I've had a number of smartphones and tablets over the years (and working in IT, I've used a hundred times more). On every gadget I've used, the touchscreen/digitiser has always been 'perfectly' sensitive, i.e. I've never been able to touch the screen without it registering a touch.
With my P9000, if I'm very gentle, I can touch the screen and it doesn't register as a "touch". This isn't really a problem, until it comes to using the keyboard. The bottom (half?) of the screen is a little bit less sensitive than the top, and this is a really annoying when I'm swyping. Sometimes the finger loses just enough contact, and the phone thinks I've swyped two small words in, rather than one big word.
Anyway, the reason I'm writing all this is to ask via the medium of a poll... Has anyone else had this? Is this common with the Elephone P9000?
I dont have this issue. But I read some (not all) screen protectors can cause the screen to stop functioning as expected

I used a tempered glass screen protector and then the screen almost didn't work. When removed the screen worked perfectly.

Did you use the official one? Been told that one causes serious issues. I have one from a company called brotech but I've yet to use it
I found that one of those plastic flexible screen protectors made the sensitivity issues a bit worse, and the tempered glass screen protector made it worse again.
(Again, I could get easily get it to respond, but I would make mistakes when I was swyping at speed!)

Yes, this was the official one.
I'll be putting my Brotech screen on later today. I'll let you'll know how it is
I noticed that the screen is very unresponsive (especially bottom part) when the phone is laid flat on a horizontal surface. When I take it into the hands it works quite normal.
I have the same problem. With tempered glass it is unusable. Even with out it, it very often does not register touches, especially on the sides
I'm using the elephone supplied tempered screen protector and my touchscreen sensitivity is awful...to the point where I want to smash the thing into tiny pieces. I've never had this problem with any other devices I've had. Can anyone tell me if the touchscreen experience is better if the software is flashed...to use Cyanogenmod for example...?

Hey guys, please vote here - who use screen protector with own TP2
And those who use, please describe here who is the manufacturer of your screen protector and your experience, how good is it for you.
Most recent HTC devices have come with pretty good screen protectors included in the box. I didn't use a screen protector on my first device, and I'm not making that mistake again.
anyone knows why they don't install it from the factory?
I voted and i own an x1. I use.
I've seen threads like this before and I've always wondered why there is even a debate on this topic. Why would anyone not use a screen protector?
My theory: The next person you see using a touch screen device with no screen protector, probably doesn't use one because he messed it up when applying it on the device.

well the picture quality without it is much better, isn't it? I have now 3M protector on my HTC herald, and it doesn't look as clean as without it.
You should use the Crystal Clear type. You sometimes don't even noticed that it's being installed.

That's true, but when you use your device for some months without any protector, it will never be so clear as with a screenprotector (that you can replace when needed )
Ranney
Based on what I read in the accessories forum, I decided to try a Martin Fields one. Had it on for 2 days now - so far, so good. The one that came with the phone kept peeling off at the bottom edge near the buttons.
I didn't bother with my Vario III, as the ones I tried seriously affected the screen responsivness. Of course it got a key scratch in the first 3 months:-(
On my TP2 I installed the supplied one, and will get a Martin Fields one.
However I've got to return the unit (dodgy radio), so it is vital not to scratch it before returning it!
I messed upp my original screen protector
So i bought the Copter screenprotector from Skalshop.se it's a bit rubbery, but other than that it works good. It came with some liquid spray for aplying the protection. A bit tricky to apply but worked good in the end.
Martin Fields - where from you guys are buying them? I don't see them at ebay for TP2
also - are they really the BEST? or they just have the highest price?
The store from which I bought my TP2 gave me another screen protector - I haven't used the one that came with the device. Probably cost them less than US$1-2 to buy in bulk - I never pay more than US$8 for one retail
Using the one supplied with the evice and it works perfetly (I was against screen protetors when I had a Hermes, but with TP I can barely see it)
I once had a device and when I applied the screen protector I hated it. It improved sunlight visibility by refracting the light, unfortunately this made it harder to read fine print on the screen. I also couldn't remove the protector and was stuck with it. Another one I had tried before that one which was removable, reduced sensitivity too much.
Those are reasons not use one. But as long as the available protectors can be removed in case you don't like them, then it's worth trying them out. That way you don't risk your screen unecessarily.

