Battery life twice as long on wifi vs 4G - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Well it sort of explains itself. Battery life on my Samsung S7 is about 2 days with my usage when connected to wifi. When I shut wifi off and only use data I get a max of 1 day .... the battery drain is significant.
I am pretty sure that this is a android bug, because this is the second mobile I am experiencing this battery drain with.
Use to have a Sony X3 Compact and bought the X5 Compact cause I loved the battery life so much. Much to my disappointment the battery life of the X5 was about half that of my X3. I even experienced it draining a full battery and switching off during one night. I of course was convinced that the X5 must have had a defect battery and got it changed. It didn't help and after getting the device changed for a brand new mobile with no better result I demanded my money back.
So know I bought the S7 and the only thing I can pin this problem on is the "phone radio bug" that exists on the newer versions of android. My HTC One Mini and Sony X3 Compact running KitKat have normal battery drain running 4G. My HTC X5 Compact and Samsung S7 handsets are just going through the battery like crazy on 4G even though they should have much superior battery life.
It amazing how many people have this battery drain problem and yet there is absolutely no sign of any official statement on this to be find on the internet.
Please ..... anybody have any experience like this.

I might add I live in Cambodia. I don't know if this would have any influence? Probably shouldn't cause my mobiles running on android version before Lollipop haven't had this problem.

[DISCUSSION] GSM Chip Is The Problem For Battery Drain?

Hi Brothers and Sisters,
I am opening this thread because i need some clarification on why we have so much battery drain on our x10 mini pros.
I have x10 mini pro, using nAa's kernel and rom (latest). I have seen lots of things in this phone and OS and they are working very good. but we all have battery issues and mine goes out soon as i start talking. it's like every 2 minutes or so the battery loses 1% of its juice. and using internet like edge network, or to make it even worse, hsdpa kills it instantly.
I ever thought that SE made the wrong choice of using its gsm communication chips for phones like these. because i see samsung and other rivals compete and they have good battery life even after a 1 or 2 hour talk.
And yes i know it all depends on the network coverage and how much signal strength is available, but the xperia series itself (old 2010 models) are much bad in this case. after i have a one hour of talking nearly 40-50% of charge is gone down. nothing like that happens if i listen to music loudly or play games or even read something. But using internet and calls make the big hit.
Resetting the battery stats doesnt make any sense. i have used at least all the roms here in the forum and i wonder, it ain't the rom's fault, it is the communication chip (i.e the gsm/radio chip) that is on board. That consumes the battery madly.
The matter continues on the newer series too. and they (even the mini and mini pro 2011 versions) have 4 hours talktime. what is going on?
Is SE using any flawed chips that are wasted somewhere?
Has anyone thought about this on what i am talking about? My phone is just one year old now. and everything is fine. except for this battery drain.
Has anyone have any thoughts about this matter? Please share it here if you like

Absolutely Awful Battery Life Wiko Rainbow

Hi everybody,
I just bought this smartphone some time ago. Ive been pretty satisfied with its overall perfomance, the screen quality, the stock android it runs. Coming from a 512mb RAM device i couldnt be more satisfied regarding this smartphone pros.
However, I simply cant stand this smartphones battery life. Its absolutely awful, dropping to 50% in 2 hours with moderate use(Chatting on FB messenger, browsing the internet, listening to music). Even if i use the smartphone lightly(only chatting), the battery still drops awfully fast. I dont consider it normal at all, because my other smartphone with 1400 mAh battey lasted MUCH better, dropping only to 70/75% battery if i used it the same way I use this phone.
Seems like no matter how lightly I use this smartphone, the battery keeps dropping like i never seen. Any help there? Ive bought this phone 5 days ago, could the battery still be "asleep"? Any suggestions?
Thank you in the advance.
What does battery manager say? In settings? It could be a wakelock or something.

under battery or power in settings then usage
and see what is using all your juice
So I have the Cell Standby eating 31%, the Wi-Fi eating another 31%, and finally the Phone Idle eating 26%. Screen comes far behind with a 7% usage. Is it normal ?
If I flash the stock ROM provided by Wiko, could the battery life increase ? I'm thinking on it , can it solve my problem ?

Potential fake battery, thoughts?

I have recently bought a new battery from amazon to replace my two year old battery which I was barely getting 2 hours of screen on time with, in general it was awful.
I would just like to gauge peoples opinions on whether they feel this battery is genuine or not or to see whether people have had any similar experiences with buying batteries on amazon. The amazon store seems to have a fairly good reputation. At first I thought it may have been an Akku Polarcell as it does say Akku on the battery packaging but I am skeptical.
I am currently testing it at the moment but it only seems to be slightly better than the original.
Further testing and research has bought me to install the following app. The app gives you the capacity of the battery on the main page - the battery appears to be 3000mah capacity which is the same as the oem battery.
Hi
As long as the battery is the original as the LG one. I had almost the same problem with my battery then bought the exact same battery and its been working fine so far.

Yes it appears that I am getting same battery life as the original battery, I can't seem to break 2.5 hours of screen on time and thats on a good day. Tried all sorts, think it might be time to jump ships and get a new phone.
Are you running on Android M or still on Lollipop and in that screen-on time what do you usually do, chats, videos, or games?
I bought a new battery too orginal. There is not different between thr ols battery. Why??

