Hey everyone! 'Im new to this site so i thought i might try and ask a few questions. Last Tuesday my rear camera had shattered so i was googling and you-tubing around ways to fix it, how much it would cost... etc. Anyway I decided to fix my own camera because it was so simple but .. even after I've removed the shattered glass and the adhesive, my camera lens will not focus at all, with or without the glass lens. Everything looks blurry, even when i zoom in. I've tried to clean it very carefully with alcohol and a Q-tip but i just cant figure out what the issue is?
Any Suggestions? Thoughts? is it ruined?

I actually shattered mine too but never messed with it since it's not effecting the camera quality even tho it's completely shattered with a hole in it.
Any chance there's moisture behind the lenses?
Hmm
I dont think theres any liquid behind the lens. when it shatters i placed tape over it so the pieces wouldnt cut me or move anywhere..... i even carefully cleaned it with alcohol and a Q-tip. Ive read in many places to clear the cache for the camera app but nothings helping... i think maybe its just time to let the s 5 go lol........

Its not clear...
See another example, white is kind of glowing....
Does the lens have any noticeable damage to it? I'm not really sure if condensation can form on the inside of a phone's camera lens, but that's almost what these pictures look like.
Hi, the problem with you phone's camera is a lens error. Since the lens protrudes out of the phone, it is prone to getting scratches and very foggy. Think of it like your car head lights. This has happened to my phone as well. What you are supposed to do is:
-take a wet clothe
-wet the lens a bit
- apply toothpaste onto the lens with a Q-tip
- and wipe away with either a Q-tip or soft cloth
It won't damage your phone's lens, just don't apply too much pressure. Make sure you do this multiple times! I hope this helps! It cleared a good amount of my scratches and the picture quality is exactly the way it was when I first got the phone. Good Luck!
Try putting toothpaste on the lense and rub the tooth paste off
I too have the same problem, I have cleaned the lens with toothpaste and significantly improved the quality. Thank you guys.

Thanks guys!
I used toothpaste, camera is back to normal
Hi, I have this problem to
Do I have to rub the toothpaste or just remove it with a cloth (without rubbing it)?
Also do I have to clean with water after all that?
The same issue with my lens camera too... I'll give a try with toothpaste ...

yup had the same problem, used this method and it worked.
Hi all,
My HTC One X+ seems to have an issue with the lens cover. I'm sure it is not scratched as I have it well protected, but it does overheat a great deal and I'm wondering what has happened to the lens cover?
I have attached an image but I'm not sure you can really see very well.
Thew result is extremely blurry images from the camera.
Anyone had similar or can suggest what may have happened? Or do you think I did scratch it without realising, its just it doesn't look like scratches, it looks like blemishes on the inside? Maybe caused by constant overheating?
I have the same with my X+, though with slightly less visible "damage". The photos it takes are just horrible: almost no fine details and especially images taken in sunny conditions come out blurred with some sort of misty soft focus effect.
I don't know whether heat has something to do with it or this is caused by something else.. My device doesn't heat up that much There's a topic here on the same subject, with example photos. I was actually looking for that one, but then saw yours.
How about polishing the lens? Might end up worse, right?

Hi,
Yeah, I saw that post, the one about using toothpaste? I'm not so sure about that really...
Mine overheats all the time and I get the red/green LED flashing.
Thing is, I don't remember scratching it at all as it has a protective cover (not the lens, the phone) and I'm sure I'd remember scratching it and the fact that there would be other scratches around it... I've tried giving it a good clean, but it makes no difference, leading me to think it's inside.
I may have to send it in, but can't really do without it...
Let's see if others reply...
Mine is the same. I don't take pictures with the phone anymore as the images look like crap now. I figured it was due to being kept in my pocket, keys rubbing etc. The lens looks the same as above, scuffed looking. My phone also tends to get very hot.
Pretty crap design if you ask me. I've always kept various smart phones in my pocket, none has gone this way even the cheep Huawei I had!
There's a film coating on the lens, probably anti glare or something. This is what gets scratched up, not the glass. Mine had gotten fairly scratched up too. I saw the toothpaste thread and did my due diligence Google searching on cell cameras and toothpaste. Spent 10 minutes with some plain white toothpaste and a damp paper towel, cleared the lens cover area and my camera takes great pictures again. Do some googling, lots of people have tried this before on lots of devices. It tends to work pretty well.

Today i tried to clean my lens with toothpaste but it did not work the scratches were still there. Can someone give a good tutorial, I tried it with white toothpaste and Belkin display clothe

Mine was doing the same after I'd had it for about four months. Photos looked grainy, washed out & not dissimilar to a 1.0 megapixel camera from 1998.
I fixed it by spraying a load of Windex onto a tissue and giving it a gentle but prolonged wipe. Now works perfectly.
HOWEVER, OP, has the problem occured after installing a new ROM? You might be experiencing camera trouble because of this, and because your lense appears to be manky you might be attributing the quality issues wrongly.
The toothpaste trick works. I have a much clearer picture, the is a bit scratched but the cloudiness has been removed. Much better and useable again!
I can also confirm that 10 minutes rubbing the lens with toothpaste does the trick.
Mine is a bit scratched as well, although I'd say that actually the coating is scratched, but the pictures are still OK.
However, I can confirm that the toothpaste trick works as I've done it on my Desire Z a while ago and it did the trick.
hi i bought HOX+ recently. i am not satisfied with camera quality of the phone can some one guide me which ROM has best camera quality???
How is the lens? Is the coating scratched? If so, that could substantially reduce photo quality. Search the forum, there are ways to fix this.
I had the same problem. Fixed it by rubbing the lens with toothpaste! Sounds weird but it really worked. I can't find the thread where I got it from.
Try and you will bee amazed..

