Hey guys,
I've had this phone for a while but i have been dealing with this increasingly annoying issue. I can't send or receive MMS messages for some reason. If i try to attach a picture, it does not send and when attempting to download a sent message, it fails and attempting to retry does not seem to even initiate another attempt.
Has anyone else faced this issue?
Super late to this thread but I am currently having the same issue, did you ever find a solution?
I think there is a problem with custom roms on using MMS /data. I use Straight Talk on At&T network and with right APN settings, I only get mms and no data for gapps like play store and maps. So if you want to keep using custom ROM switch to using 3G mode (it works for me, i get data +mms, everything works great except slower internet speeds). Or return to Stock ROM. I am using Stock ROM since last week (B331) and I am getting data+mms on 4G with the same straight talk apn settings.
IF not using custom ROM - then check your APN settings from network provider

I just made a post about how i fixed mine on the AT&T GoPhone plan.
Not sure what plan you are using but maybe this will help.

Hi all,
I want to preface this by saying I've searched the forums, and have not been able to find my specific circumstance addressed. I'm having a problem where I can receive MMS just fine, but I cannot send any MMS from my Galaxy S2 on KE7 with KE4 modem. I'm using AT&T in the USA, and came from an iPhone 3GS. I'm still on the iPhone unlimited data plan (haven't gotten around to switching to a 4G plan yet). MMS always worked just fine on my iPhone, both ways.
When I go to send an MMS, it just keeps trying to send the message forever. I initially see some data activity in the status bar, but it quits after about 5-6 seconds. The message just sits trying to send unless I delete it manually.
Anyone know why this would be occurring? Help is greatly appreciated!

I am having the exact same problem, but I can't even get receiving mms to work. The message comes through but fails to download. I have tried multiple apn settings but nothing works.
Just curious, but are you guys using wifi when trying to send or receive the mms? Data HAS to be on for mms to work, if I'm not mistaken..

Yes I have tried sending over both wifi and 3g with no luck.

I've tried using with WiFi and without...neither one works. Again, I can receive just fine, just not send.
Here I think is your answer.
If you say for example take a picture or video and then within the Camera app try and send either one as a Message, the MMS will fail IF you have the Camera app set to save to Memory Card.
If you change the Camera app to save to phone, then you can take a 8 MP picture and send it as a MMS from the camera app and it will resize and send.
I have mine set to save to memory card, so after you take a pic, you have to go into Gallery and find the picture, then send the exact same 8MP shot as a Message and this time the GS2 will correctly resize and send it.
I'd say its some bug having to do with saving pictures and video to the memory card, but the above way will get you a MMS to send.
Thanks for the info, but I'm pretty sure that's not my problem. I don't even have an external SD card on my phone, and when I go to the Camera options to change storage location, it's greyed out (can't change it), I assume because I have no other option since I don't have an external SD card installed.
Also, when I have tried sending pics via MMS, Handcent will resize the pic, but it still won't send it. BTW, I have tried sending MMS with the stock messaging app, and that doesn't work either...just in case anyone thought it might be Handcent with the problem.
Under Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Network Mode, do you have WCDMA Ony checked, or GSM/WCDMA (Auto Mode) checked?
I found that if I had WCDMA Only checked, I couldn't get MMS messages to work consistently at all.
I have Auto Mode checked.
bump....need MMS to work. help?
check your MMS message center settings. You can access it within the MMS app>menu>settings.
I had this exact same problem when I updated my modem and found out the reason I couldn't send messages because the Message Center phone number was removed.
The correct one for AT&T is +1312349810. Make sure to put the + there.
Edit: NM sounds like your prob is mms only. I have had this problem with my old vibrant galaxy S1 too. The problem was because of the way phone numbers were formatted. For what it's worth I fixed that problem by editing the contact so that their phone numbers are exactly 10 consecutive digits (3 digit area code + the number) without any hyphens or marks ie: 2382819391. No leading 1's, etc. Not sure why it happens but seems to fix it for me.
I haven't had this issue with my SGS2 though.
I am in the US and have a international galaxy s2 on AT&T...My phone is fully rooted, and I am currently running Batista70 FOXHOUD EDITION 2.1 but i cant seem to get my mms on a consistant basis....I have tried several roms so I am pretty sure it isnt that, I can send mms and have a great 3g signal but most of the time I cant recieve my mms...I can browse the internet and download from the market just fine but there again I cant seem to get the mms to recieve...It seems like on a fresh rom install i get the mms fine but then after a day or so I go back to not being able to recieve one at all...I have tried different apn settings and have made sure I am on the right AT&T data plan (HSDPPB) as mentioned in this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1109983) and I still cant get anything consistant on RECIEVING! It has really been agravating and I would love to figure out what I can do to get this working right, I dont know if it is the modem software??? Is it my apn settings??? I have tried different things and still nothing so any help would greatly be apprecitated and I have noticed alot of other people in threads seem to be having this problem so if we can figure it out I would love to make a thread to help out others...thanks in advance...
did you talk to your provider, they may have adjust or refresh your account settings from their end.
That's very weird actually, i used to have issues sending MMS but i never had any issues receiving them.

i have talked to at&t and finally got them to change my account and settings so I know for 100% that I am on the right rate plan and settings......
I to was having problems with MMS on ATT but my problem was sending them not receiving though. After I was sure I had the correct apn setting a customer services specialist had me do this. Try opening your phone dial pad and entering *5005*7672*+13123149810# then the green phone button. This is suppose to reset your sms/mms setting back with the network. Long and behold it fixed my problem of sending mms.
just to double check something - are you leaving your data (edge or 3g) enabled? disabling the phone's data connection will prevent mms from coming through.
Anyone else having this issue? I can send MMS just fine when i get a data signal. Also calls and SMS are working great over wifi calling....just cant seem to send a MMS.
I use Handcent and have no problem.
Have this issue too
I have this issue as well, when WiFi Calling is activated I cannot send or receive MMS messages.
I'm still completely stock.

