Hi,
I've recently been playing around with various cameras under LOS on the Axon 7.
I've been experimenting with Snap (built in LOS camera), Open Camera, A Better Camera and Footej Camera.
Simply installing the apps and using the default options yields the following order (best to worst):
A Better Camera
Open Camera & Footej Camera (tied 2nd place)
Snap camera
However, by tweaking some of the options in Snap camera, I've been able to get consistently better images than any of the other apps using their defaults.
To improve the quality of Snap make the following tweaks:
- Set Picture Quality to High
- Set ISO to Auto HJR
- Set Contrast to Level 6
- Set Sharpness to Level 3
- Set Auto Exposure to Centre Weighted
I've done side by side comparisons of the four apps and I've found that Snap leads the pack with the tweaked settings. As an aside, I used the app PhotoGrid to create the zoomed side by side images.
I'd be interested to hear back from others re: their experiences using the tweaks to improve image quality.
One final note, I also tried using the Axon 7 stock B04 camera on LOS, but it was consistently worse than any of he other four options so I removed it. There is a magisk module for B04 if you want to try this for yourself.
Regards,
jamesK
Here are some comparison images. For each image the apps are represented in the following order:
Footej Camera - A Better Camera
Open Camera - Snap Camera (with tweaks)
I have tried your settings and the results with snap camera were a bit better.
Because I ve used high resolution mode the differences where less significant.
I tried a comparison with axon 7 camera mod for LOS and it's quality is still the best in my opinion.
1. Snap @ high res settings
2. Snap @ your settings
3. Axon 7 camera mod (Tapatalk app bug uploads media to his own server.)

Hi,
Thank you for taking the time to test.
Your first image was noticeably better than the other two (you could see the marks on the thermometer).
Are you using B05, B04 or some other version of the LOS camera mod?
I tried the B04 magisk version of the mod but didn't find that it produced good results. Perhaps I should try B05.
Regards,
JamesK
I am using b04 Magisk by kingo.
Ive used the screenshot function on my device. Cropping images resulted in lower image quality.
I took a look on the numbers of the thermometer and on my devices screen I had the best images with zte cam.
One small note. The object is appx 3 meters away from me and the pictures were taken after tap focusing the object.

Thank you for the details. The only difference with the images I attached is that I zoomed to 100‰ on the original images.
As mentioned, when I tried this with B04, the image quality was not as good as the other camera apps.
I'll reinstall it and try again. Perhaps. I overlooked something.
Thanks again for your feedback
TIP OF THE DAY
INTRO
If you don't like the camera's quality it is because the google camera app is not the best for the grand prime, actually this is the problem of all ROMs based on the pure android, isn't the image clear enough? does the image looks blurred?
I've been comparing my camera on android oreo with my another phone (both are the same model), one has the stock Android and the other one has the pure Android 8 and the differences are huge, how to work around this problem?
Well... I have researched and talked to devs about this and it turns out that the drivers of the camera are the same as the stock firmware, but the only thing what changes the quality is how the image is processed by the camera application.
So who's the one to blame? The camera app.
What is the solution?
The real solution is to use ROMs based on the stock ROM, i.e. touchwiz, but I have noticed that many people still prefer using the pure Android so this solution is not possible. There is still another way.
CyanogenMod camera and fine adjustments
That's what you read, with the 'old' Cyanogen camera app you can have better pictures.
First, install this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.maartendekkers.cyanapps
It's called Cyan Apps if the link isn't working.
and then...
Choose 'camera' on CM's 13 sectionNote: Don't choose the CM 14.1 version because it crashes when you start recording a video or change to frontal camera.
Download and install it.
Adjustments
Open the camera and go to settings, drag down until the last options and turn off the Denoise option, then go to the sharpness and set to the level 0 (or do whatever you think is better) and go to the picture quality and set to it 100%. The rest of the options you can leave in the default level.
Optional
You can, alternatively, with root access make this a system application and delete the other one just to have only one default camera for your ROM.
In the images attached below I want you to pay attention in the sharpness of the image and the quality, I hope you don't mind if I'm a bad photographer.
UPDATE: I know the link is broken and the reason is because the Cyan Apps has been removed from playstore, I don't know why, but you know now the secret to make the image good-looking, you have to turn off denoise option which comes by default turned on in all Samsung cameras. Find an APP that can make this for you. Best Regards
Holt sh*t dude.. it fixed my camera quality. Now the photo quality can be compared to stock cam.
Although now the photos are a little noisy and kinda looks little bad on low light..but it's really good on places with light.

