Can't get LTE on Fido/Rogers - Verizon LG V10

Hi folks, I'm not sure if this thread is stilled viewed often. I have a question and I thought I found the answer somewhere.
I just bought the 990 to use on Fido / Canadian. I read after my purchase that Verizon blocks LTE on other networks, even when unlocked.
But if rooted, and mine is, that you can unlock the LTE.
Is that true?
And if yes how do I unlock it?
Thanks

LTE isn't blocked. Does your carrier use the same LTE bands as verizon?

Yes, most not all. I have it working now.
After a phone restart I need to click no to a prompt for global access. Then I need to set my connection to LTE/Gsm/Usomething. Then I need to ensure LTE legacy is set.
Then I must choose join preferred network. It connects to 2g or 3g.
Then I need to wait about 5 minutes and try clicking preferred network again and it joins 4glte
Happens this way after a restart every time.

It seems to me that with time it will connect to LTE even if you don't click anything... I have a local Lithuanian SIM in my V10 right now (pricing is so much better than anything we can get in the States...). First day it was only doing H+ at best (although at 10 MB/s Speedtest shows I wasn't complaining). Today I noticed that it switched to 4G LTE all by itself, and is pumping 63+Mb/s, which is better than anything I've seen on Verizon itself...

[Q] Data working on foreign carrier?

Hello there just want to make sure is this phonr working on vodafone New Zealand?
A local website says the phone only support vodafone 2G
Vodafone's mobile network operates on the following frequencies:
A 2G GSM voice network on 900/1800MHz (almost every GSM mobile should work on these frequencies)
A 2G GPRS data network on 900/1800MHz
A 3G UMTS data network for voice, video calls and data on 2100MHz
A 3G HSDPA network on 2100MHz
I know in some places voice call and sms are working, not the 3G data

This might answer your question. But looks like it should work on 3g

Watch out, though, people have reported it's not possible to enter customized APNs on the Photon due to Sprint's software customizations. This is necessary for some foreign carriers to have data access.

Shall I just give it a try? It is a lot of money though
My Photon works fine. I'm using it here in the Philippines...
3G is 2100 over here.
Bought it on eBay sealed and untouched. So when I took it out, inserted my SIM, and turned it on, it was trying to get on the Sprint network to activate. Since that wasn't going to happen, I just let it be. Soon enough it got tired and displayed a screen saying activation failed. I clicked OK and then it let me continue onto the phone where I changed the network settings.
I set mine up to "Any GSM/UMTS" and immediately it recognized the new network. I created a new APN to test data and it worked.
The only thing I hate is that whenever I reboot the phone, it always tries to activate. I think maybe I should delete Sprint Zone so that it stops doing that...

[Q] Droid X2 from Verizon to Cricket PRL update?

I switched from Verizon to Cricket, had my DX2 flashed at a shop and switched over Cricket. Everything works, but I rarely get 3G data. Usually it pops up for a minute or two, then disappears for a few hours again leaving me with only 1X.
Does anybody know the way to update Crickets PRL info? Or is there anything else I can do to get 3G connection more reliably? I know it isn't a signal issue, as it just simply doesn't work well anywhere whereas others using Cricket have 3G and good signal.

I'm sorry, but the name Cricket alone sounds solo, not sure how their network runs, but is this all you have? You can try calling Cricket, to manually activate your phone, changing our entering the codes manually...good luck, love to hear outcome..

You can try this mod:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466245
Also, I have experienced the same issue on Verizon, mostly when connected to a Network Extender. Toggling my wifi on and back off (with a connection having been established) usually does the trick to force it back into 3G.

For some reason, the airplane mode trick doesn't work nearly as consistently for me as wifi toggling.
thanks I'll give these suggestions a shot and report back

Cricket is a pay-as-you-go service in the Phoenix area and probably SW USA in general. It runs on Verizon's CDMA network, just typically given lower priority. However, I am basically unable to get 3G connectivity period. The phone has been flashed from Verizon to Cricket and activated and everything seems to work with exception of reliable 3G.

