This is a really important question that has not been discussed yet. It's good that you didn't try finding the answer before posting the question. Asking it here is very beneficial to the community. Thank you very much for this important post.

It's crap, the only thing I noticed was it removed move to SD, and updated some system apps.

20h - lost root
I did lose root after this update.
I keep getting incessant update notifications. On rooted 20g now, assume its either 20f or h. This crap from LG/Tmob needs to stop. After the first update i predicted this will go on and on and on until there aren't any more letters left in the alphabet but then LG may use double letters. Hopefully 20z will be the last one. I can't take this crap anymore. Make one fking rom, work out all the bugs, etc. and let it be a finished product! I'm tired of rooting, debloating, setting up all apps, and then a few weeks later a new update is out and i have to update or keep canceling notifications every hour or so. Fking ridiculous. Rooted can't get OTA update, will likely need to use LG tool which will never work with win8 64 or possibly spontaneously will work with w7 if i'm lucky and only after many attempts. Argghhh it never ends with fking LG. They make everything so difficult. I miss my old samsung.
Is 20h rootable yet? Bootloader unlockable in 769 tmob?

I think the camera is broken. In two of JB camera apps video no longer works. Even older versions don't work. Stock camera app still takes video but i hate it. Any more updates coming? Still plenty of numbers and letters left. I'm very tired of updating and setting up afterwards. Most retarded phone i ever had, pain in the ass.

Not everyone. Haven't seen boo yet in Canada. Not sure I want it yet either with all the bugs reported. Might be a blessing to still be on JB

KK is so old and were talking new features?? Oh wait its old on my N7, I dont have KK on my Verizon G2 yet.
Its Pretty sad..... I dont even have KK yet on my G2 and I am already debating on which new phone I am going to grab soon, the LG G3 or the HTC one M8. I had the last HTC One, HTC has been kicking ass releasing updates thats for sure!!
no kitkat in UK yet, its a joke, this is supposed to be a flagship product, the G3 will be released soon and lg will just take a massive dump on the G2 and leave it full of bugs.
This is a futuristic thread! I'm also hoping for kitkat someday on the LS980.

I got my LG G2 on September 20 2013 at AT&T, paid $540.00 regular price for it. My G2 runs stock AT&T, not rooted. Never a problem before the official 4.4.2 Kit Kat upgrade via OTA. The good after the upgrade; transparent notification bar, super battery duration, faster internet use. The bad after Kit Kat; I have to use zoom to open my apps at Google Play Store, now they don't opens the normal way. Knock on to open the screen is gone dead.

It sounds to me that you got a corrupted upgrade. I have had no issues with kk, and the knock on feature is around 2x faster than previous. Maybe you should call ATT and have them fix your phone

Official AT&T OTA upgrade corrupted ? This guys are Saints, or I'm wrong. Ha, ha, no my friend. I already go to AT&T store, this is the store where I open my account four years ago, where I bought my first android phone HTC ONE X, my second one HTC ONE X+ with 64GB internal memory, my third one HTC ONE, my current LG G2. I explain the situation and they said “ What ? ”, ha, ha, Land of IPhone this AT&T guys. They're really nice, but don't know nothing about Android. They said " let's take your G2 away just to fixed it, you can go with this freaking IPhone for some days ”. No way, my G2 is great even without knock on screen. I decided just wait for the release of the LG G3 or go for the Samsung Galaxy S5. Don't make a decision yet, will see. But one thing is clear like butter on bread, AT&T is IPhone Land. This guys are nice but don't even know of the existence of XDA, Android Central, or any other Android forum.

Here's a very important one, in my view, possibly a breakthrough for Android. With KitKat, there is virtually no lag when answering calls. I can swipe the Answer button, speak instantly and be heard. I'm coming from an S3 mini which had at least one second of silence after answering calls, so I'm excited about this.
There was not much lag to speak of in 4.2.2 anyway, but now it's completely gone.

