In review: ZTE Axon 7. Review sample courtesy of Notebooksbilliger.de.
ZTE has not promised too much: The Axon 7 easily matches upper-range smartphones, such as Samsung's Galaxy S7 even if it ultimately cannot quite pull level to such devices. ZTE's smartphone does not have the final feature polishing for this - a faster USB port, larger internal storage, and wireless charging function would have led to a slightly higher rating. However, this does not at all lessen the superb configuration and performance package that the user gets with the Axon 7.
ZTE's Axon 7 is not only a worthy opponent for high-end smartphones such as Samsung's Galaxy S7, it also convinces with its outstanding Dolby surround sound.
We particularly liked the high-quality casing, sharp QHD panel, very good camera module, and the more than sufficient performance for every smartphone situation in the test. And everyone looking for a smartphone with a really good sound will simply have to take ZTE's Axon 7 because it acoustically outruns its rivals by miles with its Dolby-Atmos sound.
ZTE's Axon 7 also has to accept criticism although there is not very much to reproach. Some users might not like the looks of the MiFavor 4.0 user interface - but the looks can be changed to almost look like stock Android via an app. A faster USB port would have suited the Axon 7 well, just like a somewhat better battery life and a removable battery.

I am bemused by the battery comments....
In my experience battery is outstanding.
Axon 7 has USB 3.0 not 2.0. So that is wrong in the review. I got 80MB/s transfer speeds from the phone to my laptop.
I can't say that is outstanding but is in really good level for his price category.
S7 Edge and P9 Plus has better battery life for 5.5" inches device.

Me too being surprised since according to ZTE is USB C 3.0 generation.
But hey ZTE mention that the battery capacity is 3250 and real one is 3140.
So maybe the actual speed of the USB C port is USB 2.0 level and not 3.0/3.1.
Keep in mind not all USB C is 3/3.1 certified.

I'm sorry i have had both s7 edge and p9 plus. The battery life is better than the s7 edge and at least on par if not better than the p9 plus. I am a power user and i get a full day without problem.
The only thing i don't like about this phone is the weight. The phone feels heavy for 1 handed use. Compared to all other phones i have used, this phone is definitely heavier than Ali of them including the note series.

I'm too having both S7 edge and Axon 7(I'm still using both phone) and with Samsung I'm having 1-1.5 hours more SOT.
Axon 7 I can say is identical to flat S7 on battery life, not Edge.

Good review, in depth and that's what we like !
Altough, as said above, not too sure about their USB testing and battery results...
I'm getting USB 3.0 speed at home, tested with a single 5030 Mo file :
SSD => Axon 7 : ~33.5 seconds --> ~150 Mo/s
Axon 7 => SSD : ~63.5 seconds --> ~79.2 Mo/s
And battery life is neither spectacular not mediocre. Iit is average for this kind of battery in this kind of smartphone.

To be fair I haven't tested the USB C speed but I will do that.
Actually if you read carefully is saying that is good to average level.
"the battery runtimes range from "good" to "average".

about the battery life... couple days ago I was driving with GPS (here maps to be exact) for 5+ hours, screen always on, audiobook playing through Bluetooth, and after trip I had about 35% battery left, if that's not impressive I don't know what is.

Yeah, I read that but it doesn't matter what they say in the full review. What matters is the plus an cons summary. It's what people remember the most.

Yes indeed but to my personal view the camera performance is not as good in real life compared to NotebookCheck results("very good camera module" at Pro) especially low light shoots performance is mediacore at best.
Also video recording at low light conditions is far from ideal.
So at "Pro"they overestimate camera performance and on "Cons" on battery life underestimated the real one performance.

I continue to think ZTE's quality control is uneven. I found the camera and LTE reception very poor and sent mine back. Looking back at my pictures I took over those 3 weeks, the Axon 7 photos really stick out as very poor (compared to Nexus 6p and Honor 7) . Battery life however was superb, best I've ever had, with effortless 5h30 sot.

