Hey guys.
I have neither Windows RT device nor Chromebook but I know that both of them are based on ARM architecture. What is more, I read from news that certain developer of Google installed Ubuntu on Chromebook to enlarge the latter's offline features.
So my question is: is it possible to make a Windows 8 RT ROM for Chromebook?
It's a big challenge but will be very useful, especially for those geeks who have Chromebook and wanna try Windows.
Don't laugh if it sounds silly.
And thank your for your joining the talk.
right now, no. Later down the road?...maybe
Apparently the BIOS is a huge problem.
I heard Ubuntu runs great on it though.
Not legally... Windows RT is only being released as an OEM-install version, which means someone would have to mess around with the files that already exist on a pre-installed RT device, drivers at the present time are unable to be compiled nor installed on Windows RT due to Microsoft's adoption of the Apple ecosystem, and the bootloader would also be an issue. But, I have seen someone get the HD2 running it, it was news like a month ago http://blog.laptopmag.com/hacker-gets-windows-rt-running-on-old-school-htc-hd2-phone , but it's horribly laggy and slow.

Thanks for the reply. Yea I agree with your point. But developers are always making the impossible things possible, aren't they?
Actually HD2 isn't the only android device that can be installed Windows RT/Windows Phone 8. I saw in other forums that ZTE Blade CDMA2000 version+ (N880E) also has similar hardware environments that enables Windows Phone rom installation. So a Windows ROM for Chromebooks is worth expecting!
Yah thats right ubuntu runs good on it.Try out once!!!
Thanks for asking this question I always wondered myself too just never brave like enough like you to ask.
I don't think it's possible to install windows on Chromebooks at all. They're not very open-sourced, sort of like Apple products. You can install Linux on it though, since Chrome OS is Linux based.

Funny how Google makes an open source smartphone OS but their OS for laptops is closed source. [emoji17]

Why not install Linux and then switch from Linux to windows? Would it work?

that would be wonderful . but no
Dual boot
Dual boot?
is it possible to buy any chromebook and than convert to ubuntu?
i want to have a full system.
Hi,
I run a small preschool and we currently have 2 laptops (Thinkpad t43, Compaq nx6320) and 2 small desktops (Shuttle atom 1.6ghz 32bit can't find the model number. They have 2 com ports on the front)
They are acting as thin clients via LTSP from an Edubuntu server in the office.
I would really like to get Remix OS working on them so that the children can use the plethora of educational Android apps on the market as opposed to online flash games and Gcompris. I can then also use a different operating system in the office.
I tried making a bootable USB using the 32bit ISO but it just says "missing operating system" when I try to boot. I even tried using Unetbootin just for laughs but no joy.
Do you think it will be possible to install it? If so, how?
Do you think it would work better to remove all the hard drives and install the OS on them from my main PC?
Any help would be received gratefully.

I tried to install Remix OS 32 Bit to a Thinkpad T40, Thinkpad T42, Thinkpad T43, Thinkpad R51 and Thinkpad T400.
The only notebook where I was successful was the T400 - and the T400 works with the 64 Bit version, too.
I suspect that Remix OS 32 Bit has problems with graphic cards of computers which are more than 10 years old.

I've found that if I add NOMODESET at boot they pretty much all work but really choppy and slow. Is this a good sign? Does it mean that it just needs display driver tweaking or is it a huge job?
I'm tired of scouring the web regarding phoenix os. It's like the elephant-in-the-room.
Like king root almost.
But here's the thing. It plain outperforms remix without question, it boots much faster and is an absolute breeze to install . simply run the . Exe in Windows and it installs to C: drive or partition or USB! One simple click, and you have dual boot uefi/legacy in any Windows!
So why is there no forum or thread for this beautiful software?
Probably because I cannot find any evidence of audio successfully working for PHX Period....
As much as you want to point me to the x86 android forums, this still is its own entity, and I've already been there. This deserves a thread so here goes. Move or delete if you choose Mods
my amd r5 or h2000 aren't giving me audio with phoenix. Together or separate. I also can't get sound with Haswell.
I must know, has anyone acheived audio by any means with Phoenix OS?
Has anyone got anything to share on Phoenix os?
I like phoneix better as well.. I got everything but trackpad to work.... And uea its true its smoother. But i was unable to install google play services without giving me fc.. Theycare also extremely similar. Mowt of thigs that work on remix work on phoneix including root. Also what is broken on remix is highly possible to ve broken on phoneix when it comes to hardware incompatible

Yeah good idea. Well. I feel dumb. I was able to actually run audio out from 3.5mm jack to samsung 55" after all. My other cord was broken.
Now I've got kodi side by side next to shwbx and playboxhd. Simply amazing.
@egren58 doesn't remix have hdmi out? Is that not android x86 based?
I ran remix on a t420i w/displayport to hdmi and sound worked. A fluke?
Nope. No hdmi, remix us based on android x86 which currently does not support it.

