[Q] Rear camera Replacement - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 5

Someone gave me a SGS5 with a cracked rear camera lens. I replaced the lens and made sure I really cleaned the camera but it has these 3 brown shadows. They are small but very annoying. So I ordered a new camera.
My question is has anyone replaced one before and how hard is it?
TIA for any replies.

It's easy. It's only connected by a ribbon cable I believe, should be a quick 10 minute job.

Thanks but while replacing the screen I jacked up the digitizer. I can't believe I did that. I'm looking on line and the cheapest I can find is $125 . I can buy a whole used one for that much or less if I get lucky. Guess I'll be using it for parts now. Thanks for the reply anyway.

You can't. The only way you will have it fixed is to pay the fee through viewsonic. Sorry.

Technically not true, I broke my LCD and replaced it with one I bought on Amazon for about $75. If it is only the LCD it can be done but it's definitely not for the faint of heart. If you are determined to do it yourself send me a pm and I will dig up the link where I got mine.

No kidding? if you fixed the glass and stuff you should definitely make a write-up and post it. I think people would really appreciate it.

Hardware issue

I have recently taken apart my evo 3d and while prying the plastic off, i hit one of the ribbon connectors and took a small chunk out of this. I know it has to do with the touch part of my screen, as a small portion of it doesnt work properly. Im curious if i can buy a new one and replace it myself, because obviously my warranty is void now cuz i took the screws out.
I highlighted the section that i screwed up in this picture http://imgur.com/qYLw2
There is no way you can replace that ribbon/connector by yourself. You would need a microscope and some very expensive equipment to get it unsoldered and re-soldered.

Damn. Ok thanks
Wow what did you use to open it up? Looks like you pried it open with a screw driver.

For future reference you can get a case opener tool REALLY cheap off eBay.

Even if the cable was replaceable, it's buried under one of the antennas. So sad, what were you trying to do to begin with?

Actually, I hate to go against the grain here but..... That ribbon cable looks extremely easy to replace.
Look at this video and see just how easy it is.

Its not soldered in. Just clips holding it in.
I don't know where you'd find one but it should not be that hard. do some searching. even try ebay for a parts phone.
Good luck.

It is easy to replace but you have to replace the digitizer to. I think he just wanted to replace the ribbon cable.

Changing housing on HTC One

Hi everyone, I bought a complete black housing for the htc one but I cant find a guide to do it, the one from ifixit is not that great.

From the iFixIt teardown: "We won't lie, getting to this point was an arduous and daunting task. The amount of work required to separate the rear aluminum case and the front case was immense."
You sure you want to do this?

Where the heck did you buy a housing for this device?

Good luck with that. Let us know how it goes.

I have a feeling you bought some thing that's not for this device. I doubt anybody sells that. Unless some one damaged and took apart their device and are selling it as parts.

I saw the housing for sale a few days ago too, I don't remember what site it was though so I guess it's not a lot of help. But they are for sale and from what I remember it wasn't very expensive.
Here's one. Would be pretty crazy trying to do it though

Buddy let me save you the trouble. Do not attempt to take this phone apart. I got some scratches on my phone and lets just say if it takes HTC a while to do the repair then don't bother.

I got curious about this housing. I'm not sure if anybody actually read the description. It says Material: Plastic.
I work in a cellphone repair shop and I have come across a phone similarly built to the HTC One, the 8x. DO NOT ATTEMPT.. That being said, from the ifixit tear down it seems utterly impossible to do any "fun hardware mods" like a housing change. This phone has no way to open it other than to open it from the display assembly, and its glued down. The Galaxy Nexus is clamped together by its plastic outer housing and bolted together by the screws inside the housing, which is relatively easy to replace and swap out. This is not the case on most new HTC phones. DO NOT TRY IT!

This is what I was about to mention, that this is probably for the China version of the ONE. The one that has dual sim, sd slot with removable back.

Yea I didn't really pay attention to the one I found I guess, that is the back to the Chinese version. The one posted above me though is for the original one.

So how on earth can we get our batteries replaced in a year or two when we need to, but still want to keep the phone?

Factory replacement.
I dont think this is a good idea.
OP: If you decide to try this, can you make a youtube video for us?
I still do not recommend you do this, you will end up with a broken LCD assembly..

[Q] Changed my phone's screen, looks terrible now.

It got a few scratches even when I was putting it on screen, blacks are not black anymore and touch responsiveness drastically dropped. I bought it from ebay because it seemed to be the best choice. Can I get a geniuine or tempered glass replacement for my s3?
Yes, take it to a reputable repair shop. Anything on ebay is suspect.

My only choice is Samsung, and they say it's 200 dollars. Can't I do something about it myself?

The problem seems to be the glue, There is a space between the screen and the glass, thus making it look worse and the touchscreen issues. Do you know anywhere I can find this kind of glue?
The problem is you've bought a £3 screen replacement kit, which is obviously complete rubbish. Either pay someone to do the right job with the right parts, or live with the rubbish.

[Q] Shattered glass

I got my Z2 yesterday and unfortunately dropped it later that evening and the glass on the back shattered.. Does anybody know how much it would cost me to replace the glass on the back? is there something i can buy and replace it myself?
I doubt there's anyone out there right now who does it, unless maybe you live in Europe. I'd try contacting Sony, see what they say.
You can buy glass replacement on ebay already, doesnt cost much

I've been around a few places in my city today and one of them could legally repair Sony devices but that would cost me over 400 dollars..
I suggest repairing it yourself. Back should be easily repairable. The front is much harder..

Yeah, I've seen some videos of the z1's back being replaced.. Doesn't look that hard, I just need to buy the back for Z2 but I can't find it online.. I probably need to wait a few weeks.