It is AMOLED, so it will be average for near white content with high APL (>80%) but very good for video with average to low APL (40% or lower). Like on Samsung phones it really depends on usage. The standby or call time is very good. Also when used at home the high contrast means people can use the phone close to minimum brightness a lot of the time, so it really helps. You really only see a strong depletion in the sun while browsing near white content (e.g. browsing or texting).
why none of you can not complain about the quality of the audio on the headphones? According to me this is the biggest disappointment of this model in the European version.

First of all post your used headphones, software setup and music file info, then your expectations and where you see the peoblem.
Plus, what did you expect? Quality on the level of 200€ dedicated computer soundcards a la xonar essence st in a 400€ MOBILE device?
I except unit that will sound better on stock then HTC m7. I heard that A2017u model sound a lot better, louder and powerful than eu model. And for that difference I'm angry about. Eu is very quiet.

I listen on stock and it's loud. I never had a need to go for 90-100% volume, that is too loud.
turn off Dolby and change HiFi setting to Super if you havent somehow done that already.

hey guys ,
should i go for the lg v10 or the mate 8 ???
both has large screens
but i saw on videos that the mate 8 beats the lg v10 in the performance
the camera of lg v10 is better and the interface is better
the mate 8 is more expensive than the lg v10 in my country
i really like the second screen and the design of the lg v10
the mate 8 has 4000 mah to 3000 mah for the lg v10
should i pay more to for the mate 8 fro the extra battery and performance ?? or get the lg v10 ?? or the new released oneplus 3 LOL :laugh::laugh:
I have not tried the mate 8, and can only comment on the v10, which I have.
-I would not worry about performance issues with the v10. It's very good for real world application, even if it does not benchmark as well as some of the competition
-The 3000 mah battery on the v10 is on the low side. On most days the battery barely makes it through the day for me. On days I'm out of the office for extended periods of time, I generally carry a spare battery. But the nice thing is that the battery is replaceable, unlike the mate 8, I think.
-The v10 is very good for media: music, videos, camera

The V10 is optimized very well by LG. Everyday use and speed is on par with the current sd820 flagships. Sound quality is the best I've ever heard on a mobile device. I have to confirm the previous comment regarding the battery. I also carry a spare battery with me, which i charge using a cradle. The advantage of a cradle is, you can charge the empty battery while on the road using a power bank, its charging time is less than the SOT of the V10. So when your V10 runs out of juice, you will always have a full battery ready. Btw, the LG cradle also supports quickcharge 2.0
Another advantage of a cradle: it's better for the battery, because if you charge the phone while using it, it's detrimental for the overall battery health.
ithink i will go for the lg v10 and save the extra money to buy a cradle
Mate 8 will kill lg v10 in bat. performance...speed performance doesn't matter, it's like should I got on Porsche or Ferrari...LG cam is better...If you gonna stick you mobile phone for longer period of time go for LG...(removable battery), and it's more ''original''...
mate 8 is extremely fast it has fantastic performance
great battery
good display
fantastic fingerprint
great design
good sound from speaker way better than v10
but camera is really ****