Low light is always an enemy for the camera
This WILL also work on Snap-based (that's the camera included on most AOSP ROMs) cameras.
When you hand your phone to granny to take a photo of you, can she get the job done? Rate this thread to express how you deem the Xiaomi Mi A2's camera software. A higher rating indicates that the software is easy to use, fast, uncluttered, and inclusive of advanced features for when you need them.

Love the software. It's very well optimized on this phone, running Android One 8.1 out of the box. It's promised to receive Android Pie soon. My only complaint is that you can't move the Google search bar (at least I haven't figured it out yet).

I have the Mi A1 and removed the Google search bar with Microsoft launcher.
There are photo, video, portrait mode, panorama and also manual.
Manual have the options for you to change white balance, aperture, shutter speed, ISO and also two of the lenses (regular and low light).
Interestingly, in aperture mode there is a "PEAK" options which show you the peak point in picture. (I don't know how to explain it but try it for yourself!)
There are timer (3s and 5s only), tilt-shift (circle and parallel), straighten (which help straighten the image), group selfie (take multiple photos and create a shoot where everyone looks best, it claims), HHT and beautify (which have 1-5 and advanced options that can make you slender, have big eyes, tone and smooth your skin).
In settings, you can save your location, enable pocket mode, adjust anti banding, auto exposure, contrast, saturation and sharpness.
So it's quite cool in all.
Since i have installed the September update i have got a Software Bug. Everytime I am using by default the HDR mode of the stock camera, my foto is just a green square! But onyl in dark conditions - maybe the app wants since the september update to change the camera lense... and it does not work probably.
does anybody else has the same problem?

yup! i experienced this twice in a row when i was taking a picture. not sure what the issue is.
I have found the software to be very smooth and fluid; the September update on a fresh reset seemed to have also removed some of the bundled MI apps but then actually allows you to pick and choose which ones to install (such as the MI remote for IR blasting). An awesome feature to have this come from xiaomi instead of the xda community via rooting and other uninstallers etc. Camera and google maps also load very fast, which helps a lot.

So it has been awhile since I tinker with Gcam, and now that I have finished the modding of it and no longer have my Mix 3, I will upload the final copy of Gcam. As usual thanks to everyone from defcomg, cstark27, san1tyy, xtreme, bsg, zoran.
https://drive.google.com/open?id=1rBUkxfz2IlG_0SGaTlJ2G6mL-16Bx8LY
Changelog:
-added corrected black level for most shots. Bl corrected for 1/30 shutter so you will have slight tint on slow shutter at extreme low light conditions.
-modified xlib2 to remove tint, and noise
-new menu and icons
Bugs:
-sometimes hdr+ enhanced at 40 frames or 36 frames will not save the first shot, but shot afterwards will save. Tried to find a fix but cannot so use lower frames for most stability, ie.. 25 or so.
Feb 7th, 2019
Update: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1IKGyubiBrdqWVp_gQfmTLaA8HErtoyk7
-added lens blur mode courtesy of san1tyy to take picture of objects and animals
Recommended settings:
-Rear camera set to Pixel 3 XL
-Processing set to 2018 zslr hdr+
-set frames to 40 for min and max for best low light shot (will take some time to process), or set to 20 for both for quick shots
-hdr+ enhance and night sight set min iso compensation to 1/3 or 1/4 s for best shot, but hands have to be still as possible
-exposure compensation to +0.6
-chose Xlib for lib choice
So several have stated that shutter isn't working on global rom, and some other Mix flagship such as Mix 2/2S doesn't work so with help from san1tyy, metadata was cleaned up and should be working now

After bunch of trials and error, lib modding here and there, finally got a working stable version with some new changes with help from Zoran, Savitar, Xtreme, and San1tyy . Lib modding for awb using different calibrations from various devices would not play nice due to either unsaturated or nuclear saturation, especially from S9 series, so I just left it stock for now. Here's the new apk: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1scOaLD8_eeZEdlaR6q1lCXzUSLtb6miB
Changes:
-added compensation exposure
-new lib (Xlib) with sharpened decreased
-frames changed to 40 instead of 45 due to exif cache size error and won't save image
-qc color awb works finally without the yellow tint, thanks big time to Savitar
-UI changes
enjoy guys and donation are welcome so I can get more devices to work on. Paypal: [email protected]
The iso slider had an issue, and wouldn't capture. Also sabre and pixel 3 awb was not included so this version is updated to include it
https://drive.google.com/open?id=11ORyhdqIjFXNlZFsdfA0NDEW8auU3aNr
So sliders had some issue of not triggering for both iso and focus. After multiple test trials, san1tyy and defcomg pulled through again and got it working! APK is also cleaned up to only include Edzman v3, savitar v2, and stock google libs. Enjoy guys.