I think is the way the tmobile sets it up to turn of the wireless radio but wifi, I seem that on my one s, but if you use another app im like Handcent it uses it wifi so you dont have the problems, again thats my experience on one s, Im waiting for my galaxy s 3 still

Tried handcent with no luck. Still can't send or receive MMS.
I have an s3 and also have this issue - anyone find a solution?
Google a little bit. Sounds like this is a known issue for T-Mobile on many different devices. :-(

Really? I never had the problem while texting

Unfortunately this is an issue, but I don't know if the blame can be placed on TMobile, as the stock messaging app will allow me to send an MMS over WIFI. The reason being is that MMS is sent using the carrier's data connection. With the stock app, while using wifi, it disconnects from the wifi connection just long enough to send the MMS. However, when using a third party, it does not register and therefor isn't sent until you disconnect from the wifi or resend through the stock app.
Works for me bro. But then again, my data is always on...

This is a pretty crap issue.
I have no damn signal in my house (even though I really should), so Wifi Calling is a godsend (even though it likes to randomly turn off).
But I've got five MMS pending download because of a group text, and I can't reply. I would have to go up the street to get them.
I'm on Verizon and have the same problem. Only solution to sending and receiving is to clear data, but have to do that every time i send or receive an MMS on stock. tried Go SMS and Handcent, and get the same issues.

This worked for me at work and at home. Just need to do this for every wifi access point you use. I found this on Rootzwiki.
Long press on your Wifi connection
Press "Modify Network"
Scroll down to IP Settings and change that from "DHCP" to "Static"
Scroll down to DNS and enter the following information:
DNS 1 - 8.8.4.4
DNS 2 - 8.8.8.8
Press Save
REBOOT YOUR PHONE! This is important.
I would love to be able to send SMS through my WiFi because I get crap signal in my room.... is there a WiFi calling app for att?

I'm running the .33 ICS leak, with Deutsch Telekom service. For some reason I am unable to receive any MMS. I get the notification with a box to download image. When I click to download the image nothing happens. This is the case with both the stock messenger and handcent.
- Has anyone else experienced this? If so, were you able to fix it and how?

still looking for some help...
This is slightly frustrating. This post has been up for over a day, buried to the second page, and not one person has anything to say.
I was under the impression this forum was designed by users, for users, in order for to offer and ask for help from one another. I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to fixing problems but I at least try to offer some insight.
Can anyone using the XT910 on Deutsch Telekom let me know what their experience has been sending and receiving MMS?

I'd bet that people aren't answering because they're not on the same carrier as you and they don't want to give you half-ass advice. The obvious thing is to make sure your data connection is on. Are you sure you're connected to your carrier's data 3g/4g network? Try disabling wifi and re-downloading the message. As I said I'm not on the same carrier nor the same country as you so it's rather difficult to troubleshoot. It could be a problem with the leak or your carrier

Thank you for your reply, I will gladly take half ass advice, simply because it is better than none. If ten people suggest something I may not have tried, I could at least narrow the issue down.
Although people may not be on the same carrier as me, there are many using the same ICS release.
Are you using the XT910? I'm assuming you are not having any MMS issues. What data settings are you using? What messenger do you use?
I have done all the things you suggested before I posted my question. I have gone in to my APN setting and ensured that Telekom is selected. I have noticed ICS doesn't seem to have as many options for network settings that the past versions had.
All in all I'm looking for any kind of response from anyone using the .33 ICS leak in regards to receiving MMS. Are they able to get the image sent to them or not?

I'm using the XT910 GSM for Rogers (Canadian Carrier). My data is either off or on, got no real settings beyond that. I do know that if I try and retrieve a MMS while on wifi with the data connection off, it won't download the message. I use the stock messenger too (something you may want to try if you're using a 3rd party messaging app). I've never messed around with any of the APN settings/other network settings.
Sent a MMS this morning no problem this morning and received one this afternoon no problem. Honestly, not sure what the problem could be

I'm also using the. 33 leak.
Have you checked the individual options in the apn to make sure they are correct?
In a previous leak it said i was on T-Mobile but i use simple mobile, so maybe it has something wrong in the mms port or proxy? (The long one)
Have you tried sending an mms to see if it actually gets sent?
I set up the mms port/proxy wrong i had mms problems

So, I started messing around with the Tmobile APN settings and messed up my data. Then I reset APN to default and noticed the settings were different than before I started messing. Now it seems to be working!
So I updated to Avatar Rom, and then over to SuperNexus. Any issues I've had on either has been resolved except this. Haven't been able to find anyone else mentioning it, so it could just be me.
Anyway, I can't send or receive MMS messages. If I try to send one, it remains sending and never reaches its destination. If I receive one, I get a notification but no actual message or picture. Anyone what experienced similar?
Sent from my SCH-I500 using xda app-developers app
What service provider are you on? Might need custom apn setting
And make sure you have 3g turned on
Check in text setting make sure auto retrieve is on,,,
If all else fails just backup your stuff and Odin back to stock and see if it works.
