This morning I realized that my phone had not received any OTAs yet, so I sideloaded the MDA89D to MDB08K zip (find it here) and then got the MDB08L OTA notification as soon as the phone booted up.
In talking with friends with a 6P and looking at other threads, there seem to be a lot of users that are still on the factory MDA89D build, so I'm wondering if the delay is carrier specific.
FWIW, I activated my 6P without a SIM card and then have been using it with T-Mobile. Checking available updates always showed nothing was available.
It seems like Verizon users are not getting OTAs yet, as expected from an existing thread. T-Mobile users *should* be getting one since they are turning Band 12 off with it.

OTA got nothing to do with carrier you are on.
Sent from my Nexus 6P
I did not receive the OTA, but I did flash the new factory image as soon as I unlocked the bootloader.
yes just received phone in the mail today after setting everything up I got the OTA update installed with no problem
I simply just change the date few weeks forward. I didn't receive both updates soon so I just fast forwarded date a little. Then updates pop up on both times. Should give it a try before going on a manual flash route.
Didn't have to do anything, it just arrived while I was updating my S5 to 5.1.1.
Was reading an article recently where a Google engineer explained how updates go.
1% get the update first, if no problems
25% get the update, if no problems
50% get the update, if no problems
Etc etc
No mention of a time frame between percentages though.
I got the device Friday, on k version, got the l update earlier today.
Expect to see them monthly as Google is releasing security updates on a monthly basis now.
Need one for carrier less. Updated before putting sim in.
Got an OTA this AM on Fi Sittin on MDB08L. I have an unlocked bootloader as well.
I got my 6P today and turned it on. As soon as I signed into my Google account it told me that I required a software update. Didn't even finish the setup wizard before it downloaded and installed.
I ordered through Project Fi as soon as I got my invite. They sent the sim with it and I put it in and turned it on. Boom, update.
Yep got one today.

Interesting method, if the updates are IMEI based as it is believed, this shouldn't work.

It's interesting to see that, so far, most voters who have not received an update are on another carrier (or carrier-less), or Verizon. I was interested in seeing what Sprint users are experiencing, but there has only been one Sprint user voting so far (a friend on Sprint has not received any).

Unfortunately, I can't edit it, but, no carrier would fall under "Other Carrier"

Already flashed the update through mskip's toolkit. No wiping of data required though it flashes the whole ROM, not just the update (900mb).
I'm on AT&T. I got the first OTA when I turned the phone on for the first time, but where the hell is the November security patch? I thought it was supposed to start rolling out on November 1, yet it is November 10 and I still don't have it? What the hell Google? I understand a slow rollout of a major update, but security patches should be available to everyone on day 1, if not automatically, then sure as hell if they press the damn update button in settings. This is why companies don't take Google seriously when they talk about security.
I click "Check for Update" and nothing happens, says last time it was checked was November 30th. Tried rebooting, rebooting with no sim card . . . any ideas??
Just got one. Taking FOREVER to optimize apps. Painfully slow.
Just got my update through Telus in Canada. Installing right now.
just got 128gb 6P and got it activated on Sprint .. OTA about 15-20min after
I'm still holding out for the factory unlocked version. Will I get faster updates with the unlocked version as opposed to buying the Verizon G6? Also, any insight as to when the unlocked versions village be available?

If you're referring to the US unlocked version here:
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1322814-REG/lg_g6_us997_32gb_smartphone.html
Then it will probably follow the RS988 version of the G5 (which was the unlocked version for the US G5) which got slow updates. On the flip side, it was allowed to be bootloader unlocked officially through LGs website, although it took about a year for them to allow. As far as when it will be available, the G5 unlocked version released start of May, so pretty sure it will be around the same time.
Sorry, reply below

Thanks for the information. I'm on the B&H wait list but maybe I just get one through Verizon. Any upside to paying in full up front and getting an unlock code if I'm planning on staying on Verizon. I also have a Pixel XL through Verizon (work phone) that gets quick updates. I'm trying to get Pixel like updates without the Pixel phone if that makes sense.

Guess it really depends on if you want to ensure you get bootloader unlock and be able to do custom ROMs. Personally, I hate waiting on OEMs to push updates (plus I hate stock ROMs), so bootloader unlock and ROM development is important to me. If that's not important to you, probably okay to go with Verizon instead. My guess is you'll get quicker updates than the unlocked version (based on what happened with the G5), yet slower updates than if you're using custom ROMs. Verizon version most likely won't get unlocked and even the US unlocked may or may not (won't know until they release it and all).

Custom ROMs aren't yet my thing, this phone needs to work without fail (fingers crossed there won't be that bootloop issue). Besides, I'd probably brick the damn thing. I usually go only as far as a new launcher. I was hoping to avoid the carrier bloatware but it's probably better to play it safe. I'll be replacing my aging HTC One M8 which is still in like new condition, but it's time to move on. Maybe I practice screwing with that one before my new daily driver.
Great advice, thank you again.
So I just got the first software update on the phone. I have the S10+ from T-Mobile. It included the March Security update from Google. It did not list any other specific change in the details.
Does anyone know what this update includes besides the security update or is that all? Like does it fix the known issue of waking the display in your pocket?
Also has anyone else gotten this update on other carriers or other variants of the S10?
Also let this be documented that Samsung is very fast with updates now for this new S10. Releasing the security path only about 4 weeks after Google released it for its Pixel phones is very impressive.
Also let this be documented that T-Mobile is the best carrier for fast updates from my experience. They always pass out an update for their variant of a phone as soon as the manufacturer releases it.
Got the same update on AT&T phone today. 500mb size. Let see if they fixed any problems with it.
I recently bought a US998 off eBay only to learn that it was a Frankenstein'd LS998; this wouldn't have bothered me except it can no longer receive updates from LG. That coupled with the fact that voLTE probably won't be coming to custom ROMs (I'm using Verizon so I cannot avoid that), I'd much rather have a vanilla OEM phone that gets OTA updates rather than hack my way into an already stock ROM. I figure if I get a VS996 with the Verizon logo on the back everything should go smoothly? If anyone has any advice I'd appreciate it, the specs on this phone are perfect for the price.
Also I should ask, does anyone know how much longer security updates will be pushed to the v30? If the phones gonna become insecure soon anyway, and custom ROMs are a no-go with Verizon, might just have to look at other phones. Thanks for reading.