Latest Fulmics 5.2 with Xceed kenrel.
Literally limited to whatsapp and browsing internet, nothing to strenuous. Have a tasker profile running to turn off my phone cell when connecting to works wifi, as I get no signal. Have limited the worst of the wakelocks and alarms with Amplify and battery is a bit better but not in the realms of 3.5+ hours yet.

Maybe try to check under battery usage what's draining your battery. I got mine a week ago from one of these local shops, the exact same one as the original G3 and I get at least 8+ hours on a full charge for what you said you do. I suppose Amazone batteries aren't that reputable after all.

Kernel recommendations

Hey,
In common with other Snapdragon 801 devices I've owned (Nexus 5 & Z3 Compact - once latter has ambient standby modes active) and used (LG G3, HTC One), the OnePlus X has bad standby battery drain. The only one I've tried previously that I found *slightly* better was the SG S5 (which I assumed was due to the OLED).
I wasn't expecting any miracles, but I was hoping that the OP X would be better than devices with smaller batteries and perhaps equal to the SG S5, given both have an OLED. However both stock ROM and custom ROMS have epic standby drain on the OP X ... considerably worse than the Nexus 5 with a smaller battery & (old) IPS screen, and in the case of the device I have now a lot of use (friend gave it to me after mine got stepped on).
Is this something others have noticed, and is there any way to ameliorate it significantly?
Are there any kernels people have found particularly good?
I don't want to disable ambient and various standby / wakeup functions as it significantly limits the usefulness of the phone, and power saving modes seem to make the phone very slow - I already find it a lot more stuttery than the Nexus 5 (though it shouldn't be).
A friend who's had all the OP devices said the OP X's battery drain was particularly bad in his experience, so it seems I don't have a lemon so much as typical experience.
Might have to sell it and go back to the drawing board. Wait for custom ROMS on the ZUK Z2 (or Pro) or the S7 Active, if they come.
The best description I can give is that drain on my OP X with no radios active (mobile, bluetooth or wifi), and not touching it at all for 24H, it'll go from 100% -> 82-84%. The Nexus 5 with GSM & WiFi running, will typically go to 84-86%.
Anyway ...

Wow, you have serious drain...My OPX in those conditions will lose something like 7% (it loses 2% at night for about 9 hours on 4G). The OPX suffers a lot with low cell reception, so im guessing you have a weak signal right? If you are using 4g with a weak signal, my advice is to put the phone in 2g/3g mode (or just 3g)
Since I switched to aosp based Roms and poked around for some great kernel settings, I'm getting descent battery and low drain. Overnight maybe 2-4% tops with WiFi on.
Stock ROM: 4% but I'm not sure, maybe more or less
Custom ROM: 2% and for sure it doesn't have any battery drain

What ROMs / Kernels are you using? Do you have ambient display on or off? Also, do you have adaptive brightness set to on or off? It struck me that maybe if you have it disabled and ambient on, the OLED might remain in a powered up state but not displaying anything ...
The friend with one came back to me and said he got about 5 and a half days of standby on his (with no SIM card and WiFi switched off). I've left mine for about 65 hours now and it's down to 54% ... so seems that it will be similar.
My barely used (and therefore good battery) Nexus 5 used to last about 7-8 days iirc. Battery on the replacement that I got given is significantly degraded (though still last longer than the brand new OP X).
I had great experience with turbo and DU ROM. I just use the kernels provided with some audit settings I found in turbo thread. I've tried every cm based ROM and there great but had too many small issues. I must add that I only use 3g some people in almost every ROM report pour reception with mm. It's all trial and error everyone has a different experience.

I'm on DirtyUnicorns ROM with its own kernel, keep in mind I get 4.5h SOT when I use the device mostly of the time under Wi-Fi.
And yes ambient display on, for me it's a great (I came from a Nexus 4) and I've nothing to complain about the battery life.
Maybe I can get more changing some settings on my OPX? :good:

Note 20 Ultra (Exynos version) - Big battery draining issue

Dear XDA members;
So, I've bought note 20 ultra a few weeks ago (refurbished, great condition!)
I've switched from Galaxy Fold 1 and from what I'm seeing, the battery life is almost 2x more horrid!
I've been trying to use it in order for it to get adjusted to my patterns, still, nothing special happened after weeks of usage.
I've tried everything - naptime + turning off adaptive battery; turning it back on and deep sleeping the apps, changing the settings for maximum battery life etc. Wiped the cache and reset my phone, still nothing. NOTHING helps!
I've even decided to buy a new battery! My battery life is still horrible. Based on the reviews, I should be getting decent battery life, however, it is about 2.5-3h of SoT... Idle battery drain is also insane...
I'm using android 13 and I've noticed that a lot of people seem to write that it's the problem.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Should I install some custom rom? If so, which one would you suggest?
I REALLY love this phone and I REALLY want it's battery to last for at least 4-5h of SoT...
Thanks A LOT in advance!
Best regards!
I think sadly that's normal for the Exynos phone. It was always the thing fro me, I've had it since November 2020. My screen and battery were changed a month before the 2 year warranty ran out, and with a new battery I still get around 2-3 hours of SOT
3h sot is ok!I still have ny N20 but iḿ using a Google Pixel Pro,new!and 3 h ,perhabs a little bit more is what it gives!I will keep my N20 ;its a mess what Samsung is doing! And this for many years! For example;my Note 3 or my Note 4 were wonderful Phones, realy! With new Baterys they can do a good job ,eveb in 2023 with Androis 13,they give **** of this! And so i quitt Samsung, leider!