On the same desktop, I installed both PhoenixOS Beta and Remix OS Alpha with 16GB data storage each.
Ran Antutu benchmark.
PhoenixOS scored 673526
RemixOS scored more than 7xxxxx
Additional notes:
PhoenixOS detected my other 3 hard drives and partitions with full read/write access.
Wifi and bluetooth not detected in both.
RemixOS freezes up after every 5~10 mins (but no freezing issues on my old laptop)
Audio works fine in both
CSR 2 (car racing game) runs fine in both
No hardware/hardware+ decoder for video in both according to MX Player(!)
PhoenixOS is in the beta now...whereas RemixOS is still alpha.

cool....do update us of any improvements/changes you notice.
Im running Phoenix on a Lenovo ThinkPad T450s and every single feature works beautifully! I spent hours trying to get Remix to boot on my machine by installing it on a new partition as opposed to using a USB drive and it was an absolute nightmare. I had to remove Windows in EFI mode and wipe my drive completely, convert it to MBR and boot in Legacy mode. That was the only way I could get it to work, but I lost a lot of speed in windows because of the conversion from EFI so I ended up restoring back to EFI and got rid of Remix. Then I came across Phoenix and it literally was 2 clicks and it installed everything beautifully in EFI mode! I can even have Rapid Start enabled in windows and it still works just fine. Rooting was insanely easy as well. Overall I think its an amazing piece of software and I don't know why it hasn't shown up here a lot more than what I've seen from Remix. The only issue I have is if I close the lid on may laptop while booted in to Phoenix and leave it shut for more than an hour, when I reopen it up the power light blinks and the computer won't respond to anything so I have to hold the power button and restart the computer. But it literally takes longer to hold the button and restart then it does to power back into Phoenix from being powered off. Overall Im very impressed and can't wait to see further development!
Can anyone tell me how to install Phoenix OS on a Ubuntu desktop? The thing comes in a Windows executable format. I have extracted it and placed the files on my HDD, but how to add a GRUB entry? There is no documentation on the boot parameters.

Install.img is actually install.cpio.gz so open it (twice) and you'll see the grub files there.
Phoenix Os is much better than Remix Os
Here is a link to where Phoenix OS does most of their english discussion. http://bbs.phoenixstudio.org/en/ and the Chinese forum which has the majority of the topics, http://bbs.phoenixstudio.org/cn/
enjoy!
I don't understand why Phoenix OS only provides a windows installer. I need an ISO for a virtual box install

I am one of the original members of that forum and on their tester program. Problem is that they don't keep up too well with us English users. Dante on their thread tries, but we haven't seen near as many betas and such as the cn thread. They play favorites
actually as of 2.0 remix os has hdmi support
I upgraded my PC to Asus i7-6700HQ Skylake laptop with 12 gb ram and nvidia 960m VGA. Ubuntu and most GNU linux OSs don't work easily and will usually fail due to the nvidia card not supported by nouveau. OSX has its own headache and never booted to installer. The only non windows OS that runs very good out of the box on my laptop is Remix OS By just adding EXTMOD=i915 it totally ignored the nvidia card and work pretty fast. I have a very powerful android box and it's good for studying, office work, youtubing and even GAMING
Remix OS is relatively new yet it did well to work on most of the new chips which didn't perform well on normal linux. What happened for now? Did the development really stop? Do they need donations (WE ARE HERE READY )? Did they give up on their port to normal PCs? They gave hope to many clinically dead old PCs and a better experience to new touch laptops like mine.
Phoenix OS is good but it has many Chinese stuff and their UI isn't as clean as that of Remix OS
What can we do to get Remix OS development back? The latest version 3.0.207 works pretty well on my PC but I'm still looking for more I want Nougat for example, I want better support for my fn keyboard shortcuts, I want support for keyboard backlight. I want better file explorer. Your latest version is awesome but we still expect more from you guys at Jide. Please don't give up!
Wait 'openthos' stable release
You have 3 options
1-) Phoenix OS
2-) Openthos
3-) Chromium os based build with arc++ (like flintos)

It would be great if anyone make chromium os with arc++
I had hope with Neverware cloudready. I don't know if Chromium OS is coming with Android apps support any soon. They can't distribute the android part easily as it's not open source. And they can't give us something like gapps to flash as there is no clear way to make such a big modification to the OS from the user's side. I have faith in Remix OS, they may be dead now but they are coming soon I hope.

I've spoken to Remix OS Project Manager and they still don't have plans for an update yet. No resources. Too many projects on their head
Ye, I also wanna try out Anbox. Seems very promising.
Worst news I could hear today :'(
This will give better chance for competitors to rise. They have diluted their effort into a larger work. They would have better focused on Remix OS and selling it in normal x86 convertibles.

Has anyone tried this yet?
I'd like to know if it has the same or better performance than Remix OS. Specially on streaming apps. I'd like a solution that can stream smooth like Shield Android TV does but using a computer or Laptop.
So far Remix OS has great performance on the laptop I'm trying it. I also did some build.prop tweaks and I'm using a TV launcher and it sure does compare to my Shield Android TV, however it still does not play some streaming videos as smooth as the Shield Android TV does, it can't handle some 1080P videos in YouTube for example, the SATV can handle 4K. Some streaming apps like DirecTV stutter on the video where the SATV plays them more smooth. Then again, I guess it could be the hardware I'm using. However compatibility using Remix OS is a lot better than using Android TV OS.
Okay, so before I start, I'm just going to say I know next to nothing about chromebooks or hacking them, aside from I just bought one
With that aside, I bought an Acer Chromebook R11, and I wanted to know if there was any way I could install Remix OS on it and run that instead of Chrome OS? I know Chrome OS can run Android apps now, but Remix OS is just so much smoother and seamless in how it does everything imo, and I like it a bit more
If anyone can help, I appreciate it a lot!

It not really a good idea cause remixos stopped his development and it should stay under marshmallow ...Another alternative is phoenix already exist and last build is nougat ...
Note that I tried both under another device but my Chromebook r11 with android apps is great for me ..
The other os are not much smoother as you said ...
