TWRP without format userdata - Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Questions & Answers

Hi, is there any solution to install TWRP recovery without having to format user data, and of course without having errors like "unable to mount data".....
Thanks, I have Note 3 SD running the last MIUI for developers (Marshmallow).

use the below recovery

Thanks, it works very well but I noticed an issue: when installing a ROM with this recovery, the ROM doesn't boot, displaying only the boot logo bit never starts

I think you should return to miui 7 then you can flash any rom .
I did same this
I hate to flash any from Miui MM.

Redmi Note 4X bootloop

Welcome, I have Xiaomi Redmi Note 4X Global. I've had my new phone for a week. Right after the first boot I updated it to MIUI 9, unlocked bootloader, installed root, exposed etc.
Everything was working fine without any problems. Today I wanted to try something new and I installed Resurrection Remix OS. Before it I took a backup with TWRP (through PC, I got backup.ab)
I was using the new rom for a few hours but then I realised that I preferred MIUI and I restored previously made backup (backup.ab). And here came the problems.
The device after restore came into a bootloop. Xiaomi logo appeared for a few seconds, then a single vibration, restart and the same again. After this I flashed (with MiFlash) a stock
firmware for my device from http://en.miui.com/a-234.html (the right one for sure) "Redmi Note 4X Latest Global Stable Version Fastboot"
Flashing through PC has always helped to unbrick devices but I don't know why in this case it didn't.
I can still enter fastboot mode and recovery so I flashed TWRP, made a full wipe with it, and installed:
-Resurrection Remix OS
-LineageOS
-recovery zip versions of MIUI (many versions)
After installing each of those I get the same result, a bootloop. I spent rhe last hours of trying everything in different combinations and looking for any information.
Can anyone help me with this problem, has anyone even faced something like that?

Well, try this method :
Download firmware.zip, Amy custom Rom, and Gapps.
Next, boot to TWRP and wipe (advanced wipe ~) wipe everything except internal storage or SD card.
Flash firmware.zip, followed by Rom and Gapps, Reboot.

If I recall right, I've had this same issue. So, do one thing download Recovery flashable Xiaomi stock miui Rom or download Xiaomi EU Rom, then as I said earlier boot to TWRP once again, wipe, advanced wipe > wipe everything > install stock miui > lazyflasher.zip >reboot. Lemme know how it goes.
LazyFlasher : https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=529152257862700328
Flash lazyflasher.zip if you flash any miui Roms other than Xiaomi eu Rom before reboot.

I did exactly as you said, wiped everything, installed stock MIUI recovery version and lazyflasher.
No errors appeared but when I wanted to reboot my phone after installation I got an information that
no OS was installed.
I swiped right anyway to reboot and here comes the bootloop again. :/
EDIT: Tried with both stable and developer versions

I also get those errors (?) while mounting during installation.
It's red themed because I was currently using Red Wolf Recovery but I get the same results when I use cofface TWRP or original TWRP

Did you just "wipe" everything, or did you "format data" also? I suggest that you format the data partition (there is a button for this under the "Wipe" menu in TWRP), and then install your ROM again.
You need to install lazyflasher only once - after installing a custom Recovery. - but -you must do this each time you change your custom Recovery (but only do it once) - otherwise, MIUI will not boot correctly. Note that you do not need lazyflasher if you are using a custom ROM (eg, AOSP, etc).
I had a similar issue after installing Resurrection Remix then trying to go back to MIUI.
I used MiFlash to install a stable rom but got a boot loop after reboot.
In the end I flashed a stable rom using Miflash using the 'clean all' option. Then without rebooting I installed TWRP via adb. Booted straight into TWRP and installed the no_verify .zip. Then used TWRP to restore a nandroid backup I had on an OTG USB drive. It then booted without bootlooping. So I used Miflash to reinstall the stable rom with 'clean all' option again. Rebooted ok like a brand new phone.