I agree, but at least it's an issue you can solve. If a phone has a bad camera, thats it. You're stuck. If it has bad audio, you're stuck.
Hi
I am Nexus 4 user - great phone with lot of great ROMs available here, great performance and good size - but battery is no longer big enough to match my needs. So I am looking for a new phone and ran into Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 Pro.
There is a lot of positive comments about this device, but also quite a lot of drawbacks - no 800MHZ band, problems with microphone/speaker, some battery performance issues... So, is there any better choice in that kind of money? I am looking for something with big battery to be able to do something more than 2-2,5h of WEB vieweing... I am not playing games, apps that I am using are not really demanding ones. My other thought is Asus Zenfone Max - but Redmi Note 3 PRO looks much better while comparing some statistics.
So, any other thoughts? I would be grateful for all responses and advices
If you need 800mhz try: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/-HK-...OTG-Fast-Charge-Gyroscope---Black-367828.html
I have no issues with battery or speaker. 800mhz isn't the end of the world unless you 100% need it
If you can live without 800mhz and bad low light camera, nothing can beat this device value. Battery and performance is among the best you can get today.
I never have those mic/speaker/battery/performance issues.
Hello, I received my RN3 Pro yesterday and I have to say it's freakin amazing. A definite upgrade from Nexus 4(I came from a Moto G2, and before that Nexus 4). I charged it to 100% yesterday and it gave me 7.5hrs SOT till 1pm today, which is frankly mind blowing for two reasons,
1) More than 4hrs SOT ftw
2) I played around 1hr of Pokemon go ( continuously uses 3G and GPS) and still managed 7hrs sot.
So yes, you'll easily get >3hrs of web viewing. The one issue I found however is that the phone makes a hissing sound when connected to AUX cable, many people have this problem and are saying it's software related, so maybe there will be a fix. Secondly on very low volume with earphones,(step 1-3) you can hear a noticeable hissing sound which I'm pretty sure is software related, but it's not a deal breaker. The drawback of the Asus I feel is that there's no rom support, not as good specs as the RN3. RN3 has a snapdragon 650 which is basically an improved version of last year's flagship SoC. Also, build quality is amazing on the RN3. MIUI is a great feature packed rom!
So basically I definitely recommend the RN3, the battery life is going to definitely make you very happy
Yes definitely, its a beast and even I came from mako to this phone .I've to say I'm amazed by its battery and performance.really so fast the custom ROM development is awesome for this phone.. definitely a good choice to buy this phone for such a low cost..!
Thank You very much for all answers
Yeah, I think I can live without 800mhz, for taking good photos in every occasion I have other more specialized devices
I just ordered 2/16 version
I'm almost decided on this phone but battery life is probably the most important thing for me and I'm finding completely different test results. Some say it shows the small battery size, others say it's unbelievably good probably due to a less power CPU and smaller lower resolution screen. A youtube reviewer even claims he gets about the same battery life on the X as on his S7 Edge. Video playback seems to be the week point here but I don't watch many videos on my phones, just the ocasional youtube clip.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of people owning this phone so I can't find much information from a regular user perspective. So how has battery life been for you? At least as good as the old Z2 or Z3?

It should actually be better and that's what I'm having a hard time believing. Your numbers do match up with the expect numbers considering the diferences between models. Maybe it's the Qnovo Adaptive Charging, they claim that makes the battery have a better charge time and lifespan
It is very good compared to my previous M5. They have done amazing job with this phone. If you look at the specs for X Performance, you will realize that Sony have removed the "2 days battery life" claim from that phone, most likely because of the processor bump.
I am able to watch offline youtube for close to 4 hours on this phone. Waze is another matter.

I know the x has a slightly bigger battery but compared to my previous Xperia the m2 which had a almost identical size battery yet smaller screen and alot less power I'm impressed with the xa's battery performance and stand by drain. I know you can't really accurately compare a two year old device with a new one but I'm still impressed the x can't be that bad

Battery life is good for me, I get 1-2 days out of it, for one full day it's always more then enough. My old Z5 compact was still a wee bit better though.

i am a LG V10 user. now i wanna upgrade. especially am looking for better screen(vibrant), battery performance, with sd card support, ir blaster, camera in low light(i love shoot pics in low light my v10 performs good), custom rom support atleast want root and custom recovery, etc., i searched for a better upgrade finally i cornered this mate 10. i never ever used any huawei device before. is mate 10 worth upgrade?.
i want some real time experience replies,
1. how is the sreen visibilty in sunlight?.(v10 is not that great in sunlight). both are ips lcd and with same resolution also. is the screen colour looks vibrant than v10?.
2. how's the battery performance?.(v10 is horrible in battery performance, SOT rarely touches 4hrs)
3. how's audio performance in earphones(is stock earphone sounds better)?. with hifi dac in v10 audio performance is good with high impedance earphones.
4. any heat issues after playing games or watching videos for long time.(my v10 crosses 45C after half an hour of gaming. in outdoor can't think about gaming or streaming videos, with the help of SD 808 proccy can make sandwich for breakfast).
5. any screen retention(ghost image) or bootloop issues(v10 is popular in bootloop issue, search google).
6. call reception, data connectivity and wifi performance?.