Force 4g radio, ignore edge

Hello,
I am coming from an Inspire 4g phone have been using the Not since its release date. I am having a similar issue with my Note that the Inspire had, but I am unable to work-around the issue the way the Inspire did.
My issue is that while my phone has great cell tower signal, my phone drops into Edge connectivity constantly. Prior to my Note upgrade, my Inspire would do the same thing, but I had a couple of work arounds I could do to lock back into 4G (HSPA+).
A) I could reboot the phone and the overwhelming majority of times it would go back to H+.
B) I could turn the mobile data radio off and then back on and again, the majority of the times, it would go back to H+.
C) The fix I used most often was to go into the phone dialer and dial *#*#4636#*#*. This brings up a back door to the testing screens and I could access the phone information section. In phone information, I could change the preferred network type and I would change from the default WCDMA preferred to either GSM ONLY or WCDMA ONLY depending on the area I was in. This not only work with near 100% success, it also locked the signal into H+ for longer periods of time.
Now that I have my Note, I have the same issue with the phone dropping to Edge service. However, when I try each of the 3 methods above, including *#*#4636#*#*, my phone stays locked into Edge. I can not get it to change.
I called AT&T about the issue and they explained to me that the phone will lock into the stronger signal, so if Edge is stronger, that is what I will get. I told them about my workaround with my Inspire and they could not give an explanation why it worked with that phone. I did talk them into re-sending the network information to my phone while on the call. They sent the information and while I was sitting still with full bars of signal strength, the phone miraculously popped into 4G service. I asked why it would change from Edge to H+ when they sent the network information since I didn't move to affect the signal and they could give me no explanation.
Does anyone have an idea how to make the Note ignore Edge service if H+ is available? If I can't figure this out, the Note is going back and I will stay with my Inspire 4G for now.
Thanks,
Roger

As stated, this is not available in stock rom nor TPC Note 2, which I am currently running. However, based on what I remember seeing on other Samsung phones, the *#*#4636#*#* feature I reference is supposed to do the same thing.
Thanks for the replies. Looks like the RAT feature is locked. Using the Rogers Radio seems to fix the problem, but breaks video playback at this time.
I found it an other thread, so I don't take any credit for it as someone else posted it, but I have confirmed it works on my Galaxy Note
*#*#197328640#*#* > debug screen > phone control > network control > band selection
You need to do this after each reboot though as it does not stick.
To work around this I have made a contact and only left out the last * in it, so all you do is use that as a speed dial and you are good to go

[Q] LTE Help

Hi. I just got the Z2 last week and I need some help with my LTE set up.
1. I am using my nano Sim from my HTC One M8.
2. I downloaded the att file for internet settings
3. Network Mode - LTE (Preferred)
3. The icon reads LTE
Looks like everything is working, but when I run a speed test I get terrible results. Like 0.5 mbps bad.
I have tested in various locations, but always get bad results.
Any ideas?
Thanks!

LTE isn't all it's cracked up to be .. I got an LTE sim to try recently in a large city. It turned out that H+ was actually faster , LTE was 1-2Mb, H+ was 7-8Mb , however in a less populated area I got LTE upto 20Mb. It's still down to the network in the end.
Thanks for the reply defsix. I tested on h+ also. Same results at 0.5 Mbps.
I know it comes down to coverage, but LTE is good in my area. I tested my wife's iPhone and got about 5 mbps at the same time I got 0.5.
That's why I'm not sure if I don't have something set up right.
So if I am getting the LTE icon is it just bad luck?

I'm assuming you have the correct settings on your phone ? Network settings etc.
Did you call AT&T to register the IMEI of the phone to provision it?
I've heard from several folks on att that you have to call them to set it up.
Drop by an AT&T store to see if you can get a new SIM card. Yours maybe outdated such that the newer one which could have newer information to support other towers.
I'm actually to change my SIM card up because one area I usually go to is a bit weak and they did look at my SIM card info and told me mine was an older one and try getting a new one.
If you did all the updates on the phone it shouldn't even show LTE but 4G instead. From my understanding one of the updates broke the LTE symbol so it doesnt show anymore. Mine never says it and I live in an LTE Att area.

[SOLVED] Lazy to change mode between LTE/UMTS/GSM?