Hi, I join the cause @ Pr3z3s. I have tried everything. And I still have the same problem. the only thing that occurs to me is that someone gives us a backup, please do upload it, and we try to restore it in our mobile.
can you tell me what kind of unable to mount or unmount errors you encounter when flashing? my guess is that some of your partition is corrupted

Yes, I tried maybe 4 different recoveries for my device.

Those on the second screen I put in the previous page of this thread, like unmount of /firmware failed; no such volume
EDIT: I just tried restoring .ab backup through adb and an error while restoring EFS partition occurred so I flashed a stable ROM with MiFlash and took a backup of EFS partition.
Then I restored my backup again and after an error with EFS I restored it from a backup I had just taken - no errors appeared. Then I flashed lazyflasher and rebooted and still I'm in a bootloop.

here you go, my /firmware and /efs nandroid backup, seems like you have some trouble with efs as well so i included it , and to clarify things, my device is redmi note 4x MIDO 3gb/32gb edition running on cardinal aosp 5.1.1 12/10 with global miui v9.0.3.0 firmware, dont restore backup if you have a different edition because i don't know what will happen to your device . https://drive.google.com/open?id=1a8-tjbrkV8vNKaWcBsClbVlvBADinXSB
EDIT : I'm not confident that this will fix your device because it seems that either your /firmware is corrupted, or somehow disappeared .. do tell your results though , dont blame me if it becomes a hard brick ><

i removed my link because it seems that efs might contain device sensitive info like my IMEI and mac addresses, so dont restore my efs backup,it seemed to ended up spitting an error though. anyways, it seems that you are on TWRP , i backup-ed using redwolf, so that might result in the error, and yeah, dont restore my efs partition next try

Stuck with recovery and no ROM (OS) - MiPad 1

Hi,
I was installing the lIneage OS 14.1 Mocha and I came across a strange problem. The TWRP and TWRP img installed well, but when I wiped Cache and system and tried to install the Lineage os 14.1 rom, it failed and I was left with a MiPad without an OS. I guess it failed because I did not partition the system before I installed the Rom.
The tablet is turned off and I am not sure hot to get to the recovery of what to do to install a ROM. Could someone please help me with what to do next
Hold Vol up + power button till you see the Mi screen to get to recovery. Go to http://en.miui.com/download-229.html and download Xiaomi's official stock ROM.

Sorry, I've no clue what the issue is. I noticed that the ROM seems to be on the external SD, maybe try putting it on the internal might fix it? Or maybe or can try to flash mocha_repartition_stock, wipe, and then flash the stock ROM?

Maybe you can try flashing/re-flashing the partition scripts? Or try flashing http://en.miui.com/thread-328108-1-1.html instead, it's a slightly more up to date version of the ROM.

Hi,
I'm struck on MI logo. I'm on TWRP 3.1.1-0. I've installed miui_MIPADGlobal_V7.3.1.0.KXFMIDD_0d8dcf2bc3_4.4.zip, AOSPExt ROM, AICP, RR ROM but every time it struck on MI logo. All the ROMs are flashed smoothly without any error. I waited for some 30 min but nothing happened. I tried flashing via MIflashtool using flashboot rom but in MIFlash tool it showed 'error: Mismatching image and device'.
Please guide me.

Did you flash stock miui_MIPADGlobal_V7.3.1.0.KXFMIDD_0d8dcf2bc3_4.4.zip using TWRP 2.8.4?
11. Your Mi Pad now boots into TWRP 2.8.4
12. In TWRP select ‘Wipe’ and choose ‘Cache, Data, System and Dalvik Cache’
13. After wiping, press ‘Install’ and flash the ‘Repartition_MI_Pad_1_2GB_zardMi3.zip’
14. Your Mi Pad boots back into TWRP as no OS is installed
15. Install miui_MIPADGlobal_V7.3.1.0.KXFMIDD_0d8dcf2bc3_4.4.z ip (there will be an error, just ignore it and let it finish). Reboot. Wait 5-10 minutes. The MIUI welcome screen will appear, complete the setup.
16. Install DiskInfo from Play Store to confirm your repartitioning was successful.