1. The screen is readable in sunlight because the phone has good brightness.
2. The 4000mAh should get you a day and a half with light-moderate use. I have about 5-6 hours SOT
3. The audio with headphone jack is pretty good but I heard the bluetooth is terrible.
4. The phone stays pretty cool even after hours of streaming. Playing games gets warm but not hot.
5. No bootloop issues unless you mess with the bootloader or if you mess up while updating the firmware manually.
6. All good
Do not upgrade. Software is crap camera is crap updates don't fix anything and break more things then you wait months for another update. Random reboots too. Only Good thing is screen and battery life.

The same here. One of the best phones. Speed, screen, batery, very good for me.
These are all opinions but I will say I have a Pixel 2 XL, had the s9+, and other devices I switch up.
I just picked up the Mate 10 Pro as an open box on sale at Best Buy in excellent (not even used) condition and I can honestly say it's one of the best Android phones I've ever used. Battery life is the real deal I can get 6-7 hours SOT easily. I like some of the features the software provides, and the call quality is outstanding. Like the speaker set-up. The full screen with the navigation dock is awesome.
I really like that the screen is mostly flat and not curved like the Samsung's, and even my Pixel 2 XL. Colors are very natural, quality is much better than my Pixel 2 XL.
Of course nothing is perfect I do wish it had wireless charging, and offered a Quad HD option like others.

thank you for your detailed info about the phone. just am looking for a phone with good dispaly, good speed for daily activities, especially less heat(really i burnt my hands after using v10), bluetooth, i use it very rarely so it's not a problem for me.
if the bootloader is unlockable then it's a boon for custom recovery and rooting(i requested lg so many times to unlock the bootloader of my v10 varaint but they never listened to me - dumbass).
my main usage are calls via VoLTE, data and wifi connectivity and some social media apps.

good that you have nice experience with lg. but for me not like you i don't like their policy. it's worst than (cr)appple policy. lg promised that v10 will receive every month security update but, after nougat update till now not even single update was released. unlocking bootloader and rooting is a mirage. my v10 is already suffering from screen retention, overheat and lagging issues. i don't know when my v10 going to face the infamous bootloop issue. fingers crossed :fingers-crossed:

I have the pro version so the experience may be a bit different from regular Mate 10.
1. Mate 10 Pro has AMOLED screen. It's VERY bright and the color is quite good.
2. Battery is very good. It can last a day of heavy usage (playing Pokemon Go for hours) or 2 days of light usage.
3. The audio quality for wired headphone is ok. It's not bad, and depending on the type of music you listen to, the Huawei Histen sound effects may slightly improve the experience. However, it has the typical Android SRC issue (all outputs are re-sampled to 48khz/16bit). This means that if you have Hi-Res music files (96khz/24bit), the audio signal will be down-sampled and becomes the same or even worse than CD quality (44.1khz/16bit). AFAIK, LG V10, when using stock player, doesn't have this down-sampling issue. I don't have any non-Huawei phones to compare, but my FiiO X7 (professional Hi-Res audio player) definitely has better audio quality than Mate 10 Pro (I use Sennheiser IE800 IEM). There are also some issues with Bluetooth audio. When using AptX-compatible bluetooth headphones, there is a small pulsing noise when music just starts.
4. No heat issue at all.
5. If you don't unlock Bootloader and try to install un-released firmware, you won't experience any bootloop.
6. Pretty good. Be sure to check if your carieer's frequencies are compatible with the phone.
EDIT: grammar
Of course it does

