Is underclocking the Honor 7 possible ? - Honor 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi !
I'm always searching a way to get the perfect balance between performance and battery.
CPU clock speed being a huge deal in the better battery mission, I would like to know if it is "underclokingable" because I didn't found a way to do it.
Thanks for the answers

I tried using kernel audiutor but it did not work. Read that there are many more files (etc) which change the clock speed back to original.

Only with the appropriate kernel. So far there is none to my knowledge. Kernel auditor is just a frontend for the kernels capabilities.

Try trickster. It's much better for your situation

I have kernel auditor on mm+ kang and it's working fine with changing governer or underclocking.
You have to add kernel auditor to protected apps from battery optimization.
Edit: the underclocking doesn't stick but the governer does.

You are NOT using a stock kernel.
Try that with a stock kernel and share the results.

[Q] Setting CPU speed

Hello all, i have a question, i am using the Phenomenal 3.0 normal version kernel and is using SETCPU apps to manage my CPU speed. However, when i try to set the speed to 1100mhz and above, the CPU speed does not go up to 1100mhz and above, instead it always stay at 1000mhz.
Has anyone experinece this before? if yes, has anyone any steps to resolve this?
Could it be the undervolt issue that is preventing me for going up to 1100mhz?
Thanks.
Looking at the thread it doesn't look like the kernel has overclock capabilities,

I am not trying to overclock, just trying to go to 1400mhz at times but i just cant go past 1000mhz, only when i restart the phone, then it will go to 1400 at times...
seem like i have solve the problem by untick the cpu power saving under the power saving option. However, it seem like the SetCPU apps is useless as i am unable to control the CPU anymore.. is that true? or are there any apps that can overcome this issue?

Have you tried using other apps, instead of SetCPU, or are you running two CPU-manipulation apps at once?
Try clearing SetCPU's data/cache and try again
I personally use AnTuTu CPU Master, but that is a personal choice, I guess

Phenomenal kernel is a ready to use kernel. You cannot change any settings here in this kernel. It's not like any other kernel wherein gives you the ability to configure the cpu and gpu. Setcpu will only work with other kernels such as SiyahKernel. This will give you the ability to set the cpu and gpu freq and voltage. The power saving mode limits the power of your cpu, thus disabling it will increase cpu freq

Nope. Stock kernel will not allow you to change it. If you're on stock ics rom, i would suggest you use siyah kernel v1.5.2. I'm once a user of it. If you need a guide in underclocking and undervolting, you can find the best guide here posted by bala_gamer. You can also settings in his signature which you can use.

And you are very right!!!!! Doesnt matter what app you use u cant overclock on stock kernel!!!! Stock kernel doesnt have the provision for that. And if members who send links read those links properly before they send them they will realise that you need a kernel that supports overclocking like siyah!!!!!!!!!!!! Stock kernel doesnt.

Battery life and benchmarks for Ktoonsez KTManta kernel

Post your benchmark results and battery stats and settings here. I know benchmarks aren't an accurate way to tell whether or not a kernel performs well, but I do find it fun to run benchmarks and see just how fast a device will score. Huge thanks to Ktoonsez for making his kernel for this device! :good:

I usually use either setcpu or rom toolbox pro if kernel doesn't come with an app. There are quite a few cpu control apps on playstore.. Ktoonsez has an app that comes w/ his kernel on GS3 so thinkin he may make it in this but its very new. This is just build #1. Can't wait till oc is added!! Its gonna be great.

Here's the thread for Trinity http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2083885

While that ROM gets ok battery life, it isnt the best there is. Smaller ROMs with less features tend to get more battery as they dont try and do so much stuff. But still, I dont see a problem with AOKP PUB, it still is ok enough on battery. The kernel has a lot to do with battery since it controls your CPU speed, scheduler (which some use more or less CPU), and GPU, as well as voltages. So the right kernel combo can give much better or worse battery life.
Alright so i booted into recovery mode and installed the trinity kernel. Now once i cleared cache/dalvik and fixed permissions, i have booted up and in settings it still says the kernel is: 3.4.5-g3e87446-dirty. Its the same as before, did i do something wrong?
Its possible the ROM you are on has Trinity installed by default, or the kernel didnt install right. Also you dont need to fix permissions.
I'd try and reflash the kernel again, and post back if it doesn't work.
Sent from my Nexus 10 using xda app-developers app
Still not working, any ideas? It did say updating android when i booted up and scanned app my apps, but no change in kernel
That's really strange, do you get any errors when flashing?

CleanROM with stock Kernel has great battery life on mine.
Nope everything working fine, but i cant seem to get this to work. Ill try the KTmanta kernel and post back.
Alright so i got the KTmanta kernel to work, so i guess the trinity one doesnt work with mine? Now how can i see how much of a battery improvement this made? Is there an app or something? Thanks guys
Kernel and app in the first link, premade settings in the second link if you want them. Settings get placed in the tweaking apps' folder and loaded from within the app itself

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=40087947&postcount=2741
What does that app do specifically?
Allows you to tweak all kernel related settings
All i really need is better battery life lol
Then use enigma1987 settings as a base for further optimization. Read the forum to get the knowledge about the different options that the Tweaker app offers and adjust them on your own taste. I am getting an average of 8h+ screen on time with good performance
Well when the next KTManta kernel version comes out I will be putting out a new version of the "Butterlicious" settings as there are major changes to the kernel. In addition I will also post a pre-made settings file designed entirely around best battery life. Talha746, can you please list out the things you do most on your tablet? And any games you play regularly?
I basically watch videos and play emulators and surf the web. But as of installing this kernel, i cant even play a single video file! It keeps crashing and turning off my device, any ideas?

Yes, you can flash a custom recovery (this one or this one for example), and then with the Boeffla App for the first one or with Synapse for the second one you can underclock the CPU.

only benschholds kernel has the feature to underclock the CPU (via Kernel Adiutor or Synapse). Boefflas kernel can only underclock the GPU(via Borffla Config App).
(I don't think that underclocking has benefits regarding battery life on the OP2.)

It all depends on how you load the big-little cores I guess, and of course also the climate you live in. It's 3-5 degrees Celsius here in Sweden in the mornings so when I'm walking to work I try to work up some heat in phone to heat up my frozen fingers ?

The stability of these builds is a bit shaky, but if you read on the official ROM thread you can se which builds they are having problems using and which combinations of Gapps with them. To be on the safe side, you should do a factory restore/clean flash to avoid configuration incompatibilities between current installed nightly and the one you're flashing.

i personally love the "brething effect" of the notification LED. of course batter life increases if you use the undervolting feature (i have -40mv offset) and I also enabled fast charge for faster charging. i only use it for saving battery so i always use conservative or interactive... min. 300MHz max. 1267MHz work quite well for me. i still can play pokemon go and use all the apps like whatsapp, facebook, snapchat etc
i use Kenel Tuner, the Kernel Audiutor was buggy for me....
my settings:
min frequ 300
max freq 1267
scaling governor: conservative
cpu governor parameters: maximum battery profile
usb fast charge on
multi core power savings: aggressive
global voltage offset: -40
300MHz: 710mv
gpu governor: powersafe wich is 27MHz
the kernel itself is great. it allows overclocking up to 2800MHz (stock is 2,5GHz) but dont set more than 2700 because voltage gets tooo high on some devices and android crashes
the gpu overclocking is stable and some other MHz are added like 27MHz 100MHz and 657MHz
the developer added some extra governors wich are for better performance like Lionheart or smartass v2...
there is a feature called fast_hotplug and can be used instead mpdecision...
