My batter stat is quite weird, please take a look at this - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

as you can see in the images attached, my batter graph are quite ridiculous.
I am normal user, and since the battery's fully charged, I did make some phone call, sms msgs, web surfing time to time, so that was ordinary use as usual, but my battery didn't drain gradually but the indicator falls down 10% at once after stuck at 36% for several hours which is quite abnormal.
could you please tell me what the heck is wrong? because I can't estimate when it's gonna shut down since the indicator sucks
thank you. and sorry for my english. hopefully I delivered the meaning correctly

Is it possible that a relevant third-party app is causing trouble? Perhaps give Safe Mode a try just to test that.
Reboot phone / delete dalvik cache and find a different socket if the above solution doesn't help.

Battery Life with New ROM 20060426

I am getting very poor battery life.
The battery drains within 24 Hrs to a dead phone.
Is it normal? I have heard, people talking about a battery life of 3-4 days.
What can I do to correct this problem.
Please help.
Hi Anand
I, too, had terrible battery life once I upgraded. I had heard that sometimes if you flash the ROM again over the last time it improves the life. I was skeptical ... until I did it last night.
My device was still at 94% when I woke this morning, and by 5pm this afternoon had only dropped to 87%. I have never had such great battery life! Never!
Give it a try. Can't hurt.
Kevin
I tried reflashing the ROM, but it did not had an impact on the battery backup.
Do I need to take care of something while reflashing it.
Thanks a lot for the reply and the help.
Has anyone else had issues with draining battery life? After flushing with the latest official ROM, 30% left after left switched off O/N!!!!
Any fixes? is it a known issue?
Thanks!
i am having the same problem...i also reflashed...but it seems like the device doesnt go to standby mode after 'x' minutes of inactivity as selected in the power options. is the same thing happening with u 2?
also, are u using O2 Plus?
initial charging
have tried recharging your atom for 8 hours when you first bought it? try it. it worked for me. it extended my batt's life
Yes, I am using O2 Plus, also, I think charging of Li-Poly Batteries does not require to be charged for 8 Hrs. Infact it may result into over charging.
By the way, I am getting precisely 24 Hrs of backup when using PUSH email support with Ms Exchange Server.
charging
check the manual.. it says there u need to fully charge the atom for 8 hours.. that's for the initial charging. i also called one of the reps in the service center for atom here in the phils and that was waht he told me to do. cheers mate
Hi try removing the WM5 Battery Icon on the top bar through the registry... i notice that helpson my atom. i have O2 batery meter running instead.
Re: charging
I have poor battery life as well. Unit is discharge within 12 hours.
I have a whole lot of applications installed, so after I've reinstalled the ROM, I'd my backup fully restored.
I am wondering if that's a mistake as it might also "restore" the issue with the battery life. Anyone has advise on this matter?
Thanks!
I neva did that 8hrs initial charge since too excited to explore on the 1st touch~ hehe..
Btw, it's said many times that plug-ins that probes hardware needs extra battery power ie. memory/battery/storage. I've none of those plugins and even on a2dp stereos, the battery only drops from 100 to 80+ on few hours of mp3s. Some players can switch off your backlight and still continue playing mp3s ie. WM10/TCPMP, see their button assignment options. You might also wanna remove that battery icon on the top right through the registry. Set the backlight 10secs, slider to 1-4 and power down 1min helps me alot too.
reflashing
heya ppl...what do you mean by reflashing?Cheers...
Battery Died on me
hey the battery was low, and i plugged it into the computer jack (to synchronize), which was supposed to rechareg the battery, an hour later, it beeped saying battery was too low, and was shutting down. and it shut off completely.
now i am rechanging with the charger, and the amber light is on.... but after 30 mins of charging, i still can't turn on the phone.
when i try, the green light seem to flash onmce every 30 seconds....... and i have put it back in the charger
when it completely discharges, do i have to fully recharge before i can switch it on?
Atom Manual Help
Well, after getting fed up with my poor Atom's battery life, I checked out the manual to see what it said about battery life. It does say to charge the battery for 8 hours intially, and for the first 3 charges after that you must drain it completely then recharge it fully--for a total of 3 times. Okay, so I did this and I haven't noticed a difference (I know others say you aren't supposed to do this with a Li-Ion battery but it's in the manual!).
Anyone else tried this?
The only other thing I haven't tried was reflashing (reloading the ROM).
It seems this issue is the bane of the Atom.
Battery life
try to reduce the "brightness" and make sure to end every task completely! 8)
Battery Drain
I already wrote about this in some other forum but this the same problem with my O2 with Bluetooth not more then 8 hours max. Without bluetooth. 20 to 24 hours.
I never leave any application running I use the memory settings to close all applications.
I still do not find any diff. I have closed the IR, I have reduced the backlight time to 10 Secs. I have reduced the backlight to 3. No change.
I have already complained about this to O2 but no result. They are probably stuck with Windows people not supporting them or with no solution. They are not even responding now on this issue. TOOOOO BAD
I hope someone can find a solution.
Flash the ROM exactly as per the procedure. Normally the last part is not read properly. After the ROM is flashed they ask to reset the device twice. One time a Hard Reset and another time a soft reset before you load the data and programs. If you follow the procedure properly maybe you will solve the battery problem like me and many others.
If you are using bluetooth switch it off and check you will come to know the exact battery life. Secondly in settings keep IR off. Backlight a bit low 3 or 4 as you get proper vision, without reflection and most of all saves battery. Most important close all programs by going to Settings>Memory>close all so that all applications will close and not consume the battery. This is a windows software flaw which needs correction but no one does anything for it, not even microsoft.
I am getting poor battery life with New ROM 20060426 i also reflashed but nothing
it's the same prob with old roms ??
thanx
did you perform reset twice after reflashing? first rard reset, second soft reset?
thanx kropotov with reset twice after reflashing all ok . after 24 hours battery still in 75%
thanx