Make sure you are on the latest global beta from Xiaomi, or the latest beta from xiaomi.eu for camera not to lag in viewfinder and processing HDR+. This mod is based on BSG's latest version with working telephoto lens. Thanks to the great defcomg, xtreme and san1tyy over at telegram, here are the changes:
-added 45 frames, and 50 frames. The 50 frames will cause viewfinder to flicker like crazy but it does works.
-removed ISO limit of 9600 because stock camera can go up to 19000+ iso
-long exposure added for up to 32 seconds in hdr+ enhanced and night sight
-manual focus sliders and exposure sliders
Slo motion should work, motion photo do not work because of lib issue from xiaomi. For configs, use Pixel XL for rear camera, processing use 2018 zlsr+, front camera can use Pixel 3 XL. Using Pixel XL gives correct awb vs Pixel 3 XL which gives a true to life color at night time with low lighting (ie.. 5 to 10 lux).

I am on the official global rom 10.0.11.0
I'm on official global ROM as well and the view finder is incredibly laggy
global rom will do this, you need to be on global beta or xiaomi.eu rom or chinese beta rom
Any news on the global stable update?
I find the Xiaomi forums a pain to navigate otherwise would check myself heh.
Hi xterminater07, Thanks for your work! Its impressive! I use this version of gcam for my LG G6 and works great but I have some doubts about the 32s long exposure. Could you tell me what file inside the gcam package can I modify to try other configurations? I decompile the apk but I cant find where the parameters are for the amount of seconds depending on the lux. Thanks!!!
PD: Sorry for my bad english
All the lags and slowness disappeared after the latest global update (received the ota and updated an hour ago), now when I tried night Sight, taking multiple shots in a row etc etc there are no lags whatsoever anymore for me!
I was just about to flash the EU rom to fix the lags but no need anymore!

How do I enable the telephoto lens?
Sorry, just figured it out. Enable Aux camera in BSG settings, then double tap change camera icon (the one to change to front camera). It changes from back normal > front > back telephoto.

Does portrait mode work on your Mix 3? When i select portrait it zooms-in and only makes one photo while it says 'burst images'. When i disable zoom on portrait the only thing that seems to change is the zoom, but no acutal portrait shot. Well.. it seems the same as a normal photo

I noticed that it does not work for small objects, but works well with people. I guess the subject has to be far enough for portrait mode to actually work.
Regarding the telephoto lens, there seems to be no noise reduction applied to it, unlike the main lens. This results in very grainy photos especially during the night. Can you add noise reduction, or an option for it for both lenses in the settings? Thanks

