Google play music closing in background - Xperia Z5 Compact Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently upgraded from a z3c (with sony concept software) to a z5c. It's been pretty sweet but I'm getting really frustrated with Google play music being killed in the background whenever music is paused. This happens when I've moved from the play music app to another with the music paused (usually about a minute or so. after switching apps). It's extremely frustrating as I can't just carry on playing music once I'm done whatever I'm doing in the other app; I have to re-open google play music and click play again. This is particularly annoying when I'm in my car as I use a bluetooth head unit which I can pause/play music, which won't work if the app has been killed i.e. I'd have to open the app again on my phone which I obviously can't do when I'm driving.
Does anyone have any ideas? So far I've tried un-optimising the app in the battery settings, clearing the cache, stopping other processes (to make sure I'm not maxing out the RAM) but with no success. I'm not a power user and haven't got the phone rooted, and would like to avoid it if possible. Any help would be much appreciated!

Does anyone know of a Media streaming app that doesn't peg the processor?

I've been using the iHeartRadio app which lets me listen to the stations I really want to listen to, but the problem is that it keeps the processor at the top two steps speed wise.
Anyone know of one that will not keep the processor this high and therefore hopefully reduce my battery use while listening to streaming music?
If it is any consolation, my Iheartradio devours battery too. So much that I stopped using it completely. I've been using Tune-in for awhile but the most recent builds, seem to keep firing up in the background even after I FC them. I don't like that. I reverted to a previous build but mainly I listen to Mp3's or Jango (fka Radiotime). But I would be interested in know of another app too that works like Iheart.
Little tip: Any music app that has a cache system, i.e. Jango, Pandora, Stitcher will drastically conserve battery power b/c it isn't constantly pulling in data over the internet. It pulls it in and caches it so that you can pause and play at will or even come back later on to the same song. Apps like Iheartradio MLB At-Bat and the like that run a live stream, are power hungry, so beware. Muhahaha!!!
Yea, unfortunately I use it to listen to talk radio so there's not much that could be done in the form of caching. My only other option would be to find out if I could find another way of listening to my favorite hosts' shows via something that can be cached.
** EDIT ** Unfortunately I think all the shows I want to listen to require you to subscribe to the show's membership to be able to get the podcasts instead of listening to them live.

Google Play Music: Why does it cache extra music when I streaming just one song?

So when I want to stream one particular song I noticed that the Google Play Music app downloads and caches the previous/next few songs for quicker access. How can I prevent this? It uses a lot of data and I usually only want to listen to the one song I chose to stream.
For example if I play a 6 mb song i noticed it uses about 40 mb to stream just that one song. Then I selected a different song to stream and immediately went into settings > download queue and noticed it was loading more songs than the one I requested. I only want to listen to the 1 song I chose, so how can I prevent the other songs from loading? As far as I can see there is no way in the app's settings but there has to be another way to stop this inconvenience.
Thanks in advance!
P.S. I have a T999 galaxy s3 running on stock rooted ICS
Also, if this is in the wrong forum I apologize (feel free to move it if it is), but I felt like this is a problem with the app on android and that maybe others were suffering from this too!
Just bumping to see if anyone knows why this happens? And if there is a way to to stop it because it is really affecting the usefulness of streaming from google play!

Rydeen DV638A & Google Play Music

So I just bought and installed a Rydeen DV638A in my car. It's an in-dash receiver running pure Android, specifically Froyo.
Been using it for a few days and I absolutely love it. Would recommend it to anyone. It's got a Cortex A7 processor, is very quick and responsive, and it boots up in just a few seconds. It also comes pre-loaded with the Google Play store and has access to most Froyo compatible apps.
I've got virtually all my Google Apps installed. Drive, Movies & TV, Keep, etc. all of these work flawlessly. What is annoying me is this. I have Google Play Music installed, but when I click on it, it launches the stock music app. No matter what I try I can't get it to launch Google Play Music instead of the stock Froyo music player.
Since I have all my music on Google Play, I'd like to fix this, but I really don't want to attempt to root the unit... anyone know what I could do to solve it?
Okay, so I played with it more and here's what's happening now. I noticed that I had 10 authorized devices on my Google Play Music account, so I removed some, and that helped. Now, if I press Google Music, it actually opens Google Music - 50% of the time. The other 50% of the time it still opens the stock Froyo app, but if I exit that app and try again, it works. Weird.
Thinking about setting something up with Tasker. Maybe make it so that any time the stock music player launches, it auto launches Google Music. Any ideas?