[Q] Two issues - sudden battery % drop, battery % increasing when not charging

Hi,
I have been facing these two weird issues:
1. Sudden drop in battery percentage: I have found that this occurs only when i reboot my phone (not every time though). So when the phone restarts, the battery is down by 20-30% or sometimes even more. And its not a one time issue. I have seen it happen at least 3-4 times in the last 5 months.
2. Sometimes when I am not charging the phone, the battery % keeps increasing slowly. This has been happening lately since the time I have rooted and flashed my phone. 2-3 occurrences that i know. I don't recall seeing this when I was on stock. Just this morning I plugged my phone off the charger at 52% and I left for work. And right now at this moment when I am writing this, the phone is at 58% charge!!
Just FYI.. I calibrate the battery every time I flash a new ROM.
Thanks,
Sam

I think that Entropy can answer this better but I'll still give a try.
[Q] Why these sudden battery level drops after reboot?
[A] The sudden battery drops is a known 'issue'. It's not a bug, it's the way the fuel gauges are designed for i777.
[Q] How to avoid these sudden battery level drops?
[A] Try not to reboot while it's on battery if the battery level is <50%. In that case, if you need to, make sure that the phone is plugged in for charging and then do the reboot. That should prevent those random battery level drops.
[Q] Will using battery calibration apps help?
[A] No, the way the i777 fuel gauges are designed, there is no need of battery calibration apps. The best way to get accurate battery level readings is to allow the battery to go through full 100%->0% battery discharge cycles for atleast 2-3 times. After each full discharge remove the battery, keep it out for a minute or two and reinsert, recharge the phone.
PS: The weird battery charges that violate E=MC^2 law might have to do with your battery not having been through proper discharge cycles (and thus not having been properly calibrated) after flashing a new ROM.
@Mod These questions are asked many times, how about adding them to FAQs (not sure if that will help though )
@Entropy Please review this post.
Pretty close.
Calibration does nothing on our device - the fuel gauge is designed so that it will always converge towards truth instead of diverging. Also, the "wipe battery stats" method of "calibration" has been proven to do NOTHING on ANY device whatsoever - https://plus.google.com/105051985738280261832/posts/FV3LVtdVxPT - The "charge battery to full" and "discharge/recharge" battery are valid tactics on some devices, but NOT any Galaxy S or S II device (maybe the ****rocket and T989, but not the I9100 or I777.) - There's a slight chance this may change with ICS on the I9100/I777 but not likely.
The advantage of this is that it never needs funky calibration cycles other than "just wait"
The disadvantage is that the gauge will get thrown off in a few limited corner cases - and the "two" issues described are one widely documented one. The gauge gets confused and falseley reports low by heavily battery load immediately following a reset, and takes a few hours to converge back to normality (during which the estimate creeps upward, because it was lower than reality initially).
And yeah this should probably be in the FAQ. I'll work on submitting it this weekend.
Thanks guys..
So looks like the sudden battery drop issue can only be prevented but not fixed!