Of course nothing is perfect I do wish it had wireless charging, and offered a Quad HD option like others.

oh yes, because of amoled screen the battery life is better i think. if pro version has the sd card support and 3.5mm jack then def. i will buy it without any second thought. not only me most of the flagship lovers do it.

yes, amoled is brighter and sunlight visibility is good. but, the pro misses my most wanted features

if it's last for atleast one full day with moderate use then it's enough for me.

in my lg v10 i love to listen hi-res audio with the help of dedicated hifi dac. after receiving mate 10 i have to test both phone's audio output. bluetooth? i use it very very rarely. yearly once or two, i don't know when i used bluetooth last time in my v10.

mostly i won't do flashing but for rooting and custom recovery unlocking bootloader is required. i am afraid if i install any custom roms some unique features of stock rom won't available so better i stick with stock anytime.

mate 10 supports mostly all the frequencies i think so data connectivity and volte support won't be a problem. good to know that this mate 10 supports dual 4g and volte at the same time. great feature.
I've not seen any discussion on battery life since the launch of the Note 10. Would people please share:
1. How is it now that there's been time for Samsung to fix early issues
2. Did Android 10 upgrade help?
3. Does it last through a day of heavy use?
4. Snapdragon or Exynos?
More info: I'm considering buying the Note 10 but the original reviews are mixed. Some say battery life is good but most say it's disappointing. It would be to replace an iPhone XS that is 12 months old, battery health is a shocking 84% and the SoT time is less than 3 hours, so I won't be buying any more overpriced junk from Apple. I'm in the UK so would be getting the Exynos unless I take a risk and grey import a Snapdragon, and live without the warranty.
More battery life is *always* better, but I really have no complaints about my Note 10 battery. It lasts all day, every day. I average 5.5 hours SOT, but it would get a lot more if I pushed it below 10% charge. However, I rarely let it drop below 30%, or fully charge to 100%. I try to take it off the charger between 60-80% to preserve long-term battery life. So while 5.5 hours SOT may seem low to other Note users, I am averaging 5.5 hours SOT from only a 50-70% charge, which is pretty damn good imo.
I disabled some apps that I'll never use, but otherwise I don't need to gimp it to make it through the day. I noticed a slight improvement in battery life with Android 10. I don't do much gaming, but I do a lot of web browsing, YouTube, and listen to Google Play Music and Sirius XM, and it has no problems lasting a full day.
I have the Snapdragon model. I don't have any experience with the Exynos model, but if you are in the UK, then I would recommend going with Exynos just for the warranty. There may be some YouTube videos comparing the battery and performance differences, you may want to look for those. I remember a couple of years ago the Exynos models were noticeably worse as far as battery, but I think the latest Exynos chips have closed the gap.
If battery life is a top priority, then you should consider the Note 10+ which has 23% larger battery (4300 vs 3500 mAh).
One last thing to consider: The Galaxy S20 models are right around the corner. I am not trying to talk you out of a Note, but if you can live without the Spen, you might want to wait for the Galaxy S20 Plus and Ultra. The Plus model is supposed to have a 4500 mAh battery, and the Ultra is rumored to have a massive 5000 mAh battery.
Edit: Btw, congrats on graduating from iOS. You'll love the customizability of Android, and now that RCS is available, you won't miss iMessage as much :good:

Battery time is average.
battery timing is inversely proportional to the time you are free

