED is also not really great, however the device is newer and the shape of it is better. Any opinions?
I definitly would choose the Z2, especially because of the more color accurate display, the Z3 has a horribly blueish tint (and yes, you could calibrate the whitepoint, but this reduces the maximum brightness and the contrast ratio).
I also read a lot of customer complaints about the glass on the rear of the Z3 just cracking out of the blue.

Both phones are going to be dead in the next months or so, no Android "N" for them. I would avoid them, but if you can only spend so much I would buy the Z2 again.
I wouldn't recommend buying both, since these devices are getting outdated soon. I love my XPERIA Z2, but like people say.... Other devices are a better choice right now.
All android devices will be outdated in a year or year and a half, what are you talking about? Why is that even relevant? If you deem a software update worth your 650 dollars then go for it, im fine with 5.1 and a little more money in my pocket for more relevant things than a smartphone toy.
Well I don't care about getting updates for the next 2 years. They will get android M and I will be completely fine.I don't want to pay much more for example a Z5.And of course I can always install a custom rom which is based on a newer android version.
Z2 but for me I wish I did get Z3 for dual sim so depend on your need.
I would buy a z3. It's unofficial development is a bit better than z2. But beside this I love the way look z2 if unofficial development is not that important to you buy an z2.
Z3 is better

I really like the XA's look, unfortunately it is quite weak. However the XA Ultra seems to have some good specs although I'm not familiar with it's cpu. How is MediaTek MT6755 compared to Snapdragon 801 in the Z3?
How big of a downgrade would this be? Can we also compare it to the Nexus 5X since it's similarly priced?

If you compare every ford automobile to the GT-40 they will all come up short. I have been waiting for this phone to come out. It has a true 6 inch screen, hard to find these days. Any body who calls a phone less than 6 inches a fablet is a idiot . For what you get for the price the only complaint is the battery.

I think it is a significant downgrade. MediaTek was on the Xperia C5 Ultra, and there is a noticeable lag, but I'm a kind of person that leaves 40+ webpages open and forget to clear out my multi task applications. Supposedly the new MediaTek is smooth with no hickups, I just got my phone today, so we'll see. I came from using the Xperia Z Ultra, which was a SnapDragon beast, I followed Sony's phablet 6-inches lineups from the Z Ultra, T2 Ultra, C5 Ultra, now finally to the XA Ultra. I think the Z Series are strong performing phones. The X series is really for first-time Android buyers, but never had an iPhone. Really, I think it's suited for the Indian 3rd world market, because 16 GB of internal storage fills up so fast! Practically Sony is making throw away phones that will last only a year on the market. Because storage space is the largest issue with this internal storage debacle! No one can really maintain a slim-line storage. That takes an minimalist when there are so many apps to download, and all these alternative photo apps Snapchat and Instagram images go straight to internal and there's save-management to SD Card for these kinda 3rd party apps.
A 6-inch screen calls for stream apps! Yet those apps are huge in file size! I use more that 5 streaming apps... Because my cable app doesn't do it, and each broadcasting show has their own independent app, and you sign in with your cable subscription. It really kills me that I have so little storage to work with. Also the Netflix-s alike.
I am rooting for Sony like a cheerleader, but they need to get it together with the spec choices. A 16GB SD Card on the market now is about $10. To think the internal chip is less than that at wholesale. I keep asking myself, why am I buying a 10 dollar phone for $230? It should really be 128GB and cut the crap.
In conclusion if you're coming from a Z series, and thinking about it... The design is nice, if you want the whole 6-inch screen experience, you will sacrifice a lot and curve your storage by using external and cloud storage. Even then you will have problems moving files back and forth because of Google and SD Storage transfer file restrictions and can only do so when you plug your cellphone in your computer.
Honestly I would just wait for the next flagship phone coming from another Z series phone or the current Z5 series, and this can be a 2nd phone for play (like one those mobile reviewers)

Go to settings/location and tap the three dot menu, and then turn off scanning always available inc when screen is off for WiFi and Bluetooth. I've turned it off in settings WiFi advanced aswell. I've also enabled greenify's agressesive doze and doze on the go via adb so now doze kicks in in minutes instead of hours

Amazon has the XA Ultra for $298 now for the US. Compare that to their $600+ flagship, lol.
Does XA Ultra support quick charge?

The xa range does I think, though my xa charges from empty to full in about a hour hour and half tops on the standard supplied Sony charger.

The normal xa supports quick charging so I would imagine the xa ultra does too. Only supplied with a stock Sony charger though(in UK) it'll still charge from zero to full in about a hour though.

I stand corrected, its very strange how they would not include a quick charger in the box

Ive had mine for 2 days now and i think it destroys the Z3 in every way aprt from the sound chip ie no built in noise cancellation for supporting headphones and sound quality via headphone jack isnt as good but thats a mute point for me as i now have bluetooth headphones. No waterproofing on the xa ultra either.

If you are rooted you can try Viper4Android for having better sound, it have many settings :good:
Above all if there is one thing that has impressed me with this phone it's the display. It's just very nice to look at. It has very deep blacks which makes the display feel like an Amoled from time to time. The contrast is also very good because of the deep blacks. It's just very easy on the eyes and smooth to look at and has less of the "glowing" sensation that I think many LCD's has and mine has very good color uniformity also. I truly enjoy its display.
