[Discussion] What happened to Remix OS? - Remix OS for PC

I upgraded my PC to Asus i7-6700HQ Skylake laptop with 12 gb ram and nvidia 960m VGA. Ubuntu and most GNU linux OSs don't work easily and will usually fail due to the nvidia card not supported by nouveau. OSX has its own headache and never booted to installer. The only non windows OS that runs very good out of the box on my laptop is Remix OS By just adding EXTMOD=i915 it totally ignored the nvidia card and work pretty fast. I have a very powerful android box and it's good for studying, office work, youtubing and even GAMING
Remix OS is relatively new yet it did well to work on most of the new chips which didn't perform well on normal linux. What happened for now? Did the development really stop? Do they need donations (WE ARE HERE READY )? Did they give up on their port to normal PCs? They gave hope to many clinically dead old PCs and a better experience to new touch laptops like mine.
Phoenix OS is good but it has many Chinese stuff and their UI isn't as clean as that of Remix OS
What can we do to get Remix OS development back? The latest version 3.0.207 works pretty well on my PC but I'm still looking for more I want Nougat for example, I want better support for my fn keyboard shortcuts, I want support for keyboard backlight. I want better file explorer. Your latest version is awesome but we still expect more from you guys at Jide. Please don't give up!

Wait 'openthos' stable release
You have 3 options
1-) Phoenix OS
2-) Openthos
3-) Chromium os based build with arc++ (like flintos)

I have flintos but couldn't install Android apps. It supports them? How?

LOL Not yet, but it is in their main goal so it will be added. I don't know when.
It would be great if anyone make chromium os with arc++

I had hope with Neverware cloudready. I don't know if Chromium OS is coming with Android apps support any soon. They can't distribute the android part easily as it's not open source. And they can't give us something like gapps to flash as there is no clear way to make such a big modification to the OS from the user's side. I have faith in Remix OS, they may be dead now but they are coming soon I hope.

Actually it doesn't have special multiwindow support, it uses *standart app on google play to use multiwindow so you can get on any android 7.x versions
I don't like it, if you try it you can understand what i mean, espacially try multi window, i don't want to tell bad thing about that...

I will try and give feesback. Wil also suggest any other alternatives I get to know. Thanks!

Trying now

I've spoken to Remix OS Project Manager and they still don't have plans for an update yet. No resources. Too many projects on their head
Ye, I also wanna try out Anbox. Seems very promising.

Worst news I could hear today :'(
This will give better chance for competitors to rise. They have diluted their effort into a larger work. They would have better focused on Remix OS and selling it in normal x86 convertibles.

*duplicate post*

Has anyone tried this yet?
I'd like to know if it has the same or better performance than Remix OS. Specially on streaming apps. I'd like a solution that can stream smooth like Shield Android TV does but using a computer or Laptop.
So far Remix OS has great performance on the laptop I'm trying it. I also did some build.prop tweaks and I'm using a TV launcher and it sure does compare to my Shield Android TV, however it still does not play some streaming videos as smooth as the Shield Android TV does, it can't handle some 1080P videos in YouTube for example, the SATV can handle 4K. Some streaming apps like DirecTV stutter on the video where the SATV plays them more smooth. Then again, I guess it could be the hardware I'm using. However compatibility using Remix OS is a lot better than using Android TV OS.

[Q] Is it possible to install Windows 8 RT on Chromebook?

Hey guys.
I have neither Windows RT device nor Chromebook but I know that both of them are based on ARM architecture. What is more, I read from news that certain developer of Google installed Ubuntu on Chromebook to enlarge the latter's offline features.
So my question is: is it possible to make a Windows 8 RT ROM for Chromebook?
It's a big challenge but will be very useful, especially for those geeks who have Chromebook and wanna try Windows.
Don't laugh if it sounds silly.
And thank your for your joining the talk.
right now, no. Later down the road?...maybe
Apparently the BIOS is a huge problem.
I heard Ubuntu runs great on it though.
Not legally... Windows RT is only being released as an OEM-install version, which means someone would have to mess around with the files that already exist on a pre-installed RT device, drivers at the present time are unable to be compiled nor installed on Windows RT due to Microsoft's adoption of the Apple ecosystem, and the bootloader would also be an issue. But, I have seen someone get the HD2 running it, it was news like a month ago http://blog.laptopmag.com/hacker-gets-windows-rt-running-on-old-school-htc-hd2-phone , but it's horribly laggy and slow.

