Hi everybody,
I did a FW update to the latest version V10e via ZIP and Flashfire. Just before that, I downloaded the same update via the built-in downloader/updater. I did just the download, no installation. Reason for flashing via Flashfire was my fear to loose root.
Because I did the update via Flashfire, it isn't necessary anymore for the built-in updater to install the update, but the updater is still asking to perform installation.
I tried to get rid of the downloaded OTA update by wiping the cache partition and deleting the big file in /data/fota. Nothing helped.
Any ideas how to get rid of the OTA update without completely deactivating the update-availability-check mechanism?
Thx and best wishes,
Alex
I've just wiped data for Software Update app. It then asks to agree to LG Terms and shows that my device is the latest software.
Ah gread, this helped. Wiped the data for the "Software Update" system-app with TitaniumBackup and the message is gone.
Thanks a lot! :good:
I have root and TWRP. I tried to install the update normally but when the phone reboots TWRP opens, and when I reboot from there the phone boots normally and doesn't install the update. is using flashfire the only way to install the update? will I lose TWRP?
Hi @DavidFlint how did you flashed using FF? Copied both zip on the phone and flashed it via FF? Did you flashed SuperSU too?

I have the t-mobile varient of the g5. I have looked in all the locations for the update file and cannot find it. I have the stupid update icon and can't get rid of it. I do not have a "system update" to wipe with titanium backup. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well you either wait for someone to load the update zip file and flash through TWRP or return to stock, I returned to stock and don't see no improvements with the update.

No because it's worked on past 3 devices. And for whatever reason always got app updates.

That's because app updates are not related to notifications but you'll lose notifications by Play Services completely that way
What notifications would I want that I would be missing? The playstore still tells me when I have app updates.

I selected Google Play services (v 10.2.98)
Under notifications I choose Block.
It doesn't go away. Upon reboot it disappears then comes back.
Suggestions?

I have a 769 on T-mobile, Jellybean 20d. I haven't been able to successfully update to 20f using the OTA (red icon). I realize there's an upgrade file to update manually with CWM, but after reading about the various issues, I'd really rather let the OTA take care of it. I've read through the forums and done the following things before trying the OTA...
1.) Remove all links and uninstall link2SD
2.) Uninstall busybox
3.) Unfreeze all bloatware
...but it still fails as soon as it starts a system check:
"file "/system/bin/debuggerd" doesn't have any of expected sha1 sums; checking cache"
Unless someone has more suggestions on how to "fix" my phone for the OTA, I'm thinking of trying either:
1.) Offline Lelus method, reflash 20d with root, OTA
2.) Offline Lelus method, downgrade to 10g with root, OTA
Anyone have recommendations on anything to try to get the OTA to work without flashing? If not, should I reflash to 20d or revert back to 10g?
Thanks in advance.

You shouldn't be uninstalling busy box... It'll mess everything up. And have you deleted any bloatware? That will interfere with the update... If you want to force the update the do the following trick.. Go to settings>apps then slide to the "All" tab and look for Google services framework and tap that. Then clear data>force stop>clear data. Do that for 3-4 times. After that reboot your phone and do the trick again once and check for update.

General consensus on the forums which I already searched through for hours state that link2sd and busybox need to be removed or else the OTA will fail due to changes in build.prop. I already stated I searched the forums and followed several posts. First of all, I attempted the update before uninstalling busybox, and yep, I got the red icon. I attempted the update each time after removing anything related to root. I also already stated I unfroze all the bloatware, meaning I didn't delete anything. Also I'm well aware of the trick to force OTA.
In any case, you made a lot of assumptions that were not correct, and you were rude to boot. That said, I still appreciate your reply. Guess I'm a sucker.

I unfroze everything. I assumed the OTA would want everything in default form, meaning no frozen applications.
Also, be sure to completely uninstall the locked bootloader cwm. (If that is you installed it)

No, I didn't install any cwm after installing jellybean; I did have a copy when I was on ICS, but I removed it before the upgrade (OTA). I'm guessing that while I was messing around with applications, I probably downloaded something that modified the build.prop.
I'll go ahead and flash the v20d kdz and try the OTA again, I don't see any posts that recommend going back to v10g.
Thanks for the replies, I'll post again if it works or not just to give this thread closure.

