Yes. Works great.
Post a picture.
This might be a silly question, but it can't flash kernels can it?
It installed and I did a backup which took some time. I've no sources or anything. While it seems to work, I have no idea what else may come with it. But it works.

If this isnt fake than yes it could flash kernels, we don't have kernel source from LG yet though
Although, I'm not flashing this. until one of the people who made root a possibility points us to a recovery I won't be flashing one

Wow, this could be major then, Is LG usually good about releasing their kernel sources?

Just wait, even if it works what can you do with it?
We have no projects being worked on

Sounds Promising! I'll wait to mess with a while until I see more 985 users report good things. :good:
So I wonder if GooManager with work then

I've flashed a font and made a backup. It works. However, I'd at least wait until a name you know says "yes, this is safe".

From the looks of this, you just followed instructions from this thread here now, even though this appears to have worked, I would not suggest going through with actually flashing anything or making backups.
The reason is partitions are different across some of the G3 devices and it would not be a smart idea to risk flashing something to a wrong partition, especially since there are 16 and 32 gb models.
With that, it looks like there is a bypass on the VZW model which is a good sign for future use.
so bootloader is unlocked??

Yes we can. This is no different than flashing a custom ROM using safestrap on a Samsung product. I don't think you guys realize how big this is. While its not a boot loader unlock, we will be able to flash custom Roms based on factory ROM.
Hoping we get Aosp soon.
Hi all

Att Galaxy Alpha g850a came with a locked bootloader. Locked bootloader, no root. No root, no device development.
If you get another variant of the device, there are a few custom roms based on stock touchwiz.

Ok thanx for answering, Dont know which version we have in europe, but i might not get a alpha at this time, a shame.
You can consider galaxy j7 as an option (If it's available in your country). It has decent power and is less costly than alpha

Yeah 2 Roms.. No kernels, no miui, no color os. No rro layers them Roms. No Roms om needrom.com
Alpha is out of the question now. Development just to bad
Sent from my Optimus G using XDA Free mobile app
Imho I think it's not that bad, we got the best roms available for the 850f. (I didn't like miui), I tried most famous ones and ended up with resurrectionRemix on my previous phone. Which I loved (once I found my way in all the little settings )
We got different kernels too and the 850F is rootable, all together this is enough "choice" for me.
If you want the most choice in roms and kernels go for the S-series.

Progress!
Alright, we could start seeing some progress on root/custom ROMs soon. With those things, I'd have no reason whatsoever to even consider the OnePlus 3
Just the kernel I think.
Does this include everything needed for a custom ROM? Camera HAL? Fingerprint sensor driver?
This isn't progress. This is kernel source. Axon Pro's kernel source was also released.

Except this time around they're actually considering unlocking the bootloader. With everything they announced thus far, it seems like it could really be true. Of course, they can always change their mind about it later.

Wouldn't this help with development if the bootloader does get unlocked? Obviously it's useless to us at the moment if half of us still don't have the phone in our hands.

If you wanted to compile your own kernel, sure. There is nothing here to base a rom off of though. Bottom line is its useless without a boot loader unlock, no matter how many of us have the phone in our hands.

The kernel source code is what's needed from the manufacturer for custom Roms. Everything else can be extracted from the device. This can give a developer a headstart on device trees before the bootloader unlock.

That's a good start now we just need someone to come out and play around with it.
Is it possible to have multible roms installed in honor 7? I mean like that i can switch roms when i want?
Other devices support multirom but not this one. No one developed that yet and I doubt it would ever exist.

We still couldn't get a fully custom Rom till now and probably for months to come .

Mess a lot with that and you will get a nice bootloop. I´ve told you, not supported and even no 3rd party ROMs to justify it.
You might want to check Nexus or OnePlus devices.
until the honor 7 gets a custom ROM, you shouldn't mess with ROM Manager.
Honor 7 have custom ROMs, at least 4, but still multirom has to be specific to the device.

It's not pointless, it comes down to each one's preference. It's just not supported.
Even from a conceptual point of view could have interest to some.