It's pretty much the characteristics of putting a battery under load and using voltage to dictate battery level. when you draw a lot of current from a battery you'll usually see the voltage level drop, more so as the battery is discharged. Booting up the phone consumes quite a bit of power, substantially more than the device at idle. So upon start up the device reads the voltage level to dictate battery level. Since the device is under a relatively high power draw, it sees a lower voltage than would be at idle. It in return thinks the battery is lower than it actually is, or would read under idle load. the battery level will actually creep back up slowly because it will read a higher voltage, than it did upon start up.
The only way i could think of to get a more accurate reading would be to delay the initial voltage reading/recording upon start up, or to use the last voltage reading to help dictate the battery level. But i have no idea if that's even possible, or if it would conflict with some sort of other operation.
I just don't get it!!!!!!!
I was playing multiplayer in bombsquad today morning wid my friend .My battery was @ 86% at that time
suddenly my battery came down to 15% then in the other moment it went to0% and mt phone got shut down. I plugged my phone in charge through the power bank and rebooted it and I saw my phone was @52 % I started using my phone and it again suddenly sut down this time without even a battery low message
it's been happening regularly wid my phone since then.
What could be the reason? And what can I do to make it right?

This is the wrong forum. Even though the thread is about a problem similar to yours, we don't know anything about your phone.
If you have a removable battery, you might try purchasing a new battery, but that's just a guess.
The forums for you phone are here.

[Q] Battery Level Drains Inconsistently

I tried searching this in a number of places. I couldn't find what I was looking for, although it didn't help I had trouble using the right words to search for it with, but here goes.
I'm running CleanROM Reborn 1.1, I love it! Other info is also in my signature. Once I turned on the percentage number for my battery level, I really started to notice this.
The number will stay at a number for awhile sometimes, even when I use it, then other times it will jump several points within a minute. It doesn't drain consistently. Anyone have any insight or suggestions? It's more annoying than anything else. My battery life is alright.
I would've tried wiping battery stats, but I hear that doesn't really do anything.
Thanks.
download Battery Calibration from the Google Play Store, then charge your phone to %100. open the Battery Calibration app and calibrate it. There is also instructions inside the App if my instructions are unclear
Im going to try this but for some reason mine only go to about 96%. Never 100% lately so I am not sure if I should do it then or just leave it charged until it is 100% and hope it gets there.

Not to hijack the thread, but the phone is designed to fully charge and then discharge to 95% and then charge to 100% again, rinse, and repeat. This is to keep the battery from becoming destroyed by overcharging. Maybe that's what you are seeing, Bambino.

I've noticed this too on Ics leak roms. It sips power with screen off, then drains quickly when on sometimes and hardly at all other times. Mine just sat at 82% for the past 20 minutes, then dropped to 76% over the past five. I've heard battery calibration is bunk, but I'll try the previously mentioned app and see.
Some roms do not use a percentage because they are so inaccurate and cause the user to obsess

