Hey guys,
I saw this app:
HTML:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=it.android.smartscreenoffpro
but couldn't get it to work on my tablet.
Do we have a proximity sensor to do that? Or does anyone know of one that's working?
What cover
What cover are you talking about?
Yup tried it out. Its an interesting idea but I didn't really like it that much. As depends on your wrist not touching the sensor which is quite unavoidable sometimes.
But its a nice concept. Kudos to the developer but the hardware just not optimized for it. Perhaps a better version will make me change my mind.

Umm well I can't find it on the website but it's a Sony one, hard plastic with like a felt inside that goes on the screen, flips over at the top and holds on to the back. If that makes any sense?
Where is the sensor located? There is auto brightness setting, so there is a sensor some where....

The front camera, I think.

The point of that app is that it doesn't matter what kind of cover you have. It uses the proximity sensor to detect when a surface (such as the inside of a cover) is on the sensor and locks the screen. Quite useful, depending on the sensitivity and location of the proximity sensor.

Yeah, I just can't work out where the actual proximity sensor is, I couldn't get it to turn off with the app at all.
I Noticed with my girlfriends iPhone 5s the fingerprint reader is really nice. You don't need to swipe. Just put your finger on it. Think we might be able to modify a Rom to have that done with our phone? Or is it not possible because of the hardware?

As per some reviews that i read (AnandTech i guess) it is the way the hardware works and it may not be possible..
A quick Google search showed me this
What is a Static Fingerprint Reader/Sensor?
A Static Fingerprint Reader/Sensor requires the user to place the finger motionless on a surface. The sensor array must be as large as the area of the image to be captured.
What is a Swipe Fingerprint Reader/Sensor?
A Swipe Fingerprint Reader/Sensor requires the user drag the upper part of the finger across the sensor. The complete image is pieced together by accumulating the partial image as the finger moves across the scan area.

So it seems like iPhone a static fingerprint sensor and the max has a swipe fingerprint scanner
Pros of a Swipe Fingerprint Reader/Sensor:
Smaller imaging array
Cheaper - It requires a smaller IC chip, which significantly reduces the overall sensor cost
Swiping motion reduces contamination buildup on the sensor, which is particularly a problem for optical sensor.
Cons of a Swipe Fingerprint Reader/Sensor:
Less accuracte - Dynamic swiping may decrease the accuracy due to increased distortion of the finger surface as it is pulled across the sensor.
Swiping creates additional wear on the sensor surface
More difficult to use.

I've heard a lot of people complaining about the scanner on this. Not saying your complaining bro. At all. I saw flossy Carter rate it at 30%!! Lol. I'm calling bs on him. I have mine set up, and I rate it at about 80%. I'm not sure if he's just not doing it right, or maybe his finger prints aren't the greatest? I don't know lol, but mine works great. And I'm liking it personally. We all know the iPhone 5s is more efficient, but I for one am not having a huge problem with it.

its all about pressure tbh. when i first got the phone i pressed down silly hard when scanning but after a couple of weeks i get in about +%90 of the time, just gliding my finger over. A lot of stuff htc did with the max starts to make sense (no pun intended) when you use it correctly as it makes unlocking the super quick and super safe
I would like to know, which sensor do I have inside my redmi note 4x. How can I check it?
I think that "goodix" is inside. If I'm right, I would like to replace it for "fpc" sensor, but I've no idea how do I know, if the new sensor is really a "fpc" sensor.
Also, do I need to reinstall the "rom" to apply the changes of new sensor?
And are there any visible differences between those sensors (sometnhig what can i see when i look on them?)
later i want to install oreo rom and i want to get my fingerprint sensor ready (i have two sensors but i dont know if there are fps or goodix)
someone can recomend where i can buy fpc sensor
Short answer, no you can't change the sensor that came default. Its a hardware, soldered to the main board itself. You could try to reassemble your phone and try to get to the physical chip and change it, but that could be more hassle than its worth, and imho a really stupid thing to do.