Thanks for the reply. Yea I agree with your point. But developers are always making the impossible things possible, aren't they?
Actually HD2 isn't the only android device that can be installed Windows RT/Windows Phone 8. I saw in other forums that ZTE Blade CDMA2000 version+ (N880E) also has similar hardware environments that enables Windows Phone rom installation. So a Windows ROM for Chromebooks is worth expecting!
Yah thats right ubuntu runs good on it.Try out once!!!
Thanks for asking this question I always wondered myself too just never brave like enough like you to ask.
I don't think it's possible to install windows on Chromebooks at all. They're not very open-sourced, sort of like Apple products. You can install Linux on it though, since Chrome OS is Linux based.

[Q] Anybody building Ubuntu For Android?

Since early 2012 when Canonical announced Ubuntu for Android I've been drooling and waiting for the perfect tablet to install it on. Now I have Tablet Z, but find out there's very little written or said about Ubuntu for Android since last year.
Does anybody know if the source codes were released? Whether it's even possible to port it to Tablet Z? If something similar will be coming?
I don't really want to go with Ubuntu Touch (not that anyone is dev-ing for it on this device), I'd ideally want android base and proper Ubuntu desktop when docked to a monitor.
It's difficult to believe this dream combo of mobile device and computer being one was so close over a year ago, but is still so far.

I've tried to run this on my tablet and it didn't work, i believe that the problem was related to kernel not supporting loop devices (I was rooted) and there is only one custom kernel but is not for all the devices so it's harder to do this but of course easier than porting ubuntu touch lol.

This is what I've been using actually. I even donated so I can use the widgets.
The problem I have with it is that the GUI is laggy through the VNC, I was hoping for something as smooth looking as in the videos from last year. Perhaps you can make a recommendation on how to improve performance? A lighter package perhaps?
Also, I was hoping to install a local web server and IDE for working when travelling (I develop Ruby on Rails apps), not tried it yet, is it going to be waste of time trying or should i just suck it and see?

This does work on stock kernel. As I say above, I use it on a completely stock ROM/Kernel. I did experience what looked like loop incompatibility but it disappeared when I re-downloaded the img. Can't remember if I tried a different image but anyway, I got it to work on stock.

And yes, you should be able to run RoR on it, and get a working environment, it's good to have a backup work system lol.
Also it sucks that even using a local connection is giving you slow refresh rates.
Check this: Oracle Java for ARM i don't use java at all but some of my preferred IDEs are based on java, like PyCharm, WebStore, etc. it would be amazing if we can run those things on our mobile device.

Yes, something related to better hardware support (Cpu, gpu, sound, etc), speed optimization (maybe remix based on marshmallow), interface polishing, better mouse touch simulation, Ubuntu style installer support native Linux disk partitions and others, more languages (spanish!), etc.
Marshmallow.
However, we want Android N!
I had to say this, for the laughs, although it is true.

We'll have Android N - I am personally waiting for official Google support for desktops.
We will also have Android apps in Chrome OS - again, a great desktop operating system.
So at this point Remix OS is really heading towards redundancy but anyway - I would still like to switch my desktop to Android sooner
Definately legacy hardware support/compatability. While it's nice to see our newer machines fly, it would be nice to get some of our old working hardware running relatively well without the usual hour glass watching we get in standard desktop os's.

Remix os 3.0

Anyone with a leaked image to try ?
Awww, this thread subject was exciting then the actual body of the OP was a disappointment.
Afaik there is absolutely nothing to leak.
Remix OS 3.0 has just been shown running on an arm device; so even if there was a copy of that ROM somewhere, it would be useless unless you also have that device (Remix Pro).
lol
I hope that if it is release for pc they might have fix the touch input on the surface pro lineup.

This is for arm devices which is why the Android x86 port is not out yet.
I hope that 3.0 will be better then 2.0 in terms of bug fixes and comparability with more devices especially the surface pro 4 with the touch input. dual boot will be interesting on the SP4. AmiDuOS runs good but makes my pc SP4 run hot do to the CPU heavy usage. can't wait for the new release and news on it
while waiting for Remix 3.0 i went have a look at x86 6.0 rc1 witch i did install over an existing x86 4.4 (you're asked to upgrade or make a new install) it booted fine with all my settings, you do have multiwindow now except you can only have 2 or 4 windows at the same time not resizable and less compatible then remix, next i found my cpu and hd usage was too high, but the good is the settings panel is original to 6.0. Alltogether i'm back to remix on ext4 usb with swap part., it is running perfectly for me, no lags at all...

Remix OS?

Okay, so before I start, I'm just going to say I know next to nothing about chromebooks or hacking them, aside from I just bought one
With that aside, I bought an Acer Chromebook R11, and I wanted to know if there was any way I could install Remix OS on it and run that instead of Chrome OS? I know Chrome OS can run Android apps now, but Remix OS is just so much smoother and seamless in how it does everything imo, and I like it a bit more
If anyone can help, I appreciate it a lot!