Thanks for taking the time to reply - appreciate it. Sounds like our usage patterns are similar. I don’t really game but I use web and media on public transport for a couple of hours a day, in poor signal areas so every phone I’ve had struggles.
Am trying to keep phone size down, the Note 10 Plus is definitely too big! I like the fact that with the standard Note 10 it’s almost the same size as my current iPhone XS, just 5mm taller.
Re graduating (haha) I’ve had android before. Before this iPhone I had the OnePlus 5T and really liked it until I changed cars and it completely refused to talk to the audio system.
I found a YouTube video comparing the Qualcomm and Exynos Note 10’s and in his test he got 7 hrs from the Exynos and 8hrs from the Snapdragon. Wow, bit of a difference.
Will see what the S20 (standard size) is like, and then decide whether to risk an imported Note 10 [emoji106]

Correction, the video of the Snapdragon getting another hour of screen time is the S10, not the Note 10, which means the Exynos is the 8nm 9820 rather than the 9825 in the Note.

So i got my Exynos note10 (not a new one, a used one but in a good shape) a week ago running android Q, and the battery drain was a little bit higher than average (compared to what people claiming in the battery section). So i decided to do a fresh reset by flashing a firmware using odin, after that i did some optimizations, disabling features that i dont really need, debloating some apps and waiting for the phone to learn my battery usage pattern (it took me around 4-5 days). So now I can get 7 to 8 hours of SOT using Chrome as my web browser, social media apps, and youtube. So yeah i think the 3500 mah battery is doing a pretty good job.
That’s really good, lots of owners don’t get that out of the Plus model

So the first thing i did was to flash a stock firmware and root it using magisk. Then i charged my phone until it get 100%, i use it until it dies and cannot get booted again (when the phone dies keep rebooting it until it cannot get rebooted again). I did the charging and discharging thing twice. I think this step is like calibrating your battery, correct me if I am wrong.
Then thanks to this post : https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-10/how-to/galaxy-note-10-note-10-plus-debloat-t3964225 i debloated Bixby, samsung pass / pay , samsung sticker center... Do this step at your own risk because you can brick your phone if you didnt choose correctly what to debloat.
Then i enabled Adaptive power saving, put unused apps to sleep, Optimise Battery usage and i restricted background activity and i use dark mode all the time.
I disabled Air action and all features related to S pen ( i only use s pen for writing).
You may not notice a big difference in the battery life until your phone learns usage pettern ("Learning pattern" usage becomes "An estimated time" in device care battery's section)
If you are on a rooted phone then you can use greenify to hibernate other apps.
Additional information, my phone battery drains from like 100% to 80% much quicker and then it start to go slower and slower because each battery behaves in a different way.
Took another look at the Note 10 today and think it's an absolutely stunning looking device. Best looking phone around for me. I noted in the Samsung store that they don't offer any sort of satisfaction guarantee, which is disappointing. Would have been tempted to take one if I had some insurance on the battery life not working out.
But the S20 has now launched, and it's impressive from a specs point of view. Time to see how the S20 reviews play out.

Yes, the S20 phones are phenomenal, especially the S20 Ultra. Which means the Note 11/20 will be an absolute beast

You are wrong this is really old battery habits. For several years and actual battery tech it's not recommended to fully discharge , the best way to improve battery life is to stay over 20% and avoid fast charging. That is also not how phone calibrates batteries.

Battery life on the Snapdragon Note 10+ has been great. It stayed consistent with the Android 10 update. I had the Note 8 before this phone, and I'd have to say the 10+ is better.
Indeed the difference is not so abysmal as before

Actually, there is a comparison for Note 10+ Exynos vs Snapdragon and indeed, the difference in battery is now minimal, of course the weak point for the Exynos is still the Mali GPU. So it looks like for power comsuption is now more even between Exynos 9825 and Snapdragon 855 (which is kind of obvious since both are 7nm)

Interesting thanks.
One of the things I’ve been bitten with on iPhones is the effect on battery life of the inferior Intel modems they’ve been using for the last few years. I went from an iPhone SE to an Xs and the difference in signal strength was definitely noticeable, and that will affect power consumption too.
I’m not saying this is the same with the Exynos modem but do tend to think that at this point, Qualcomm modems are the better