Frankenstein to VS996 KDZ. Manually install updates from KDZ. Gives you total control.
I hate OTA updates. I always update from KDZ.
Even many stock LG phones still have to manually update, like my wife's native B&H Photo US998.
LG promised at least 2 years of updates once on Oreo. So about another year. Nothing prevents them from going longer, the two years was part of Google Enterprise Endorsed agreement.
I understand flashing the kdz myself is more expedient, but if the end result is stock anyway I'd rather get it pushed directly from LG/Verizon, rather than download the firmware from a third party. I don't always have access to a laptop and rely on my phone too much to want to hack it.. usually only bother with custom ROMs when manufacturer support dies out.
Also, if support for volte goes with LG, and there's only a year left, then I'll probably just stick with the Moto g6 I'm using now. Was gonna give it to my mom when her non-volte device stops working but given how convoluted LG wants to make volte support I'd rather stick to something that has more assured longevity.
For now I'm probably gonna return this phone and wait and see where things go.. can always upgrade later.

Verizon VoLTE has nothing to do with LG security updates. People have Verizon VoLTE since launch in 2017.
But you can always buy native VS996 if you wish.

There's nothing unstable about unlocking the BL, installing TWRP, and then being ready for updates that way. With that setup, you can download the TWRP version of the ROM and install that, all without a computer.
As long as the ROM is stock, it won't matter one bit if you have an unlocked BL and TWRP installed. That's how my phone is, as well as my wifes... no issues whatsoever (both VS996 on TotalWireless).
You can do as you wish, of course, but what you're implying (that BL unlock and TWRP somehow make the phone less reliable) is not true.
Bump!!
I originally bought a VS996 for use on Total Wireless. and wanted to run it stock but the stock ROM would not allow Wireless Tethering which I wanted for my car. So I converted it to US998 rooted it and all is fine.
Can't wait for a Flashable version of PIE. One that works of course.

KDZ updates come from LG/Verizon. Where do you think they come from?
I often provide links straight to LG Bridge servers -- but they are slow... So I also use mirrors, but you can check the md5 signature, if in doubt.
However, for my rooted phone I use the TWRP-flashable zips devs create from the official KDZ.

I'm on Verizon, have a LS998 Frankenstein and WTF to VS996 stock firmware. Everything works like it was a OEM Verizon VS996 V30. All the tethering is working and functional on my device. I wonder why you had problems?

Right, what I meant was that since stock is the only volte compatible ROM for this device, once they stop providing them there'd be no more security updates as well. Unless someone's able to patch the stock ROM with new updates from Google? I'm not a developer so I dunno how much work that is, or if it's even possible in this case.
@Lenster45 were you getting OTA updates with the original Verizon branded v30?

Exactly. All he needs to do is Frankenstein to VS996 firmware. Doesn't even need bootloader unlock or root, if he doesn't want to mess with that for his mom.
Lots of Verizon users on this forum have bought LS998 V30+ or former LS998 V30+ already converted, and used them on Verizon. It's BETTER because Verizon never sold the V30+ (128GB) only the V30. By converting to VS996, you are making your own VS996 V30+.
If you do that, you do NEED an already-activated Verizon SIM card -- which you can use from whatever phone you are using right now on Verizon. Some people have even bought broken glass display Verizon phone cheap on eBay, just to activate a new Verizon SIM card -- then put that into V30, if they don't already have activated SIM card.

If you absolutely need OTA updates, then yeah buy native VS996. If you use converted LS998 you will have to manually install updates -- which I prefer, so I have total control. Even on my wife's phone which is native US998, and was never bootloader unlocked.
But for some reason, you don't want to do that and want OTA, then native Verizon VS996.
LG should provide updates for all V30 for about another year, for their 2-years once on Oreo guaranteed updates. Phone launched on Nougat, but got on the Google's Enterprise Endorsed list contingent on "imminent" Oreo upgrade, which wasn't so imminent. But the security updates clock started on Oreo.
We got Oreo in Q2 2018. That doesn't mean LG has to stop updates after that, but that was the time period they had to guarantee to Google once Oreo rolled out. They also had to agree to another letter OS upgrade, which will be Pie.
My mother has my old US998 V30. She's on pure stock firmware. But I have no concerns whatsoever about security updates running out in another year.
Anybody receive the May security update? I had been getting regular updates from Samsung, quite early in the month. Impressive actually. Haven't received the May update yet, so I'm curious if others have.
I have the unlocked version, but using it on the AT&T network.
TIA
Just got the OTA update. I'm surprised it's this late, considering all other OTA updates are usually within the first week of the month.