+1.....did also the trick with the toothpaste and worked also for me........but i was very reticent at the begining......).....but it does the trick!!!

The toothpaste trick did also wonders for me. However, to be completely honest this raised the quality only back to mediocre. The camera is just not good.
Maybe I am just having too high expectations, though...

Ha, sorry to dig up an old thread, but so glad I searched before posting. I just got a HOX+ last week (used, otherwise in mint condition) and I like everything about it except for the picture quality. Way washed out and had blooming effect. Custom image adjustment did a little bit better but still unacceptable. I thought there was plastic film on it and tried to carefully peel it. Almost decided to sell it until I came across this thread. A little bit of baking soda and it's night and day difference! You guys are awesome!

Just wet your fingertip (dampen, really, not dripping wet), dab it in a bit of baking soda and just rub it on the lens like you're tryring to rub something off your skin. Wipe of excess powder with towel. It literally took a few seconds so if you have deeper gouges it probably won't work as well. I didn't have problem with baking soda going inside the lens since it's not wet and lens is well sealed. Toothpaste is a good consistency too, which is probably why people have suggested it. I just happen to have baking soda and I use it around the house a lot. Baking soda is in many toothpaste as a cleaner/polish specifically because it's a very, very mild abrasive so you won't leave gouges. Point the lens down if you're worried about anything going into the lens.

thank you..will definitely try it..since last time i used a toothpaste but it went in.. the build quality of AT&T htc one x + is very cheap...and spare parts are way too expensive.
Well, carefully with that toothpaste ... I've also tried it and went from bad to worse and now my pictures suffer from very bad quality. Had to order a new back cover, it comes with new lense, so I hope it'll be ok.
Cheers.
I tried the baking soda trick and it worked!!! Images taken by the camera is crisp and not blurry anymore. :good:
The toothpaste trick did wonders for me! At first I used a gel toothpaste, nothing happened. Went and got myself a simple, white toothpaste, after 10 minutes of rubbing (and another 30 or so of carefully cleaning up), this happened:
Is your camera lens dust free?
If I look closely, there is some dirt/dust on the lens under the outer glass. It luckily, as I can see, doesnt affect picture quality. But, I would think, if it worsen it will lead to soft or hazy pictures. I have not tested it in all kinds of lighting.
Background: My s6Edge was fixed under warranty three months ago after burnt USB port with fast charger(...). They also changed the front glass in this procedure (teck broke it opening phone?). Anyway; I dont know if this is the root of the problem, but could be its not sealed as it should.
If its an usual problem with the S6 , I wont mind for now.
I saw some Ifixit guides were you could just replace the lens glass, without opening the phone. Then the lens could be cleaned. I would do this if it doesn`t affect the warranty, should other issues arise (Knowing galaxy line from s3-s6, it will).
Any advise/experience with this problem?
Hi there sirs.
i have a problem with my z3. you see i tried to dip it down in the water, after that i noticed that there was a moist build up on the lens behind. Panicked, i tried to remove it using a lighter but very gently and quite a distance with the camera. i noticed that the moist did disappeared but came back again, though it was just immediate heating. so I decided to heat it longer than before, unfortunately i did not know that it was plastic because i thought it was a glass same with the whole back. now, the cover is somehow deformed, you can see that its not completely flat and smooth and there are some smudges inside. i was wondering since i heated that part, is the problem coming from the cover or the camera itself because everytime i take a photo it's having a hard time auto focusing, pictures are a little blurry and somehow like over exposed. i already changed the settings but still no luck.
I just need to know in your opinion, should i have the cover replaced or the camera itself is the one having the problem??
A good answer is highly appreciated sir.
This is the Z3v board for Verizon specific models. You may want to ask your question at the Z3 boards.
It's fairly well known that moisture issues are usually best remedied by a slower approach, such as opening the ports and placing the wet phone in a sealed container of rice (which absorbs water readily).
My guess is that you may have slightly melted one of the lenses inside the camera if they are composite. Another possibility is that the plastic or rubber that separates the lenses was distorted, causing a permanent misalignment of necessary for proper focal distance. Yet another possibility is that the heat could've altered a lens coating, like the UV coating, for example.
The autofocus uses contrast and line definition software to work. If the camera ccd sensor can't "see" clearly to get a fix on something, the lens will just keep trying to focus in and out but never get anywhere. It'll likely eat battery quickly, and overheat.
At any rate, you've probably done irreparable damaged to your camera unit.
You just need to change the battery cover. Most likely the back cover melted onto the camera sensor leaving it with no room to move to focus properly.