A little info on batteries
The important thing to remember about Lithium Ion batteries is that when you do charge them, bring them up to full charge before taking them off the charger.
They all have a circuit board in them that remembers a full charge. (If you've every taken one apart you'd see this) When you charge them this chip will restore the amount of power that has drained.
Partially charging them will screw up this function. And screw up the battery.
Deep Cycling is good for them but not all the time. Once a month is good for them.
A good rule of thumb, but not absolutely necessary is to discharge them 50% and then bring them up to a full charge. Obviously this is not always possible when playing video games or watching movies. I always try to leave it on the charger when watching movies in the cradle.
There is an app on the Market called Battery Repair. It makes an attempt to reset this chip on the battery by meticulous monitoring the charge and capacity left in the battery. Running diagnostics and setting the battery to its best state. Its the only one out there that does this.
Battery Calibration app is good if you change roms or batteries alot.
Here is what it does:
Calibration needs to be done after flashing a new ROM, but you can calibrate any time you think your battery is miscalibrated. This program does it by removing the batterystats.bin system file. The OS generates a new clean batterystats file soon, thus any fake information from the previous ROM is removed.
It's suggested, but not necessary, to let the phone fully discharge after calibration, then charged to 100% without break.
The app shows your actual battery status, and only allows you to start the calibration (i.e. removes the file) when it's fully charged, unless you force earlier calibration.
The voltage meter can be useful too. Full charge is around 4200mV.

Battery Life Issues on [ROM]CM9 4.0.4 ICS Liberty[09.Jul.2012]

I rooted and installed the [ROM]CM9 4.0.4 ICS Liberty[09.Jul.2012] last night. It is very slick and so far very stable.
My standby battery life seems decent, dropping a percent or two every hour. However when the screen is active at just the home screen with nothing open, it is dropping at atleast 1% a minute. I am not over exaggerating this, it went from 72% to 65% in 5 minutes just now testing the theory.
I have the following OFF: wifi, bluetooth, gps, syncs (except gmail once an hour), live wallpaper.
I have brightness set to manual, and very low. I have no widgets on screen except a time widget.
I have installed a number of apps (less than 10) since installing the ROM, including facebook, gmail, maps, gvoice, twitter, espn, etc - but nothing that is using location or updating real time at any point (to my knowledge).
Any thoughts on what my issue might be? or any further info I can provide?
Thanks! I love this build so far, I just need improved battery life or I am going to have to try something else.
you tried wipe battery stats?
and for me this situation whith battery in first 1-2 days is normal, than when you uncharge your phone to 0% and charge it to 100% 1-2 times everything settles into shape!
sorry for my bad english

I wiped stats last night after charging to 100%. I let it discharge and turn off on its own, and I am charging it up to 100% again now. I am hoping doing this a few times will make it better, because right now it is unusable.

I heard that wiping battery stats does nothing. A google representative said that the stats only show what has been using the battery in the "Battery use" app. Not how it reads the battery.

It's unbelievable,i use very well ,does your battery issue ? did you install other rom test it?

Battery charge indicator defect

This is a defect I have observed all the way from Android 1.6 to Android 5.1.1, and I cannot understand how it can still be there without ever getting repaired.
The problem is that the battery indicator shows a positive number, for example, 8%, although the battery is actually at 1% and the phone will shut down any moment now.
This alone would be bad enough, but it gets worse. After the phone shuts down on its own, either due to an immediate, disorderly power cut or by performing an orderly Android shutdown, Android should have registered the obvious, namely that the battery is empty.
However, it does not. When I connect the charger and start Android, it still shows 8% charge. I have just tested this again three times in a row with at least one orderly shutdown on my latest phone, a OnePlus One running CyanogenMod 12.1, and it never went below 8%.
How can this be? How difficult is it to program that after a shutdown due to an empty battery and a restart one minute later the battery is indeed empty? It is not physically possible to charge a battery from 0 to 8% in a minute. It would explode if you tried.
Do the charging electronics not store and provide information at least about the very recent charging history? And can the phone not evaluate the battery voltage, which it measures? At least when there is no load on the battery for a little while, its voltage and its temperature allow to determine precisely whether the battery is empty. Why does the phone not do that?
Needless to say, this defect is damaging. To know how soon the phone is going to shut down is one of the most crucial bits of information for every phone user. To show the user 8% while already shutting down is beyond stupid, it is derisive.
I have something in my head that I call the idiot bells. They ring when I notice idiocy in my surroundings. And whenever I see the phenomenon described above, they ring loudly.
Can anyboy who really knows how Android and the charge electronics work explain what is happening? Or is it just the ordinary idiocy that we have to keep living with?
Do not suck nonsense replies from your fingers. If you don't know anything reliably and in detail, keep quiet.