bootloop issue

hi i tryed to convert my redmi note 4x to global when flashing with mi flash tool i did it without clean and after that firmware finish installing but got stuck in bootloop now i flashed twrp and tryed to flash custom rom but again bootloop when i check my storage it shows 9gb now when its actual is 32gb i think i disturbed partitions any solution available?
Are you able to boot into TWRP?? If not flash TWRP first using fastboot.
Once you have access to TWRP boot into it and perform a full wipe (System + Data + Cache + Dalvik + Internal Storage). Perform a format too after wipe to be on the safer side. Now copy a custom ROM or MIUI ROM to your Internal Storage or SD card through a computer. Once copied install your ROM.
If you flashed custom ROM flash Gapps after flashing ROM. Reboot.
If you flashed MIUI, flash lazyflasher after that(or phone will be stuck at MI logo). Reboot.
You can find download links for lazyflasher here on XDA or you can google it too.

@ArK96 is right but the only thing i suggest is to, flash miui and lazyflasher first so as to properly set up the initial firmware, and partitioning. After miui boots properly, you can do anything you want. :highfive:

Go here and download the Global Stable worldwide release version firmware.
Boot into twrp wipe and format everything. Also after that reflash TWRP again using fastboot.
Once reflashed boot into TWRP and again perform a full wipe and format, then install the downloaded firmware zip. After that reboot TWRP and try flashing MIUI.

Yes. Red wolf is more MIUI friendly, it is made with OTA survival in mind. But your issue is that the ROM is not getting flashed. You can try what I said above about TWRP reflash, if it doesn't work you can go ahead and try redwolf. REDWOLF is nothing but modded TWRP, base code is still TWRP.

Stucked in Google Loading Logo

Hi there, I'm using Redmi Note 3 (Kenzo)
Using TWRP, I tried to flash to latest PixelExperience_kenzo-9.0-20190507-0434-OFFICIAL but I always stucked at the Google Loading screen. It's almost 30 mins now.
Here's what I did :
Wiped all data(including Internal Storage)
Flashed the PixelExperience_kenzo-9.0-20190507-0434-OFFICIAL.zip
Wiped Dalvik cache after flashing the zip
Am I missing something here?

Yes I was officially unlocked.
I was on MIUI 8(Android 6.0)
The reason I went to MIUI 8 because I wanted to fix my "Radio Off" problem which seems to affect most of the Android phones, especially Xiaomis'

[SOLVED] My Mi9 Is bricked, need help because

Hello everyone,
Having a series of bug that I did not like, I tried to flash my mi9 with an older version of the EU rom.
Since, my phone reboots constantly on TWRP and if I go in the files of the SD card, it is big anything in it.
Basically my phone is bricked.
I need your help to get by because the only thing that starts is TWRP ..
Someone could he save me?
Based on ny previous experience with another Android devices, I think your Mi 9 is far from beying bricked. All you need is to flash a stock image through fastboot.

This steps can be applied for upgrading from P to Q too ?
You don't have to reboot after formatting data ?
But never reboot after wiping system, yeah

Uhh yeah! You need to reboot to recovery to see if TWRP is still on there. Formatting means EVERYTHING gets yeeted out the back door. When you format data, always, and I mean ALWAYS reboot to recovery, and then you can flash your vendor image following your rom.
well, i flashed the android 10 version from "mi dot com/global/androidqbeta" , then i wanted to go back to the pixel experience rom and it didn't boot, it boot loped to twrp, so, I wiped all the partitions, and tried to flash the global version that came with the phone and it gives me the error "vendor error flashing" and then on another try after flashing the vender through twrp "system error flashing", then I formated all the partitions and then tried with the miflash tool version 2018-5-28, and it says device mismatch, but I am sure I have the mi 9 cepheus, 64gb 6gb ram, do i try flashing it with the European version ? i remember it came with the global version ...
[edit]
well, i solved it by making sure i had the same name on the folder that i had on the decompressed folder .. i've never encountered such an error
hope this helps someone ahah