That's right! I use it and it's better than the one that HTC gives us: I have a new one because it was removed while in my pocket.. But now I'm happier!
I´m using touchscreen phones for many years (since my first PALM ) and i´ve noticed that the new screens are much more resistent. I think that you loose quality if you use a screen protector.
Just don´t put your phone in the same pocket that coins, keys,... and use it´s cover when putting it in a bag.
one other advantage with a phone like this should you choose not to use a screen protector is that since the phone has such a large screen and it's so touch optimized you won't get as much wear and tear on the common points of contact (like the "e" on the onscreen keyboard).
I use Proporta Screen Protectors. After I had used then in my Asus P535 I do not want another brand. They protect very well the screen, they were washable and also doesn't change too much the sensation of the touch with the pen or even with fingers.
I dont use one for a few reasons. I dont put my TP2 in any pocket with coins etc. I am pretty careful with it.
Although most importantly im insured on it, accidental damage w/ no excess to when the time comes it gets a bit dodgy ill smash it up and get a new one. If ive still got the TP2 when my contract runs out/upgrade ill probably wap a screen protector on then.
Today I received a screen protector in the mail (came free with a case), so I decided to change out the old one that came pre installed on the X10. Of course once everything was removed and when I started to apply the new one, all of the dust in the house was magically attracted to the new one, rendering it useless.
I'm now stuck without a screen protector, and have growing paranoia that my screen is going to get messed up. Looks like I'll have to order a new one.
Until then, does anyone have an X10 with the protector removed? Has your screen scratched after extended normal use?
I'll probably be stuck without one for a week so I hope it lasts.
Truth : I suspect you won't have much success, if any, finding someone who's successfully scratched their X10 screen. There is one user however, who's succeeded in cracking the screen -- I remember having read a thread about it

I've gotten some minor scratches but they are very hard to see... and from my personal tests the X10 screen hides scratches better then the Dell Streak

Rofl, I saw that one as well, although it doesn't really fit into my "normal use" category
I'm pretty careful with my stuff, I'll just have to avoid buses until I get a new screen protector lol.
This thread is somewhat putting me at ease though!
Semi related: Are there any scratch test videos for the X10?
Multiple scratches and a chip. Still don't know how I managed that...
haha lol. I scratched mine within 3 weeks ... I have now one big scratch and a few little scratches blegh.
Are you guys sure you really scratched the glass or is it just the original screen protector? The original screen protector scratches very easily. That is why I removed mine and replaced it with something better.
mine is still mint, I work in bean processing plant(dusty), spend most of my days off at the beach with the kids. That's no proof that it won't get scratched one day but I doubt it will make people think less of me if i have a scratch on my screen

I'm pretty sure they all have them stock. Take a closer look at the lower part of the screen near the buttons. You should be able to see it there. it is an exact fit protector so it's almost impossible to see that it's there.

Another quick question:
I've heard that some of the better screen protectors can actually hide previous scratches once they are applied, is that actually true?
I've ordered both the clear coat screen protector and also that free stealthguard protection thing, so I'm hoping that one of those will be sufficient

