hELLO,
sorry if I post here I don't know if its the right section. I'm looking for a phone for a friend that can be use either with t-mobile and att in 3g or 4g.
I know that they use different frequencies but I was wondering if there is a phone that supports both frequencies for 3g and 4g speeds, or if there is a way to change the radio and make it work. Thank you so much..
To find a 4g phone is not that simple as I thought.

Well at&t nor Tmobile has a true 4g network at this time. They both use a 3.5g network that they advertise as 4g.

I believe the ATRIX is technically 4g but was wondering if anyone has seen 4g in the status bar ever? Im on AT&T and have seen 3g and h+ but no 4g. I know AT&T calls h+ 4g but it isn't really. I was also told that AT&T hasn't released 4g speeds yet but that was months ago. With the new ipad out that is 4g does that mean 4g speeds are available now and has anyone seen it on the ATRIX using AT&T ?

Atrix only supports HSPA+, no LTE
You won't see LTE on the Atrix as the radio isn't capable of LTE. You will only ever see 4G come up on your Atrix if you edit the appropriate system files to show this instead of H+ or 3G. As was said, Atrix is only capable of HSPA which is what AT&T called 4G before they rolled out LTE.
i am traveling through Europe right now with a roaming data plan, but i am only getting 2g edge or even worse GPRS whenever 4g is unavailable (which is most of the time). I never get 3g. If I put my SIM in my old AT&T Tilt 2 I get on 3g just fine. Does the Amaze support 3g and how do I enable that?
The 4g is technically just really fast 3g.

you have to see what kind of towers are where you are, the Amaze supports the 3G 850,1900,AWS and 2100 bands IIRC, could be missing the one band that your tilt has and that the nearest tower puts out
On the energy rom 3g is shown with a 4G symbol. I don't know if it's the same way with other roms. A good way to check this out is to head to the icon changer in rom toolbox and see what your 3g symbol is.

i am using the bulletproof ROM.. how do i change the band so i can get the proper 3g signals?
Hi everyone, just had a quick question about LTE and cm9. Currently my phone displays an H, but if I was in an LTE area, would it say LTE or something else? Also will the default apn settings for cm9 enable LTE when I am in that area? Thanks!

In my experience, it will display the 4G icon in LTE areas, and the H for HSPA+ area's.
Right, In aosp the signal indicates exactly what it should, not those bs lies the carriers spit out, confusing people...
They have been selling HSPA as 4g for years, when it's not a new technology, it's just 3g better implemented, so it's like 3.5g.
Lte is the true new tech, so it's actually 4g, which is what aosp says.
E= edge 2g
3g= self explanatory
H=HSPA (what has been sold as 4g)
4g=LTE (actual 4g)
Hi all. I recently updated to the September security patch. For some reason after the update my signal icon displays "4g" instead of "LTE." I do have LTE coverage (western US) and speeds, and it had always said LTE before. I have no idea why it now shows "4g" instead and can't figure out how to change it back. Anyone else run into this problem?
4g and lte are the exact same thing. It's just an icon. Why does it matter or is it that you just prefer to look at lte instead of 4g?
Just part of the update is all.
I think everywhere else in the world calls it 4g it's just America who has to be different and call it lte

Thanks for your response. With my particular carrier there are a few different 4G frequencies. I've been with them for years and have grown accustomed to what signals they designate as LTE, 4G, 3G, etc. So it's partly a convenience factor but also somewhat of a mystery as it was showing the LTE icon then post-update shows 4G.