Battery dies super fast, and weird random data issues... other than that, no improvements. Anyone know if it's still possible to put 4.2 back on the Tmo D801?
Ffs I don't want kitkat update now, we have better developers on xda than lg seem to have.

I love how much better my battery life has become, as well as google maps now functioning proper on bluetooth with turn by turn instructions whilst listening to music.
Before bluetooth and location would drain in 1,5 hours even while charging, now it doesnt anymore.
Its faster, feels more stable and all without debloating. I love it. A week in using.

I'm due for an upgrade and I like the lg g3 because of the screen size and smallish body. And also its rootbale. But if you could upgrade right now would you choose the g3 again or maybe the droid turbo or note 4 or nexus 6? I have a rooted note 2 right now and love the screen size and the stuff I can customize on it. I hear good things about the g3 other than battery doesn't last to long. What are your thoughts?
Well MY LG G3 has a fantastic battery and I am not rooted...I compare it to the Droid RAZR MAXX with a 3300 ma/h it's replacing. I have had the G3 for 8 days. That said...I do not stream video or play tunes. Yesterday, when I had 44 minutes of screen time and the phone off charge for 10 hours I was at 84%. I am good with that!
There is nothing wrong EXCEPT the bottom microphone. It is positioned on the bottom left when you face the phone and better positioned for those that hold the phone to their Right ear not the left. Regardless it still does not have the best pickup when compared to even much older phones. I am unsure if it's a software or hardware issue. I think hardware as I exchanged my first G3 after 5 days for this reason. The replacement is no better. Lots written on the internet about this problem. For me, as a right ear talker, holding the phone lower so the palm 'cups' allows my voice to rebound into the mic.
Other than the above it is a kick butt phone. The camera is excellent as in no LAG. Many users key on megapixels. I key on LAG the Turbo is bad laggy!
The major customization I use is Nova Launcher Prime. You must install Nova Launcher first: NOVA Launcher. I believe this reduces any UI phone lag people talk about. My G3 is smooth and fast! You do lose the knock-knock off on the screen but by double tapping the status bar the phone shuts off and by using Nova Prime and it's gestures and the Screen off app Screen Off you have the same function.
I went to two different Verizon stores and talked to more than 4 agents as I upgraded then exchanged. Everyone said that the G3 was best of its size and class. For me that was Turbo, Droid MAXX, Galaxy S5 and Xperia Zv3
Verizon gives you a 14 day $35 exchange period.
Wouldn't even have to think about it. The Droid Turbo, and Note 4 have locked bootloaders, that will probably never be unlocked, and the Nexus 6, doesn't have a memory card slot, or a removable battery. LG G3, FTW! BTW, I find battery life to be perfectly acceptable, with this phone. It lasts me all day.
As long as it can last from 630am to maybe 11pm with about 3.5 hours screen time I'd be happy. I really would love to have a phone that can be rooted still but I've never had an android phone that wasn't rooted so I don't k know if it would bother me or not

It would bother the crap out of me. I suppose, once they start locking down all phones, for good, I'll have to switch to a Nexus. That is, if Verizon continues to carry Nexus devices. Can't give up my unlimited data.

Yes, you can use Flashify, instead of ADB commands. Also, be aware, if your phone comes with the 11C build, you'll have to roll it back to the 10B build, beforehand.

yes, if you are on 10b. since they will activate and do all the crap you may have the updated 11c. no worries. just flash back to 10b and stump and bump and install the rom of your choice or just stick with stock and freeze apps. I'm currently running jasmine3.0 which is the 11c updated onto the stock rom with all vzw apps frozen. I like this phone so much I wish I could buy a backup incase I lose or drop it cause I'm sure I'll be happy with it for the next 2 or 3 years. I'm afraid they might come blocked with a newer updated firmaware where we can't stump and especially bump it.

How do you go back to 10b?
To get back to v10b, you read threads here on XDA until you understand one of the clearly explained methods and use that. .kdz or .tot flashing is what you are looking for. Kdz is easier.