I put one of the free stealthguards on mine Saturday. I only used he screen guard not the full body though. It was a little difficult to get the oem screen protector off but only until you get it started. Once it starts peeling it comes off fairly easy.
i have my phone in a leather case without a screen protecter, never been a fan of them and my screen is immaculate... so far it is only almost 3 weeks old though

wow just found it, i never noticed it LOL, it's a thick screen protector, sometimes when texting i noticed the phone sometimes missed keys wonder if it was because of the protector.
so can anyone confirm that there phone has been scratched without the OEM protector?
I think that extra thick shield is supposed to act as a "shatter resistant protector" so that if you do happen to smash the glass you don't get shards and splinters everywhere. It is much thicker than any screen protector i've seen before and taking it off will ruin it.
I took my oem one off and now have a deep scratch , not a clue how I did it. If I could go back I would definitely use protection lol. They may not be as pretty as the bare screen but they work.
Hi all,
I've had my x10a for more than a month now, running 2.1 global and everything seems great. However, there is one thing that kind of bothers me. With the stock screen protector installed, I kind of feel that i can't swipe on the screen smoothly, lots of friction going on and the responsiveness isn't as great. This especially annoys me when I play Fruit Ninja, comparing with my ipod touch first gen. There is a noticeable delay when I swipe across the screen on my x10.
I'm wondering, will the sensitivity increase by a bit? ( im not looking for iphone4 sensitivity here, just wondering if it would increase after I install an alternative protector )
Do you guys suggest that I remove the stock protector and install a third party screen protector?

What kind of screen protector comes stock, all I have ever got on any phone was the cheap shipping plastic which is suppose to be removed, although I do see dorks walking around with it...

I took the stock screen protectors off and it's the worst. I've never had a touch screen work so bad. The only reason I haven't installed another is because the phone is defective, and I have to wait on rogers to get the replacement.
IMO if you want to take the stock screen protectors off, put a high quality one on right after. Also, I've been using the phone with no screen protector for about 2 months and I haven't scratched the screen, which is pretty impressive.
Yeah, I've removed the thin plastic that came with it, but it seems there's something more by looking at it's edges. Tried to remove it but wasn't successful in doing so...

The screen under the stock screen protector is the worst. And I'm referring to touch sensitivity, the images displayed by the x10 are quite nice.
So to answer your question, the screen's performance, for me, was worse after removing the stock screen protector. I've heard rumors that there are actually 2 stock screen protectors shipped on the phone. I'm nervous to start picking at the edges again, but if it's anything like the potential "outer" screen protector it's there but hard to see and difficult to take off.
Does anyone know if there are actually two screen protectors applied by sony before shipping?
Wow...I didn't even know it came with a screen protector lol. Well I'm removing it because it collects too much smudge/

there's is already a "screen protector" pre-applied on the x10. it's another kind of screen protector which i forgotten the term for it..and inside the box there is also a cheapo screen protector..so if u had use the cheapo screen protector..u are having 2 screen protector on ur x10.
anyway, the "screen protector" can actually be taken off, required abit of skill though. i had heard others removing it and comment tat it is much much more responsive.
but in my opinion i would not have taken it off,it was supposed to give more protection for our phone..surely SE dont put it there for no reason..
All that bad reaction especially in games has nothing to do with the screen, it's all about performance! 3D games with the x10 are horrible and mostly unplayable, you gonna feel if you try an Samsung galaxy!
Sony set the maximum fps that could be reached to 32.. which is in my eyes not smooth..
So for games you need another phone...
hehe i take on the protector that come in the box...so i have two.
The sheap one is terrible so i have ordered a new one.
But i will leave the one from se on even if i put on the new one.
Mine is from the UK and I didn't see one on my phone or in the box apart from the one on the screen that you are meant to take off.
I find that the screen does not respond well if you have sweaty fingers or even when there a drop of water on it but other than that, it is fine for me.
I got a screen protector from Stealth Guard now and it is very easy to apply. Now it works even with sweaty fingers and rain on it. This protector may not be for everyone though as my mates have trouble using it.