Still status 7, debuggered etc even without unfreezing those two apks.
I went ahead and flashed v20d with root / busybox, stupidly forgot to load up Voodoo before update, and ended up with 20f no root. Tried Jcase apk twice, but didn't work likely since I already had remnants of SuperSU. Can't remove, can only revert to a previous version. *facepalm*
Flashed v20d stock (no root) and completely uninstalled SuperSU.
Repeated v20d with root / busybox, root was not successful, although busybox installed, so the kdz procedure was correct. Tried Jcase apk twice again. Failed the first time, succeeded the second time. Didn't stupidly forget to load up Voodoo, updated to 20f, restored root, and done.
I certainly made that harder than it had to be, but nevertheless: :victory:
Thanks for the advice!
I'm having an issue with my OTA software update. I can download the update, but when it gets to the installation process, it just reboots into download mode. Currently running VRUAME7.
I had SafeStrap and root, but got rid of both of them, thinking that might be causing the problem. Still happening though. Any suggestions?
Did you reinstall any bloatware you and removed? Also when you removed SS did you remove it completely or just uninstall it? I had to remove it completely in order for update to take. Also if you want to keep root there is a thread that shows the way to do it. If not it should be as simple as plugging into PC running Kies and then doing a emergency recovery. Then the update will take without any issues. Hope this helps.

I never removed any bloatware. Only rooted so I could use Xposed Framework. I think I removed SS completely - the uninstall option in the app wouldn't work, so I removed it manually with terminal commands, and the SS splash screen no longer shows during boot. Also uninstalled the app for good measure. I'll try the Kies trick.

Here's something interesting: after a deeper look, it says the update failed and gave and Error Code of 410. Anybody know what that means?
From what I can tell error 410 and 404 both mean that a needed resource is gone or removed and cannot be found

You don't need to uninstall it. Just run the Xposed Installer, and click "Uninstall (restore app_process)".
That'll restore the altered file.
Hopefully you'll keep root through the update (I didn't) and can reinstall after the update completes.
I like many others was having an issue rooting my Note 3 so I figured I'd post a temporary fix until the official Method Comes along Freeza, Twrp Team, CF Root And Others.

Step 5. Install Engineering Bootloader (In the Bootloader Section)
Step 6. Reboot Phone & Put it back into download mode & Install Tar File that Came with Odin
Step 7. Reboot Phone and Put back into download mode and Install the TWRP Download file
Thats it Hope this helps

You need to follow the guidance in the stock tar NAB thread, and hit the OP of the NABD discussion thread in the general forum for the latest info on migrating from MJ4 to stock NAB...
You will need to simply throw that tar file from the dev forum onto PC Odin, no pit file needed, and just flash it. You'll be stock NAB.
You may want to backup all storage, and factory reset your phone whilst in MJ4, prior to flashing, for good measure, but probably unnecessary. That probably part is why I suggest it.

I'm getting a VERY persistent software upgrade on my phone now from Verizon apparently pushing Kit Kat.
I'm rooted, no other mods but debloating and G2 Xposed and other apps.
Can I take this update? Will it wipe my phone? Would I have to reroot? I tried a quick search but I'm pressed for time and didn't see anything jumping out at me that answers my questions.

I did the OTA kitkat today and bricked my phone and it was stock rooted. I am not sure if its just because it was rooted or because several things were disabled. My phone would only show LG logo and nothing else and turn off but still glow. I went to verizon and they troubleshooted it and could not get it to hard reset or anything. They are sending me a new phone under warranty. Sucks being without my G2 so unless you want to be like the rest of us dont do it.

Mine won't let me in. Every time I try to get into software update it brings up that damn Kit Kat push window.
I was rooted and turned off the software upgrade with TiBu. I decided to take the KK OTA, so I went back to stock with the LF flash tool, then took both OTAs. After the KK OTA finished, I rooted it with IOroot25 and loaded a recovery with Micromods "Freedom" mod.

I'm definitely gonna use Titanium Pro like you did if those updates start up again though

FIXING
It's been awhile since I got to play around with roms, and I have a couple questions. I'm rooted with 5.01.
1. Am I able to flash this from 5.01
2. Is this prerooted or do I have to go through the prices of changing to developer mode and re rooting?

Huzzah! I'll be giving this a go!
I couldn't get it running. It flashed and booted but kept giving me an error that my SIM was removed and it needed to reboot. I let it reboot several times with no change. I took the SIM out and it stopped the error but of course there was no way it was going to work for calls like that. I attempted to flash the beastmode kernel and it wouldn't even flash.