Stop trolling. You can easily change the fingerprint module without problem. It's connected with a flex cable, not soldered at all to the main board.

You can check yout fingerprint sensor with the service menu
Go to dialing screen, enter the *#*#6484#*#*
And the first test tells what screen, fingerprint sensor, camera module etc the phone is equipped with.
Give it at a try

Wanna know what sensor you've got?
Go to terminal Emulator and type this
getprop | grep goodix
Show me the output. I'll tell you which sensor you got
If youre struggling with the in-display fingerprint reader then read this. I was having a terrible time with mine, reprogramming it over and over trying to get it to work consistently. Well i finally figured out what it is.
You need to very lightly rest your finger on the reader and it will work every time. Dont press hard at all or it wont read your finger correctly.
:good:
Even while using the light touch approach, it still wouldn't unlock just now when i woke up. Seems it need a software update or something.
I've got a screen protector and to me it seems the opposite. When resting your finger gently, the sensor does not recognize the print, but pressing down does work 9/10 times for me.
Not sure what's going on here...
My thumb works 10% of the time...my index 90%
Miss my HTC U11's home button fingerprint reader...
I've doubled up on the finger prints and it works slightly faster

I'm not really having any issues. It's not 100% accurate but is actually better than my Galaxy s9 one was

I have the same result. I find if my finger is perfectly straight and lightly pressing the screen seems to work best.

That is 100% wrong, I have the s9 plus my GF have the s9, never had a issue with either phones, the Lg is on a daily basis. I doubled up on the scan but same thing, the LG G8X finger print sensor is crap among other things.

It works perfectly if you do exactly what's stated in the OP.

You're joking right, this is my 6th phone with a finger print sensor, first with a sensor in the screen but that does not change anything. The Lg finger print sensor sucks, I'm not sure what you're trying to defend, it is what it is and yes I tried what the OP the first day I got the phone, including adding the same finger 4 times but it was no better than 3x, compared to the S9's the LG G8X sensor is trash.

Goodbye troll, have a nice day.
Gonna have to agree that the fingerprint sensor on this works better than my Note 10+. It isn't quite Note 9 accurate but after factory reset and sensor test, it works extremely well for me.
Try this:
Program the same finger more than once..
Mine works instantly 100% of the time even at 1% battery typing this now. It doesn't matter what angle or position. Program each finger the way you hold/want to unlock the phone.
And turn up the screen sensitivity esp if using a screen protector.
I came from a v30+ and thought i'd miss the button on the back. Just takes some getting used to.

Hello , is it possible ?
Someone said find menu (don't know how) and had the ability to change fingerprint ms speed ...
it's a bit slow at note 10 light
Hi, after update to xiaomi EU 11.0.8 from 11.0.1 vodafone, the finger printer is more more fast and read nothing error. I used to have trouble reading the print of any finger. Things have improved a lot now.

I don't think that the fingerprint sensor is slow, i think the problem is that you didn't register properly the fingerprint, and the sensor is having a hard time finding matches.
Try to remove your current finger and register it again but this time register the sides of the finger first, try to cover all 360 degrees of your thumb, you have plenty of trials to cover all the finger.
I also had a problem, where i registered a fingerprint before i installed a glass screen protector, that made the fingerprint very slow, removing and registering the finger with the glass on did the job.

i have done this , i also done to add the same finger 2 times ... before i had an mi6 and it is 10 times faster. note is slow very slow. i don't maybe sensor is fine and the processor makes it slow cause is a mid range processor. Mi 10 lite which has better processor is also faster than note
You cant compare physical fingerprint sensor with an in display one. As far as in display fingerprints go, speed on mi note 10 lite is completely adequite, not very fast but not very slow either. Every review i have watched had no complaints about it. I think your expectations are wrong.
Coming from ASUS and Mi Max 3, it's indeed slower. But likely because of in-screen fingerprint scanner.

Mi 10 lite fingerprint is not much faster. Its a little faster. And yes, that might be because of soc
