SM-N981U1 May update - Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Questions & Answers

Anybody receive the May security update? I had been getting regular updates from Samsung, quite early in the month. Impressive actually. Haven't received the May update yet, so I'm curious if others have.
I have the unlocked version, but using it on the AT&T network.
TIA

Just got the OTA update. I'm surprised it's this late, considering all other OTA updates are usually within the first week of the month.

who's our daddy?

So who is responsible for the updates for the jetstream?
Is it HTC that practically ignores the device or at&t which is the only company selling it?
Rogers just release the Jetstream last week in Canada too.
I got some kind of OTA update on my first day with it last week though.
I don't really know what the update was for.

Have you received an OTA Update?

This morning I realized that my phone had not received any OTAs yet, so I sideloaded the MDA89D to MDB08K zip (find it here) and then got the MDB08L OTA notification as soon as the phone booted up.
In talking with friends with a 6P and looking at other threads, there seem to be a lot of users that are still on the factory MDA89D build, so I'm wondering if the delay is carrier specific.
FWIW, I activated my 6P without a SIM card and then have been using it with T-Mobile. Checking available updates always showed nothing was available.
It seems like Verizon users are not getting OTAs yet, as expected from an existing thread. T-Mobile users *should* be getting one since they are turning Band 12 off with it.

OTA got nothing to do with carrier you are on.
Sent from my Nexus 6P
I did not receive the OTA, but I did flash the new factory image as soon as I unlocked the bootloader.
yes just received phone in the mail today after setting everything up I got the OTA update installed with no problem
I simply just change the date few weeks forward. I didn't receive both updates soon so I just fast forwarded date a little. Then updates pop up on both times. Should give it a try before going on a manual flash route.
Didn't have to do anything, it just arrived while I was updating my S5 to 5.1.1.
Was reading an article recently where a Google engineer explained how updates go.
1% get the update first, if no problems
25% get the update, if no problems
50% get the update, if no problems
Etc etc
No mention of a time frame between percentages though.
I got the device Friday, on k version, got the l update earlier today.
Expect to see them monthly as Google is releasing security updates on a monthly basis now.
Need one for carrier less. Updated before putting sim in.
Got an OTA this AM on Fi Sittin on MDB08L. I have an unlocked bootloader as well.
I got my 6P today and turned it on. As soon as I signed into my Google account it told me that I required a software update. Didn't even finish the setup wizard before it downloaded and installed.
I ordered through Project Fi as soon as I got my invite. They sent the sim with it and I put it in and turned it on. Boom, update.
Yep got one today.

Interesting method, if the updates are IMEI based as it is believed, this shouldn't work.

It's interesting to see that, so far, most voters who have not received an update are on another carrier (or carrier-less), or Verizon. I was interested in seeing what Sprint users are experiencing, but there has only been one Sprint user voting so far (a friend on Sprint has not received any).

Unfortunately, I can't edit it, but, no carrier would fall under "Other Carrier"

Already flashed the update through mskip's toolkit. No wiping of data required though it flashes the whole ROM, not just the update (900mb).
I'm on AT&T. I got the first OTA when I turned the phone on for the first time, but where the hell is the November security patch? I thought it was supposed to start rolling out on November 1, yet it is November 10 and I still don't have it? What the hell Google? I understand a slow rollout of a major update, but security patches should be available to everyone on day 1, if not automatically, then sure as hell if they press the damn update button in settings. This is why companies don't take Google seriously when they talk about security.
I click "Check for Update" and nothing happens, says last time it was checked was November 30th. Tried rebooting, rebooting with no sim card . . . any ideas??
Just got one. Taking FOREVER to optimize apps. Painfully slow.
Just got my update through Telus in Canada. Installing right now.
just got 128gb 6P and got it activated on Sprint .. OTA about 15-20min after

First Software Update Received

So I just got the first software update on the phone. I have the S10+ from T-Mobile. It included the March Security update from Google. It did not list any other specific change in the details.
Does anyone know what this update includes besides the security update or is that all? Like does it fix the known issue of waking the display in your pocket?
Also has anyone else gotten this update on other carriers or other variants of the S10?
Also let this be documented that Samsung is very fast with updates now for this new S10. Releasing the security path only about 4 weeks after Google released it for its Pixel phones is very impressive.
Also let this be documented that T-Mobile is the best carrier for fast updates from my experience. They always pass out an update for their variant of a phone as soon as the manufacturer releases it.
Got the same update on AT&T phone today. 500mb size. Let see if they fixed any problems with it.