I'm experiencing an odd issue on the SD RedMi Note 4 of my wife (ROM: v8.5.8.0 NCFMIED): where LTE signal is weak and other mobiles switch to GSM (2G) and are still reachable, the RedMi of my wife is still trying to get LTE signal, ending up offline for _long_ times.
I tried to switch preferred mode to "LTE/UMTS auto (PRL)" (mido default choice when "prefer LTE" is selected is "LTE/TD-SCDMA/UMTS", which appears to include the Chinese 3G standard too) like my OnePlus 3, which never looses network, but it didn't help: the only way to have it reliably reachable is switching to "GSM only".
I didn't find anything relevant neither by searching nor by browsing the first 30 pages of this subforum: is there anything we can do to improve this? Thanks!
go to about phone. tap multiple times on total memory, a window will open up. open phone information 1,2. choose type of network you want from multiple options

That indeed solves the issue as I wrote, but I don't think that my wife would be happy if I tell her she has to check the signal all the time and, eventually, _try_ to manually switch to "GSM only", and go back when the signal strength improves... that should be modem job!
Update: the affected SIM was in slot 2; moving the SIM to the first slot seems to improve the mode switch. Still the sensitivity doesn't seem exceptional, or perhaps there is some other issue (1), but at least it seems to correctly switch from 4G to 3G and even 2G where the signal is weak.
Testing in "LTE/UMTS auto (PRL)" mode now (I don't need TD-SCDMA here, I assume there is less overhead with less modes); wondering whether is a modem (read: Qualcomm) issue or a MIUI bug.
(1) sometimes the device still looses the network where my OP3 seems connected with very weak signal (-105 dBm) and LTE Discover reports "Potential eCSFB issue detected" (which sounds odd since eCFSB is a CDMA thing, and there aren't any CDMA network here in Italy AFAIK: could it be the way LTE Discover tells that the phone is unable to handshake an existing network?), until it reconnects. Moreover, it seems that RN4 tends to prefer 3G over 2G even when mobile data is off, which is not a good strategy IMO.
Edit: LTE Discover reports "Potential eCSFB issue detected" also on OP3, which works perfectly: it seems its shown when the terminal was unable to successfully register on a network and stays idle until the next connection attempt
I have sort of similar and opposite problems in the USA.
Mine switches from LTE to whatever H+ is and then never switches back on its own. I'm blaming Xiaomi over Qualcomm.

I tried it, it worked if I used the root option and manually hit the refresh button. I read that the auto refresh only works if the signal is one bar or whatever or less.
My signal is strong when it's on H+, so it would never get low enough to make it auto refresh.
What I need is something that would switch my preferred network to Prefer 3G and back to Prefer LTE whenever I'm on H+ for a while, because that gets me back on LTE every time provided that there's LTE in that area.
My Redmi Note 4x international should be capable to connect to the 1800mhz band, which is available in my neighborhood. Sadly I haven't had 4g or LTE since I've gotten this phone (4 weeks) any ideas why it won't connect?

Thank you: started testing. It seems that, despite the better signal, even after refreshing the device still ignores 2G and tries to connect in LTE or H+ mode. I'll see in the next days.

Yep, that's very same issue I'm experiencing. I was feeling alone: in the MI forums I couldn't find no one complaining about that.
Did you notice that when the device connects to a Wi-Fi network the cellular signal indicator suddenly rises (it appears to indicate Wi-Fi signal strength) and appears "4G" next to operator's name, even if cellular data is off?
Too bad, if RN4 didn't have such a bugged radio it was a real bang for the buck.

Try to get some more info from the "LTE Discovery" app: is the device registered on the 4G network but internet access is absent or the device doesn't even register on the 4G network? Does the device detect the 4G signals?
In this thread we are discussing about the opposite problem: our devices don't switch to 2G when the signal is weak...

Unfortunately it didn't help: it doesn't seem to improve overall operation. It even asks to refresh the Wi-Fi connection when there is no cellular signal...
There is really something ill in this modem. Sometimes the signal indicator shows Wi-Fi signal strength instead of cellular. I hope some future release will fix at least some of these issues.

Thank you. I think it's not necessary: since yesterday I'm running MIUI v9.0.3.0 and things improved considerably. I'm quite sure the issue was MIUI 8 which had a complete modem mess, not the app, that was doing its honest work just as it was possible.