Yeah it's almost invisible.
I have removed both protectors that were on the screen. The only negative point is that its more exposed to scratches, nothing that a new thinner protector wont cure the sensitivity is a little better I guess but I think SE's bloatware kinda screws up the phones performance anyhow... Bottom line is that the phones screen is sensitive enough but the software is too slow, although I havent tried the 2.2 custom rom yet to verify this
Edit: Nor have I tried to uninstall the most resource demanding apps like timescape etc.
Hi everyone.
Have a question & a problem.
Question : Does anyone know where I can get a Stock U.S. based Rom for my ZU ? Seems all the stock roms are for other country's.
.
.
Problem : Lately, my phone has been doing this weird ghost tapping. when I go into a txt message, it just starts typing all crazy. on the home screen windows pop up & then disappear. All sorts of weird tapping is going on. camera pops up.. & so on. I have no idea whats going on or how to fix it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
FlashTool will download stock ROMs and convert them to flashable FTFs for you. From the top of my head, the function is in Tools -> Check for updates. Double-click your selections to see their version, then double-click again to download.
The ghost touch problem has been discussed a lot. Many of us solved it completely by applying a tempered glass screen protector on top of the anti-scratch glass. Some removed the ASF glass first, though that's a "harrowing experience" according to some. See for example this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2916279
Oh man this is gonna suck. I really dont wanna mess with the screen. I foresee bad things
But thank you for the help.
A tempered glass protector is very easy to apply and, if needed, remove, and the extra protection is also great (I've cracked mine ever so slightly at the top after dropping it, so I was glad it was there). I highly recommend you get one!
So cover the screen w/ a screen protector instead of removing the ASF ?
That's right. I had the touch problems with a plastic protector, but none with a glass one (Glass-M). Maybe others have been lucky with plastic, but damn, glass feels so much better, too.

Thank you very much.
So if I remove the screen protector, will It be as prone to finger print smudging like I do now ? It really drives me nuts. It seems to be worse on the ZU then on other phones Ive had.
Ok, so Ive removed the anti-shatter protector. Seems to be fine so far. & wow, 9 hours of work to get it done. Like many, the protector was coming off in little shards.
- Still haven't found a U.S. based stock Rom though.
Hi
I got the V30 almost 2 weeks ago and the sensitivity is horrible, i have to press most apps or buttons 3 to 4 times before it responds. I thought it might have been my glass screen protector so i removed this and its still the same. Anyone else had this or heard of this?
Nope. Pretty responsive. Think most reviews say the same.
Mine is fine. My V30 and now V30+ seem to work fine.
Sent from my LG-H932 using Tapatalk Pro.
Yes mine is doing it with small items online with websites and in most apps k use even with Gboard sometimes
There was sensitivity issue in past LG phones too. I hope that doesn't make an appearance here.
I returned mine today, got a replacement , So far so good on the new one, Mine would do it on large parts of the screen, I ran an app showing screen touches and on some parts of the screen i had to tap it hard for it to register which isnt right!
Glad it was resolved thru exchange.
I've only experienced a few instances of my V30 not registering my finger press, when tapping an "accept" button or some similar circumstance, maybe just 3 or 4 times. Could have been a browser / app issue -- the issue doesn't repeat, and the norm is the lightest brush of my finger against the screen is all it takes.

Yes , no questions asked , they just swapped it outright. The sales guy did take it off me and try , I watched him try and press the home button about 5 times without success lol. Hopefully just a bad handset and nobody else gets this.
Mine worked great until I put a glass screen protector on it. Now I am having the issues you mentioned. Isn't there a way to recalibrate the touch screen sensitivity?
The occurrence with screen protectors, specially tempered glass protectors, is pretty common with these new curved phone screens because the glass has adhesive on the edges only, and the screen protector does not transmit positive contact to the phone screen on a consistent basis. The solution seems to be to use a protector with full screen adhesive, (LOCA), but it does need to be cured. Additionally, this method prevents another nuisance... the constant intrusion of dust and lint between the phone screen and the screen protector.

Very common with the glass screen protectors. Lots of information in the accessories forum.
Seems to be a quality control issue with lg. When i first bought my phone from a Sprint store, I noticed the same issues you mentioned. Had a spot on the screen that would only respond to short touches. If you moved an app to a certain spot on the home screen you couldn't move it, only open it. Exchanged it the next day in store. The replacement device works great with no issues but upon opening the box i noticed black plastic shavings underneath the plastic screen protector that wraps around the phone.