Question Ota updates

Hi I think I asked this question before and I can't remember if I got an answer I can't find it in searching so here it is. I own a pixel 6 which is now my wife's and it is from the Google store on Verizon network. I also now have a 6 pro that is Verizon branded so locked bootloader. My question are the ota different for Verizon I know some are but can I use the Verizon build on my wife's pixel 6 or does it have to be the global version? The reason I ask is because last week I put the global version on my pixel 6 pro and it worked fine well I mean the device was usable but now today I see i got an update for 7 mb and googling has 5old me that Verizon is only just now releasing 5he update. So while it still works it's missing something. I was just wondering if I should update my wife's pixel with the Verizon build also?
I think the answer is different every month. Sometimes they just have a global update, sometimes they are carrier specific. Google posts this info here:

I really don't think it matters. But why did you install the global version? Didn't the Vzw version come out at the same time? Nonetheless, take the small update and you should be fine. Is everything working ok? Many people have done what you did and I've yet to see anyone having problems that installing the other version caused. Worst scenario you'll reinstall the labeled update. Just make sure you tick the OEM switch in case.

The Verizon specific updates contain radio frequency changes that are specific to Verizon. Those changes have not yet been approved by other carriers, which is why they are specific to Verizon. In most cases, the next global monthly update includes the Verizon specific changes, so if you take the following global update you will also get the Verizon updates. You can take this months Verizon update to get the latest radio frequencies, or wait until next month's global update. It probably makes no difference which option you choose.

Oh I see so you didn't wait for the OTA but sideloaded it. If there is a Vzw specific one they've said before something like "for all except VZW devices" and then you were forced to wait. I think the small OTA you received would update the general build to the Verizon specific one but I could be wrong, I just don't know and it's hard to find the definitive answer. As stated above, I don't think you need to worry if everything is working. Take the OTA and forget about it.
I installed the October update!
New features and bug fixes.
Super smooth sailing from here on out.

Question About updates

hello everyone, I thought that samsumg sent updates at the same time to everyone, but my surprise is greater when I see that Europe has updates and not in Latin America, my question is then what can I expect with this, that is, will I have updates every three months? I understand that if I change the firmware there may be some regions where it is faster, but then I lose functions like volte and vowifi? It's my first Samsung, I'm waiting for an answer for dummies since I don't know anything, thanks

Updates are staged from region to region, just in case there is a major problem with the update so that it does not affect every region to which the update is delivered to. Furthermore, if one's phone is through a carrier, the delivery of that update will be delayed in order for the carrier to tailor it to their network (normally just a week or two these days).

Hello, thank you for your answer, the device is free, it is not an operator, it has the region and continuation of my country, that is, could I expect it to take two weeks to receive the update? It's just that I heard from people who said that it took up to two months to receive an update, is that false?
I'm in the USA and have not gotten the update either, i wouldn't worry to much it will drop soon.

South Korea gets the update 1st. Then it's sent out to other countries but even if it was sent to your country, your carrier may delay the update for any reason. Samsung is better with updates but expect 1-2 months per update for devices 1-3 years old. Devices older than that I'm not sure.
I'm in the USA and I was getting 1 update almost every month on my S22U around 1 week after it was received in Europe.
(I received the February update yesterday about 1 week after it was received in Europe)
Got mine today in USA for Unlocked
Got it today too on unlocked running two MVNOs, Boost Infinite (AT&T) and Tello (T-Mobile). I was amazed how quickly the update was done too lol