With the tmobile variant having pulled the fastboot codes (**** move) its obvious we may never see a root method (that is publicly shared anyway. ?)
Current v30 users. Do you miss root? If not, why? I've always had rooted devices but this will be tough to have a stock unchangeable device. (I can't afford to buy the unlocked version at once)
I definitely miss root, but my wife has the OnePlus 3T and messing with her phone scratches that itch for me. If the V30 gets root great, if not oh well.
I don't currently have v30 and really want root back on my daily. I have a few older phones with root that does the tasks I want root for. And the V30+ coming to T-Mobile, with the ability to remove bloat with adb, I may go with it.
I have the v20 on tmobile rooted and unlocked but I feel like my wife is going to get me an upgrade as she keeps asking me about if I like it.
Haven't missed root in years.
To be honest, no.
The only thing I wanted is bootloader unlock and ROM support later on.
That's just so it prolong the life of the device. But when it's still relatively new, no it doesn't matter. Since we can use package Disabler to disable unwanted stock apps anyways.
I have yet to buy a V30 but having root isn't going to stop me from purchasing one. I am used to rooting my devices, having Nexus devices for years. I usually keep the phone close to stock though, just removing bloatware, Google garbage, modifying the HOSTS file to block ads, and backing up my SMS/MMS. Disabling apps doesn't free up space but it does effectively produce the same effect as removing them through root. The V30 is also theme friendly and there are plenty of themes out there to choose from. Most browsers offer fairly decent ad blocking but that won't work for apps that pull ads where editing the HOSTS file usually does the trick. In the end, that will make me more picky about the apps I use and to look for premium ad-free versions. Backing up texts isn't a huge deal breaker for me. I prefer the ability to but it isn't a must-have feature. All of that said... I will miss root but it isn't absolutely necessary, at least for me.
Seems like its getting more difficult to get root on newer phones....I guess next will be phasing out all custom ROM's.... :crying:

Without root u can remove any app using ADB. But disabling is easier with lg package disabler. Apps and browser ad blocker use something like adguard, dns66, blokada work just has good like adaway root. personally i use blokada since it does not drain any battery unlike adguard.
Battery life and ad blocking was the biggest peeves for root with me. Any snags with this?

I use blockada and it works just like adaway. Doesnt drain battery.ake everything much faster (apps and browser) since theres no ads.

Do the disabling package from my guide using lg package disable.
Also what will work very well is NAPTIME. You will need adb and use the commands require for the apps to get permission and work.
I used to love to root my devices but I really don't feel the itch on the V30. Then again the last time I rooted was to put a ROM on my Note 3. Touchwiz and all the bloatware really slowed that device down. Android has come a long way since then I think.
Only things I'd miss are titanium backup and control of the governor/frequencies/ etc.

Edit: Thanks person above, Blockada saved me from the torture of using Zedge with ads!

I think I sold. I'm going to miss root but I really don't need it anymore. I usually buy my apps now so I don't need to crack license verification and I have youtube red. Plus Samsung browser with unicorn seems to work for my ad problem... And blockada does wonders for non browser ad blocking. Also with oreo having substratum built in is another reason for root gone (oreo hopefully coming soon) I'll probably get the v30+ on tmobile
I miss it but quite frankly I am quite happy with this phone. I love using Android Pay (I know, I know Magisk) but even the best ROMs always have a bug or two. We have a 2 year warranty. I suspect if I truly miss it...an Exynos Galaxy will be my next phone. But for now...im quite happy with a Stock V30.

If you truly miss it, why would Exynos Samsung Galaxy be your next phone... And not LG open market version which easily has root?
The open market version of LG phones is the equivalent of Samsung flagship Exynos phones, for bootloader unlock and root.
Just buy the LG V30 which CAN be rooted, no need to buy another brand phone.
It's not that LG phones can't be rooted. You just to buy the right ones.

We'll get more security patches due to the Enterprise Recommended agreement with Google.
3 years, at least every 90 days. But ticking clock didn't go into effect until Oreo upgrade which was 2nd quarter - 3rd quarter 2018.
So, theoretically updates through mid-2021.