Any way to stop stock music player from autostarting on BT connect?

I've searched and can't find anything, but I need to find a way to stop the stock music player from playing when my phone connects to my car's BT. I use Google play music and want that one to auto start, but every freaking time I start my car, the Samsung player starts that dumb preloaded song.
Honestly, I don't care if I can't get play music to autostart, I just want the Samsung one to stop. And yes, I've tried disabling the app, but it can't be, at least non-rooted. So, any help/advice would be great. Thanks.

Is Google Play Music set as the default music player? I haven't rooted my phone or anything, it's completely stock and just by setting Google Play Music to the default on Day 1 of getting this phone (April 8th) it always auto starts when I connect via Bluetooth.

I never got the option to set it as default and I didn't see anything about it in application manager. Any idea where to find it?
OK, figured it out in a round about way. I had to open a .mp3 in Samsung's file explorer and then it asked me for the default. So let's see if it works.
@Hendrycks
Thanks! It worked.
That didnt work for me. Upon linking to BT in my car, the stock Samsung player still auto starts. I have tried setting play music as default, I have set Player Pro as default. it still auto launches the stock crappy Samsung player app. Ideally I dont want it to auto launch any app. I use Pandora alot in my car and since it auto launches the samsung app, that means my car stereo does not display the track info for the playing song in Pandora on the screen.
Sooo annoyed
I have the same exact issue and it is driving me crazy. I have tried everything in the phone and settings and there is nothing. I have downloaded both Connect and Play, and Smart Connect as bluetooth connectors but the stupid factory music beats it to the punch every time. Nothing works! I am about to chuck my phone. Someone please help!
me too
Does anyone have another suggestion? This happens to me if I even "pause" my podcast player too long. Truely annoying.
I am going to try this:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cp2.start.and.play.music.player&hl=en
So far, with the UI, it does look like it has the right settings/options.
Sorry to bump this but came across this while trying to sort this very same issue. I'v found an app called Package Disabler Pro in the Play Store . The best thing is that it works without root.. It isn't free but I thinks if you been looking for something thats solves this issue its worth it. It worked for me so hope it works for you. And if you try it quick enough you can get a refund if it don't work
Download Trigger, I have mine set so when it connects to bluetooth it launches Google music but you can choose anything you want or nothing at all!
Sent from my SM-G925F using XDA Free mobile app

I have the same problem. I installed Trigger, but it didn't work. What task did you add?
The best I came up with was denying access to storage in the application's settings. Now it just prompts me to give it permission when I connect to bluetooth. At least that horrid song doesn't play anymore.
Have you tried Tasker ? Had same problem myself on S6 Edge, but after a little fiddling with Tasker. The default "music" closes, tunein radio is launched & my volume levels are adjusted. I can revert back to "music" by pressing play/pause on hands free.

Phone call kills stock music player

Have the new Stock MM V340 on the Honor 5x.
I'm streaming Music over bluetooth in my car. Now evrytime when i'm getting (or making) a phone call, the stock music player is completely killed. This is very inconvinient. I have podcasts of several hours, and even the position in the podcast is lost.
When going into settings, battery, I have the possibility to protect apps, except the system apps like the music player.
Has anybody a hint or a solution for this problem? Thank you in advance for any help.

My best guess is that ur device is very low on Free RAM. Try uninstall as many apps as you do not absolutely need/use frequently. Also, put only the apps you need to stay running after screen goes off as protected (i have only 6 protected apps). Hope this helps. Cheers.

I don't have this problem even when I'm using the phone the whole evening with several apps. The music player gets killed, but continues to play at the exact position that the player had stopped the day before.
So I don't think it's memory related. Must have something to do with the phone app, or with the "Bluetooth Connect" App that I'm using so that the Music player automatically starts to play music when connected to my car Bluetooth system.
Have the same problem when using Google Play Music instead of the music player. What I can't understand is why it's not possible to make the default music player as well as Google play music a "protected app". Both app are not listened.