have you tried clicking on the resulting image, if you open it, you will see a blurred one and the non-blurred editions.
so the resulting image is like a folder that when you open, it will have the blurred edition inside it.
Ive discovered that the newest Gcam port from the Pocophone thread also works on our Mix 3! It has more options like save in camera folder when taking portrait shots and so on... Everything works, is there any downside using it?
Hopefully.
Tested on: RR ROM (not GSI) from https://build.lolios.ml/sirius/
GCam version: Arnova's Advanced 1.5 Download
Config xml file: see attachments Alternative Download
Disclaimer
If you're not using my same setup I can't guarantee the same results, though I think this should apply, for the most part, no matter the ROM you're using. If you're using a GSI I think it should work the same as long as you have flashed the gcam fix zip (or Magisk module).
Introduction
I chose Arnova's mod because it's the most customizable out there. To get it working straight out of the box:
Install GCam
Create directory /sdcard/GCam/Configs if it doesn't exist
Move xml config file to the directory
Long press on the GCam icon and select "Take a video"
Double-tap on empty space below shutter
Choose the xml file from the menu and click restore
Step 4 is necessary because trying to lauch with the defaults options results in a crash, but not in video mode. We're using this as workaround to import the settings in order to fix the crash and configure the camera.
I'll now describe every setting that I chose to edit so that you can understand why I set it up the way it is. Most of these settings are based on personal preference so feel free to experiment for yourself.
Settings
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - RAW10 in front
Enabled.
Fixes the camera crash on app launch.
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - Buffer Fix
Enabled.
Fixes viewfinder lag. Doesn't fix it for Night Sight. Also, I remember this wasn't needed when using GSI + gcam fix zip so if you're using a GSI maybe try disabling this and see how it goes.
Autoexposure correction
1/10 sec.
This setting is very important. It controls the balance between noise and blurriness / time it takes to shoot a frame.
Basically, here's what this does. When you take a picture there are a few factors that influence how bright the picture will be. These factors are width of the objective, time the camera spends taking the picture (also known as shutter speed) and the sensor sensitivity (also known as ISO). Unlike regular cameras, the width of the objective is fixed (I believe) so on our phone we're limited to ISO and shutter speed. The longer the shutter speed, the more time the sensor is exposed to light, the brighter the picture. If you're not steady though, longer shutter speeds will result in blurry photos. Increasing ISO, on the other hand, will allow you to keep shutter speed low and have sharp images, but will significantly increase the amount of noise in the picture.
What this setting does is set a limit to how high the shutter speed can get before it will resort to increasing ISO if it needs to. The default settings of Off gave pretty bad results for me - picking 1/50 and 2000+ ISO where 1/10 and 300 ISO did perfectly fine - though feel free to experiment for yourself. Keep in mind the actual time to take the pic will be at most this setting times the HDR+ parameters setting. So if you have the default setting of 9 for HDR+ and 1/10 like I do it will take at most 0.9s to take a picture.
Correction NightSight
1 sec.
Same as Autoexposure Correction but for Night Sight mode. I set this to a very long time but it's totally personal preference so feel free to tweak this. As you may have guessed, I really dislike noisy pictures...
Pixel 3 AWB
Enabled.
See the GCam ports site relative FAQ.
I found it produces warmer colors. It also seems to only work if you use Pixel 3 or Pixel 3XL as models. Feel free to change.
Mod settings - Advanced - Base - Model
Pixel 3 for both cameras.
Tested other models and didn't find any difference except Pixel 3 AWB stopped working except for Pixel 3XL.
Mod settings - Advanced - Noise reduction
Everything disabled.
Trying enabling them but they didn't really seem to work so I left them off.
Mod settings - Advanced - FIX - Using Sabre
Auto.
Sabre FAQ. I left Auto because I have no clue what that's supposed to mean. Tried both On and Off and they worked but I couldn't spot a difference. It supposedly makes pictures better though, so set to On if you'd like.
Mod settings - Advanced - Libs
Stock by Google.
I just left the default because I tried the other ones and found no difference. Try them for yourself if you feel like it.
Mod settings - Advanced - Enable Auto exposure
Disabled.
This is weird one, most of the times it crashed the app right after shooting (didn't store the pics), other times it worked but I saw no difference. Don't think we're missing out on anything.
Photo - Advanced - "Motion" function
Disabled.
Enabling crashes the app, it might work with different models settings / configs (in Mod settings - Advanced - Base) but I didn't bother because I don't really care for it. If you somehow get it to work, please report back. Thanks!
Photo - Advanced - Optical Stabilization (OIS)
Disabled.
MI 8 SE doesn't have OIS. Not much to say.
Video - Advanced - Init SlowMo with
120 FPS.
Setting this to 120 FPS instead of the default 240 FPS allows to use both 1/4 and 1/8 speed for slow motion.
By the way, I believe that while most of this guide should also apply to GSIs, iirc slow-mo is broken on GSI and there's not much you can do about it. Sorry.
I hope to have cleared up the confusion about GCam, I surely was very confused when I first started looking into it and was quite overblown with all the settings.
Let me know if you know about anything that could be added to the guide.
Thank you!

True, it's a limitation of the default MIUI launcher. You can install a third party launcher temporarily and use that. To my knowledge there's no other way around it, unfortunately.

Glad to hear that! The reduced noise is just the result of the shutter speed setting, I'm still very doubtful about setting 1/10 as limit, sometimes I feel like it's way too long... Especially because it seems like once you've set it it becomes super aggressive in picking it instead of a more sensible combination like 300 ISO - 1/50 shutter speed.

Better quality photos are more important than waiting(shutter speed) in my opinion. Colors are sharp and contrast is higher than standart gcam. These settings give really good results. Sharp and clean photos :good:
The app crashes every time I take photos with hdr+ off. And in BSG v2e the shutter speed of hdr+ is so much faster than hdr+ enhanced which is useful if I want to take photos in crowded places

True, thanks for the report. I'll try and see if I can find a workaround. Shutter speed gets faster if you set Autoexposure correction to off, but ISO gets a lot higher as a result and produces very noisy pics.
